Joe is just unbelievable and incredible no matter how you look at it! But they said that he even felt he was not the right fit and he didn’t want to be in the band long term. His first response when they asked him to step in after Ritchie walked out mid tour was Nobody replaces Ritchie Blackmore and I’m not going to be the one stupid enough to try! But he said he couldn’t resist being part of such an iconic band even if just for a while.

That said -- if Satch could not stay (which he couldn't) their permanent choice as guitarist (Steve Morse) has proven to be a great choice. Almost 20-years and counting!

Habe die Band auf der Tour in Hamburg gesehen und war erst enttäuscht darüber dass blackmore nicht dabei war. Als alter purple Fan wollte ich sie endlich sehen. Aber die Enttäuschung wich schnell weil es ein durch satriani geiles Konzert war. Die hatten wieder Spaß ohne den launisch gelangweilten ritchie. Top entertainment
They are just killing it! They bring out the best in each other....Purple is showing Joe just how pwerful they are....and Joe is loving playing in a real band with great players playing great songs.....its a win win and WIN!
Joe must’ve felt like a kid playing with these Titans. They do sound good. I never understood how/why they agreed to do this each other, but glad they did!🤘

Joe is clearly having the time of his life and so are the band now that the Blackmore Cloud has been lifted. And clearly the fans are enjoying it too. Best possible solution for the situation DP found themselves in and kudos to Satch for knowing that once the tour was over, it was time for him to exit.
Yes , without Ritchie he can do anything. Sadly Ritchie left because he get bored of Gillan and this guy always forgot the lyrics on purpuse because he knew it that making Ritchie get angry. Honestly i had the silly dream many years ago about the Reunion before Jon passed away 😢 but Gillan's Ego never allow Blackmore comeback even for a Night or a song

Deep Purple ... the best live rock band ever? Grateful this was filmed at all. Shame the sound wasn’t taken from the mixing board but it does capture the excitement Purple felt/generated. In Joe they had a guitarist who wanted to be there and play his heart out. Ritchie wasn’t happy playing Rock in the end but he was responsible for channelling the spirit every member of this great band shaped into their deserved reputation. “The banjo player took a hike .... What’s that song I used to like .... Vavoom” (Ted the Mechanic - Purpindicular)
i was there, drove 5 hours, 350km to see them, saw gent and tilburg, and one more, was great , as a huge satch fan !!! but yeah, nobody plays like the banjo player... no one
I saw them on that German Tour two times. Two very different and interesting concerts. Joe did a great job in Purple even it was not the same before 1993 with Ritchie ....
Steve has to be asked to stand down from the best guitarist poll in guitar magazine because he had won it 6 times in a row. Listen to Sometimes I feel like screaming, from the stellar album Purpindicular and think again. Joe is brilliant.... so is Steve.
I've never been a big fan of DP but this concert changed everything - Satriani's audacity and great tone gave this band a totally new energy. And... that "Perfect Strangers" rendition (24:37) with his fills (25:45 for instance) is damn gorgeous!

Excellent, thank you, thank you for this upload! I saw them in Esbjerg (DK) in 1994, I can't recall that much about it, but this was a great reminder. Man Joe stepped up to the plate for this one, and it my understanding that he didn't have much prep time. He passed with flying colors in my opinion.
This is just so cool. I bet they opened with Highway Star so there would be NO DOUBT right away that Joe could do all of Ritchie's stuff. The crowd loved it.
I Saw Joe with DP at my first DP Concert in Lonigo near Vicenza in Italy i 1994. I found him very strong. I think he was more Blackmore like than Steve Morse. Morse changed DP . We donnot know where JS would have brought the group
Deep Purple is great as a BAND and not because of ONE particular (ex)member! The original name of the band was ROUNDABOUT and that's exactly what Deep Purple turned out to be: members hopped on and off the roundabout over the years.
You can really feel the energy in this. I love man in black but he was d*** at the end. I absolutely love these concerts.
