      They stopped trying to kill Zelensky a long time ago. Now that he has become an international superstar on the level of Justin Bieber (intellectual level), if Russia kills Zelensky, he'll become a martyr. Every western city will have its Zelensky statue, Zelensky Boulevard, Zelensky square, and the next oscars will go to a fiction film about the life and death of Zelensky with Halle Bailey in the main role :p

    The cost to the West of supporting Kiev continues to rise, meaning Russia’s best option is to wait. The great tragedy of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is that it will ultimately prove to have been futile. The likely outcome - territorial adjustments in Russia’s favor, security guarantees for Ukraine and Russia could have been peaceably negotiated beforehand had leaders had a firmer grasp of the real balance of power or greater political courage. The cost of failed diplomacy is already hundreds of thousands of lives lost and hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of property destroyed.
    The West and Ukraine lack a credible strategy going forward. Sanctions have not crippled Russia; its economy grew last year and is forecast to do so again this year. Russia has restructured and reoriented its trade to reduce its dependence on the West as a partner and on the dollar as a means of exchange.
    In these circumstances, doubling down on sanctions, as Ukraine’s boosters advocate, will hardly bring Russia to its knees. Similarly, arming Ukraine with more sophisticated weapons (F-16s, long-range ATACMS missiles) will not prove decisive in overcoming Russia’s well-fortified defensive positions.
    U.S., NATO, and Zelensky are yet prepared to write off the sunk costs to move toward a settlement. Zelensky regime does not want to believe their soldiers died in vain. Ukraine has been, in essence, bankrupted by the conflict, and has had a quarter to a third of its population displaced-this on top of a declining birth rate.
    And so, the conflict continues - until the Ukrainians are exhausted or conclude that it cannot make further gains through military action. When negotiations begin, two items will be at the top of the agenda: security guarantees to reduce the threat of renewed fighting and the disposition of the territory that Russia has liberated, the very two issues that were on the table in the months before Russia SMO in February 2022.
    To be sure, the details of the actual settlement will differ from those that could have been negotiated in the run-up to the SMO. Ukraine, for example, stands to lose more territory than it would have in 2022, when Russia only liberated Crimea and part of the Donbas.

      Ukraine has been making a number of terrible decisions since 2014. In the name of a delusional marriage with the EU and the US it destroyed the country. Ukraine as a country is no more, it will eventually be depopulated and abandoned. Russia will have an immense and fertile land for plantation.

    The conspicuous silence from both the mainstream media and NATO's Stoltenberg regarding Ukraine's progress indicates that they've come to the realization that it's checkmate for Ukraine. On March 29, The Washington Post reported that DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, observed that recent Russian missile strikes have been more accurate and concentrated, resulting in greater damage to Ukrainian energy facilities compared to previous attacks. This escalation in the precision and impact of attacks underscores a significant increase in the challenges faced by Ukraine in protecting its critical infrastructure. Ukraine's recent failure to intercept Russian missiles targeting its energy facilities has raised significant concerns and speculation about the underlying reasons. Two primary explanations can address this issue. - TFIGlobal

    I guess _[and it is a guess]_ in a situation where you are always retreating, that a mentality can set in where one group of soldiers is continually thinking *_'Where and when are we going to retreat to next'?_* and in the other ... *_'When where are we going to move forward into next?'_*
    Once that mentality has set in, it must be difficult to break.

    Ukraine says it 'ran out of missiles' to stop Russian strike ruining power station
    Ukrainian servicemen stand next to an AN/TWQ-1 Avenger mobile air defence missile system during their combat shift, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, outside of Kyiv, Ukraine June 16, 2023. REUTERS/
    There were 11 missiles flying. We destroyed the first seven, and four (remaining) destroyed Trypillia. Why? Because there were zero missiles. We ran out of missiles to defend Trypillia," he said in the interview with PBS.

    - Far from a series of diplomatic blunders, the escalating tensions in the Middle East are part of a long-standing US policy of baiting Iran into open war in pursuit of containment and regime change;
    - As the US has used conflict to reassert itself over Europe, it is seeking to engulf the Middle East in conflict to once again reassert itself there;
    - While the US attempts to create plausible deniability regarding repeated Israel provocations, it is the US ultimately enabling Israeli aggression;
    - Claims that Washington seeks to avoid escalation contradict US attempts to block accountability for Israel in the UN Security Council;
    - Iran has clearly walked into a trap, what remains to be seen is if it was fully prepared to do so, or if it has gravely miscalculated; - The New Atlas

    A suspect has been arrested in connection with last week’s attempted assassination of a former Ukrainian secret police agent in Moscow, Russian security agency, the FSB, reported on Tuesday.
    A car reportedly owned by Vasily Prozorov, who previously served in the Ukrainian successor to the soviet KGB, the SBU, was blown up in Moscow last Friday. The driver survived the assassination attempt.
    The suspect is a Russian national in his early 40s, who was allegedly acting on behalf of the SBU’s current leadership. His handler is a direct subordinate of the agency’s head, Vasily Malyuk, the FSB claimed.
    The Russian agency alleges that the man was recruited in Ukraine last October and returned to Russia in March. He stands accused of personally assembling the radio-triggered improvised explosive device and planting it under the car. -RT
