The point you mentioned about not comparing yourself to others is so important! I've been in dance classes ever since I was three years old (I'm 16 now) while I was also a competitive Hip-Hop & commercial dancer. I used to always be placed in the back of formations since I was one of the weakest dancers in my class. This caused me to keep comparing myself to others and even though I practiced a lot, I just wouldn't see any improvement. My goal was never to have fun and to be confident in my skills, it was to reach the skill level everyone else was on (a very bad approach). However, as time went by, I stopped caring about others and started dancing for me. This not only made me realize why I love dance, but it also made me improve significantly! I can finally have fun and feel confident while dancing. I was even chosen to join a competitive K-pop dance team! This just proves that having the right mindset really is the key to progress
Notes for self Tips for learning: #1. Watch video as much as possible day before #2. Chunk it- by parts of song or body parts #3. Let it marinate! Sleep on it For improving: #1. Record yourself! (This is so freaking relatable. Sometimes I think I’m killing it & the video doesn’t look great 😭) #2-3. Compare to the dance vid but don’t let urself be discouraged. #4. Strength & flexibility training (oof 😅) #5. Learn and brush up on some fundamental dance steps (like take a hip hop fundamental or free vids like steezy) (maybe do a hip hop warm up before dancing) #6. Find people who motivate you!
sleeping on a dance is kinda miraculous. I always find out that move i tried 100 times yesterday and couldn't do at a right speed just seems easy and natural the next day! I think our brain proccesses it during the night.
The science behind "let it marinate" is similar to why studying is more efficient after a good night's sleep, basically your mind rehearses during the deepest state of the sleep cycle REM, and studies have shown the activation in the brain is on par with those actually doing the practice whilst awake!
I started learning kpop dance as a 28 year old man about a month ago. Thank you for all your tutorials which gives me more confidence in doing something I never thought I'd ever be able to do! You are awesome and keep up the amazing content as my go to teacher!
Thank you for commenting! I thought I was the only 28 year old here for some reason. Glad I’m not alone. I would love to see older people start dancing to K-pop too!
Haaa, here I am at 29 and going hahahhaha xD I felt weird for being so addicted to Kpop at this age (Specially loving Skz so much), but is soo nice to know I'm not alone! Kpop is a super fun genre to learn and we totally should make an Ahjumma/Ahjussi dance group KKKKKKKKKKK
Great! I still practice, life gets in the way sometimes but it has become a part of a workout routine. I feel I have a lot more body control than when I started and can be more expressive! I'm nowhere near good but it's a great hobby and I'm glad I picked it up!
I personally learn a dance that is way above my level and brush up on it every few months because i can really see the improvement in how i analyze the dance and how my energy, stage presence and details change.
ive been dancing for almost 2 years and a couple of days ago i found old videos of me dancing and it showed how much i improved i thought i hadn’t improved but then i saw those old videos and they motivated me so much
Thank you so much for your tips! I'm dancing to kpop since December last year. I beginned with shut down by blackpink and I was very surprised that it worked well with the moves. Then in beginning of june i discovered stray kids! I tried learning s class and the footwork was really hard because I've nerver had that much footwork. It took me 2 weeks to get the s class chorus done. Ever since I've danced every day and im currently on my 128th day streak of dancing to kpop every day😂❤. I can already dance to so many songs for example: shut down, Cheshire, s class, killing me good, i love my body, super shy, and way more. Sadly none of my friends are really interested in kpop or dancing so I'm going my own way with that. Some tutorials really help me get the details right (like you with 3d :) ). I'm also very excited for Stray kids comeback soon since im a stay :] I'm improving every single day and I'm so happy about it! Again i want to thank you for the advice and for helping me improve my dance even more❤! I hope you have a great day and keep dancing😊
Letting it marinate is the truest thing I have ever heard about dancing. I've been dancing since I was a child and there has been a lot of times that I couldn't be able to hit certain beats or do some steps perfectly and I would just let it go for some hours even though I was frustrated and when I went back to it suddenly I would have the steps all figured out! Taking your time is really a crucial part of it.
