It is SO nice to see these two wheel styles compared in a video which actually contrasts characteristics and gives a numerical difference. A video from a source that actually seems reputable, that is. If you ever get the chance to release a dyno chart comparison with all variables the same except for the turbine wheel, I would be ecstatic. Turbo Direct S.A is probably the best source for turbo information on UA-cam right now, but I would certainly welcome more in depth and technical information from a reliable source. Thanks!

Ta te 44 turbos were fun on mild cars.
That 9 blade wheel the same one pte had so many come apart in the pt51 and 52 turbos ?
If so they made good power for 1 or 2 passes . Im sure things have changed since back then

The TE51/52's used a version of the Garrett T350 wheel, at least the ones we were building back in the mid 90's. That wheel worked well, but was very failure prone if you did not get the tip height between the nozzle and inducer set up correctly...it was just a poor tune away from total failure of the blades due to heat. This wheel is a completely different design, material and manufacturer. We have had zero issues from this company with any of their products. Even with some not so perfect tunes.

Hi Reed, I was curious Have you ever considered or heard of anyone creating a more efficient compressor housing for the 84-85?

The 84/85 compressor cover as you probably well know is a special piece just for the 84/85. Over the years I have modified T04B, T04E, 86/87 Buick and even 1 T04S cover to fit the factory location install. Is all of that work worth it? It just depends on what you are trying to do with the car. The factory cover will honestly support most power goals with the right compressor wheel fitted. Our 58mm wheel is a great match for total flow and pressure ratio capability. If you are going for more than the 500 HP (flywheel) number, we have fitted the 62 mm and even 64mm compressor wheels. They will make the power, but the operational range and efficiency islands get pretty small...so it takes a bit of planning to get the most out of those installations. Please let me know if you have specific goals or even other questions, I will be happy to help!

I would love for some of our customers to respond to this directly, so I will reach out. I have quite a few of them out in the market, and Watts Performance Solutions is getting one next week, maybe I can get his customer or him to fill you in. I will offer you up a 100% money back guarantee if you want to try one yourself. I have zero concerns on it out performing the 49 on a properly set up car. -Reed
