335is is the best of all worlds. N54 motor and FINALLY its reliable, double clutch transmission, hydraulic steering. Its the complete BMW without going to an M
@@latuba2478 nah it still has the same issues as any n54, but with the added expense and jerky dual clutch. Just admit it, everyone knows the 8hp is just as fast as the dual clutch, but way smoother, which is why it's being used on ALL newer bimmers, including the new M5 with the under 3 sec launch control;)
Victor Estrada it’s being used because it’s more reliable. Zf is good but not as good as a dual clutch if they were all these exotic/sport cars wouldn’t have a dual clutch
Having both, I love the smoothness and torque of my f30 n55. My fbo 6mt n54 e92 is so freaking fun to drive though! In fact, I just bought an f80 m3 manual and still love driving my e92 😁
Mic Raw thank you for the comment! that’s really interesting to hear. the E92 really does feel so cohesive in a way that unfortunately was almost lost in the F30 generation. i love my F30 so much, but the E92 provides a better driving experience imo
TheCarEnthusiast I agree! They both have their pros and cons. N54's are such a love/hate sometimes haha. Sometimes I want to sale or burn mine to the ground then I fix the issue and drive it and fall in love again lol 😂
The N54 was the first turbocharged gasoline engine made by BMW in a very long time. Typical BMW drivers were used to the old M54 and N51/52 engines which are known to be bulletproof. Turbos always require more maintenance and have more failure points compared to the N/A counterparts. Part of the N54's unreliability is that most buyers who came from the N/A inline6 were not ready for the added complications, likewise with many BMW service centers and specialized shops. By the time the N55 came out, great part of the clientele learnt how to "deal" with modern turbo engines, more information and data was available and a new "culture" was established. Every time a manufacturer introduces major changes in their lineups, there is always an increase in perceived unreliability in the first few years. Not necessarily because the product is bad, but because it requires adaptation. BMW's trusted oil supplier was Castrol. During the N54 years it switched to Pennzoil. Coincidence? Probably not. Matter of fact, whenever I used Castrol in my engine, it burnt oil, smelled bad and was throwing codes. Switched to Liquimoly and never had those issues again. Proof that even BMW had to rethink a lot of stuff. I've had my fair share of bad luck with my N54, likewise I've seen many N55 with severe problems and not that many km. Take the good with the bad, enjoy these cars while we still can, do your maintenance and buy extended warranty.
I have an e92 2013, w/n55 engine msport package . iDrive system, dual clutch automatic transmission. Xenon headlights, led backlighting. It looks beauty, sportily and like the years doesn’t past.
Looks wise, I agree with you. F30 M Sport is really a good looking 3 series. It's the F80 M3 that's off the steroids. The headlights look meaner than the E92, and the taillights look better too. The only drawback is, it only looks good with the M Sport bumper.
This video gave some great insight. It's still a very difficult choice. It's nice to know that you can purchase the E92 with the N55 as well. I'd argue that the F30 would've been perfect if it wasn't for the steering, it really makes you rethink the choice.
Got the E92 335i n55 with DCT myself, no way would I get one without idrive. It doesn't look too bad even now and it still does everything you would need it to even now. My maps are 2019, can stream spotify, radio all there as well.
@@logan6203 Nope, in Europe we got DCT as an option around the time the engines switched from N54 to N55. I take it you're in North America (?) in which case you can only get it with the 'IS' model you mentioned, which we never got, otherwise you have the 6 speed slush-box.
I’m stuck between wanting an e92 N55 with the 7 speed and the F30 N55 with the 8 speed. I love the design of the coupe, but I also really like how much more modern the F30 is exterior and interior wise. Not sure what I’ll end up opting for...
Tbh, the E92 N54 is better than the F30 N55 in literally every aspect, except for the reliability and technology. Considering that the F30 335 is nearly 2x the price of an E92 N54 335, the E92 is definitely a better buy.
BMW E60 I agree that the N54 is an amazing engine, but the bad high pressure fuel pump, occasional turbo failure, and host of other issues make it not as good as the N55. Even if the N54 is better in every other way, I think the N55 is the better engine overall. The 2011-2013 E92 with the N55 is the best buy in my opinion.
