To clarify- I don’t think I should feel bad when people who CHOOSE not to get the vaccine get sick from COVID
I also labeled people against the vaccine as anti vaccine- I didn’t think that was contentious
A lot of people are pro-vaccine but specifically skeptical of the covid vaccine
Either way I don’t think what you said was a big deal 🤷🏼♂️
You also are disagreeing with the cdc. Kinda anti science no?
Heyy you wouldn't be saying that if Hank Pecker was standing right infront of you, you keyboard warrior!!!
It just wasn’t worded like that in the video. But I mean that’s what this channel is all about. Sparking a bit of controversy. And I enjoy it 🙂 Good video.
If your lifting your mask every 5 seconds are you really wearing a mask, your wearing an excuse on your face to explain away an actual non issue, did you know that even with your positive spin on a vaccine you can still catch covid spread it and die from it, I know allot more people who do have the vaccine who get sick substantially more compared to the latter being those who don't have the vaccine, those folks being old and young, huge L everyone wearing a mask your not helping and it isn't helping you and its literally helping nobody I live in a small town and all the people bringing there germs are maskers on vacation ... Why are you on vacation if you believe so heavily in this and are people who appear to genuinely be scared of the air, it's making you look like a bunch of scared unhinged idiots living out your own nightmare perpetuating the problem your so afraid of, your a stupid baseless bastard highhorseing on the stage of pandemic and altruism without the real life degree to justify your high horsing, your the problem. I'm on the board for a (much smaller, ~5k) convention on the east coast, and I think the change in requirement might have come from talent. They're the draw, and people show up to see them. If they weren't willing to come without a stricter policy, that's a major reason to do it. Generally, if people are upset, you weather the storm and let it blow over. Talent upset? That jeopardizes the whole event. The swap probably broke even on the number of people mad, but the hassle of handling refunds and attempting to enforce the policy are far more effort. I'd be surprised if a change-up like this didn't have an additional impetus.
I assume there was something else because pre-order sales can seem pretty low. 15k doesn't seem unexpected or bad 2 months out if you're looking for 30k attending, since a lot of people buy last-minute or on-site if it's available. I don't think they'd be scared enough for those numbers to warrant something like this, since the trade-off can't be that big a difference.
The final alternative is they're just banking on people not getting refunds.
The fact that you just get into the topic instead of beating around it is so nice
Conventions keep doing this "no requirements, oops people are mad, ok requirements" thing that just ends up making everyone upset
Yes It’s partly the constant goal post moving that pissing everyone off. The other part is that people are treating each other like 2nd class citizens over this. It’s disgusting
Because the people that bought the tickets are the ones ok with whatever guidelines were set in place. Why are you trying to appease people who don't have money down. Corporations always make this mistake where they take their target demographic for granted, and chase after people outside of their target demographic. This in turn makes them lose their core audience, and then everything crashes and burns.
Hey Patterrz, you know what? You rock, thanks.
Twitch just caved to the loud minority
Seriously. Just pick one and stick to it. Flip flopping just makes everyone mad.
even though twitch did switch plans ,regarding covid restrictions, the tickets were originally non-refundable but when they changed the restrictions they did send an email and allowed ticket holders to get a refund from August 12th (announcement made) to August 19th which i think was a good course of action

I think it comes down to the area and how big the event is. In the US now, a lot of people are done with the pandemic and could care less about masking and other restrictions. But with an event like TwitchCon where not only cases are rising in the area but people from all over the states are flying in to the event, it could end up being a super spreader like you said. I think the part of the story where a lot of people are upset is how Twitch said one thing, but once a certain group of people got mad about the lack of restrictions, Twitch changed their guidelines to make that specific group happy (which made everyone else upset). I think Twitch was smart in requiring masks, but I really don’t like how a lot of events are changing their rules in order to please what seems like a few angry people on Twitter (bit of an exaggeration but you get the point).
Otakon (Anime Convention on the East Coast) did Mask REQUIRED and Vaccination or PCR test to go in. While it was certainly impossible to control everyone to be wearing a mask, most people where actually complying. Even with the strict requirements, Otakon broke all forecasts and did record numbers.
I think more people would be outraged if showering a day before attending the event was a mandate
Well obviously! We all know that the mandate should be day of, have you seen some of these people

