Again, Arthur's parents are the type to torture Arthur, then wonder why he never talks to them when he's an adult; I'd want to see an episode down the road where Arthur puts them in the cheapest nursing home possible in Elwood City
2:10 Binky messing up various deserts through the episodes is one of my all time favorite TV gags. I love how he just rolls with it. He wants to know the right way to make the recipe, so he is genuinely glad to be corrected.
And it works well too because he's just a kid barely any older than Arthur, albeit a big one, and things like "remove the shells from the nuts before putting them into the pie" or "sugar is what makes it sweet" seem like total no-brainers but might not occur to a literal 9-year-old making his first attempt at baking.

Im watching the special right now. I gotta say, Busters story is kinda heartbreaking. His mom is worried Christmas wont be the same for him since the divorce and tries her best to make every Christmas amazing for him. 😢
This special probably has one of the most realistic portrayals of Chirstmas. Including some of the often-ignored stresses of the holiday season. It was cool to see other holidays represented too, if only briefly. The most unrealistic thing in this is how the kids were in school right until Chirstmas, maybe that was different in the 90s, but I always found that strange.
@@wesleyhunt7599 When I was in elementary school, in the early 90's, we got out in the 19th and the whole day was one big party. We went back to school on January 2nd.
In high school, I remember that I'd be out of school on the 21st at the latest. We got three weeks of winter break as well so we'd be back in school the middle of January.
This season, let's rejoice that "Tina the Talking Tabby" didn't become a recurring thing, like the snowball, crazy bus, or the existence of D.W. Great message to not have D.W. punished for yelling that she didn't get the gift she wanted. I'm sure many kids took that to Heart. Also, how does Francine not realize that Muffy is a terrible friend? Sure, she's rich, but her fantasies always have Francine as the laborer... and she mocks her religion too. I guess money can buy friendship!
In regards to Francine and Muffy, I think after this special came out they probably heard some similar criticisms and did a better job of showing Muffy genuinely trying to be a good friend, even if she misunderstands exactly what it is Francine really wants. Francine's Bad Hair Day comes to mind, Muffy's actions are not the right ones but you can tell they're coming from a place of care and that she mostly just wants her friend to have a nice looking school photo.
The one thing that I identified with on this show was the family dynamic. I also have a younger sister and since she was born most of the attention and care has been given to her. Every effort has been made to try and make her happy since day one. Anything she wanted my parents did their best to give her. Even when she got older. At 16 I got a hand me down car while my parents bought her a much newer one. When that was wrecked, they bought her an even newer one. I had to save to get myself a decent car. She does nothing around the house while I do all the chores. When she decided to go to college and wanted to go to an expensive school, our dad didn’t agree to co-sign her loans so she guilted our mom into signing and now doesn’t talk to our dad because of it. Even today, I can not go to my parents with any type of problem because I am a man and should be able to deal with everything by myself always while my sister is a woman who my parents feel can’t do anything at all for herself.
I'd also wish you gave an extra F/U to Mrs Read for going Christmas shopping 3 days before the holiday, especially when DW wanted a Tina the Talking Tabby. It's a hot toy.
@@migiplayz91 But we're not supposed to necessarily think of them as animals as we watch, it's like how Binky, Fern and Prunella are all dogs but so are Pal and Rory.
In all seriousness, though, this is far and away the best of the Arthur specials. Its pacing is excellent. The morals are also very well-delivered--though I have to assume this is before "Long, Cold Winter," where Arthur is adamant that a holiday be about celebrating or acknowledging something important, rather than the superficial trappings. The lore is expanded--Fracine's Jewish upbringing is referenced in several later episodes, with a cousin having a Bar Mitzvah and her grandmother visiting for Yom Kippur. And of course, Baxter Day. It also helps that the musical numbers are limited to the bigger kids, rather than D.W. and her friends and that the music is all in their heads rather than sung out loud. Extended imagine spots work for Arthur far better than the kids actually singing like they do in latter specials.