@@TheCarEnthusiast Agreed and not because I own a 2011 E93 with the N55 engine but because it's the fact. Many people who buy these cars are really and solely focused on roll racing/power and for that they tend to say that the N54 is better because of a few forged internals also is another reason they say such things. The truth is that not everyone is going for just power though and can care less about having the N54 because reliability is more of a factor than having power. Still the N54s are great and have excellent potential to mod up to and over 1,000 hp and the N55 is limited to about 600 or so at the crank. Personally I wouldn't trade my N55 for an N54 but that's just me, I'm ok with around 400hp/420tq in a daily driver and I don't care about having the acclaimed 700hp/modern 2JZ aspect of the N54 and that's not hate, it's just not my thing.
No, it isn't.. the E92 is outdated in every aspect. If you want something new, more comfortable, more sporty and luxurious and drive for long the better buy is the F30 any time. If you want a good and nice car, price shouldn't matter. Comparing two generations of cars, saying the old ass one which is the cheaper one because it is cheaper would be the better buy is a failure and wrong as hell.
@@TheCarEnthusiast N54 is tuners choice :) btw ALPINA still takes N55 and replaces single turbo with two turbos from N54 whey they make B3/B4 models (plus forged crankshaft, custom ECU flash, custom TCU flash etc. etc. etc.)
As long as you don't consider ride quality, equipment, luxury, efficiency, maintenace costs or reliability then yeah, everything about the e92 is better.
I've driven a f30 m3 and honestly....... I wasn't that impressed at all. I currently own 2 e93's.... an 08 335i and a 11 328i. My 335i is fbo and tuned and every time I drive that car any where it instantly puts a smile on my face ....... from the heavy hydraulic steering to the slightest of turbo lag you experience right before that punch of torque kicks in.... they are truly a treat. Before I purchased my n54 ...... I looked at and drove both n54 and n55 cars.....and to be honest didn't know much about the platform......but one thing that a bmw guy had told me ....that always stuck with me...... was " you know what's more tunable than one turbo....... two turbos" and that right there sold me on a n54. Maybe in my case I love my car so much more because I took the time to build it the way I liked. And yes as with any car they have thier flaws from injectors to water pumps and all the coils and plugs that will misfire in between it comes with the territory. My car is still on its stock 08 turbos...and everyone once in awhile I get the occasional wastegate rattle.... but I will always tell anyone looking into bmws..... that hands down I love a good old n54 💯🎯
Take N55 > N54 IMO. Owned both with tunes and bolt ons for several years. N54 may have better potential performance but the reliability is horrible! Pick the N54 if you want to keep emptying your pockets. lol. Thank god for warranty. Take a quick spin in my M235i (JB tune and Full bolt-on) might change your mind. Nice seeing a local ATX. :)
I agree. I honestly wish the N54 was more reliable than it is, because it's certainly more of an enthusiast's engine. And the E90 is the better chassis. I miss the 2011 E90 328i I used to have, especially with lowered suspension. But yes, the F30 N55 is the better daily.
Kies Motorsports thank you for watching! i’ve been keeping up with all of your videos for months and have been wanting to modify my 335i in many of the ways you have. my red cross brace was inspired by your channel.
One of the advantages that the E90 series has that the F doesn't offer besides the 2 doors is the E93. With an E93 you practically have a Coupe with the top up that looks every bit as good as the E92 and one of thee most sexiest convertibles ever that is a mechanical masterpiece to watch as it transforms from 2 door coupe to chick magnet sex machine!! No F30 can hold a candle to the E93!! E90 Gang-Gang representing❤❤
Wow perfect timing, I am thinking about buying a 2011 E90 and was a bit torn on whether to instead go with the F30. Even though the looks of the F30 are definitely more current, they still cost quite a bit more so this video solidifies the 2011 for me. Thanks!
I'm really glad I could be of help; that's the whole reason I started this channel and it's very refreshing hearing from someone that these videos have been helpful. Let me know when you buy the car and what you think of it! I used to have a 2011 E90 328i and I loved the responsiveness of the chassis, I just wished I had a bit more power and a manual transmission, so I upgraded to the F30 because I could more easily get one still under warranty. Looking back, I wish I had the E90 chassis still.
