- In this video we're checking out T.Rex. We've only heard Get It On (Bang A Gong) from them, and MAYBE one more. They have an interesting style, and we're pleased to hear what else they've done. Enjoy!

cynthiamartin....
Trust me, nobody of any consequence, covered a Marc Bolan/ Trex song, THEY JUST IMITATED badly Marc Bolan / Trex are NICHE. Copycats are Dullards : )
T.Rex were the number one band in the UK in the early 1970's. They were massive. They influenced so many bands that came after. You must play Get It On by T. Rex.
We know it quite well. We're still trying to think up good excuses to do songs we do know, for whatever reason but, as this is, at present, a reaction channel, we must abide by the rules we've set out.
Until Slade that is
I have no idea why "Bang A Gong" was so big? Marc Bolan didn't even like it lol. T. Rex put out waaaaay better stuff than Bang A Gong. Check out "Metal Guru" or "Spaceball Ricochet" or "Girl" by T. Rex. Now those were some of T. Rex's best stuff.
@@Ghostwriter78 I think the same... t. rex has like 50 best songs
@@alanwhitney3263 After Slade who was it? Because although we love these bands, the reality is that they only lasted a couple of years. I would say there wasn't anything like it until the jam, adam & the ants or the police
Marc Bolan left Andy Taylor for dead when it came to playing the guitar. He did the guitar work on Tina Turners Nut Bush City Limits, he also had a son to one of Tina’s backup singers, Gloria Jones. Elton John played the synthesiser on this song and Hot Love I’m pretty sure, before Elton was really famous.
I remember in 1968, a friend brought round a newly released vinyl album of, Prophets Seers and Sages.......by Tyrannosaurus Rex, and we all loved it. I especially loved Conesuala, and Stacy Grove. There was also an earlier album, My People Were Fair and had Sky in their hair....from which Child Star was a fave of mine. Needless to say , by 1970 they had gone electric with Ride A White Swan, Elemental Child etc, and the rest is history.
This is the original written by Marc Bolan. It got to no.2 in the UK charts in 1972. T.Rex are my favourite band. I saw them once in 1976. Bolan died in 1977.
Loved this in 72, we were so lucky to have T Rex, Slade, Sweet, Bowie, Roxy, Mud etc al
@@alanwhitney3263 Yes. I saw T.Rex, Sweet, Bowie and Wizzard.
@Ron Neighbour saw Slade 12 times, Mud and Abba twice, Sweet, Suzi Q,T.Rex, missed Bowie and Mott though
'Deborah' from when they were known as Tyrannosaurus Rex needs a listen guys I was 10 when it came out, musically I was never the same again 😊 Others to try would be 'Metal Guru' 'Jeepster' Solid Gold Easy Action' Telegram Sam'
Love a bit of T REX such a shame Marc Bolan died so early in his life, guess we all got robbed of his talent so early on....Great track 😊
Its the original song written by Marc Bolan.
Loved this and has one of the best tongue in cheek lines ever "i drive a rolls royce cause it's good for my voice" Genius
But ironically he couldn't actually drive!
Yes that line grabbed me as a kid when I heard the Violent Femmes cover and loved it. As I grew in my rock nerddom I heard the awesome original. Also the Damned- Smash It Up is a nod to Marc on his passing. He had brought the Damned on tour and treated them kindly. R.i.p Marc🎤🎸🕊️
Hi I think you are thinking about U2 they didn't sing the words but used Marc's melody on one of the Batman films they are the only ones I know that used Children of the Revolution Guns and Roses played Buick Makane on one of there albums hope this clears it up for KALMIYH❤ for ever!!
There is so much in this power-packed back catalog. Metal Guru is also a fun ditty. Spaceball Ricochet and CosmicDdancer include super cosmic lyrics.
Thankyou as always for playing the cool stuff from all those years ago..
Oh sure. You just want to sit there in your armor plated chair. Well, right on then. You were born to boogie.
If you liked the strings? They were added by the producer: Toni Visconti, who also did production for David Bowie. He played the recorder himself in some of Marcs tunes. 'Sitting here', a b.side on a single, the title of the A side escapes me at this time... Check out 'Telegram Sam'. The albums 'Electric Warrior' and 'The Slider'. Stand back set faces to stunned!
