Great video! Very in depth. Apple should be allowing repairs. I'd even be fine if they 'locked' repairs untill after the warranty expires, but after that people should be allowed to fix devices that they own.
Apple's environmental angle is all marketing bs, they've always wanted you to buy a new device every year and this just shows the levels they'll go to ensure it. Gross!
You don't have to buy their product. It does suck how they do things, but they do make exceptionally great products. I think If Jobs was still alive the products wouldn't increase in price so much. You have to take that into consideration.
And force our buyers to buy the charger as extra, coming in another packaging that's going to be waste. And a connection to normal USB ports, more packaging... but also more money spend. And Headphones, too... In a few years they will sell the whole Phone in single parts that you will then ship (yay shipping, CO2 but also more money, and waste through packaging) to Apple for assembly and they then ship it back in... another packaging... that's what they call eco freindly. Serously... why does anyone still buy their products? o.O

There's a product that's made for iPhone repair to swap out a broken screen for a third party unbroken screen. It's a device by the name of the JC - 1V. The device is powered by your laptop or desktop computer. The device has connections on it from top to bottom that are the exact same connectors for the display flex cable that mimic the motherboard connections for that flex cable. The device is a read and write electronics that reads and copies the software data from the broken screen stores it then you remove the broken screen flex cable from the motherboard connection on the device. Then you take the new screen and it's flex cable and attach it to the same motherboard connection on the jc-1v. It will ask you do you want to write the data on to the new screen you tap yes. The data is now transferred to your new screen that will allow you to use facial recognition true tone and touch ID on your new unbroken third-party screen.
Frankly, I wonder if the 13 will come in 2 parts: an AMOLED screen and the rest of the phone. But no... every part is locked down, so the 13'll just be a huge money mine. But then people'll quit using Apple. Which is the thing I dream of.

@@Siraj_Hulk Yes anyone "can" in theory repair an iPhone the difference with apple is that they absolutely do not supply spare parts to any unauthorized repair service (Read Non-Apple store) thus making repairs unnecessarily harder and more expensive. Now that people are using parts from genuine iPhones that have been scrapped apple is trying to pair all of the components in the phone thus making repair absolutely impossible. Do you now see why people call apple anti-repair?
@@Siraj_Hulk Anybody can take apart an iPhone and swap out parts. I know because I've done it. The issue arises with part availability and compatibility. A lot of third party parts actually have a hard time working with new iPhones and require that you buy the actual part from Apple itself, which is ridiculously costly, and they most likely won't sell you the part anyway because repairing the device yourself would void the warranty and they would want you to take it to their shops to have them repair it and charge you an even greater amount. The other issue is that a lot of their parts can be very difficult to remove without damaging due to the godly amounts of adhesive they use, and with every new phone that comes out they use more and more adhesive, most likely for the waterproofing. Not to mention they literally have different size screws and different head shaped screws for almost every screw hole which is very aggravating. These are reasons why people are calling Apple anti repair. While they're not completely "anti repair" yet, they're getting dangerously close.
this guy gets it repairs may be more expensive for the phone itself, all for an issue that could be resolved for a cheaper price, all they gotta do is make the phone look more durable, make it more weaker and inflate repair prices, in todays world they will do anything now. its obvious apple does not care about its customers, they're in it for the money. nothing else

If you need to calibrate a component that makes sense, but the locking sucks. Apple in 2030: In this year's IPhone, we only included an Apple sticker in the box because we care about the environment. Everything else is sold separately.
They shouldn't lock anything. I buy a product, that product becomes MINE, and I am free to do with it whatever I please. Apple has already fought and lost in court against third party repair shops. This wouldn't be right even if they only did it in the US and EU which have good economies and where people are able to pay for their repairs, but most people live in less wealthy countries. We have a $250 average monthly wage in mine!!! My girlfriend broke her iPhone X screen and had to pay almost $300 at the local Apple store...we went to a repair shop and she was able to fix it for $80. We could have also bought the screen online and switched it ourselves for less than $60, but I'm an Android guy and I'm not familiar with Apple's hardware.
On the 5s many people caused problems, by damaging the pcb with too long screws. It is also possible to do this with newer iPhones. Other phones use only a few types of screws, so it is harder to mismatch them and to cause damage
Remember when Apple testified in court that these issues will only present when they detect unauthorised parts, yet you clearly show them presenting with authorised parts? It's almost like... they lied under oath. Which is a federal crime.

