    I started knitting LONG before you had superwash options. Knit a swatch in your rustic yarn. Fill a bowl with warm water and dissolve hair conditioner into the water. Soak your swatch, rinse and dry. Not soft enough-try again. You might be shocked at how soft you can make a rustic wool. It even works fairly well with the Icelandic wools.

      Thank you for this - I am definitely going to try this on my Icelandic wool!

    Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (100% American Targhee-Columbia) and Ampersand Fibers Caslon Fingering (100% US Corriedale) are amazing non-superwash yarns that I find to be very soft! My favorite thing about the two garments I knit with those yarns is how warm they keep me! I hadn't realized how warm "true" wool is until venturing into NSW options.
    I absolutely love both your Rhinebeck sweaters, especially Alpenglow! Your colors are spot on with matching your special Spincycle skiens! Love your love of pinks!

    Knit Pro day and nite interchangeable set has the swivel cables… fantastic. Wood, dark on one side , light on the other so that if you are knitting dark wool , you turn the light side to face you mak8ng it so much easier to see and the same if knitting l8ght wool…turn the dark side towards you.

    In order to make the arms bigger in a bottom up sweater, one way to do it is to knit a larger size on the sleeves, and then when you are knitting the sleeves and body together, you could set off more stitches on both the sleeves and on the body :)

    • @cathynewkirk6807
      @cathynewkirk6807 2 роки тому

      Would it also help to go up a needle size when knitting the sleeves? I’ve actually heard Andrea Mowrey suggest that, in general, because she says people tend to knit tighter on a small circumference.

    • @ViktoriaMarkussen
      @ViktoriaMarkussen 2 роки тому +1

      @@cathynewkirk6807 Yes, if your actual gauge varies on the sleeves and on the body. I personally would not do it if you knit the same gauge on both in the same needle size :)

    It's called the "traveling loop" method. Very similar to magic loop, but only one loop that travels along the project.

    You can see in Andrea Mowry patterns if the sleeves are fitting and in the Nurtured , the trick is to knit them in a bigger needle size…

    It took me until Saturday night to finish Clue 1. I took all day Sunday working on Clue 2 "section 2" and while I am going to try to finish I time for Thursday's Clue 3 drop, sections 4&5 look like they will take me a while lol. I have come to realize I am not a very fast knitter.
    I regularly forgot to cast off so I would go back from the opposite end and "fix" it (love circulars lol). Also forgot some increase but like you would just slip them in later. Unfortunately I found 3 dropped stitches too far down to pick back up so I have stitch markers hanging on to them until I have time to weave them in with scrap yarn, thankfully it is in the MC garter stitch sections and easily disappear (which is how I lost them in the first place 😂)

    I have 4 more repeats left of the first clue, and I am definitely a day or so behind. I am hoping to get started on clue 2 by the end of today. I am loving all the new skills I am learning especially since I consider myself an intermediate beginner knitter.
    This is also my first year doing any type of MKAL and it has been so much fun.

    I love my chiaogoos, but wanted a nice wooden set too and wasn’t thrilled with their wooden tips. I considered the lantern moon needles until I read reviews about the sizes wearing off. The lantern moon cables do fit knit picks, knitters pride, and lykke needles. I opted for a lykke needle set and lantern moon cables.

    I just bought a mindful swivel cord for my twists and turns, in Ireland it's by knitpro same company I'd imagine . I was using a cable that was too long and kept twisting, very annoying. I like it so far, the only issue i could see if your a tight knitter it might catch the yarn when sliding up on the feeder needle. The cable feels like a thin coated wire. I enjoyed using it.

    Hi there! You will love the Lantern Moon needles. I have the swivel cords and two sets I purchased. I just talked about the Lantern Moon needles on my last podcast. the Ebony is fantastic. My only negative feedback is the needle size is not etched on the metal part of the needle and the print on the actual tip fades after a couple of uses, but hey that's why I have a needle gauge😊. Have fun at Rhinebeck!

    For your Alpin glow, I know you have already re-knit your neck line, but if the neck is to rustic, you could knit the inside of the neckline with a softer yarn, just a thought, I am in love with your colour choice ❤

  • @katpraeuner9794

    I believe Lantern Moon was purchased or was a spin off of Knit picks, like Knitters Pride. I admit to having way more sets of needles than some. Way back, I purchased the Denise needles - they were the first set of interchangeables I'd ever seen. Got a second set for my daughter who used them for quite awhile then gave them back to me and I passed them on to a friend. Then came Knitters Pride and Knit picks and Lantern Moon. I went with Knitters Pride as they were available to actually look at before purchasing. I've got 5 sets now. 1 is resin, 1 is metal (mindful collection shorties) and 3 wooden - 1 shortie set, one cubic set(newest and I love them) and one regular length. I love the shorties which I didn't think I would. The metal ones are way too slick for me for most projects as the stitches just slide right off. The resin are more resistant than the wooden ones so don't get used as much anymore. I have a full set of fixed cable needles that I use only rarely although they are fine and not as slippy as the mindful. I did look at the ebony set and almost got it, but I knew I wanted the cubics. I had purchased just one set of them to try. I also tried to vary my wood to include light and dark because it's hard to see dark stitches on a dark needle with my older eyes. I think you did awesome and your sweaters! I have the Weekender light on my list and ready to start after the mkal. I will make a note to check the circumference of my arms and compare. I may have to go up a size on the sleeves and I'm wondering if the sleeves are tight one the larger sizes as I no longer wear the smaller size. In fact I may have to do some investigating to make sure I have enough yarn(it's a one of a kind colorway). Thanks for the great tips! Even though I having been knitting for many years, I'm constantly learning new things from you.

    I hope the helpful tips for sweaters could work for crocheters as well. I wanted my sleeves Narrow but got Bell Sleeves how I have NO Clue. So I went to the other yarn shop near me today and I finally got a knitting lesson and I found out what I did wrong and now I am able to do the Stockinette stitch. Knitting on wooden needles and I do like them, I might have to pick up some wooden crochet hooks.

    I have a sensitive throat area to scratchy yarn and it doesn't really need to even feel that scratchy for it to bother me. Last year I bought a number of mock neck shirts to go under my sweaters and it blocks the itchyness. Then I tried with success weaving in double strand mohair on the throat side in two sweaters. I too find Andrea Mowry's sleeves snug. And you can see that in the photos on Ravelry. I started looking more closely at photos after some less than stellar finishes. Do you think you'd increase the number of cast on stitches in the armpit next time? (As well as making the sleeve wider.) I'm thinking to do that on the Sparky I have planned.

    I bought the Lantern Moon needles and a couple things before you buy...they are lovely to knit with, honestly love the stitching experience with them...but the pretty gold lettering wears off really quickly and the 4" needles with the 16" cord is really hard to use, the connections are longer than my other cords and it's really uncomfortable to use for hats. Just my thoughts! Happy Needle Shopping!

    After ripping out twice for the MKAL, I quit. I got a kit and saw a finished clue 1 in my colors and didn’t like it. Probably would’ve been more apt to fix my mistakes and stick with it if I liked my colors! Might knit it later in different yarn but for some reason was not in a groove or enjoying it this year.