After Marcs untimely passing. Toni, who did production on his music, even played the piano in the earlier era Tyrannosaurus Rex. 'Cat black'. Used the production skills, he and Marc agreed on, to finish an old project, which Marc put on the shelf, when he caught the attention of the mainstream audience. 'The Children of Rarn'. Toni recorded the session and embellished it, and the end result, is a snapshot, of how Marc wanted to create a 'Rock opera', based on mythical lands and characters. Which was the trend at the time. 'Tommy' by the Who to name one example. Anyway, check out this... 'The Children of Rarn, the full saga'. Not great 'reaction video' material. Listen for for your own enjoyment, amusement... ua-cam.com/video/SUC6afAjMmk/v-deo.html
T Rex were probably the biggest band in the UK in the early to mid 70s..... 11 consecutive Top Ten singles including 4 number ones was a comparable record to The Beatles. The group's front man and songwriter. Marc Bolan, died in a car crash in 1977
Slade outsold them in UK
Marc wrote all their stuff (except for a couple of B-sides etc. Good version of "Summertime Blues" on the B-Side of "Ride a White Swan.")
“You can twist and shout… let it it all hang out, but you won’t fool the Children of the Revolution “
That’s how I’ve felt about the new music I’ve heard since the 90s.
It just doesn’t measure up to the music of the 60s thru the 70s.
That’s the music I grew up with , I’m a child of the revolution and I haven’t been fooled into thinking any of the music since has been really good.
Ermm...this is a T. Rex original, folks. I think a couple people covered it but this is originally by T. Rex. You might be thinking of Kesha?? Apparently Kesha covered it. But not nearly as good as T. Rex.
We don't listen to Kesha.
Imo because this literally is my own rebellion song (am 41 past that sht but this was and is my fk you song) i always hated it was super short and ends abruptly lol this anthem had legs...such a good choon.. i really hope the message within that 2 mins can change whoevers listenings life..as it did for me... Children of the revolution... Yeah? 👍
A lot of them pics in the video ain’t Marc Bolan at all 🙄
Hi guys, just wondering if you're remembering the chorus from a TV commercial for the Fiat 500? it had heavy rotation for sure.
We haven't made use of TV in quite some time now. We found everything repetitive. And there were too many ads. And after MuchMusic stopped actually being a music station, there was nothing left on TV that was interesting that we couldn't find some other way. We thought we were rid of them (the ads). Then UA-cam started making money. Not that we're complaining.......... :)
So..theres obviously a chance you heard this outright one time years ago and you may have (speaking to the woman) or you may have listened to a Swedish house mafia song that has similar conitations .. o don't think this has been covered like bone fide... I can only think of melody.. 🤔
Tony Visconti (the producer) put strings on most of the T.Rex singles.
It was used in an advert for fiat cars
This is a pretty well known classic rock song in Australia. Still gets played on radio to this day. I remember Violent Femmes having a version and I remember a horrible dance-techno version in 1989 by Baby Ford.
maybe, but I've always found Baby Ford's Chikki Chikki Aah Aah to be a real earworm and good to dance to manicly!
Scorpions did a version
@@garycarver5005 Sorry, only just saw your response... Gonna check it now...
I think I remember it... I better stop it before the earworm makes a new home in my head! lol
@@hanierfamily Not a bad version either.. Better than Babyford's...
@@hanierfamilyViolent Femmes had a minor hit with the song too
He influenced alot so no wonder you think someone else did it
T rex Marc bolan rote this track brilliant
The Violent Femmes did a cover of this track. T-Rex were a great band and Marc Bolan was a front man, T-Rex had many hits in the UK, 'Jeepster', 'Ride a White Swan', 'Get It On' (known as 'Bang a Gong (Get it On) in the US), 'New York City', 'Metal Guru', 'Solid Gold Easy Action', and many more, but these are good ones to start with.
20th century boy. Don't forget that also
@@jasonfrodoman1316 Yes, a great suggestion.
And Telegram Sam… brilliant track!
@@merlinhotspurs Yes, it is, another class track by them.
@@Adam_Le-Roi_Davis. Who told you that? Golden Nose Slim?
Great stuff again. You could do my favourite of theirs, Ride a white swan (probably best known now for being better played at the end of the Billy Elliot film). Or Metal guru, Hot love or Jeepster.
Scorpions did a version, quite authentic
The best T.REX track that kicks all the others out the window is 'JEEPSTER' - :)

A Wizard truly missed!
Neon Indian also did a cover of this circa 2010 - super electronic version. That's where I first heard it, then got into T.Rex/Bolan
One of my all time favourite songs. ❤
The Violent Femmes have a good version of this song love you guys
Elton john played piano on this
The Violent Femmes did a cover of this song. I left a link below.
ua-cam.com/video/V2f08j7o8qs/v-deo.html
You may know it from the movie 'Moulin Rouge', It was one of the featured songs.
We're not really fans of that movie but, we did watch it. A couple of times to make sure we didn't like it. :) It's possible we remember it from there. Not likely, though.
Half the pics in that video aren't actually Marc Bolan
We noticed that. Strange.
