Can you imagine a deep purple record with Joe!
Joe is a decent guy who wouldnt rip the pee out of anyone. He did a great job and im glad he did this for purple. Thanks JOE ...
Note that Satriani was very humble about playing with them, and was well aware about the legacy of Ritchie, so job well done :)
WELL SAID !!!!!
He does a lovely job!
What do you expect of him? He has a musical education, and years of teaching experience under his belt. He can do it all.
Richie is an amazing guitarist ,and will go down in history as one of the greatest guitarists in the world.I'm sure Richie would agree 100%,but he is also very unpredictable. But thats what makes Richie Blackmore Richie Blackmore.
Jon Lord & Joe Satriani for the win!
R.I.P John Lord
Jon
We got more smiles out of Sach during this song than you got from Richie in a decade, and Sach didn't smile a lot.
Deep Purple in all of it's manifestations has been a joy on this planet. I grew up with them. The first album I ever bought was the Two album set Released in way back in the late sixty's.
My Son was born 5 days earlier before the date of this show on 6/11/94. His 23rd Birthday is Sunday, June 11th I'm 46 now and. I was 23 when Joe Satriani toured w/Deep Purple. I remember back in1984 when the Perfect Strangers album came out.
Amazing solo🫶🏼
Nicely done by Satriani, every player has their own unique style
Beautiful..I loved it.Satriani is a legend that fit with legends..
Потрясающе !!! Свой стиль !!!!! Не испортил Пурпурных точно !!!! Ричи стоит в сторонке и слегка волнуется ....... ;-) Отлично, Джо !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a gig for Satriani to incorporate all those killer techniques, concepts and licks and use them in a vocal band context..
I see him in Athens,Amazing guitar man!Greetings from Greece
joe satriani proved he could handle the job of lead guitarist left by ritchie blackmore. great video
Funny! I remember when this happened about Ritchie leaving the band I told my friend But who can take Ritchie's place he is a guitar god and at that moment he show'd me the SURFING WITH THE ALIEN cd and my reply was.....oh :)
COOL FIND, thanks for sharing. ,I deeply envy any whom caught this show or tour anywhere. 🤘 dyaaaamn!y
I saw them in 1994 as well during the summer tour. What a fantastic band and performance. There was truly life after Blackmore, which I doubted back in those days before seeing this. Satch was on fire along with the band through the night. I really loved that they dropped 'A Twist In The Tale' and replaced it with 'Ramshacle Man', which they performed brilliantly. The improvisation and solo in 'Knocking At Your Back Door' was one of the highlights I'd say.
Joe filled this gap in deep purple perfectly. Pure gold. A really great artist just like Blackmore before. It is as if someone had captured the talent of the young Blackmore and transported it into the future with modern playing technique and sound. Because with the same awesomeness.
Satriani is a great, but very underrated guitarist!
Holy smokes. This song locks into one thunderous groove early on and maintains it with shocking ease. The extended solo midway through is indulgent as hell, but the transition back into the "Knockin'" riff is seamless. I can't freakin' believe the first half of this though. Just unreal.
Satriano ha dato magia ai Deep purple,Satriani uno dei più magici chitarristi viventi del mondo rock, non si può paragonare a nessuno solo al grande frank zappa
With all due respect to Satriani, and with absolutely no intention to offend, as far as Deep purple solos go , there is only one person who can get it right, Mr Blackmore!, not even Tomy Bolin --RIP
Great perfomance¡¡ Joe Satriani is the Master¡¡
First off let me say I’m a huge Blackmore fan. He is by far, my all time favorite guitarist. That said, the only guitarist to properly fill Blacmores shoes is Satchmo himself, Joe Satriani. His guitar work and guitar style is perfect for this band. I only wished he stuck around for all these years!!
agree. And I also wonder know what could happen with Gary Moore. I was there and I remember I was formerly a bit disappoinetd for a deep purple concert withouth blackmore.. yeah.. the first 2 minutes.. he has been also very respectful for the sound and structures of blackmore mantaining very much richie lilke lines but with his left hand :) uuhh actually blackmore and satriani are in my top 2 ;)
Me too he was a perfect fit, and Purple would have gone on to new heights. They would have not be putting chicken foot style lps out. Would have palatable rock. Not infusion of jazz country rock, etc. Morse is a top 10 guitarist in the world, but this guy would have made Purple a household name again.
