This is the greatest Band of Glam Rock in the 70s. Many Hits like Ride a white Swan, Jeepster, Get it on, Metal Guru and s.o. They are Icons of this Era.
Exactly
The Sweet.
definitely awesome band
Better to hear a live version, a fab band.
But Sweet was the greatest Glam Band by a mile.
Yes, they were the epitome of Glam Rock. Great suggestions for their other songs. Another one that comes to mind is 'Hot Love'. Æ 🙏
The lead singer, Marc Bolan, died in a car crash 5 years after this record. The band, T Rex, had 11 consecutive records in the Top Ten and 4 number one hits , at the time they were the most successful pop group since the Beatles in the UK
So many good songs from Marc Bolan/T Tex... Ride a White Swan, Jeepster, Get in On, 20th Century Boy, Hot Love... and many more.
This is one of the few bands that I can still listen to from the "classic" rock era. His musical creations are still worth hearing after 40 years.
T Rex and Marc Bolan are something special. So many amazing songs.
Marc Bolan is one of the most important musicians in music history.
Without Bolan, Bowie would have been different without Bowie no Madonna, no Lady GaGa, no Marlyn Manson Marc Bolan would have been as big as Bowie if he didn’t die when he was 29
"20th Century Boy" - that intro!
Это Легенда Мирового Глэм Рока, Марк Болан яркая звезда, талантище легкий , летящий, покоряющий!!! ❤️👍❤️
Marc Bolan was an obsessive musical genius, he was ultra specific about the details of the composition of his music.
T Rex is iconic. Only band mentioned by name in both a Who song and a Bowie song.
And a Mott The Hoople release of said Bowie song which defined their comeback 🤣
@@TheRyanH. Yes, Mott's version was the one we all listened to back then.
And lady Stardust, again by Bowie
There album Electric Warrior in my opinion is one of the Greatest Masterpieces ever released.
I can also recommend "Get It On" by T.Rex - probably their greatest hit.
This was the 70's...Marc Bolan was a legend. The children of the Revolution were the late 60's into the early 70's. We were all rebelling against the establishment, through music, fashion etc. it was an amazing time. I guess you had to be there ..
Love T Rex , i would go to work and drive past the tree just over the bridge that his car hit and sadly took his life , and for nearly 10 years i would always say my mornings and evenings to marc R.I.P ❤️
This is a good song but not one I'd recommend as your first foray into T-Rex. React to 'Get It On'; 'Jeepster'; 'Metal Guru'
You guys totally blow me away, one of the most underrated musical geniuses of rock, so many in rock esp should be bowing down to this rock monolith...I knew when I saw in 73 was witnessing rare greatness, yes u cant fool the children of the revolution!!!
Get it on(Bang a gong)by T Rex is excellent for a reaction.. you'll love it...
Love love love T Rex, Marc Bolan is God! ⭐
I’m a 54 year 👴 and I miss him and his music so much, when he died music became boring
@@davidbarker9755 I miss him but his music boring? That's just your opinion eh
@@MrsMillwall You miss read my reply, I said since he sadly died music generally has become boring, not his music
@@davidbarker9755 see have pound shop glasses at the mo as I broke my proper bins.lol
Saw them in concert, Brisbane Australia (1973) and the music was fantastic.
Marc bolan was a special breed of man !! God like and man he could write songs !!!
I'm not sure if Glam Rock really translated well to America, the New York Dolls maybe, but here in the UK we had a lot of it and it varied in quality. T Rex, however, were pretty consistently great and released a lot of very good records. It's easy to see aspects of Marc Bolan in the acts that followed in punk, rock and metal, he really was a big inspiration to many.
Yeah. There was Bowie, T. Rex, the Sweet, Slade, Mott the Hoople etc. Then you had pap like the Bay City Rollers and the Rubettes etc. who were just cash-ins on glam. A bit like the tail end of punk.
When glam is good it’s like the ultimate blend of everything good about rock.
I first heard and saw him when I was 15. His music is in my blood, bones, my being, my very soul. I still get 'goosebumps' listening to most of his music even now. Only one Marc Bolan. KALMIYH
The video to see of this is with Elton John and Ringo star playing with him. It is on a documentary of the band. Ringo took Marc Bolan's iconic picture used on the cover of The Slider album.
It’s on the 1972 Film Born to Boogie.
Cosmic dancer is also a great T.rex song
Marc Bolan was one wild dude.
Taken way too soon.
I'd like to see a reaction trying to understand Telegram Sam.
The Powerstation do an awesome version of their song "Bang A Gong (Get It On")
Other way around
No they don't. It was pointless a derivative, much like Tesla's cover of "Signs".
Love t rex . 20th century boy , get it on .are great as well . They have other hits too
Such a great band. They had so many hits in the 70s. RIP Marc.
Lots of good suggestions here, but “Lean Woman Blues” and “Ripoff ,” both from the Electric Warrior album, are in a class by themselves. Would love to see a reaction to either…or both!
