The grip matter with the marimba section - they are playing a segment from the second moment of a marimba piece called Merlin, which was originally written for William Moersch, who utilizes traditional cross grip which Burton grip is based on
I found this video in my archives… it’s such an amazing show! Really inspired me to push and create my own indoor ensembles. All credit to Rick Barclay and the amazing staff!
I had a very distinct memory, just a couple days ago, of one IP’s lot videos of these kids and remembered just how impressive their playing was. Then I was sad because I couldn’t remember what year this was or what school they were, and thought it would be a very long time until I came across this group again. Needless to say I’m psyched you put this video up!
@@gsenselboa doesn’t pay any attention to percussion… this year's show for my band was a percussion based show, and they didn’t judge us AT ALL and we only got 7th in regional championships… it’s still okay i guess, but compared to how we scored at every other comp where they had percussion judges we did terribly score-wise
@@savingcpr5450 what I was referring to is band size in general for BoA. Look at grand national finals show and there is the Obligatory small/medium band (don’t remember the class designations because I’ve been out of the band world for a while) in exhibition because they didn’t make it past semifinals and only 2 made it there because that’s how the rules are setup.
Their front to back timing is just insane. Love the writing too! I love shows that have don't have the most exciting show concept but are still fascinating to watch
I love that the keyboards are throwin' down ' Merlin'! That's not an easy marimba solo by it self, and they are killing it as a group. The tempo they are taking it at is not the same as the original, but its still friggin' impressive. They did a good job Arr. Burritt's marimba solo piece, including ensemble breakdown @7:57
I think their marimba budget was greater than my entire district's mid-1980's school budget! I played in our HS band from 7th grade on, but the wheels came off by the time I was a junior. It was fun, but several orders of magnitude less interesting or difficult than any real corps. Amazing stuff!
This is so clean and so musical. The vertical writing is just outstanding. I was taught the Burton grip when I first learned a 4 mallet grip. Personally it feels more natural to me than the Stevens. I use Burton on marimba most of the time, I get lots of grief about it.
My favorite part was the unison deep toms on the beats with the battery. I will say when you play this fast it makes timing easier. Space = room for error. But incredible playing for a group of high school level players. I actually prefer the smaller groups for indoor, you can hear the clarity. When you have 30+ players it just gets BOOMY and you hear nothing.
I’ve just remembered now that I’m moving from bass 4 to tennors just how bad our heads our since the night after we got them we had to play at a football game and it was frozen so our brand new heads got absolutely ruined also the first new heads since 2019
Something else to really key in on is the overall quality of ensemble sound regardless of the drill and staging and floor placement. The fabric of the ensemble was just sickeningly even throughout. Ridiculous show for high-schoolers.
How is it that I knew just by the title that you were talking about Claremont 08. Those guys were stupid good. Also if you like small groups with power, maybe casually research the BOA Class A championship starting and ending at literally any point and see if you notice a trend
Indoor ensemble is way foreign to me. Cool concept though. Great way to go ahead and get the band out of the way and go ahead with the percussion ensemble down to the drum line.😂 if only my high school wasn’t so into marching band, we all could have fast forwarded and got to the good part!!! Unfortunately I guess we needed the rest of them too.😂 JK the rest of the band can come too.
this is only a little under the average size on the east coast/tob/maps area, 3 snares 2 tenors, 5 basses, 4 cymbals, this group imo has a oversized pit for the size of their battery tho
@@EMCproductions eric you need to look into clone hero pro drums. Its a fan made custom guitar hero drumset mode and its free. All you need is an e kit that you can link to it. I recommend looking up acais video on it.
As another small drum line with massive chops, these guys were a big inspiration for us. We talked about that snare roll for YEARS!
What line?
The grip matter with the marimba section - they are playing a segment from the second moment of a marimba piece called Merlin, which was originally written for William Moersch, who utilizes traditional cross grip which Burton grip is based on
God bless them for playing a tilt on Pearl snares. As it should be.
Despite the snares and drummers being different heights, the sticks come to the same apparent height for each drummer. Really impressive performance.

Also cool to point out that this same group won the Gold Medal in the Scholastic World Class Concert Division this same year.
Rick Barclay is once of the best teachers to ever exist 🧡

The front to back between the tenor double stops and the pit crash chokes at the end of the first tenor feature is stellar (2:11 of vid).
I remember this line. And seeing two of snares the summer of 09' on The Mandarins.
Quality over quantity, apparently you have never been to a band competition in Ohio judged by OMEA

That interplay between basses and flat drums at 1:52 is something I’ve never heard before
I hope these kids see this and are super proud. That was an amazing performance!!!
WOW! They are amazing for high school kids. I don't remember anyone in my high school band being this good! Most enjoyable.

Played that closer on my senior recital, this is DOPE
Went to WGI finals that year and they are so clean in person
The left snare (Romeo) was also in Pulse 2010 his senior year when they won independent worlds!
If you scroll down further on that scores page, Claremont were gold medalists in PSCW that year. Crazy good program!
These guys looked like they were ready to fight the world.

Good morning! This is video number 39 of me asking Eric to make a set of tenors out of differently sized or tuned snare drums.
snares need to save some women for the rest of us 😂😂
They used the button grip when I was in high school in Texas in the late 90s and early 2000s!
These kids unlocked god mode the hell?
Just found this video awesome to see my school on one of your videos!
Our high school use Burton’s grip for our 4 mallet sections in this seasons marching show
Our drumline only had 12 kids in it last year, and our show was based on midsummer.
Bro that’s a merlin reference from that intense solo that’s cool!
How does it feel beeing the 3 Wheel between Cowbell and Nicole?
Love the 2000 SCV bit
Emc is a beast
I went to Claremont high 09 graduate I think thats manny!!!
Yeah that's him❤️
@@sdsblah08 ya thats me lol
I’m 100% sitting in the audience losing my mind over this performance
I was in that crowd!! So good!
the brass band i was in in primary school had 5of us at the most
Dang thats cool, I wish my indoor had numbers like that tho. We have 13 total this year, front and line
No Way! This is my high school!
Do you guys still have MASSIVE CHOPS?
@@EMCproductions Nah not really. We don’t even have an indoor program anymore.
Yeah, Mr C!!

Pretty sure that one kid went on to be in Pulse 2010.
You're right :)
Good call with the haircut and beard 🤛
Man, I miss this sort of design in WGI. I'm fine with show concepts being just a backdrop/vibe that focuses on the playing.
That was some sick s**t! Damn!!’

I hope to get someone to train kids like this, if not myself

Would love to see Brandon Valley’s Dystopia
so probably a foolish request, as it's a kit thing, but have you ever seen the Zach Hill February practice video?

It would be cool to see if/where these people might be playing now
Should I fully tape my sticks or does it matter?
Go Hens!

Yo EMC productions u should react to the Hebron band 2022
Video 20 of asking EMC to make a video of him playing the Rock Band game series
He needs to play clone hero drums!
I feel like I missed something. When and why did he stop using the classic intro
I'm a drummer for aux for HVP
Not Burton grip in the marimbas… twas traditional