Part of me would love to see an series of FU Muffy Crosswire. Sometimes, this spoiled brat can be worse than DW as she constantly mistreats everyone around her, takes credit from those who put in the effort, and do I need to mention on how toxic her friendship is with Francine?
@@purkle200 Yeah, but it was Muffy who started this toxic relationship as she was the one who cheated on Francine's test and tossed Francine under the bus by say she was the one who cheated. This resulted in Francine getting detention for something she didn't do, and instead of properly apologizing, Muffy said that she did it because of a reputation she had to go uphold. True, Muffy did eventually tell the teacher that she was the one who cheated on that test, which resulted in a 2 week detention, but the only reason why she did that was because her baseball team was losing and they needed Francine to win. Plus, she tried to bribe Francine by giving her the bracelet that was originally supposed to symbolize their friendship.
@OmnicidalClown1992 I'm not talking about their relationship. I'm talking about how Francine can be a toxic hypocritical and bossy bully to her 'friends' (example: The episode where to teased Fern relentlessly and couldn't take it herself when she got her karma). Muffy is a toxic jerk, but Francine is usually unsympathetic most of the time which again like I previously stated, makes me not feel bad for her when Muffy mistreats her.

D.W. (whines) "I WANTED TINA THE TALKING TABBY!!!" Patrick Star: (shouts) "WILL YOU CLAM UP?!" (throws a shoe at D.W.) Me: "Thank you, Patrick! I thought she'd NEVER shut up!"
So, here is a story: Back in 2018, the only thing I really wanted for Christmas was a plushie of Webby from the DuckTales reboot. I was at the peak of my fandom for the show, and Webby was my absolute favorite character (nowadays, she shares the title with Della), so of course I would’ve loved to own the plushie of her. But unlike DW and her stupid tabby cat, my family actually managed to get Webby for me - despite the plush apparently being hard to find- largely because they, shocker, shopped *ahead* of time and didn’t save it for the very last minute. I personally believe that DW’s behaviour isn’t unrealistic (it’s actually quite realistic for a kid her age), but since Jane had such a time crunch, it’s no wonder that DW didn’t get Tina the Talking Tabby. P.S. I still own the Webby plush to this day
My mom once spent many, many days tracking down a Gatomon toy for me because I had my heart set on one. She finally found a beanie-baby style one, and I was ecstatic and still have it. And again, it's because my mom planned in advance and didn't wait until Christmas Eve to try and find it.
@@butterflyslinky PBG pointed this out too, as much as DW was being a spoiled brat throwing that tantrum and all, this was still entirely on her mom, who waited until THREE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS EVE to shop for presents and expected to find the hottest toy of the season still in stock.
@@okjeffy6581 Yes, it is official. I wouldn’t have asked for it way back when if it wasn’t official. And yes, official Webby plushies have been a thing since the reboot moved to Disney Channel six years ago