TheCarEnthusiast Yep bought it today! Love it already! I had a 2007 e92 right when they came out, they were super hard to find in manual back then and I tracked one down in San Jose CA with 3600 miles on it. Sold it 2 years later but always felt it was the best all around vehicle I ever had. Excited to be back behind the wheel!
The e92 is way nicer looking in my opinion. The f30 reminds me of the brand new BMWs because they all look the same now. The e92 has a more desired shape that makes it a unique looking car compared to the newer styles.
Solution - Get an E92 or E93 and get it with the high def Idrive (2009 or 2010) then convert that Idrive to wireless CarPlay and bam! You get the best of both worlds. I own an E93 with this setup and it's perfect. The only option I lack is air conditioned seats in a 10 year old car. N54 all day.
I have an 2007 e93 with 90k which I bought for £7k, and I've had no problems or issues at all. As for reliability in the UK we don't have the fuel pump problems but as for the turbos I'd rather have an e93 and spend £4.5k on getting hybrids fitted with full bolt ons and get reliable car with 500whp + than but a standard f80 which looks uglier and is far more expensive 👍
404TRUCKER I love the N52 having owned an E90 328i myself, but I’d argue that way more power and torque is a pretty good justification for added complications and/or maintenance. I just bought an E90 335i xDrive yesterday morning and it is absolutely worth the difference in cost of ownership. Then again, I have the N55 engine so it should cost a bit less than the N54.
@@TheCarEnthusiast I don't know if I can justify it. N54 guys have just a little more problems. For someone who does my own maintenance, although i enjoy it. Those turbos adds just that much more crap to deal with. Omg, those N20 owners i feel so sorry for them with that timing chain craping out at 40k,50k miles. some guys replacing whole engines so early. guess what... due to turbos pushing engine too hard.
@@404TRUCKERTV yeah, the N20 seems to be a nightmare. And I understand avoiding the N54, but I haven’t had any issues with my N55s and I’ve owned 2 of them.
Jordan Askins I will certainly try! Also, yes. There were a few audio complications with this video and I’m working on making it much better. Thank you!
I've owned an e92 for 2 years, just changed to F31 and it's half the car. Know comparing touring with a coupe is unfair, but there's something missing.
I was looking to get F30 335i/340i or same engine but with F10. But both of these seem to have huge problem with the interior... Rly noisy plastics etc. How is it in E90?
If you're an enthusiat you should get the E92. If you just want to have a nice car to keep, get the F30 more reliable and less issue. That said most enthusiats will likely have the E92 engine issues sorted out or upgrade the turbo.
I think u should of reviewed both sedans being that they only have a 4 series coupe or 2 series . Next your out the car audio was a bit low. How ever I still liked the video and drone shot. Should have went in to price point and exapdablity as a tuning platform.
Jermaine Lee I appreciate the feedback. I’m working on better audio and I would absolutely have reviewed the E90 sedan, but I only had access to the E92. I didn’t want to go into the exact prices because they’re constantly changing, but I acknowledged that the F30 costs more. I also mentioned near the beginning that the N54 is desirable for people that want to modify their car.
Nice comparison! I personally own a 2011 335i Msport E93! The same color as the one you were driving! It does sit low with the Msport package! The N55 sounds better in my opinion!, and the steering is heavy but responsive! Where I would differ with you is I think the E93 is sexier than both the E92 and the F30. And since I drive 18 wheelers for a living, I'm not interested in grabbing gears when I get in my car! Just my opinion! Lol. Solid video though!
with all respect, I have to say you are wrong, and not follow your advice on not buying the iDrive, the iDrive system could be easily updated with a newer one, a NBT or an NBT evo, which btw would be even newer than the F30 sometimes, depends on model year
Saif M. that’s true, i hadn’t considered it. my preference is for the plain dashboard because i prefer a more basic interior, but someone who wants the newest features would definitely benefit from an NBT
F30 is definitely "sexier" than an E90, but not the E92. Matter of fact, the looks of the F30 without the M-Sport package doesn't even compare to an E92 w/o the M-SPORT package. iDrive of the E9X might be outdated, but far from complicated to use.
