I really appreciate you showing the try-it cords. Seeing them in action confirmed that I don’t need to waste my money on them. It’s so much easier to use a cable connector and just add another long cable, try on, then remove the extra cable and keep going. Not nearly as fiddly and nerve wrecking.

37" Chiaogoo spin cord with a union and a stopper stays permanently together in a bag; one each in small and large, takes seconds to prepare to try on.

Agreed! Watching it made me realize it wasn't just me or user error making the barber cords overly fiddly and time consuming. Even with great technique it's not that quick. I have a set of barber cords but hate them. With my Addi click interchangeable set I will just stop one row before I want to try on, knit a round onto my 60" cord and I'm good to go for trying on. Knit back onto my smaller cord after trying on - *zero* knitting time wasted and my stitches are 100 percent secure the entire time. For my husband same but using an 80" cord to try on.

I don’t move them off the needle. I just attach the cord to the ends of my two needles and move some stitches off until I have enough room to try it on.

Absolutely! That was an awful lot of work and time. I use an extender and extra cord. I never have to move stitches on or off something else. I was exhausted just watching! 😂

Waiting for that fluffy pink yarn was the right choice for sure. It is the perfect color for the other and it does make your sweater GLOW.
I appreciate the Try It On Tubing tutorial. Those tips will come in handy.

STUNNING Alpenglow! Too often I talk myself into knitting with colors that I'm just not sold on. And while I think there's a place for not overthinking color as well as having fun with color combos outside your comfort zone, watching you go from color choices you would have liked but not loved to the absolute perfect combo was such a reminder that for special projects it really is worth taking the time (and unfortunately sometimes extra money) to find a combo you love.

This might be crazy but wouldn't it be fun to save your gauge swatches and crochet them together and I've time have an afghan made up of all your swatches. It could be a memory blanket of all your projects.

I was just typing out a comment that suggested that same idea same idea. Then you have something that you can look back on and see all the swatches of past projects so even if you donate those projects elsewhere you still have a piece of it.

You should save your swatch with the pink fluff and decorate the front of a notebook with it! How fun would that be to have a fluffy notebook?!

I find it so much faster to just use a chiaogoo cable connector and attach another longer cable instead of fiddling with those plastic cords.

Hi Natalie, thank you for showing how to use the try it cords, I struggled with mine, they didn’t come with instructions, also because you showed your knit plans, I too have started writing down how many skeins have been used/entered my life, so far this month I’ve used three, hoping to use a few more before the MKAL with Stephen West starts, see you in the next one.

I use this tubing but never move all my stitches onto the needles. I just spread my stitches so they’re all nice and smooth and so I wont’t lose any stitches when I pull the garment over my head and shoulders.

Hi Natalie, your Alpenglow is beautiful!!! Great choice waiting on the replacement fluff, it really tied it all together.
I think you might have been thinking a little backwards on your Musselbourgh hat, I think the ribbing will be cool, however ribbing takes more yarn than stockinette and since you have less of the solid you are already in a deficit. Plus if you rib in the multi if it stretches and you can see the secondary color the solid won't be as obvious as the multi? Just my thought.
    Happy Knitting! *)

Alpenglow is looking so good! I love the fluffy pink decision! 😍 I have a musselburg on the needles and I’m doing half in one color and half in another so I can change things up and wear it either color depending on what I’m wearing lol it’s an addicting knit and a portable and mindless similar to socks, good tv watching knitting!

Love the Alpenglow! My Rhinebeck sweater took a lot of searching for the perfect yarn too! Hope to see you there again! For the Musselburgh, doesn't purl/rib take more yarn than stockinette? Hoping you have enough for both hats!

Thanks so much for the tutorial! I’ve been thinking about getting the try-it-on tubing for awhile now. Currently, I just put my stitches onto waste yarn in order to try on my garment. Are there any advantages to the tubing over just waste yarn? I used to think it must be faster to use the tubing, but after watching you do it, I don’t think it is. Can you think of other advantages to tubing over waste yarn?

I want to make the Musselburgh hat. Every time you talk about it I think "I need to get that pattern". Though on the green one. Since you are wanting to save yarn on the solid green wouldn't you want to do stockinette since ribbing would use a bit more yarn? Just a thought.

quick question...I can't figure out how to use the mussleburough hat pattern... there is a lot in that document...I mostly have dk acrylic (not ideal but what I have). would you mind recommending needles would you recommend to achieve a large adult ... with the mentioned materials. I'm an fairly experienced knitter but can't work this out without advice

I love the idea of the ribbed hat! Have you ever noticed if ribbing uses more yarn for you than stockinette? It does for me, somehow. Just curious, it may affect your yarn usage with the solid green yarn. I am totally going to have to make some more beanies this year!!!

    • @sarahschira9105
      @sarahschira9105 2 роки тому

Moving between knitting and purling uses more yarn, so it’s not just you. That’s one reason why a textured fabric will always use more yarn than a stockinette one.