@I Am Sekou i made my point on that as clear as i could, its irritating to go to his channel and watch an apple hate circlejerk whenever he says anything and in his community, whether it even had anything to do with apple or not, so going somewhere like Hugh’s videos where he points out the same problems (which I’m agreeing are big problems) while remaining neutral is better in my opinion.
You know, I'm perfectly fine if you like Louis, I really don't mind. Do you really think every company is perfect? Of course many people know that's not the case. And the fact you like to spark a really useless argument that I'm some sort of apple fan boy is disgusting. You should be aware that everybody has their own opinion and it doesn't matter if their right or wrong, we all have a right to speak, unless you forgot about that too. I just like people to present details in a neutral sense, it helps other people understand the content better. But I understand if you still hold a different opinion, in that case, keep it.
Wait, so let me get this straight: Apple decides to get rid of the charger in the name of reducing packaging/waste. But then decides to sell the charger anyway, except now it comes in its own individual box/packaging...🤔 Nevermind the environmental cost of shipping all those individually packaged chargers separate from the device for which they are intended... 🤦♂️
they are probably just trying to be cheap for their shareholders benefit. on the other end most people fall into the first 3 categories: 1) android users with their old charging brick. 2) iphone users with their old lightning cables 3) probably most people should be doing this: people who use Qi chargers 4) first-time smartphone users
These "transition periods" from Apple as I like to call them are always aggravating lol. With them wanting to go wireless with everything I can honestly just see them bypassing the type C port altogether on their iPhones and just going straight to the magnetic qi charging. The only thing i can see moving to type c within the next year or two would be their base line ipads and ipad minis since those can be used for productive reasons more than an iphone can. I don't understand why they kept the lightning port on the phones and put a type c port on the other end that requires a type c charging block. At that point they shoulda just made all the ports type c. I like Apple don't get me wrong, but they make a lot of senseless choices sometimes.
@@coytus94 the only bad thing is that wireless chargers are very lossy and they create waste heat, and charge significantly slower than a wired connection. Imagine Ford and GM tried this many years ago, telling car owners that if they didn't use genuine Ford and GM parts, they'd void their warranty. The carmakers were successfully sued, can't do that any more. Apple hasn't learned that lesson.
did you not watch the senate hearing. they did do this. claiming the software that runs their cars is their property and you are just renting it and if you swap out the chip you are pirated and will be prosecuted for copyright infringement and creating a counterfeit product.
@@Q5Grafx Honestly I can't catch time on CSPAN due to my work schedule. But I'm not surprised Tesla is claiming that. Back in the 1970s Ma Bell (aka AT&T) did the same with the Mickey Mouse phone. Customers later found out they had only bought the "outside shell" while the innards remained Bell System property, and of course they charged rent on the monthly bill, all the while the federal government looked the other way.
Dodge certainly tried that with the Caliber. Turns out the key has a chip in it and the car won't start without it in the ignition. If I wanted a spare key, I'd need to go to the dealership and have them program a new one. I was told this would cost about $400 for a car that is now worth $1000.
@American Freedom World Peace I think the auto CEOs got that point by 1990. It took them 10-15 years to turn things around. The problem with Apple is that they have no rival - Samsung makes the hardware but not the OS, and Google vice versa. And both Google and Apple have attacked their customers with the censoring, deplatforming and booting of users off, mistakes also being done by Fakebook, Amazon and Twit. All of these businesses now have the attitude that they own their customers, hence warranty practices like Apple's. But they don't really own them, there are alternatives. No business can stay at the peak doing these kind of things, it can only propel customers into the growing 2nd-tier competition.

I would argue that this anti-repair design is sustainable. This eliminates the redundancy of third-party repairer to gain more control on parts supply and disposal etc...

@@viggysmols6387 Agreed. Even when changing logic boards on Macs through GSX, you need to rescan all the serial numbers for parts changed, otherwise the mac complains that you've got mismatching serial numbers.
They do this so you go to the apple store for repairs and pay them more money than the phone costs to fix an issue that takes 5 minutes to fix.
this guy gets it
repairs may be more expensive for the phone itself, all for an issue that could be resolved for a cheaper price,
all they gotta do is make the phone look more durable, make it more weaker and inflate repair prices, in todays world they will do anything now.