@@MrMetalzeb I'm somewhat annoyed that I hadn't heard this in the almost 30 years (!!)--but I'm grateful that I finally did! Satriani with the rest of the DP mk 2 band? Incredible, he really was a good fit for them. I think Morse is an amazing player but I never warmed up to him with them. Good point on Gary Moore--I hadn't considered him with them but he would've kicked some serious ass! Just like Satch, this would've been right up his alley.
He did an ok job filling in for Ritchie, but I'm glad they got Steve Morse. Much better fit for Purple.
Thanks for your upload. I was there in 94...and it was a great concert!
Long live Jon’s memory.
xoxo The Clarences
Did not know till now that JS played with Purple..What a solo! IMHO the best guitar work I have heard in Deep Purple..mind you RB and TB are royalty!
Awesome guitarplaying by Satch. Beautiful! 5 stars, thanks for posting.
It's a shame we don't have any official live cd of this line-up...Satriani is a great guitar player and he could have give a good contribution to Deep Purple.
Jon Lord, The Master
great performance satriani.. you are always welcome in deep purple..
Thanks for this. Its my first time hearing Satch jam with Purple! His sweeps are amazing. Would have loved to see this lineup live.
Satriani=Great Guitarist!
What a good memories! I was at their concert in Germany 4 days later after this gig...It was my first "big" concert I`ve ever been, and seing Satch with Deep Purple + Uriah Heep as a warm up act totally blew my mind..
Love Joe's sweeps.
You Go Joe! Love how you were searching for notes and playing off John Lord! :-)
I don't agree. Somebody can replace Blackmore, but it's someone with a strong personality, who doesn't try to copy Blackmore's style and has the rock in his blood... for me Morse is the ideal deep purple guitarist today.
Huh - Knew Satriani played with Purple for a year - but never saw live footage... Awesome. Woulda been great to see live.
Good song! Satch is a beast and legend!
Never seen them together before...Thanks for posting!!!
Joe, he is incredibly talented...yes, he is!!
Hats off to extreme professionality...
I've watched DP with Satriani at Lonigo, near Vicenza (Italy) the same tour. Was anybody there? Hello to all my friends from Trieste who were with me...
F'g awesome. I'm in heaven.....period. Thank you SO MUCH...for posting this!
Take a seat Blackmore, Satch is in the house.
Well said bro! GOLD!
If there was to be a replacement for RB then Joe Satriani is a naturally exciting player which is what DP is all about
Satriani is the best master..!!
The handshake !
Thanks for taking the time to Post this piece
First off, I am sad to say that Jon Lord passed away in the summer of 2012, RIP.
Blackmore has been a creative force with his unique style and talent, one of the best. His guitar work was signature to the band. But by all accounts, when he took his guitar off, he was an asshole. That was a pity as the band had synergy and magic with him
This gig is just like Satriani in G3: an excellent guitarist who is marvelous at what he does within a very limited range. RIP Jon and DP...Thanks:)
Wow. This is the first time I've gotten to see this line-up. Thank you!!!
joe satriani on lead guitar...mmaaaaadddd!
Jon Lord was a great keyboard player. I put him right up there with Ray Manzerek of the Doors...
One thing about Satriani I really admire besides being one of the greatest guitar players on the planet when he lost his hair he didnt put a wig on like half these guys out there now some look completely ridiculous!!!
Or they "hide" their hairlines with a bandanna 24/7, which is just as ridi.. lol
Gillan and the rest are just so much more relaxed without Ritchie
I love Satch but that solo sucked balls!!! Should've expanded on the Blackmore guitar would've sounded better. Wtf.
perhaps, but DP without Ritchie is NOT DP. Same way Jagger may feel more comfortable/liberated without Keith Richards, but he knows TRS would be pointless without Richards.
