New drummer here - somehow found the Sput video a year ago and have watched it dozens of times - tho inexperienced it struck me as utterly brilliant and unattainable - thanks to this video I now understand why.
It's not fair how frickin' incredible Sput is.
He's in that very small group of musicians like Dave Grohl, Sufjan Stevens and Prince who are both world-class at multiple instruments and also great band leaders.

You can be a drummer... banging away, keeping the music in rhytmic check! ... and you can be a musician! That's the big blind spot to many drummers, when they try to crawl out of the practice and execution regime! NEVER EVER lose focus on what you're really doing.. PLAYING MUSIC! I was never a good drummer, cuz i always focused on the music! But my band mates always loved playing with me, even if i and they were frustrated about my lack of technique and execution!
Point is: MANY top class drummers are FIRST and foremost MUSICIANS! They play to create music! And this is what is missing from most drum-focused youtubers: they get lost in technique and execution.
Thank You for serving up Sput and reminding yourself and the rest of us what really matters!

For someone like myself that is Not a drummer. But as a fan of musicians with mind blowing instrumental ability like Sput Searight.. This was a eyes glued too the screen for me. Those tempo changes and as mentioned the ambidextrous chopping style is a enjoy too watch..

imo, Sput flew under the radar coz when Snarky Puppy blew up online with Lingus and What About Me it was Larnell on drums for those recordings. I love me those earlier Snarky albums with Sput!!

@@AndrewRooneyDrums All the current drummers in Snarky Puppy allude to things they learned or picked up from Sput. The 8" x 14" side snare/tom is an example of that.
I don't have to listen to this type of music to aknowledge that Sput is light yrs ahead of where I'm at lol I've been playing for 40 yrs but I'm a metal/heard rock drummer and focused on those genres..Top notch ✌️🧐🤘👍

Hi Andrew, what a Drummer! Fusion isn’t really my thing but genre doesn’t get in the way of appreciating an amazing drummer, he’s seriously hot!
My favourite drummer is Paulina Villarreal, drummer of The Warning - noticed you’ve not reacted to them in a while; they’ve recently performed a couple of songs in the MTV VMA show, the only band not up for an award to perform live and the only band to perform what was required one take! Songs are Evolve and More, both are absolutely fantastic, possibly their best performance ever!!!