notes for self ~ - how to learn kpop dances 1. Stretch 2. Find a mirrored video 3. Watch the dance over and over again (to get familiar with it) 4. Start at a slow speed and one move at a time 5. Add more moves and connect with the previous move 6. Put every thing together without music 7. Then slow music 8. Speed it up 9. Record and fix or you can use the dance tutorial videos - learning tips!! 1. Watch videos alot the day before 2. Chunk it - break it up 3. Let it mirinate - how to improve 1. Record yourself and monitor, see where needs more work 2-3. Compare the video to the idols video but don't be discouraged 4. Do other dances like hip hop or free videos on UA-cam such as steezy 5. Strength and flexibility training 6. Surround yourself with positive people
thank you, this motivates me to go on, I've never been a natural dancer, so it's really hard, especially since I'm 36 and not exactly in shape, but I do want to get better at it. It's fun and something I admire!

Thank you very much not only for this video. I just got into kpop about one and a half weeks ago and got into dancing just 6 days ago. I struggle with adhd which makes me get hyperfixated quite quickly but I also stop doing things as quickly. I am using your tutorial for my first dance. I never danced before and i am struggling with a lot of moves but I am improving. My flat mates also joined the dancing so now we are having a dance lesson every evening with your tutorial to 3D! Looking forward to more tutorials and learning new dances. Let's hope this will not be a hyperfixation but a new hobby that i'll do consistently. Thank you!
it's really helpful & comforting to hear you describe learning routines in terms of days and not hours/minutes. i always get frustrated when i go through one tutorial and don't have it by the end, and i end up thinking i must just be awful at learning to dance. it helps to be reminded that it takes time for everyone, not just me. thank you
Recording yourself is so helpful because you can see whether you get the steps right and etc, i recorder myself i and i realised i wasnt so good at dancing as i thought i was but im gonna keep practicing! 💓💓
6:30 yes yes and yes!! I watched the skz chk chk boom mv around 67 times before learning it 😂 + i listened to it while i was eating, sleeping, and playing online games . It really helped me !
the tip at 9:02 really helps, today i was trying to learn a dance, and couldn't do it, and I got to the point of crying and giving up, but this will help me :)
The comparison and self esteem part really hit home. It’s been the biggest roadblock I’ve hit since getting into Kpop dance. I have to remind myself that everything takes practice and time 🙏🏼
Thanks a lot for the tips! I've been practice dancing since January this year. I also did dance last year but I wasn't really serious about it. These tips definitely help me out because I have a cover channel. I learned full dances of Antifragile, Queencard, Lion, Pink Venom, Shut Down. But I didn't let it marinate and did in a rush, so the covers are really bad. But now I can do it really good. I'll keep these in mind next time!
Thank you for your super clear and amazing tips! I would love tips on growing confidence and not being afraid to practice dancing in front of others, esp family 😅
Hey, thank you very much for the tips, I started dancing last year but I feel like I've improved a lot, I'm going to keep training until I really get good❤❤
thank you for your video it helped me a lot, I am French and I don't speak English much but I understood everything you said thank you and you are so beautiful
Thank you for this video! I will try the 3-day method that you referenced - learning the point choreo shown in the MV on the first day, and then moving on performance and dance practice versions the following days. And thanks for the last tip: 'I am the dancer I am covering!!'