Yeah, it's a shame that "Get it On" is the song that grabbed all the attention from that masterpiece of an LP. "Lean Woman Blues", Cosmic Dancer", "The Planet Queen", "Girl". The only track I didn't really care for is "Monolith". Ripped many a hit off my bamboo bong listening to this LP. Even more listening to "The Slider"...
Really that whole album is a hit, but yes i agree Those songs don't get enough love
It made me happy to see T Rex on your channel. Marc Bolan is the Golden God.
Good song, but there are SO MANY better tracks to get a first taste of T.Rex. In order: Bang A Gong (has to be first), 20th Century Boy, Mambo Sun, Ride A White Swan, The Slider, Life's A Gas, Telegram Sam, Jeepster. Led by Marc Bolan, T.Rex was the first true glam rock band, heavily influenced Bowie leading up to and during his Ziggy Stardust days. Great songwriting, incredible voice.
Bang a Gong's correct title is 'Get it On'. Plus you missed 'Metal Guru'.
@@normandavidtidiman9918 "Bang a Gong" is the correct song title. Printed title on the album cover (and my vinyl record and CD) is "Bang a Gong (Get It On)". Paranthesis indicates main name is "Bang a Gong". Also, didn't miss "Metal Guru", love that song, but there are similar tracks already listed and didn't want to overwhelm them. But I agree, "Metal Guru" is just as deserving as the others.
@@alan73795 The original (and proper) UK title is Get it On. Marc Bolan was English,wrote the song,and presumably wanted that as it's title. From wikipedia ;
"Get It On" is a song by the English glam rock group T. Rex, featured on their 1971 album Electric Warrior. Written by frontman Marc Bolan, "Get It On" was the second chart-topper for T. Rex on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it was retitled "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" to avoid confusion with a song of the same name by the group Chase."
@@normandavidtidiman9918 It really doesn't matter what it was called in the U.K. back in 1971; this young couple are listening to music in the U.S., a full half century after that song was released. In fact, when the band was first introduced to the American TV audience via the late night concert program Midnight Special back in 1973, the song was titled onscreen as "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" because that's how it was known on American radio and American records back then (as well as today). But I'm sure Brad and Lex appreciate the added context.
@@alan73795 Yeah, I keep calling it "Bang a Gong" for that very reason.
I was almost 10 when this video was out so I guess I was one of the children of the revolution ,I have a couple of vinyl albums of his Electric Warrior and The Slider both awesome albums Thanx for playing this ✌️💕☺️
Jeepster or Ride a White Swan, other great songs from this band
Jeepster is a bomb ..
Good track. Here's a non essential fact for you. My Grandad lived 2 doors away from the bass player Steve Curry's grandparents for over 20 years.
I always thought the Violent Femmes first did this song in the 80’s . I was today years old when I found out it was a T. Rex 1972 cover!
never too late to discover TRex
Wow ! you guys have gone deep . A deeper stive still would be into the early T. Rex stuff when they were "Tyranosaures Rex" , real Hippy dippy Stuff .
Please Brad, don't ask me what they were singing about here (I was stoned at the time i first heard it) it just sounded so full of fun .
Really interesting (but great) choice for your first T. Rex song!
Did anybody else think of Kurt Cobain and "Smells Like Teen Spirit?" I always get the impression that many artists were inspired by Marc in some way. Miss him much. Legend.
Amazing band, many great songs to react to
T-Rex20th century boy ! Awesome !
Marc Bolan and Alice Cooper...so much alike it's shocking that many don't comment on this first.
Love the cover of this by the Violent Femmes. I'd like to see you two go down that rabbit hole. 😃
Love this song, T Rex were class. Looks like you guys enjoyed it. X
Marc Bolan and T-Rex are one of a kind. You would love 20th Century Boy as well. ❤️😁
Marc Bolan was a ROCK STAR 🤘
Listen sometime to Mambo Sun from the Electric Warrior album, or Rabbit Fighter from The Slider album. They're slower which really allows Marc Bolan to show off his attitude and the rhythms that T Rex specialized in.
Their song ‘Get It On’ I am confident you have heard, react to that and see 😂
Bang A Gong (Get It On) was their US hit. It hit the charts again in the 80s by Robert Palmer
Also check out the band (The Sweet - Fox on the Run - Teenage Rampage - Love is like Oxygen - Blockbuster - No you Don't)
"I drive a Rolls Royce coz it's good for my voice" Is a reference to John Lennon, who couldn't fool the children of the revolution, they said.
The great Marc Bolan and T.Rex. I was 7 at this time and the music was just brilliant. Try Ride a White Swan, Hot Love, Get It On, Metal Guru, Telegram Sam or 20th Century Boy. Great rock n roll. Their music shouldn't really be over analysed.
YES!!!!! I listen to T REX every day
Also from this era, David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust and Starman, Roxy Music - Virginia Plain. Good times
Early Roxy Music and David Bowie are great too!
I can't listen to this without now picturing the Britannia credits! This is an epic UK series (3 series to date) about the Roman invasion of Britain - basically a weirder and wilder version of GoT.
SUCH a great show - I binged all 3 seasons in a week. Am weirdly attracted to the guy who plays Divis.
