    One thing that needs to be mention about the perfect guard(At least from my experience). You'll need to HOLD the guard button for it to translate from a guard to a perfect guard.

    small thing I found that I think is very impactful, you can immediately focus strike out of TCS. It ignores all recovery frames you dont need to roll first like you did at 5:51 letting you chain from one tcs directly into another with enough opening to almost always hit the second. Even if it doesnt hit a wound, but so long as it hits a monster, cancelling the recovery in this way is amazing.

    Great video, being able to aim and turn while charging your slashes is absolutely HUGE. Even without any of the other changes, that alone will make the Greatsword significantly easier to use. Also, I thought the clip at 6:24 was funny. You make a big leap off your seikret to jump on the chatacabra with a charged slash, and then... boom, doshaguma out of nowhere. XD Hoping to see a Heavy Bowgun video from you before the beta ends, it looks like both of the bowguns got some cool new tricks in Wilds!

    Thank you for talking about the focus mode toggle. with the regular hold to focus i felt like i needed 4 hands to use charge blade, now it only feels like i need 3 👍👍👍

    I’m loving the fact that the uppercut on GS is now a counter. It actually gives GS players a practical reason to use the GS uppercuts more in combat.

      Same for the perfect guards.
      Both of these moves were relatively useless. The uppercut was very, *very* situational, so much so that youd basically never use it. Guarding was slightly more useful, but less than "ideal", as your ideal play was to be using shoulder tackles.
      These changes give you a strong reason to use both of these moves finally, with major rewards for them when used right. I think they did a good job with this.

    Ahh man, will never forget the day i got my copy of monster hunter 4 ultimate for the 3ds and seeing that huge sword, i was like yea thats my main lol. Had such a hard time mastering it with its slow movement n everything, but man it feels so damn greag when u pull through the learning curve and master it and u taking monsters down left and right leaving ur friends who dont play monster hunter like bro how tf r u doing that???? Lmao one of the most awesome feelings ever man i love greatsword!!! God i could only imagine the damage numbers with a endgame build and hitting them with the new parry uppercut move and hitting them straight in the face...cant wait!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey guys! Not sure if it was mentioned in the comments but you can also use the Perforate attack in the air too, you have to have your weapon unsheathed already though. It looks like the clutch claw weapon attack from World. Looks dope when you can pull it off.

    Both the perfect guard and the "parry" mechanic seem a bit overkill. Deciding which one you want to go for is going to be interesting.

      Parry is the way to go every time but perfect guard is easier to time and it’s a good panic button

      "Parry" through shoulder damages hunter.
      On some more powerful attacks, one shoulder bash without Devine Blessing proc = half of your HP.
      "Parry" through uprswing takes time and preparation, which you will not always have.
      Thus, perfect guard left for emergency cases, where it is the safest and quickest option.
      Also, some skills like "Guard" and "Guard Up" can make blocking with GS uniquely defensive option, especially, when you facing new enemy with unknown moveset.

    By the way if you want output more damage, after peforming a lvl 3 TCS, if you go straight to focus strike, the focus strike will be lvl 3 as well, and move your character either left or right to get more hits on their body and a higher chance where previously hit wounds to open up.

    You can do a perferate after a charged slash to do an enhanced version of it that deals more damage.
    Even better that also includes a true charge slash just press focus and the perferate button while recovering from your charged slash

      Seems like a competition between bow and dual blades, where the second option is harder to manage. Both have insanely big damage output with relatively easy ways to ignore enemy attacks due to buffed up evedes and stamina recovery mechanics. Bow now can even go no-scope, damn.
      Then comes the GL, I think. And only due to changed guard mechanics, making it a lot less awkward and slow in after-frames. + attack scaling for shells will do wonders, that GL always needed.

    Focus mode aim adjustment and the offset attack (combined with the Dosoguma armor set buff after puilling it off) has made this the weapon of the beta for me. Feels almost too good how you can redirect 180 degrees in the middle of a true charge slash.

    I really love the changes for the GS. It was always a simple weapon but now it is not "braindead HULK SMASH" it is still Smash but you have a lot more agency with the super armor and Rising counter. And that ability to reposition yourself to actually get those big smashes more often and more consistently makes me think that GS might be king again.

    A lot of attacks lead straight to the second charge instead of the first one - like it was in MHW. Primarily Side Blow, I'm currently making a mod that will introduce these changes to MHW.
    That mod will allow me to play GS without relying on Slinger Burst all the time, or without it as a challenge.

    Is it a bug when charging a slash your camera goes up? I literally thought my controller was broken

      If you are in focus while charging, the left stick will also move your camera. So if you are holding forward in the monster's direction your camera will swing up, found myself doing this a few times before adjusting.

    veterans say, with every monster hunter game, the game becomes easier and easier while seasoned player believe in the simple "if you dont like it, dont use it"
    the focus mode is not active at all times, if you don't like the possibility to move while attacking, don't do it, and if you dont like to heal while moving, just dont.
    no monster is balanced around what you can do

      It's not - you can spam them like never before + focus mode make it so missing the target means blind hunter.
      When TCS was the rarity, you were rewarded for pulling it out in the midst of battle. Now its easy as any other thing, then why it has to keep it insane damage now?
      In the end, even without competitive multiplayer, options for player (in terms of weapons in this case) must be balanced, or some choices will be rationally unpopular, thus making them in the first place was a waste of time.