Quirin Peterson i don’t know that you can say that’s a fact, but i see your perspective. also i should clarify, iDrive was complicated until it was updated in 2011 for the E92, but before it just didn’t seem to make a lot of sense imo
I sold my 2014 335i xdrive and bought a 2011 e92 335 best decision ever , theres no comparison the f30 feels like a boat the steering sucks, the e92 feels way more sporty night and day difference
The new g20 is the best actually now. Brings back the drive feel of the e90 but in a more modern package. Sorry to say, but the f30 to me is a garbage generation. I so wanted to like the slightly used 2017 340i m but not even two test drives sold me on it. It rode and braked like a boat. I recently test drove a 2020 g20 335i and it was a beautiful drive. Loved it so much, however I'll wait a couple years to get a pre-owned 2020 m340i 😍😍
mike786551 that’s really good to know! I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the G20. As far as I’m concerned, any steering system is better than the steering in the F30. I bet BMW improves on that. I really do wish my F30 handled as well as the E90 I had before it. And I hope you can snag one of those M340i cars, I might be right there with you!
@@TheCarEnthusiast Nice feedback :) I currently have a 2017 Audi S3 and love it so much, everything from the way it handles and accelerates and more. Having had this car for about 8 months has sure given me a really bitter taste for other cars. Apart from the 2 test drives of the f30 I mentioned above, I've test driven the highly acclaimed Genesis g70 3.3t and even the lovely Audi s5 sportback cause I was seriously having the itch to trade and get something else lol. All 3 cars failed to wow me enough to ditch my S3, it's that good of a car. The only car that wowed me to seriously consider replacing my S3 was the 2020 g30 335i. It's that's good of a car (imagine the m340!?), so yea I really can't wait to get a nicely depreciated m340i haha. BTW, loved your video and presentation! Keep it up man.
Went from a 2008 135i n54 to a 2014 435i gran coupe (needed more space). Just tested a g20 330i msport.. not a big improvement in term of steering feel, still numb. Handling is a little better too and more responsive but maybe becayse the car is lighter with the smaller engine
I have an f30 328i and I thought the g20 steering felt completely numb. Probably just has to do with what you’re used to because people complain about f30 steering but I have no issue with how it feels
Honestly thanks for the review, own a 2012 f30 328i stage two so about the figures of a 335i (close enough lol). My mind has always loved loved the e90 but a Question would you trade your f30 for a e90?
That was a good idea. When I made this video, I didn’t realize BMW totally updated the system in around 2010, and I love the updated system. I just bought a 2011 335i E90 and it has the updated system and I love it.
@@TheCarEnthusiast I had the 4 series 430d for a courtesy car for a month and all I can say is that car is a beast, I've always disliked the diesel vehicles but this one was so quiet and very good with fuel.
e92 feel much heavier. The steering feels heavier and glued to the road. You’re going to replace that leaking head gasket every few years. I had to do mine twice in three years. the f30 is much lighter, it is smoother, softer and a little more quiet. It is slightly better on gas.
Great advice! I just picked up a 2011 E90 335i, which is the only year the E90 came with the N55 and mine was produced after March 2011, which means the initial weaknesses the N55 had were already dealt with. I highly recommend my car to anyone else who really wants to keep that hydraulic steering feel and more connected-to-the-road experience.
I’ve looked at both vehicles. Any and all BMW fan is gonna go with the E92. Unfortunately wait till you see how horrible the interior and exterior will be. BMW people DO NOT take care of their cars. They do not keep them clean. They have almost all been in some type of accident and the seams won’t be straight. Etc etc.