We loved T- Rex and Marc Bolan back in the days 🤗
There's a video on youtube of T Rex playing "Get It On" (which was a No. 1) with Marc's friend Elton John on keyboards.
No, Rick Wakeman played Piano on Get it On recording/record, not Elton John.
Elton John played with T.Rex on Top of the Pops doing Get it On which was mimed by the Group but with a Live Vocal over the record in 1971.
My hero as a teenager. Telegram Sam will always be my favourite.
Just one of the glam bands of the 70's
My fav glamrockband from the 70s🖖🔥
Cosmic dancer is heavy too!
Nice reaction
My no1 musical hero when i was a kid love Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan, had he lived, I suspect would have been on par with Bowie in artistic accolade by now.
Probably.
Very good shout!
Not a chance-his output hit the skids around 1975 as he got bloated in both ego & girth, the odd gem-but some really mediocre stuff.
@@daveborder7751 Who Bowie or Marc ;)
@@daveborder7751 I think the 80's would have been great for Marc.
Def Leppard's vocalist, Joe Elliot, use this song for his vocal style in Armaggedon it. From the Hysteria Album
If you guys want a great song try John Cougar Mellencamp video "Authority Song"."Jack And Diane " and "Little Pink Houses" too !
They were part of the glam rock era plus bands like the sweet, glitter band and of course SLADE
Released in 70s as a single had many hit singles, tail end of hippy era a time of protests unrest. 😎
You know you're kool when David Bowie mentions you in a song.
David Bowie wrote a song Lady Stardust which was supposed to be about Marc Bolan of Trex.
T. Rex and Marc Bolan absolutely brilliant. Try listening to Metal guru, or Cosmic dancer., Life's a gas. Anything by T Rex is great.
the slider is a cool tune too
Reminds me of POD - youth of the nation
Glam rock at it's best! Love Glam. Check out Bowie's albums "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust" and "Aladdin Sane". Also the band "The Sweet". Their best albums "Desolation Boulevard" and "Give Us A Wink" great albums.
I believe they've done "Ballroom Blitz" but as with this, probably not the best starter track.
You must listen to Ride a white swan. Life’s incomplete without it.
I loooooved T Rex !!!!!!
Bolan…. was way ahead of the rest! Died tragically ‘77
Mark was not only close fiends with David Bowie, they were equals in talent too.. His girlfriend Martha Jones was driving when their mini crashed into a tree, Mark did not survive, taken too soon. She was a Motown artist and had some success with Tainted Love, later an iconic worldwide hit when Softcell gave it the 80's synth treatment.
@Bad Lieutenant lol tx. it was a long time ago.
Zip Gun Boogie was one of their finest songs.
You need to do Bang A Gong from Trex. Absolutely an amazing song
Great 70’s Glam Rock
Other 70’s Glam Rock
1-David Bowie
Ziggy Stardust
Moonage Daydream
2- Mott The Hoople
All the Young Dudes
All the Way From Memphis
I think Marc Bolan may have played as a guitarist on Tina Turners Nutbush City Limits , he had a good ear .
You need to check out (T-Rex - 20th Century Boy)
TREX should only be played at 11. Anything less is an insult to the memory of TREX. "Rock on".
Yeah!
Epic band with the great Marc Bolan
Try the band "The Cult" video is "Lil' Devil" and "Love Removal Machine"
Glam Rock! Interestingly or boringly Marc Bolan had a children's 1970s Granada TV show called " Marc" where bands were featured. Drugs were apparent- lol. But also featured first TV performance of The Jam - post punk, anti Thatcher, anti fascist, socialist band - my heroes! Also check out The Style Council :)
Ending comment: "It's a strange piece of music"... Nope, it's a masterpiece like many of their other songs. Still love your channel though, even if you're not quite open to all types of music.
Eh, I think Lex got it with understanding it all being rebellious, including how they dressed and styled themselves, how the song sounds, and how it is a rallying cry.
@@katherinemorelle7115 I always like listening to both their opinions whether I agree with them or not. From what I've seen on this channel, Brad seems to get most of the stuff he listens to, but doesn't enjoy stepping out of his comfort zone musically. Whereas Lex just seems to be more open to enjoying other genres. Nothing wrong with any of that, but I just thought Brad's comment that it was strange, was a bit dismissive. I love his honesty though.
I am a big fan of T-Rex and this channel
PROTO-PUNK STREAM (ft. Bowie & T-Rex) NEXT!!!
Love thebelton john cover with pete doherty
I saw T-Rex with ZZ Top back in the day T Rex blew them away cool cool band and show
The version in 'Moulin Rouge' is fun. A good film for you to watch...
Big props for NOT going for the One Big HIt here; it's a great song, but Bolan and T. Rex were so much more.
Marc Bolan was my celebrity crush 😂
I think you will also LOVE 20th Century Boy
Yesss!!!
The band WWIII does a nice cover of this song.
I love "Life's a Gas" and "Girl in a Thunderbolt Suit" too. T. Rex...so good.
