Glad you survived the air bag incident. My husband bought a X300 4.0 Sport as a tow car. It was a very cheap car as the paint badly needs redoing on the roof & boot. The rest of the paint looked bad until he cut it back & gave it a polish. He replaced the rear top shock isolators & fitted new shocks while he was at it as he didn't want to have to remove the shocks 6 months later. We have 3 other Jags ( Mk V, Mk 2 & X100 XKR) & he considered upgrading our little daily driver for something that could tow but decided the X300 was too much car for the money to pass up. It drives beautifully now, is so comfortable on long drives & has plenty of poke with the 4 litre engine. A welsh plug behind the exhaust manifold started leaking & is refusing to come out. He's made up some pullers & bought a right angle drill attachment that hopefully should get all 3 welsh plugs out.

Hi Brett, I was glad to bump into you today at Bi Centennial Park and pleased that the airbag missile missed you. Thanks for the invite to your UA-cam channel you're quite the Cecil B Demille of oil leaks and smoking electrical components. Its all great information, entertainment and crook music
I was the fella that bought your Jade Green X300 Sovereign about 5 Years ago, the old girl just keeps on getting better with age, every time I drive it I feel like I Own Sydney and rent Melbourne. Its good to see The Brett Kenyon Home for Old Jags down on their Luck is still operating.
Just remember old Jags if " if your smashed up, bashed up, broken down or lonely, who ya gunna call, Brett

Hi fella, another great post and educational but the main thing is that you are ok and didn't get hurt thumbs up and really don't blame yourself i bet other people have tried a similar thing before but one thing that is good is you shared this because it could save someone else's life you could have said nothing and just repaired it as if nothing has happened, a massive respect to you and look forward to seeing your next post take care

I'm so glad you are okay. What a shocker that must have been for you. I can see you are totally fed up with that module. Well done for staying calm and giving us a fair update on what happened.
About the repairs at the Jag garage, well done too. Your repair man sure sounds like an honest guy and knows what hes talking about. Great to see the oil by pass cooler has been done too. I like it that you followed up on my advice on the sway bar links. As a side note, seeing the state of the linkages, the rest of those bushings there must be bad too. eg lower and upper control arm bushings. I noticed clunks when you drove over the curved bumps. Don't forget the radiator ones too, those are gone i've seen in your earlier video and the radiator must be sitting lose there now. a/c condenser same story, it's probably already rubbing against each other now. Thanks for the short but great video !

Wow, glad you're ok. You're blaming yourself pretty heavily for that one, and fair enough to a point but I don't think putting a similar module in there was too crazy or negligent of a thing to do, it had two chances.... and we can see which way up the coin landed. I'm sure it was an educated gamble. Just being in or near the line of fire was the dodgy bit.
I know on later Jags with an electric adjustable column even the event of a static airbag fire causes the column to 'ride down' (it's designed to do this) so make sure the column has survived this event unscathed. I learned something anyway, good luck getting it sorted. Cheers.

Glad you’re okay. Well done for posting the experience. For sure your near miss will help others see the danger of airbags. Springs are another killer…I do all my own work on my X300 except springs. A garage can do those. I want to live!

Yes springs are scary especially with my 20yo spring compressors. That's why I sent to Dr Jag this time

The sodium metal azide detonator when it goes boom creates nitrogen as the inflating gas in an airbag. The smoke after detonation is mostly corn flour which lubricates the airbag as it breaks through the steering wheel pad in this case. The question here is really, did this one fail safe? Or, did it fail deadly. I could say lucky. There is no luck when you don't get dead. If you were sitting in the seat probably ok. But as you say if you had your head in there standing out of the car the B pillar it's not going to argue or fight with your life. I'm binge watching your exploits after this. Stay safe. Thanks for sharing. More importantly thanks for just being honest. It's rare these days. Kudos

Glad all ok. They’re meant to save you so I assume unless you’re very close when they inflate you shouldn’t be too badly injured but I bet the noise is enough to make you have a heart attack. The lesson you should learn from this is ALWAYS HAVE THE VIDEO RECORDING. Would have made great footage 🤣

  • @jamesmacdonald3090
    @jamesmacdonald3090 Рік тому

You were lucky to not get hurt, I was clenching my butt cheeks in your previous posts as you casually tested and removed modules etc.. with battery on and sat in the driver's seat. A bit like testing toasters in the bath, I stay well clear when doing anything with the squab or airbags. I own various Range Rovers and on paper a lot of parts are interchangeable with Ford or Jaguar.... nope! I think the manufacturers make subtle changes to keep their market especially in the luxury car sector. Not a problem with PSA group motors, just the badge is different? Could have been worse, I thought you might have totalled the car!

  • @johnmoruzzi7236

To be fair airbags aren't designed to kill you... your face is meant to hit them a matter of milliseconds after they blow but obviously not while they are rapidly inflating.
The problem is mainly when someone has their face really close, like short women with the seat slid right forward who drive hunched over the wheel... but also complacent amateur mechanics ! But you would have been a tall guy sat in the seat, or leaning slightly in from the side as you were.
Anyway glad all's well that ends well... be interesting to see how you get this sorted properly (if you bother !!!).

@@tjmthejagmandownunder Yeah fair enough, shame your enthusiasm has been a bit "deflated", you've at least proved that old airbags still do the job, the question is whether you bother to replace it or just frig the wheel centre back into a dumb fluffy pad and trust that you won't be faceplanting it in the event of an actual crash.