I've seen so many N55 with knocking rod bearings that it makes me question if it is that much more reliable after all. The N54 unreliability comes from what's around the engine (injectors, fuel pump, turbo wastegates), not the engine itself, which has stronger internals than the N55,
Wait why didn’t you do a video on what’s better the n55 e90 or f30 Edit: I saw the end of the video nvm I would say the same thing the e90 n55 is better
The biggest different is N54 is coupe and N55 is a saloon. The coupe has the size and look for a sport car but N55 seem a bit big for a sport car. It is for someone wanted a family saloon and a sport car at the same time. Another big different is N54 has 4 seats but N55 is a 5 seater.
Alex Walsh no disputing that, the N54 is definitely much better for tuning. I would just prefer the N55 for its reliability, since I’m not one to want a high HP car
Kenny Looi technically you are correct. There is one component (could be the water pump??) in the first year of the N55 that was modified to a simpler part because it was known to fail, so since the N55 was first introduced in 2011 (the only year it was in an E90) the F30 N55 is more reliable. However, the N55 in the 2012 and 2013 E92 models should have the more reliable part
Actually after more searching, I may end up buying an F31 328i Wagon and do a build on that. However, ECS Tuning does a great video on common issues with the N55 and they cover the main differences for the initial year of the engine, which is the engine in the 2011 E90 335i. It’s my understanding that the 2012 and 2013 E92 335i cars had the more reliable version.
There really isn't a difference between the engines in the 2 different cars. They make the same power in both vehicles according to BMW. However, for the first few months of the N55 being produced, it utilized a more complicated water pump design that was prone to fail and was later switched for a less complicated water pump. But this change occurred while the E90 sedan was being produced.
Anyone know if there’s a way to fix the steering wheel on the new f30? Is it possible to flash the car or have it coded in a way that the steering is always in sport plus mode but the rest of the car isn’t?
First, I applaud you for the skills required for that to happen. Second, I definitely think the F30 is worth trying. I’ve owned an E90 328i and an F30 335i and loved both. Actually so much that I’m about to buy an E90 335i M-Sport!
@@TheCarEnthusiast Im also planning to grab one of these ultimate driving machine but i couldn’t make my mind on which one. E90 or F30, its make me confuse. Can you give me some advice on it? In terms of interior build quality which one is better? I knew the F30 looks more modern but i heard that the E90 has the better quality. And about the driving what do you think? Which one is more focus on drivers? Which one is better to drive? Thanks ya Christian!
@@Audreyplays20 hey there! It truly depends on perspective. The E90 chassis does feel more connected to the road and more driver-focused, especially since it has amazing hydraulic steering whereas the F30 has electronically assisted steering that feels artificial. However, I honestly think the F30 interior is better in both quality and design. I’ve owned 2 E90s and 1 F30. I appreciate both generations equally, it really just depends what takes top priority. I would say E90 interior is 7/10 and driver-focus is 8/10, whereas F30 interior is 8/10 and driver-focus is 7/10. So they’re both incredible at both. It comes down to appearance and comfort for me. The F30 wins in both of those categories in my opinion.
Lets be honest though. The e9x interior has aged much better than the f30 if comparing it to 2021 cars and the g20. Especially if you have the i drive screen in an e9x its aged wonderfully. I had a 2013 f30 and actually sold it and bought a 2008 e90 and the e90 just feels like it was built so much better, everything feels better quality.

This is great commentary. I owned an E90 328i, then an F30 335i, and now I’m back to an E90 335i xDrive. I personally prefer the interior of the F30 by every measure. Then again, I’m 6’6” and I fit much better in the F30. I love both generations equally though.
@@TheCarEnthusiast Yeah definitely! I love them both but the steering of an e90 is just amazing man. @@tommyalonso9453 yes I did! I needed an AWD car because I moved to a snowy climate. I actually owned a WRX in between them. And you’re so right, the steering in the E90 is night and day from the F30. I always thought that was the F30’s worst trait.
@@TheCarEnthusiast Ahh, you should have stayed in the heat bro! Im near Chicago and am trying to get outta here asap for warmer weather lol. Looks wise, I agree with you. F30 M Sport is really a good looking 3 series. It's the F80 M3 that's off the steroids. The headlights look meaner than the E92, and the taillights look better too. The only drawback is, it only looks good with the M Sport bumper.
