Growing up in the 60s and 70s was great when it came to music. So many incredible talents, it makes me wonder where has all the talent gone theses days.
He was one of many artists who hated having to perform to the recording of the song on television instead of live.Hes intentionally playing the guitar and mouthing the words off 😂
Wow! Never thought I'd see a reaction to this. I used to go out with the bongo player ( Mickey Finn). I was quite a lot younger than him ( but legal ... just about)!! I did a bit of modelling for his ex wife and she introduced us. I didn't know who he was at first. Very crazy times for sure. Another good choice, thank you for taking me back to some great times.✌
The lead singer Marc Bolan was a superb Musician, Singer, Songwriter and Poet. His death in a Car accident in 1977 was an absolute tragedy. Who knows what else he would have produced. Check Out his Poem "Futuristic Dragon" featured on the Album of the same name. My Brother is a huge fan he still has a framed picture of him in his lounge.
Directly got to hit the like-button, before even watching the video 😅👌🏻 Grew up with T-Rex, Slade, The Sweet, because my Mom loved their music ❤ And then there was my Dad with Dire Straits, ZZ Top, AC/DC,... Love the music 🥳
Marc Bolan sadly died from a car crash aged 29. I loved his songs, he was a guitarist/songwriter & poet. He had quite a few songs & especially one called Debora. My name is Debbie 🙂. Also 'Ride a white swan'. I was a teenager at the time. xx
70’s was one of the best years for music, many different type. I remember loving folk, rock, country, soul, R & B, Funk, not one particular type of music.
This was already a great and catchy song and band, but when leader singer Marc Bolan died so tragically young, it made him into a Saint of Cool and Rock. While alive, everybody wanted to gobble him up, he was so attractive to men and women alike...like Jimi Hendrix or Floyd the Barber...although not quite as sexy as Flipper or Lassie (if you read their diaries). Obvious next song would be Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes", as they are glam rock and mention T. Rex in the song.Catchy as f*ck too.
In case no one else has mentioned it already, I thought you might enjoy seeing this other version of the song when they performed on Top of The Pops in 1971, and you might notice the young man in the red and black patterned shirt playing the keyboard is Elton John back when he was still a session backup musician by the name of Reg Dwight before he changed his name and just before his own meteoric career blasted off into music history...here is the exact name of the video to search yt for because I didn't know if leaving you the video link would work ...Enjoy! Much Love & Gratitude from a LIFETIME Sir EJ fan here in Calgary,Alberta,Canada! T. Rex - Bang A Gong (get It On) Top of the pops 1971 (Video)
Before MTV, long before most Americans had cable TV, came this blast from the past. I never knew what these bands looked like, since we only heard them on the radio. Glad ya'll did this.
Of course we love the reaction! Anything with you two in it is a good time and worth the watch. Thanks for this fun song. Perhaps check out My Sweet Lord by George Harrison for another song in the same era🙂
Love the reaction BUT nobody seems to react to the band when prior to T Rex they were Tyrannosaurus Rex. When they were just two guys with a very "Hippie" vibe , they offered something you'd never heard before and sadly after their transformation into T Rex you would never hear again. A challenging musical/vocal performance with fantastical lyrics. If only for your own entertainment and curiosity check out " Strange Orchestras" , " Deborah " and "Frowning Atahualpa, my Inca love" by Tyrannosaurus Rex . I could ramble on with a list of many more songs, suffice to say , that whenever I listen to any of the albums from Tyrannosaurus Rex (not T Rex) I'm smiling
I mentioned Marc before, and I remember this after his death. He was afraid of dying in a car crash...he did. Some of his lyrics were about this. But his mind was not normal. He was a wealthy artist, and after his death, all of his money disappeared. People thought it was his GF, but I think she tried to find it, without any luck
When you get it on, bang a gong you are smoking opium, the hubcap diamond star halo is a reference to a certain female body part. The song literally means: Sex, drugs and rock n roll.
David Bowie and Marc Bolan were the founders of the glam-rock genre. And of course they were friends too. If you hear the song "The Jean Gene" from David Bowie you`ll know what I mean. Best wishes @all from Hamburg (Germany)
Love your reactions !!! Dominika, Powerstation (Robert Palmer, of Robert Palmer fame) also did a version of this song, and you've probably heard that version, since it came out many years after this (1985, as opposed to 1971) and they tended to play that one more, once it came out.
If you want to see where T Rex started out find Tyrannosaurus Rex, which was a duo. Micky Finn and Marc Bolan were the final partnership before T Rex was formed. An interesting track to look for maybe just for your own interest is Debora, it’s classic of their style!
The Power Station,a Super Group that was made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor and Andy Taylor did a cover of this in 1995.
THAT IS A 62 PAN HEAD. HAD ONE. BECAME MY LOVER, TILL, 73. HONEY WAS A HEART RUMBLE. IF YOU CUT MEEE DOOO I NOT BLEED HARLEY OIL. IF YOU KICK MEEE OVER. DOOO I NOT RUN ON, FOREVER. WITH A NEVER-ENDING THROTTLE. OHHHELL YES!! I DOOO 100% AMERICAN MADE, JUST LIKE MEEE.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s was great when it came to music. So many incredible talents, it makes me wonder where has all the talent gone theses days.
They are still here but not many people developing and promoting their talents. Plus there aren’t many places to play and hone the skill ☮️

Before "the confrontation Britney Spears vs Christina Aguilera" in the 90s...there was "David Bowie vs Marc Bolan" in the 70s

Mickey Finn died in January, 2003 he was T-Rex's percussionist and Marc Bolan's sidekick!!!

Most of those bands of the 70s you thought were American were probably British. 😄

I enjoy your Channel.🙂👍
Also, while they don't show him, Elton John was the piano player in this performance.
Loved Marc Bolan, him and Bowie led the way.
❤

Hot Love, I Love To Boogie, Ride A White Swan are other T-Rex songs you will love. Please react to more. Really like your channel
Check out their appearance on Midnight Special. You can't go wrong with performances from Midnight Special
Great song. The Super group Power Station did a fantastic job covering it. Power Station would be a good band to dip into as well.
Blondie played this song live, I remember it was on a bootleg.
check out the cover by the super group The Power Station 🤘 also for 70's glam look at The New York Dolls 💋
The Power Station,a Super Group that was made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor and Andy Taylor did a cover of this in 1995.
TRY CAT BALLOU. OPENING SEQUENCE. AND IF YOU LIKE THAT, MAYBEE TRY THE MOVIE. JANE FONDA, LEE MARVIN, STUBBY KAY, AND NAT KING COLE.
Try 20th Century Boy or Ride A White Swan or Children of The Revolution next, the list is very long.
T REX STANDS FOR TYRANASAURUS REX THE PREHISTORIC MONSTER. THE BAND WAS BRITISH

Bang Or Gone
IMO after the 70s music and talent declined more with each passing decade, more technology now and less talent, great reaction
