I've just had to take the EGR off my lad's Transit. Your video for removing the EGR was spot on, and thanks to this video that explains how the unit is supposed to work, I was able to understand how it was supposed to function. I avoided cleaning it with anything that would attack the aluminium, and used some bbq cleaner. 1/2 hour later, the unit is working smoothly now that all the crud has dissolved. It's now back on the van and working as it should. Thanks
Thank you for your feedback that is good info 👍
Great video, I've got a mk7 transit that's losing power uphill smoking a bit when it does! Going to try n clean valve !! Cheers
Thank you for your feedback. It's not a bad job to be fair.
EGR's arent for burning soot. The particular emission they reduce is Nitrous Oxides (NOx).
They divert the exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber, which lowers combustion temperature, which prevents the formation of NOx.
Soot is particulate matter formed as a result of incomplete combustion. It is present in exhaust gas, but it is not exclusively what the EGR diverts, and its not the problem the EGR is trying to solve.
Thank you for your input
Hi. I've got a machanic changing the EGR valve. For some reason while doing this he has soaked the whole engine with engine oil. Not sure if he knows what he is doing. Is this a normal thing that happens when changing or is he messing up my van? Thanks.
Is it coverdale in thick black oil marks or wet with oil, because an engine can be quite messy,
I honestly thought poncho off dirty sanchez, had started do mechanics videos
I can only wish I was that cool 😎
You are far too careful. i stripped mine without any issue, cleaned it perfectly and it's working like new
Good to hear it works, as its not a cheep part, what cleaner did you use?
@@Martysworkshop We get a decarbonising cleaning liquid in South africa, i let i lay in that stuff for two day and used Carb cleaner to wash it out.. I washed it with petrol aftrewords and tried it. It came totally free without any issues. Replaced it in the vehicle and it did close to 37ooo km again without any hickups.
Transit custom are just a heap of crap first sign trouble get rid a money pit after that
Yes they do have their problems, at least it gives me plenty of content for my channel. Thank you for watching.
Driven mine from 40000km to 250 000km. Wheel bearing on left and right front, Brake disks and pads front, only pads on the back. 2 egr valves, 1 windshield, 1 glow plug and the preheater died (eberspacher).
Take care of it and it wont brake your bank.