Rollan yeah, i think you’re right. i really don’t like the non M-Sport F30s
Weird , coz the only thing I dislike about the f80 is the lights , look to busy for me , e92 less is more , absolutely gorgeous to me .
This video gave some great insight. It's still a very difficult choice. It's nice to know that you can purchase the E92 with the N55 as well. I'd argue that the F30 would've been perfect if it wasn't for the steering, it really makes you rethink the choice.
I couldn’t agree more. If the F30 had hydraulic steering, I would choose it every single time.
Hey! I know you from discord lol
@@mauriciosanchez144 Oh you're in E9X Discrod? Cool!
Finally a good review of the 335i e92 and the f30, thank you!
Got the E92 335i n55 with DCT myself, no way would I get one without idrive. It doesn't look too bad even now and it still does everything you would need it to even now. My maps are 2019, can stream spotify, radio all there as well.
AM4N18 how did you update your maps? And how do you stream? I have a 2012 e92 n55
How do you have a e92 with the n55 and DCT? The only e92 335i with a DCT is the 335is and that still has the N54.
@@logan6203 Nope, in Europe we got DCT as an option around the time the engines switched from N54 to N55. I take it you're in North America (?) in which case you can only get it with the 'IS' model you mentioned, which we never got, otherwise you have the 6 speed slush-box.
@@Ghost.CBR600 Hi, sorry I never got a notification, only just seen this! Hope you managed to sort out your maps..?
The older iDrive System is easily updatable through an android radio. Always go with a 3 Series with the iDrive so you dont have to swap the dash.
Marvin Stute that’s a good point!
I’m stuck between wanting an e92 N55 with the 7 speed and the F30 N55 with the 8 speed. I love the design of the coupe, but I also really like how much more modern the F30 is exterior and interior wise. Not sure what I’ll end up opting for...
what did you end up getting?😱
@@TheCarEnthusiast N54 is tuners choice :) btw ALPINA still takes N55 and replaces single turbo with two turbos from N54 whey they make B3/B4 models (plus forged crankshaft, custom ECU flash, custom TCU flash etc. etc. etc.)
Learning so much about BMW just from watching these videos
Proud e92 owner with n55 no complaints here! Like you said best of both.
E92 all day I was so disappointed when I first saw the f30 everything about the e92 is better
Except the gearbox
F30 looks better
As long as you don't consider ride quality, equipment, luxury, efficiency, maintenace costs or reliability then yeah, everything about the e92 is better.
@@BigUriel hahaha
F30 sexy ??? Only the same way as a bag lady , e92 is a timeless beauty in comparison.
Hahaha that's certainly one way to look at it
E92 looks old and not agressive at all. Imo the ugliest 3 series ever made.
@@julianhoogendam9816 total rubbish , the looks are great and those headlights couldn't look any more aggressive , but each to there own.
I like both🤙😂 they're both badass
I agree, the e92 M n54 is one of the most stylish BMW’s made. Future classic.
I have a 335i 2011 e92 but with the N55 engine, and the car is beautiful and amazing
Couldn't agree more!
DScroggins Production Amen to that. I love the M235i.
Wow!
I really liked that comparison.
You truly seam to be an enthusiast!
nah
Personally I prefer the F30 with N55 for a daily setup but you can’t beat the E90’s with the N54.. unrivaled
I agree. I honestly wish the N54 was more reliable than it is, because it's certainly more of an enthusiast's engine. And the E90 is the better chassis. I miss the 2011 E90 328i I used to have, especially with lowered suspension. But yes, the F30 N55 is the better daily.
Very good comparison. I own a BMW 335i E93 N54, it's a good engine and it has more power potential then N55.
F P K Thank you! And I agree, the N54 is still an amazing engine and definitely has more potential. You have a great car, I love the convertible.

E90 Gang-Gang representing❤❤
soldierviejo I appreciate this. Solid commentary.
N54 GaNG! 6 speed manual a MUST!!
Excited to be back behind the wheel!
im looking to upgrade my current 2011 328i to a 335i but im stuck between the new gen and the old gen
Xc1udez if you’re good with being out of warranty, go with the E90. it just feels that much more like a driver’s car
The e92 is way nicer looking in my opinion. The f30 reminds me of the brand new BMWs because they all look the same now. The e92 has a more desired shape that makes it a unique looking car compared to the newer styles.