D.W.: It's because Arthur wrote my letter all wrong, isn't it? No, it's because your mom is too weak to tell you that you're a naughty girl who just needs a good spanking.
As a kid I hated Francine, but I felt really bad for her in this episode (I don’t hate Francine anymore but she is really annoying at times. Muffy’s far worse though because Francine was mostly annoying in earlier episodes of the series)
Muffy is just like Peppermint Patty in this episode. Francine had told Muffy several times that she couldn't make it to her Christmas party because she was celebrating Hannakah with her family, but Muffy wouldn't listen! It's just like how Charlie Brown tried to explain to Peppermint Patty that he and his family weren't going to be home. Yet she didn't listen and invited herself, Marcie, and Franklin over to Charlie Brown's house for Thanksgiving!
My thoughts on the FUs you given to the Arthur characters: Mr Ratburn:Agreed, even though I think the homework doesn't seem to bad. Buster:Not really, as it's really wasn't his fault at all. The Brain:Maybe but I never tried those ice cream flavours at the same time. Binky:Yeah in some ways I can get why you're mad with him, even I thought that Binky could have done alot better with his cooking skills. But I did thought the running gag was funny as well as when Binky was in Arthur's dream sequence. Jeffrey Zahn and Peter Hirsch: Disagree as the songs in this were pretty good. Mr (David) Read: I guess but it's a interesting meal idea to do on Christmas. Mrs (Jane) Read:Yes I agree, as she also did wait until 3 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS to do her shopping!!!! Uncle Fred: I agree with the reasoning, but besides that Uncle Fred is just a wonderful character in this Christmas special and it's a darn shame that he doesn't return at all after this. Francine:Good reason, but still. Arthur:I agree with the reason, could have just kept it in his room like I would do. Muffy:Yes, and she should have done more towards Francine. DW:110% agreed, if I was Santa I would put DW on the naughty list every single year. Until she stop being a little bitch.
FU DW have been the best series on UA-cam ever! Thank you for everything you did Matt Nef! Very proud of you and great job on reaching around 9,0 subscribers and keep it up on getting 10,000 subscribers the more of them you do the better and awesomeness of reaching the goal to 10,000 subscribers!
D.W. should not have waited until three days before Christmas to write her wish list to Santa, and Arthur and the Mom should not have waited until two days before Christmas to do their shopping! Then it wouldn't become the "Arthur" version of "Caillou Joins the Circus!" "D.W. was in a very bad mood because she didn't get Tina the Talking Tabby!"
Although the movie is called "Arthur's Perfect Christmas", I believe that the special proves once and for all that nobody is perfect and even the final song in the show states and I quote "Sometimes the thing you hope for isn't the thing you get." Which D.W. should have realized proves it to be true. I'm super glad you put it in perspective for virtually every one of the main characters in this series. but I've just gotta say, I get that Muffy is a spoiled Rich Kid. She's no Pippi Longstocking despite the fact that her actress Melissa Altro got her start playing the freckle-faced red-haired girl in the animated series and movie, however you're right, she should not have disrespected Chanukah. All the same, I do believe that D.W. is a bigger brat than Muffy. I swear to god, if someone just told her the truth about Santa Claus, maybe that would get her to change. Or... maybe it'd be better if Grandpa Dave told Angelica about what happens to bad kids at Christmas just like Grandpa Lou did in Rugrats.
I remember being just like Dw when I was younger and I, casually, gave my family hell during every and all Christmases until I was 8. We would always do a huge family gathering at my uncle's house and pretty much all of my extended family was there. I'd complain, i'd cry, and my mom would always have to take me home early. One time I even screamed at her up the stairs, "Thanks a lot Mom, you ruined my Christmas." Thank god I grew out of that.

The kid he has is an exact copy of D.W His son pulled a D.W this last Christmas and went on a tirade about where his presents were when we were doing gift exchanges with some relatives. We’re all having a groovy sorta time until “WHERE IS MY PRESENT?! DID I NOT GET ANYTHING?! I HATE YOU PEOPLE, YOU ARE ALL STUPID.” You could’ve heard a ghost sneeze and .. let’s just say my little cousin got his first ever whitewash for being a spoiled brat. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is definitely odd for D.W. to want to write her letter *now* since she was writing it back when Francine and Brain were arguing over the soccer game.
Oh, that's an excellent one. D.W.'s awful--and her parents are surprisingly grounded. Mrs. Read says explicitly that she expects D.W. to donate unused toys, that she has discussed it off-screen with D.W. before now--so it's not a surprise, and she's clearly displeased when D.W. tries to justify keeping two year old stuffed animals.
For some reason, whenever the kids said "And now, back to Aurthur!", to me it always sounded more like "And now, back to author!", ever since I was little.
I thought it was good that they covered the different holidays of December was a great idea. They did wait too long to plan what they wanted for Christmas. You’re making a great point about Mr.Read. DW was a total terror in this one.
11:19 And the last seasons of the show essentially retired the character of Grandpa Dave with no Explanation to what happened to him whether or not he's gone to a retirement home or if he's dead
Happy Holidays, Matt! That was a crap ton of FUs to every Arthur character in this holiday special, but do Arthur, Buster, Francine, Binky and The Brain really deserve an FU? Arthur and Francine were clearly the victims of DW and Muffy you know. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy 2024! 😉👍🎄🎅🎁❄⛄🕎
@@ElFreakinCid Agreed. Maybe Uncle Fred would’ve been a better parent to Arthur than Jane and David, and he hadn’t done anything wrong in Arthur’s Perfect Christmas, so why would he get an FU for bringing his rowdy dog Rory over to the Read’s house?