I might be wrong about this, but if I were Twitch, I wouldn't look at twitch con like a money making event. I'd look at it as marketing. Twitch is developing a community around their platform and no matter what you do on the platform, they make money off of you being on it. Ideally, the event breaks even or is profitable, but it isn't a huge loss as long as it keeps people excited and staying on Twitch. The competing event basically fulfills the same function of TwitchCon without Twitch spending money on it and will be where people they've alienated by their change of policy will be able to go. I think it is likely a win for Twitch.
That’s a pretty good way of thinking about it
Yeah I think with most huge events like this the goal is mostly to break even including paying the staff. The trouble is that the investment is huge. Hopefully they budgeted with smaller attendance in mind.
A community of bikinis, hot tubs, far left favoritism, and sexism.
The sole purpose of marketing is to make... Ah I forgot
if twitch cared about marketing they would have an 18+ section so advertisers wouldnt be wherry about they children's game ad appearing right after some chick showed her chevage while riding a banana floaty. all im saying is twitch would make much, much more money, keep advertisements separated to appease the companies, and the people streaming the content would end up making more money because it would bring people who would have never been to twitch to the site and they will donate to see a girl fart so trust me, revenue would go up. the only reason the people streaming the content dont want a 18+ section is A. 15%-25% of their audience are minors B. they dont want to be called sex workers which I mean, little late for that once your chocolate starfish is on onlyfans.
Keep up the Mogul Mail, Lud. I appreciate it!
And although it seems better to stick to the same policies for an event, they can be changed if the scenarios change ofc. And among other things, organizations such as Twitch should not be so reckless and make policies that end up changing. Restrictions and requirements for an event are primary in event organization and if the smart people at Twitch cannot come up with an elaborate policy, then it feels like they need a better event management team or stakeholders.
btw a lot of people did get sick after eu twitchcon so thank god they’re trying to do something this time
It is really funny to spend money that Twitch gave you to host an event that will compete directly with Twitch's own event, too bad it's for this reason though
I think it’s funny how people still think being vax’d will stop transmission when the cdc said the opposite. Also, you should see how many masks are in the ocean and forest now.

You're right about not changing rules. Everyone is pretty divided on this so any rule will upset a lot of people, but if you stick to your original guidelines, all your complaints will come when you announce them at first, not closer to when the event is supposed to be. If TwitchCon had instated these rules from the jump, we wouldn't even be talking about them right now.
They allowed refunds though.
Right! If these were the rules from the start I’d have more time to sort myself out and decide if I can attend based on requirements and what I can do based on that. I wouldn’t be discussing this around with people if it was the same from the get go
But the fact the literally changed rules after tickets had been bought and plans made was dumb and inconvenient, makes me anxious they will keep changing it on me. Not sure I’ll be able to scramble around and meet their changing desires on the fly just to make it to the event, but I’ve been looking forward to this for a few years so I guess I’ll have to.
@@nic_ayaMany people buy plane tickets, hotels, etc. It's not about the event ticket itself for many people.
Minor correction on Amsterdam - it was still a massive super spreader event. Loads of CCs even from the US, who travelled over, caught it. For a couple days after the event almost everyone I knew who went was testing positive
I'm getting flashbacks to Tanacon. Can't wait to see another hastily cobbled together creator event competing with an event planned out and hosted by a big corporation.

This is like the Michael Scott Paper Company arc of the office
They should probably just pick a rule set and stick with it. You know there is gonna be at least one guy who read the rule when he bought the ticket, didn't know that it changed, and will try to get into the event without a negative test result because he didn't know. Changing the rules after ticket sales is like changing the user agreement after signing, isn't fair to the customer.