Until you can tune the N55 or single turbo it to get 700hp like with the N54, I'll go for the older 335 E9X
How many people actually upgrade their turbo and pretty much everything for 700hp 😐 doesnt matter

That’s definitely another great option!
How do you setup the CarPlay, is it just through USB
@@forgedrods15 No! I bought a box from China and had my installer install it. It took him about an hour
virtually the same.....smh ,diffrent engine ,chassis lol
I have an 2007 e93 with 90k which I bought for £7k, and I've had no problems or issues at all. As for reliability in the UK we don't have the fuel pump problems but as for the turbos I'd rather have an e93 and spend £4.5k on getting hybrids fitted with full bolt ons and get reliable car with 500whp + than but a standard f80 which looks uglier and is far more expensive 👍
Only reason n54 is more popular with poeple is because not everyone can afford to buy the new f30 n55 yet, big price difference still to this day...
I'm good with my n52 naturally aspirated. Those turbochargers just adds more maintenance for no reason.
Also, I’m the same way. I do my own maintenance when I can. So far, the N55 has been good.
@@TheCarEnthusiast more maintenance? Yes. But not for no reason, spending 1500$ in mods that n54 will get you 450-500hp
I would still get idrive, you can upgrade it with a kit to support car play so
Please keep doing reviews comparing cars that are similar to each other. Also a clip on mic would be good. Subscribed
I would tend to agree with that!
Vision33r I have the e92 n55😁. Best of both worlds
Just get two e60 M5's and smile all day till it goes bang and switch over to the other while they can still be got cheap.
Eoin that is certainly an idea
Later year E92's with N55. I-Drive can be updated with software, so why not get the nav? The F30 is boring.
CaliBimmerLife I agree with everything you just said lol
Are you on Lime Creek in this video?? Shoutout to you for knowing about that gem.
Matt_Pohl haha yeah! thanks my man
F30 is definitely "sexier" than an E90, but not the E92.
The n55 sounds better than the 54? That is a hot take my friend
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just my take on it
He's spot on.
It's that's good of a car (imagine the m340!?), so yea I really can't wait to get a nicely depreciated m340i haha.

patrick7800 Hmm interesting take indeed. I felt a big difference though
I have an f30 328i and I thought the g20 steering felt completely numb. Probably just has to do with what you’re used to because people complain about f30 steering but I have no issue with how it feels
N55 is not a better engine when the crank explodes
Honestly thanks for the review, own a 2012 f30 328i stage two so about the figures of a 335i (close enough lol). My mind has always loved loved the e90 but a Question would you trade your f30 for a e90?
Funny enough, I did go back and buy an E90 after I owned my F30. Loved both for different reasons
I bought my e92 (face-lift 325) with infotainment so it adds to the resale value.
That was a good idea. When I made this video, I didn’t realize BMW totally updated the system in around 2010, and I love the updated system. I just bought a 2011 335i E90 and it has the updated system and I love it.

Great advice! I just picked up a 2011 E90 335i, which is the only year the E90 came with the N55 and mine was produced after March 2011, which means the initial weaknesses the N55 had were already dealt with. People say n55 is more reliable but never explain why , just because it makes less power doesn’t mean it’s more reliable 😂
I've seen so many N55 with knocking rod bearings that it makes me question if it is that much more reliable after all. The N54 unreliability comes from what's around the engine (injectors, fuel pump, turbo wastegates), not the engine itself, which has stronger internals than the N55,
I have an E92 N55 😂
N54 for power for looks go for n55
Wait why didn’t you do a video on what’s better the n55 e90 or f30
Edit: I saw the end of the video nvm I would say the same thing the e90 n55 is better
I definitely would have preferred that, I just didn't have access to a manual E90.
@@TheCarEnthusiast yeah maybe for just downpipes because early n55s are just junk 2013 and up they made it stronger
The N54 is highly tunable and good for a budget 700bhp build
Alex Walsh no disputing that, the N54 is definitely much better for tuning. I would just prefer the N55 for its reliability, since I’m not one to want a high HP car
E90 n55 vs f30 n55, I heard the n55 in f30 is more reliable , thoughts?
