  • The Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 136 has arrived at my foot steps, and today I will give you my first impressions as I am unwrapping it. The Sportsman Autopilot is top fishing kayak and an award winning kayak some dub as the first "smart kayak". Thanks to it's 45-lb thrust Minn kota, it can utilize spot lock technology driven by the GPS enabled Minn Kota I-Pilot electric motor. A later review of this kayak will release after some water time, enjoy the video. For more information on this kayak please visit www.oldtowncanoe.com/

      Very nice so far, got her rigged up to go in 6 inches of water although I don't recommend it....It's possible though! Will get into those details later.

    Would love to get one, but just bought a PA14 360 instead. No battery for trolling motor and no registration sold me. But the AP136 sure looks like one hell of a nice kayak.

    When facing deeper water swells say like in Baffin Bay this kayak would be awesome. Spot lock technology does away with anchors which can scare trout when using. Back bays maybe not so much, but each kayak has its uses for different waters. Definitely a kayak that would have to be trailered as opposed to loading in a truck bed, not that it couldn’t be loaded in a truck, but trailering makes it easier.

      Do you do much fishing in Baffin? I'm looking to get a Kayak for getting into the north part of the Callo del Grullo and into Los Olmos Creek from Site 55 for duck hunting. Any Kayak recomendations?

      You are going to love it bro, be sure to hit those terminals with dielectric grease. That would be my only recommendation. I haven’t had any issues yet but I’ve like anything in the salt, ya must protect it.

    • @Fishingwithdaboys
      @Fishingwithdaboys 2 роки тому

      @@NextLevelFishingTV can you elaborate on this info because I will only use it for salt water fishing! Thank you In advance

    • @NextLevelFishingTV
      @NextLevelFishingTV  2 роки тому +1

      @@Fishingwithdaboys of course, so dielectric grease is almost like a Vaseline substance. The idea of it is to put it on any electrical terminal that is open to the air or can be hit by water. So, my advice is to put some inside two areas. The front right where you plug your motor in, and under your seat where you plug your battery in. Put some on the prongs and inside the terminals when you get it and any moisture or saltwater won’t be able to penetrate the gel to touch any metal.
      This is the same stuff you’ll see mechanics use on your car battery when you first get it. You can use it generously if ya want, it won’t hurt anything. Just keep in mind that once on and let’s say you drop the minnkota plug on dirt or sand, it will pickup every grain of it. Whip it off and reapply as needed. I put this stuff on fresh every year to twice a year. I also use it on my fish finder on anything that’s exposed.

      @@gregjulian1044 Why do you need so many batteries I thought one 110AH lasts the whole day. Also on the topic of speed, is the 45 lb thrust too weak/slow?

    • @gregjulian1044
      @gregjulian1044 2 місяці тому

      @@golforfishing I fish inshore mostly and some offshore on the Texas gulf coast. I use some electronics such as my graph and some other gadgets. I can stay out all day and battle some severe tides at times which can easily manage. The 45 lb thrust is fine and depending on the wind direction and tide, manage 4mph on high and less speed if going against the wind and the tide. I never want to run out of battery and be stranded in adverse conditions.

    Have you gone on a "sleigh ride" with it? I'm kinda curious how that weight + drag tires a big fish.

    • @NextLevelFishingTV
      @NextLevelFishingTV  2 роки тому

      By big fish if you mean offshore, I haven’t yet. Texas conditions would have to be smooth calm for me to take the AP offshore. Hopefully I’ll get a few windows this year with it.
      As for inshore I can say that larger reds to have a problem pulling it around. Very much feels like fishing on a small micro skiff.

    • @NextLevelFishingTV

      Probably price. You can get the 120 for 3800 and the 136 for 4200. I’m sure with those features we’d be looking at a more expensive entry unit.

      If you are on a budget, go Lead 12v 100Ah (FYI they are heavy) marine deep cycle (Walmart/Autozone etc). If you want to use lithium ion, go Z-PRO 12V 100ah (Expensive but very light).
