OCD and Hyper-Inflated Responsibility

  • Not only do OCD sufferers struggle with overestimating the threats their thoughts bring, they often have a massive internal sense of responsibility to do something about these thoughts. They feel deeply responsible for these troubling thoughts and emotions that come their way. Not only do they attach a heavy meaning, they feel deeply responsible to do something about them. This fuels the OCD battle.

    I grew up going to church but it was to keep up appearances for my parents. Why we went there was never explained or explored. No relationship with Jesus was ever established. It’s been so hard to establish my relationship with Jesus and god as an adult. Thank you Mark for doing these OCD videos. You have no idea how much everything you present is what I deal with today. Years of therapy have never been able to explain this much.

    Wow...this is really helping me at the moment. I battle anxiety and OCD as well. I am currently obsessing over whether or not I am saved. I recently heard many people saying “once saved always saved” is a lie “from the pit”. I have known the Lord since 2007...and have said (and believed) the Sinners prayer many times. I also have changed and feel the Lord hears and answers my prayers. I battle with perfectionism as well, and the last thing I needed to hear was that I’m partially responsible for my salvation. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I feel sorry for my husband as I question and doubt! I just can’t understand how people interpret scripture so differently...and so for the first time in years I am so confused. Sorry to the bother you! If you and your wife could maybe say a prayer for me (and anyone else who is battling this), I would truly appreciate it.- Michelle

    I think have an inflated sense of responsibility for others. I once saw a dispute in public between a couple. The guy wasn't very nice lets just say. Others were around, and confronted the guy. I sat there paralysed. I cannot tell you the how much I ruminated afterwards! I felt extremely bad for not doing anything, I thought I'm just as bad and cowardly as people I see in scenarios on youtube doing nothing. I replayed a better scenario in my head where I would have gone up to the lady to ask if she was okay. That perfect scenario played in my head over and over again for DAYS, up to TWO WEEKS. I tried to get rid of this 'not quite right' feeling and I would have given anything to go back to the situation. The repetitive REPLAYING in my head nearly drove me crazy. This not quite right feeling also happened when I got my braces off early, I regretted it so much and that persistant feeling of regret and 'not quite right or missing out on perfection or what could have been' drove me to suicidal ideation. I haven't been diagnosed but I'm working on getting better, and I feel like I've identified my struggle with these videos.

    These deep entrenched thoughts and fears will actually change the chemistry of your brain after a while. Living in a constant anxiety state will eventually deplete your serotonin to the point that physical symptoms appear and persist. Thoughts are so very powerful.

    I understand that I am to not focus on the ROCD and such, but at the same time, why is it that I can't help the thought of becoming spiritually lax with everything? I look at the puritans or people of remarkable faith and I know they weren't perfect by any means yet they were solid on holiness.

    • @MrRogal00
      @MrRogal00 2 роки тому

      ROCD is always works based in everything it says. When you strive for holiness, it will drive you to work hard, and be harsh with yourself if you fail. And you will fail, because it works under the Law, and you know how ruthless that is.
      However, holiness can be only achieved, if you are deeply rooted in God's love, and your holiness grows out of that. Remember, that Jesus is the root, we are the branches. We can only produce good fruit if it comes out of love, otherwise: dead works. That's the difference.
      You can live as holy as humanly possible but if you don't have love, it doesn't help you. Hope this helps. :) Good luck on your journey!