      Btw, new redacted animation makes accent on how stupid it is to "accelerate" the second strike by hitting the floor in the first one, losing all your preparation kinetic force, only to do a somewhat-spin in the air and then pushing really hard with all the weight to undig GS and literally throw it forward, like some judo move.
      I like the feeling of landed TCS in World, but it irritated me even then - it just unbelievable in rhe laws of commonsense. We can take SAED for exaple, where every move works for pure acceleration of the motion, so in the end the peak force of the swing acquired.
      Current more realistic TCS... man, sword literally stops for a moment, resting in the ground. World got more "unhinged", I can say, animation flow, where visually this motion works to the feeling of increased power. Even tho that movement is NOT how accelerating works. But now, with the sounds of Hope's set GS, the feeling of enhancing power almost lost, revealing blunt *bum* in the first hit and showing loss of the used energy for the first swing. And this is bothers me when I look at it.

    I wonder if Counters, Guards and Shouldertackles will all have their distinctive use in fluid gameplay, or if they will overlap and make each other redundant. Since shouldertackles can't be performed from a neutral state and guards can't be done whilst charging, they will probably have their place. Unsure about the counter thou - where there times where it felt like the natural thing to defend with, or did you "only" do it for the special flinches? Maybe different builds will have different ideals. I am worried we will have a lance situation where there are many defensive options, but some of them are (almost) never used.

      counter, atleast when leading to a topple is a bigger reward than the perfect guard, and seems easier to trigger since you can charge it and wait for monster to hit. but since it will build up resistance to the topple, is probably better for the beginning of a hunt, and going for perfect guard will be better after that point

      So, guards don't lead to any followup attacks, but give you perfect damage mitigation and build power crush.
      Shoulder barge only reduces the damage, but allows you to perform followup attacks.
      Offset Slash requires setup and predictive play, but gives you both perfect damage mitigation AND your best follow-up attack if you time it right.
      So they're all useful in different situations, and the only way to run a perfect hunt is to use all of them in concourse.

      @@MH3Raiser I just hope that "the best play" won't end up being, for example, only spamming Offset Slashes 24/7. Why guard if the only thing between you and a perfect, 100% dmg mitigation, high damage counter is a bit of practice? I hope that the additional setup time an offset takes means it will work sometimes, but other times a faster, perfect block will be the clearly better option.

      As a long long time ig main I really don’t understand what people are complaining about. It’s a new generation, so this is the new generation’s glaive. It’s not better or worse, it’s just different. I have had no trouble at all maintaining super high dps with it despite it being slightly slower

    Kinda feels like all weapons got cool new shit, and GS was nerved and does not hit as hard as world/rise anymore.
    When will GS get a cool new move LS got like 4 new moves GS only has the clash and perfekt guard, which many other weapons have.

    Sadly the TCS damage got nerfed in the beta. Now it is only 20% stronger than SCS 😢
    But it seems like SCS has around 200 MV while TCS has around 220.

      @ Motion value. The longer a move takes to execute in full, it must have high motion value to balance things out. This is the ground rule. Even with two shortcuts to TCS, it is still a move that requires charging in place, and landing two hits in a 3 second window without interruption and quite a delay after the move.
      It is much easier to land CS and SCS with less preparation and condition so TCS should hit harder while CS and SCS should hit less hard. Also, with lower motion value, TCS has less stopping power so it is not worth risking yourself after a successful offset attack (no topple) when it should be a huge risk/reward. It should have the same motion value as the follow-up Cross Slash, around 250.
      And in contrary to what you said, It isn’t easy to pull off TCS like in Iceborne or Sunbreak. Shortcuts to TCS are either by Perforate on a wound or a non-topple Offset attack that is also a risk to pull off in itself and even more risk if you go for TCS since the monster still can attack you. It is not “can spam them like never before” as you can spam them less in Wilds compared to World and Sunbreak.

      @MenrvaS, mentioned risk in the ways to easier TCS is also reward in itself - you negate monsters presence by either offset, power clash or wound breaker. Power clash gives free opening for TCS - no risk in execution after block, which in itself are made to prevent risking hp.
      Offset gives at least enough times for cross slash, so additional TSC is a metter of precision or greed.
      Wound breaker, as it seems, gives i-frames for the full duration of the animation itself (at least from the target of attack), which not always, but usually flinch or topple the beast - free opening for another TSC.
      And this is all above what those options are in themselves - methods for non-stop aggression. Now even semi-skilled hunter can deal damage without sheathing the weapon dealing with incoming attacks with more ways, than just still damaging shoulder tackle and sharpness draining block (now it barely tickles the meter).
      What about equally slow and opened animations in CB, SWAX, Gunlance or Hammer moveset? How much MV they have?
      Take for example Arch-Elemental Discharge, Mounted Elemental Discharge ot Wyvernblast (all three options have basic bad damage/time options and accelerating combo options) or new charged Hammer swing, look into them and then tell me, that GS is suddenly somehow nerfed in unbalanced way.