It makes sense why twitch con would update their guidelines. SDCC returned earlier this year and it had harsh covid guidelines, so it’s just obvious that another con in the same area/building would take the same precautions. I hope twitch con has as good as staff as SDCC because guards there were super strict about the mask rules.
Regardless of why Twitch actually did it, cases ARE surging in the area where they're holding TwitchCon. Their reasons could be profit-motivated, but in this case, it aligns with trying to help keep cases down. Saying "don't change anything ever after it's announced" in a pandemic is an easy but ultimately reckless stance.
Also this whole "oh don't change anything after you've done it" is such an dumb stance. You react and change according to circumstances. This video was kinda weird, sorry man.

i’m glad twitch changed the guideline, no matter the reason.
Honestly, restrictions should change depending on the place the convention is hosted, like if covid’s a big issue, more restrictions, if it’s not, then less restrictions
I wear a mask nearly all day every day cause I am auto-immune with a neuromuscular disease called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating polyneuropathy. I have have Covid 4 times now the last 2 years. I am still getting Covid and still surviving it despite being on immune suppressants. I simply do not believe that many people are actually dying from it now. I don't know anyone personally who has died from it in the last year. I am sure some people do, but some people die from a lot of things. We have put our lives on hold for 2 years, I would wear a mask regardless because of my disease but I think it's a joke people don't have a choice. Here in Texas no one wears a mask anymore (except me practically ) and again I don't know anyone who has had Covid in the last 6 months. Maybe it's cause of the hot weather, but either way people are so fearful of this weak cold.
Covid is a big deal tho. It’s bigger and worse than it’s ever been before but people have just got bored with it and don’t think it’s a problem anymore
In Texas its been over 2 years since I have been required to where a mask.
ive been to 2 events since covid: a declan mckenna concert in bristol september last year and a rugby game in cardiff (wales v fiji) in november of last year and at both events all you had to do was show proof of either a negative lat flow test (conformation email) or proof of vaccination on the nhs app. it takes 2 seconds to do this when event tickets are being checked
I'm not anti vax. I just haven't gotten the vaccine. Guess that makes me anti vax
The lineup is gonna be hell for Twitch Con, I presume. Went to a local con and they had a mandatory covid passport system in place. It was a fantastic 3hr queue to get in for pre-purchased ticket holders on a balmy 85ºF sunny day. The first day was even worse, the lineup was so slow that people that waited all day couldn't even get in before the venue closed. If the con organizer doesn't have the resources to do it properly when it's not legally necessary to do so in the first place, they shouldn't even bother.
His idea is great, the only way to make sure is to test at the door.

Personally I think the best course of action is to go off what the local guidelines are. If the local guidelines dont require much, then the event shouldn't, and vice versa. That way if people are upset they can take it to their local government.
If a complete stranger wants to do something that puts them at more risk than myself, I do not care.
I don't even care enough to try and keep them away from public events.
Leave people alone to do with their lives what they want.
This is only acceptable if there are no people who CAN'T get the vaccine.
It would also be acceptable only if the people putting themselves at risk OWNED it when they got COVID. You should not get a hospital bed for weeks if you're unvaccinated and dying of COVID.
It was ridiculous that people who didn't care if they got sick or others sick suddenly got VIP hospital treatment when they couldn't breathe. Antivaxxers should get to share three beds in the same room. Three per hospital, max.

As someone who lives in the EU and NL specific, reasons being the CoViD restrictions were so relaxed is because at the beginning of last year and the year before that we were very on the nose about vaccines. people got invited and pushed hard to kinda get vaccines, anti vaccs isnt really a big thing or as widespread as it was in america and in general the regulations/free healthcare made sure that people were safer alot quicker hence why i think the relaxed regulations are justified