JJRJ 85 satriani has made a career out of being a solo guitar player, making guitar music. He’s a top player in the world man. He has no connection emotionally to any of the DP songs, he said that himself and when deep purple offered to gig to him I guess permanently, Satriani turned it down to play music that’s his and that he has an emotional connection to, his own music. Hope everyone is well.
i think just Gillan 😂
and camera men hhh
So I had to wait almost 30 years to hear this-had no clue that Satriani played with them. It was worth the wait! Joe sounds really inspired and is conscious of who he's replacing. There is only Blackmore. I've always loved this tune, the dynamic intro by Lord then it kicks in with that potent Purple onslaught! Very cool to see him with the rest of the mk 2 lineup which I dearly love!
Ian Paice watching Joe.
Cool
Thanks
Satriani is the best ...
Joe simply saved Deep Purple. Not more, not less!
❤
Love this tune!!!
i love joe satcriani with her hair........
Wow!! who's the Guitar player? an Alien who surfs with the Guitar?!!
Satch fit's in Deep Purple like a glove
Satriani è grande!
Who dresses Ian... Ritchie... hahaha...love that vest
Hey music is all emotional so to bring someone in new...is danger zone...when it works it's pure relief...u can't play great music holding ur emotional breath the hole time on stage.... piece
Awesome!
RIP Jon Lord.
MUITO BOM!!!!!
satriani rocks
Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple
Without Blackmore - Deep Purple impossible
checkout where Joe got sarch Boogie from it was from Michael Schenkers instrumental solo called Ulcer by MSG.
GUYS NO POINT AT ALL COMPARING RB - JS, THAT'S STUPID !! YOU THINK THAT SATRIANI LIKES TOO BE COMPARED TO BLACKMORE?? NO!! AND DO YOU HONESTLY THINK BLACKMORE LIKES TOO BE COMPARED TO SATRIANI NO !! THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!! SATRIANI IS FILLIN IN FOR A LIVING LEGEND !! AND SATRIANI HAS ALSO BECAME A LIVING LEGEND SO WE DON'T LOSE FELLAS !!!!! JUST SIT BACK SMOKE A JOINT, WHICH I AM DOING RIGHT NOW, AND JUST ENJOY !!!
Damn Straight Bro!
Satch did a great job and brought something different to the tunes to make them his own - awesome eg 5:30 solo
A very accurate analysis, I must say.
SATCH KING!
My god!!
Satriani well done !
Это на много лучше, чем то что играет Стив Морз!
Satch studied Ritchie early on and it shows.
satch always epic
Of course it is. Who has ever said it's otherwise?
Joe Satriani sounds very good with purple in my opinion much better than they do with Steve Morse
Феерично!
Satch rocks! Once I found a cd called "flying in a purple dream" with D.P. and Satch, but the recording was not that good, so I did not buy it :(. Maybe I'll find some good recordings of that tour.
Purple were prog rock ,gothic, funk rock and metal before any of those terms were in use. They were setting the template for a revolution in music."Nobody's daughter "is country,"Fireball" is thrash metal"Dealer" is brilliant ,sad and scary.
A true story. When DP and Joe got together thet send him a stack of cd's together with a setlist and asked him to rehearse those numbers during the next month. It was about 15 numbers.
Well, a month went and they got together at the studio to rehearse the live set and lo and behold satch came and had rehearsed some 25-30 numbers because he thought they could do well in a live situation, including "Anyone's daughter" which Ritchie wouldn't play live!
:) i like it !
Ha ha ha... love it... it's FUNNY!
A good respectable replacement from Ritchie Joe does a great job.
-Corey plant
jajajjajajaja the old satriani's look was simply amazing xD jajajajajaja
nice!
Long live Ritchie Blackmore!!
Joe is rocking with this band. With a little more excitement right?
Oh shitznik wow!! U can totally tell its JS's rhythm playing... well B4 he does the 🌟 awesome 🌟 solo that is!! Cool!! 😀❤
Joe was a great fit should have been a live release at least
@luckieian Class dude..skills
@Rammbock They actually offered him to stay as a full time member, but he had to refuse because he has signed a contract about solo albums and didnt want to break it or something like that. But then again morse isnt that bad.
that'd be the right kind of blackmore replacement.
AndyNyle JS is the perfect choice replacing RB
Rock On