Hey Matt, I hope you are feeling better. I would like to thank you for the FU DW videos. Me, my sister, and nephew get a kick out of your videos every week. I wish you a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. I have a lot to say about this episode. DW and the parents really pissed me off this episode. First, DW finding another song to annoy Arthur is just psychotic. She never takes his feelings into account and then wants to blame him when things don't work out for her. The way she blamed Arthur for writing her letter was stupid because she told him what to write, I wouldn't be surprised if she made him read it to her dozens of times to make sure it's right. DW throwing a tantrum over not the toy she wanted in infamous. This tantrum puts all of DW's negative traits on display. She's being ungrateful, annoying, bratty, and selfish. Mrs. Read takes the cake for this episode. First of all, why would go shopping a few days before Christmas thinking you're going to find the hottest toy of the season? On top of that, when she tried to hint to DW she may not get the toy wanted, Mrs. Read sat back and let DW blame Arthur for not writing her letter. This further proves that the parents are the cause for the toxic relationship between Arthur and DW. I've noticed in past episodes that when DW is about get upset or throw a tantrum, the parents look scared. Hey dummies, YOU BOTH ARE THE PARENTS!!! IF DW IS GOING TO BE UPSET ABOUT NOT GETTING HER WAY, DO YOUR JOB AS PARENTS. TELL THAT SHE BETTER BE GRATEFUL AND IF SHE WILL GET MAD TELL HER SHE'S GROUNDED FOR A LONG TIME!! I liked the statement you made about Uncle Frank not being seen again because he didn't want to be around DW. I choose to believe that is why we don't see too many of Arthur's relatives. They don't want to be around DW because of her behavior, so they call Arthur in private to talk to him and give him encouragement. Muffy was an asshole in this episode, but unlike DW, when Muffy does something wrong, she will take responsibility for actions and apologize, something DW has never done. Happy Holidays Matt. FU DW. FU MRS. READ 👍👍
10:42 To play devil child's advocate, DW did seem to be at least TRYING to handle the situation with some maturity. Sure, she only lasted two seconds, but the effort's still there 😄

Im watching the special right now. I gotta say, Busters story is kinda heartbreaking. His mom is worried Christmas wont be the same for him since the divorce and tries her best to make every Christmas amazing for him. 😢
Same 😢😢😢😢
This special probably has one of the most realistic portrayals of Chirstmas. Including some of the often-ignored stresses of the holiday season. It was cool to see other holidays represented too, if only briefly.
The most unrealistic thing in this is how the kids were in school right until Chirstmas, maybe that was different in the 90s, but I always found that strange.
I always got out the Friday before the weekend of Christmas, ie around the 23rd. For me, this is normal.
@@wesleyhunt7599 When I was in elementary school, in the early 90's, we got out in the 19th and the whole day was one big party. We went back to school on January 2nd.
What's odder is that if you look closely at Ratburn's calendar, you can see him plan a test on a Saturday.
In high school, I remember that I'd be out of school on the 21st at the latest. We got three weeks of winter break as well so we'd be back in school the middle of January.
This special came out in 2001.
The Read Parents must've known DW wasn't a normal kid, when they saw her crawling on the ceiling in the hospital.
Speaking of the Read Parents’ crap this holiday, did they even get their son anything in this special?
@@owenkeys3937They got him a picture of their favorite child so he’ll always know his place
@@nationalinstituteofcheese3012 If that’s not a reason for him to get emancipated, I don’t know what is.
If crazy bus and Tina the talking Tina didn’t exist this would make me happy 😂
Wheres Krampus when you need him?