Wait, so let me get this straight:
Apple decides to get rid of the charger in the name of reducing packaging/waste. But then decides to sell the charger anyway, except now it comes in its own individual box/packaging...🤔
Nevermind the environmental cost of shipping all those individually packaged chargers separate from the device for which they are intended... 🤦♂️
i guess they assumed you'd have your old lighning cable compatible with common usb ports
@@129-diegocustodio5 No, they assumed you'd buy their overpriced charger separately, thus making them more money.
Just bought a phone, case, ear buds, and usbc charger base--all came in their own bubble mailer /: definitely more waste
Just dont buy crap from that cancer company
they are probably just trying to be cheap for their shareholders benefit.
on the other end most people fall into the first 3 categories:
1) android users with their old charging brick.
2) iphone users with their old lightning cables
3) probably most people should be doing this: people who use Qi chargers
4) first-time smartphone users
Apple's jerk move aside, I couldn't imagine how time consuming the process of making this video must be. Quality content deserve more subs!
The amount of time he said “I’m gonna reassemble this phone” is would give you alcohol poisoning in a drinking game.
So true!!!
Imagine making quality content

Yeah there's two billion adapters already, so... We are going to make a whole much more!
Positive step: finally moving to USB-C adapters.
WTF disclaimer: put said USB-C on the wrong end of the damn cable.
And for the waterproof arguement, I have a Samsung phone with a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack and its still water proof. I just got rid of my iPhone 2020 SE and good riddance. I have a Samsung S10 that I own.
@@ryanmalin no phone is water proof.
i can't believe people still buy apple

Imagine Ford and GM tried this many years ago, telling car owners that if they didn't use genuine Ford and GM parts, they'd void their warranty. The carmakers were successfully sued, can't do that any more. Apple hasn't learned that lesson.
did you not watch the senate hearing. they did do this. claiming the software that runs their cars is their property and you are just renting it and if you swap out the chip you are pirated and will be prosecuted for copyright infringement and creating a counterfeit product.
Tesla is already doing it xD
When you realize human organs are more compatible than the new iphones...
China has concentration camps with organ harvesting and Apple products factories. Same same

Apple: removing a whole power supply for "sustainability"
Also apple: making phones not repairable
SuStAiNaBiLiTy
its sustainability...not for the planet but apple stonks.
with all the bullshit gimmicks that apple is throwing around,im still buying iphone..damn. der sustainability motto for d iphone12 is so dumb. sustainability of der profits
Also the charging cable tho
I would argue that this anti-repair design is sustainable. This eliminates the redundancy of third-party repairer to gain more control on parts supply and disposal etc...
justifies it by saying everyone has tons of them at home.
includes charging cable that doesn't fit any of the common power adapters ever used so you have to buy theirs anyway...
How messed up would it have been if the devices stopped working when you put the original parts back?
By the way, Louis Rossmann definitely had some things to say about the un-repairable camera.
iphone 13, it’s coming
@@viggysmols6387 Agreed. Even when changing logic boards on Macs through GSX, you need to rescan all the serial numbers for parts changed, otherwise the mac complains that you've got mismatching serial numbers. It'll keep you from closing repair tickets, or running diagnostics. I would love it Apple actually allowed people to repair their own junk.

That charger thing alone is a reason to avoid the thing like the plague. Imagine buying an expensive new phone then finding out you can't even charge the damn thing unless you bought a separate adaptor for it.
You can get an iPhone iAccessory Pack, which includes: the charger head, a screen protector and an iPhone iCase, all for the small price of $39.99.
That way you get ALL you need only WHEN you need them, and save the environment in the process :)

But a lot of people have a charger that is a lightning connector. So just ditch the new cable and use an old charger with standard usb to lightning cable
Imagine actually wanting apple products.
I like Apple products. Their software is great and has far longer support than Android. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely have criticisms. And I’m not buying another iPhone for the very reason of repairability. Same reason I refuse to buy an electric car from Ford, GM, Nissan, or Tesla.