Kenny Looi technically you are correct. There is one component (could be the water pump??) in the first year of the N55 that was modified to a simpler part because it was known to fail, so since the N55 was first introduced in 2011 (the only year it was in an E90) the F30 N55 is more reliable. However, the N55 in the 2012 and 2013 E92 models should have the more reliable part
But stay tuned because I’m buying a 2011 E90 335i soon and I’ll know more. I’ll do a whole build series as well.
I have a e92 335i n55 engine
N54 bulletproof engine
😎
What are the differences in the e92 n55 vs f30 n55?
There really isn't a difference between the engines in the 2 different cars. They make the same power in both vehicles according to BMW. However, for the first few months of the N55 being produced, it utilized a more complicated water pump design that was prone to fail and was later switched for a less complicated water pump. But this change occurred while the E90 sedan was being produced.
Anyone know if there’s a way to fix the steering wheel on the new f30? Is it possible to flash the car or have it coded in a way that the steering is always in sport plus mode but the rest of the car isn’t?
Hmmm no idea but that would be sick
Where is this?

First, I applaud you for the skills required for that to happen. Second, I definitely think the F30 is worth trying. I’ve owned an E90 328i and an F30 335i and loved both. Actually so much that I’m about to buy an E90 335i M-Sport!

Granted I did have a 328i f30 and now have a 328i e90. I plan on upgrading to a 335 in the next year or so and will decide if i switch back to f30 or stay with a 2011 e92
I got lucky and found a great deal on my current e90 328xi and have been saving tons of money so like I said I plan to upgrade to a 2011 335i or maybe an f30 335i in about a year. So you actually got rid of the f30 in the video for a e90 ?
@@tommyalonso9453 yes I did! I needed an AWD car because I moved to a snowy climate. I actually owned a WRX in between them. And you’re so right, the steering in the E90 is night and day from the F30. I always thought that was the F30’s worst trait.
@@TheCarEnthusiast Ahh, you should have stayed in the heat bro! Im near Chicago and am trying to get outta here asap for warmer weather lol. It really is the worst trait, I heard the g20 feels more like the e90 but sadly it will never feel the same with electric steering. You said the 2011 335 has the newer engine though, correct?
I thought all M sport 335i f30 had PPK?
No, that’s called the M Performance Package. M Sport is just an appearance package mostly
@@TheCarEnthusiast Thanks for the info 👍🏽
i find it weird that bmw changed to the f30 in 2012 and went back to make another e92/e93 in 2013 like wtf bmw
The E92 was continuous until 2013. BMW just kept making it because the 4 series, which replaced the E92, didn’t come out until 2014.
E9x for me
2010 335i isnt a n54...
Dylan Teasang the 2011 model was the first coupe to have the n55, so this coupe has the n54. the sedan received the n55 earlier.
@@TheCarEnthusiast "The N54 began production in 2006 and first appeared in the 2007 BMW 335i; in 2008, the N54 was introduced along with the 135i and 535i. BMW's N55 engine began production in 2009 and started replacing the N54 in 2010."
Dylan Teasang yes, started replacing the N54 in 2010 but not for the 3-series. that engine was also used in the 5 series and 1 series
E90 N55 👌🏻
I just bought an N55 E90 a couple months ago! If you're interested in content about it, I've been doing a build series on my channel.
Virtually the same except not at all 😂
Dude the n55 only sounded better cause the new gen has a nicer exhaust LOL you can’t compare the sound of the n54 to that when it’s in another model. Compare the n54 to an n55 from a 2011 then let’s see who has better engine sound😎😜
This is a very fair point. I just didn’t have access to a 2011 335i with the N55. Although I do have another video on my channel comparing a 2011 N55 against Borla S-type mufflers, so you can hear it there
2013 E92 N55 😈
M340i F30 all day! B58 is superior
Can’t argue with that…
What exhausts on each?
Stock on both
E92 n54 100%