Wouldn't he kill her as well. Well I guess even DW can Bother Kampus enough to get him to avoid her as possible.
I'd also wish you gave an extra F/U to Mrs Read for going Christmas shopping 3 days before the holiday, especially when DW wanted a Tina the Talking Tabby. It's a hot toy.
She knew D.W would be a problem if she did buy Tina the talking Tabby. And also as Matt pointed out, Elwood city has a cat person population.
I'm surprised that Mrs. Read waited that long to go Christmas shopping in the first place! Don't most other people get done by then?
@@migiplayz91 But we're not supposed to necessarily think of them as animals as we watch, it's like how Binky, Fern and Prunella are all dogs but so are Pal and Rory.
@@melissacooper8724 Mrs. Read never seen Jingle All The Way.
Oh absolutely, this is one of my favorite Christmas specials

Part of me would love to see an series of FU Muffy Crosswire. Sometimes, this spoiled brat can be worse than DW as she constantly mistreats everyone around her, takes credit from those who put in the effort, and do I need to mention on how toxic her friendship is with Francine?
Francine is also toxic at times and an annoying sister to her older sister. I never felt bad for Francine. 😂

So, here is a story:
Back in 2018, the only thing I really wanted for Christmas was a plushie of Webby from the DuckTales reboot.
Cool I have a webby plush as well
@@butterflyslinky PBG pointed this out too, as much as DW was being a spoiled brat throwing that tantrum and all, this was still entirely on her mom, who waited until THREE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS EVE to shop for presents and expected to find the hottest toy of the season still in stock.
Is it an official Webby Plush? I didn’t know those were even made.
@@okjeffy6581 Yes, it is official. I wouldn’t have asked for it way back when if it wasn’t official. And yes, official Webby plushies have been a thing since the reboot moved to Disney Channel six years ago
She should be thankful that she got something close to Tabby. There is not always the time you get something you wish for.
In mexico I saw this adult swim esque cartoon about eggs and one was about a bad santa. The quote I always remember remember thinking about this scene is when egg santa says in Spanish "it's all thats coming to you. It's not like you acted so good in the first place. If you don't like it I'll take it back, ungrateful. There's kids in Africa who don't even have anything to eat, and you complaining about your gift" trust me it's funnier in Spanish
I’d love to see more Angelica from Rugrats videos! There are SO MANY episodes worthy of covering. If you could at least once a month that would be amazing. I think one of my favorite Angelica getting what she deserves is The Trial where she breaks Tommy’s lamp.
And what about the one where she made Stu lose control of his life
That was the one I mentioned as well in one of Matt's community tabs.

You can't always get what you want...
Especially on Christmas.
(Believe me, I know.)
Agree, like when I wanted some Bionicle toys back in 2001 (the year it debut) sadly they were so popular, they were all sold out... I did get other stuff like a bunch of Play-Doh and Coca-Cola glass bottle in my stocking, plus a Kikkoman soy sauce t-shirt.

@@melissacooper8724 Of course... I mean who doesn't love Play-Doh? and drinking Coca-Cola around Christmas time is a little tradition of mine and the Kikkoman shirt... I no longer have it since well I was 4 years old when I got that shirt so yeah.
But Muffys pompous and has a butler who loves his job despite having to deal with her selflessness, though we barely see her parents
Yea Francine did annoy me in the first season of Arthur. Like she just made fun of Arthur for no good reason. His glasses, his loose tooth... so much.
I remember when Muffy first showed up and cheated off of Francines test. I felt bad for Francine. She was able to forgive Muffy but damn. FU Muffy.
Hi Gummigoo…
My thoughts on the FUs you given to the Arthur characters:
Mr Ratburn:Agreed, even though I think the homework doesn't seem to bad.
I wouldn’t say every single year. I would just say D.W should be on the naughty list for life
Also, I'd imagine a Levant-themed Christmas dinner might be more frugal as well as tasty.

13:16 the ultimate FU to all the characters here
Although the movie is called "Arthur's Perfect Christmas", I believe that the special proves once and for all that nobody is perfect and even the final song in the show states and I quote "Sometimes the thing you hope for isn't the thing you get." Which D.W. should have realized proves it to be true.
I doubt they would actually tell DW about santa, since she's like 4. I know she's gotta find out eventually, but I mean that's a little too soon.
I can’t imagine the shit she would pull If DW knew that Santa was never real.
