As a musician myself, I'm often stingy when it comes to video game music, and it's often painfully obvious to me when a video game score falls into the trap of being boring, too repetitive, or flat out plain. After listening to the Genshin Impact original soundtracks, I'm absolutely blown away by the quality and production of the music, and I'm even more impressed by the fact that these first three discs are only a fraction of the music we will be seeing from Yu-Peng Chen and his work for Genshin Impact. I am beyond excited to see where Yu-Peng Chen will take us in terms of music and original soundtracks for all the other regions in the future.
The thing is the how they choose to make this game actually. There are quite a lot of popular musicians out there doing video games from both Japanese (like Soken from ffxiv) and Korean side as well as English and French. This game would be great if they know what they are doing before release it. The target audience is unclear (gacha and coop have two different rules and trends) and how the game direction for (like is it purely for ppl who having small amount of time to play or those who playing MMOs). For company like EA, for example, if this game is marketing for ppl to go and build new games similar philosophy and content design. It seems obvious worst than a subscription base game since extra cost money is a thing unavoidable. Not like being a developer will get you extra money on doing products but more like those are for the company benefits and those who dealing on the business side and localization. 20 years ago, gaming industry isn’t like this as now. In big countries, these aren’t the problems when ppl can make up for it. But for a global market, it’s another thing to think about since you can’t say sorry to ppl who see the obvious problem with this type of trending. As a consumer, it’s sad if someone has gambling issues that they can’t or should not play something to follow the trends that you can’t have. “Don’t you guys have phones” thing... A lot of things to think first before speaking about music and animation side of gaming culture nowadays (which is not the main theme of the game isn’t design for that particular reason). Most of part of the improvements are technology advance to think of like having cross platform games (and well Google stadia is in that middle thing right now)
I was thinking about the quality of the music on game launch, and why it was so good. I'm no musician. My conclusion, maybe faulty, is that in the game industry you have "game industry musicians" mostly. A lot of them get very good at making "game music". China's game industry is barely existent, so where are these game musicians? There aren't any. So they get a musician from the film industry, Yu-Peng Chen, and I think the difference is evident. This isn't really music you expect to hear in a game. Each piece has like its own narrative structure and feel like they're meant to evoke a certain feeling (rather than be background music); very much like a film soundtrack.
You must have very high ideals of music. I don't know what kind of games you play, or how many of them are good, but I've found plenty of master pieces from videogames, at least for me. Boring, repetitive? I would like to know what are your standars, Mr. Musician.

Every time I hear the Photon of Fluctuation motifs, that reminds of the Traveler Aether. Because, think about it. Since the major characters have their motif themes, why not create the theme songs for two traveler twins, Aether & Lumine? Since Lumine has her theme song "Destined Parting", I was wondering what kind the theme song will be for Aether the Traveler. If it's not his theme, because of the another song played in Genshin Impact Travail Teaser(through it's not yet confirmed in soundtrack), maybe it should be his battle theme as well.