There's a persistent story that Marc only knew seven chords, and two of them were different ways to play C.!
An important figure, certainly in the UK, was a massive pop star, had his own tv show and helped Glam rock become huge.
Fame did not entirely agree with him sadly, and he became estranged from most of the people and friends that had helped make him famous.
I'd add the song Planet Queen to the suggestions!
Baby Ford did a version of this, I'm wondering if that's the one you guys have heard?
as a guitar player i can tell you those stories are bullshit because once you know the common chord finger shape it is the same up and down the fretboard for all 13 major chords. Move one of those fingers and boom now you have all 13 minor chords. Plus, listening to Marc play he was a good guitar player, not some super elementary player.
@@Asshat237 yeah, it's pretty clearly an apocryphal story. He was a pretty interesting rhythm player for sure, had some groovy riffs and even his lead work has a certain charm, though it is a little limited.
@@Sandy-dd4le Oh! i didn't realize that you also play and that you were casting doubt on it. hah
@Bad Lieutenant im guessing you didn't read the whole thread
T rex not a hillbilly band
Baby Ford
Marc wrote the original varies have people have covered it, but none of them touch the original!
like others commenting here, I grew up with T.REX - it's important to say COTR has been used in many commercials too and you may have heard the chorus ONLY in one of those - Other BIG hits in the UK by T.REX were 'Hot Love', 'Get it On' (which you already mentioned it was relelased as 'bang a Gong' in the US) 'Telegram Sam' and 'Metal Guru' all of which reached number one in the UK other top ten hits 'Jeepster' 'Twentieth Century Boy' 'The Groover' 'Solid Gold Easy Action' 'Ride a White Swan' 'debora' & 'I Love to Boogie' are all worth a listen
FWIW Tony Visconti was mostly responsible for the Orchestral arrangements on many T.REX tunes he Bolan and Bowie all met as unknowns and all became superstars in their own right - Marcs Career was cut short after successful TV and Movie work when at 29 years old (two weeks before his thirtieth birthday) he died in a tragic car accident but in a career which lasted a little more than 10 years he'd been a Model and a Mod, a Hippy folk star underground artist a rock star and he'd mixed a lot of Genres - many of the Punk bands of the mid to late 70's reckoned that Bolan had been a major influence - KALMIYH x
We did a reaction to Metal Guru, go check it out! We know Twentieth Century Boy and we have a reaction to Ride A White Swan, go check that one out too! The rest we added to our list. Thanks for watching!
simple minds done a version and raging speed horn?
try metal guru or elemental child for some rockin' guitar guys
Really enjoy your down to earth and honest reactions.
Marc Bolan died just outside my house in Barnes London...
wow
I've been to visit... from Australia
@@AcePanno1 ...its more like an old fashioned stone marker that would have 10 miles to London written on it....
Who are the photos of?
The photo at the end of this one is Chris. We used to put up pics of nature or one of us. Now we use the band or artist pics at the end.
Violent Femmes did a cover
Great song! Strange video though, some of the photos that appear are of Ville Valo from thr band HIM!
Maybe whoever made the video is a fan of both. Or can't tell them apart?
@@hanierfamily possibly! Great video and great reaction regardless 👌
My other all time fave is Wishing well by Free!
Thank you for that Col. I often wondered.
Still have my 7" vinyl copy of "Wishing Well"(is it valuable yet?)
@@alaska_uk1303 Doubt it. About £6
Good shout
Much preferred their early "hippy" acoustic period when there were just two of them in the "band" and they went by the full title of Tyrannosaurus Rex. Their first three albums released within a year 68-69 were acoustically deceptively simple yet lyrically intriguing, with song titles such as "Frowning Atahualpa (my Inca love)" and "Oh Harley - the Saltimbanques". Bolan eventually dropped the "hippy" persona and pursued his apparent early ambition ambition of becoming a pop star. The band grew in number , became electric and for a number of years from 1970 onward they were massively successful in the UK with more limited success elsewhere. Marc Bolan even had his own tv show in 1977, one of his guests was David Bowie. Marc Bolan died in a car crash in sept 1977. Remembered fondly for his early work by now ageing hippies and for his later pop/glam rock work by now equally ageing screaming teenagers 😉
Check out trex 20th century boy if you get a chance.
@tecdessus Slider was the first album i ever purchased. I was 12 at the time. Now 62. So we are on the same page. Weird it seems like yesterday.
I think we know the remake of that song by Chalk Circle.
@@hanierfamily if thats the case, there is a pretty great video of TRex performing "Baby Strange". Really shows how the kids were hyped over Marc. Good riff too.
Scorpions did a cover of it, and its better than the original :)