      @@MenrvaS ah, and yes: focus mode made that now its only the time, what makes TSC bigger in MV.
      Before, it was also a placement commitment, where your target can move either so hit goes into another hitzone or wiff fully.
      Now this risk is mitigated by ability to literally aim during the whole animation of both charging and attacking.
      So easier not only to begin the TCS and find openings for it, but to precise execution in itself.
      P.S. I forgot, that perfect tackle now saves the charge level... Additional QOL, so hunter waste less time charging own TCS.

      @ Focus mode doesn’t actually make TCS have bigger MV. It just makes you land more if the monster is still in your attack range and didn’t attack you out of it. But, it won’t always land at the desired hitzone because you have only a fraction of time to aim while the 2nd swing is coming down on a moving target, and I have Weapon Drawn Camera sensitivity to 8 on a controller just for that. Not to mention the sword often making contact with other parts if you are very close the monster.
      It is harder to start TCS because you have less self-efficient shortcuts. How is it easier when it has less shortcuts? Perfect Tackle only maintain charge level if you already charged it before so it isn’t exactly a shortcut to TCS. It works roughly the same as the usual tackle which is to create an opening. It just rewards you for more precise timing than solely rely on superarmor.
      The fact that Focus mode can help TCS to land more consistently also proves that it should be stronger. Don’t forget that CS and SCS can use Focus mode for a lot more consistency and they both are much easier and much faster to pull off than TCS in most situations while only being slightly weaker.
      Clash is mostly one time only because the second clash is very hard to come by. Perforate on a wound is a shortcut if you hit the critical weakpoint and cause a topple. Other than that, it is a risk since you lack the usual stopping power and the monster is still active. Offset attack is the most effective shortcut to TCS, but only if you didn’t topple the monster which is the same as using Perforate on non-critical weakpoints. Not to mention Offset attack as a risk itself.
      And you might be forgetting something. All weapons are different in playstyle and gimmicks. Zero Sum has less alpha damage but super consistent on a monster part, and Swax have much better mobility options than GS. Wyvern Fire is an explosive damage that can shoot anywhere and it just got buff to have much longer range, GL also have a lot less committal attacks with the best shield class. How about the fact that the shelling got buff to consume much less sharpness? The new hammer move is a big finisher that can be a part of a combo and already hit harder than TCS. Oh right, hammer is also the KO king with a lot of mobility.
      GS is the alpha damage of the game with strongest attacks and full of committal attacks. It barely has mobility unsheathed with middle class shield, but it can max out any topple gauge or destroy a part really quickly. The fact that TCS is almost as weak as CS is laughable enough but the fact that hammer’s best move can outdamage TCS in alpha damage is just sad.

    Gotta disagree on one thing you said. I think it's probably a bug and won't be like that in the final game, but the king of high numbers in the demo was definitely the insect glaive.
    The focus strike, when connected with a wound, will enable you to shoot your kinsect through the monster like a bullet, collecting all three extracts in the process.
    That attack has such a completely random range of damage it can do.
    I had hits where the ticks only dealt like 6 damage each.
    Then I had some where it was like 5 ticks of OVER 300 DAMAGE EACH. With the base game demo equipment. On an AWAKE monster. Meanwhile you're not even hitting for 250 on a wakeup hit with TCS.
    So yeah, something has to be buggy there for the kinsect to do those ridiculous numbers sometimes. It also dealt damage inbetween a lot.
    Most commonly it dealt:
    1: 6-8 per tick
    2: 60-80 per tick
    2: Around 140-160 per tick
    3: Slightly over 300 per tick
    when i played the demo.
    Also, this could mix. So you could have a single wound attack where you get all sorts of different damage numbers per tick. Which was confusing as well.

    One thing I always hated about the Monster Hunter games is the lack of mobility. I understand that some of these weapons might weight a couple hundred lbs lol but I'm glad that they added in more mobility with this game

    i see these crazy offset attacks...then i see lance....capcom fucked up. how can every weapon with a block have cooler and stronger counters than lance... im able to hit for like 18 dmg with a rising stab after a perfect guard...meanwhile GS pulls out a whole combo.... plus GS is even more mobile now...lance got the opposite treatment. thats actually fucked up. also maybe thats just me but it feels like lance doesnt deal blunt damage anymore. feels like i can break anything but the head, or maybe im just blind.

      Nah the move has been in the game since mh 1, it just got the offset property added onto it.

I am actually disappointed about the fact that they seem to be going to give us fixed movesets like world , i would gladely play the newly changed weapons , but the greatsword ! i think i am going to aviod it , such waste that they didn't change it .