Thanksss a lot !! I was feeling soo low 30 minutes ago thinking that there are multiple dances in my country or in the world so why should I start! And your video popped up.. Thank you for making this video! Your suggestions sound like good advice. I'm really glad you talked about options for people without mirrors or who can't go to a dance class for example. I'm also grateful you took the time to address the psychological aspect of learning to dance regarding self-esteem, comparison to people who do this for a living, and frustration at perceived non-improvement. Just saw an amazing interview of NBA superstar Nikola Jokić by his teammate, Michael Porter Junior. He and their 2023 NBA Championship-winning team share the philosophy "habits, not goals." This means not to set a goal thinking achieving it is the only way to be happy. Rather, start making and consistently doing the good habits that will help one to build the process of becoming skilled enough to finish completing the task. And to ENJOY THE JOURNEY is one of the most important things, as you pointed out. Setbacks or failures can become valuable learning experiences, a chance to reassess the endpoint, and perhaps make necessary changes to one's habits to achieve it. I've discovered that when there is a problem, one can choose how to react: is it a burden? Or is it a challenge? The difference in mindset is astonishing! Thank you very much for the video! Happy new year!🙏🎶💃🕺🪩🎉🥂✨ PS. The Nikola Jokić interview is on the UA-cam channel "Curious Mike".
First time viewer here. I loved this video! Super insightful, I’ve been self taught for about 2 years but I learned a lot of useful tips. Also your energy is infectious
Guys honestly I've been putting off trying to dance for legit years because I've been nervous to start. And whenever I dance it looks so bad so if anyone has any advice comment on this and I'll take it because I really wanna do this
I'm starting kpop dance rn.. because I'm auditioning for a dance crew tbh i was gonna give up dancing because i think that my dancing is not that good.. and i keep comparing my self to other dancers i have very low self esteem but then i saw your videos on my recommendation i was like okay uhmm I'm not giving up dancing soo yeah tysm for making this video ❤❤❤
I am very lucky since 90% of my friend group loves k-pop and dancing to it I just got back from one of their houses and we where watching k-pop and trying to dance to it
Great video, Fuji! I love your Videos. The tips are super helpful. Could you make more videos like this? Also, do you use counts? I struggle with them, so if you have any tips or explanations, that would be really nice! Many say that knowing counts is important to be a good dancer. True? As for myself, I sometimes feel that I dance too powerfully or it gets a bit messy. I'm not sure how to fix that. Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, I really love your profile picture! 💃👍
In some days i'll start taking kpop dance classes, im so scaredd hahaah. I did 7 years of modern dance and 3 years of ballet but now its been 4 years since i've done nothing and im going there with no friends so yeah, the idea is scaring me so muchhh!
How I learn kpop choreo 1. Hand movement/ upper body movement ( only the steps you observe or what you can do easily) 2. Leg movement ( also like the 1st one) 3. Do both with the music 4. Practice complicated hand / upper body and leg movement 5. Do step 4 with music 6. Practice x100000 Dont forget to warm up and take breaks from time to time Also, am I the only one who does dance practice without a mirror?! Like my self confidence drops to all time low whenever I see myself in the mirror
I am so glad I watched it all till the very end with true passion. This are amazing tips. I found really good ones even for my true hobby (singing)! You are awesome, thank you! Greets from Russia and all
Omg the one with letting it marinate is so true like i remember doing a dance in my group we just learned it i went home i wanted to repeat it and i almost forgot everything i was so mad at myself i started crying but guys next day i got myself up tried it again and see i could do the steps not perfectly Ofc but my head just needed time to process these moves so the worst thing you can do is stressing yourself i sometimes still stress but then i always remember to just let it cool down into my head
I'm tryna learning how to dance kpop, this was really helpfull. Thanks!! As a personal tip, if you feel a song is too fast for you, slow it until you feel confortable, then make it a little fast, little by little. I start always with 0.5, then 0.6, 0.7...Until I get to the normal speed. Hope somedoby find this useful.
"Letting it marinate" is so true! One day I can't get the dance down and the next day I suddenly get it.

The point you mentioned about not comparing yourself to others is so important! I've been in dance classes ever since I was three years old (I'm 16 now) while I was also a competitive Hip-Hop & commercial dancer. sleeping on a dance is kinda miraculous. I always find out that move i tried 100 times yesterday and couldn't do at a right speed just seems easy and natural the next day! I think our brain proccesses it during the night.

But I didn't let it marinate and did in a rush, so the covers are really bad. But now I can do it really good. I'll keep these in mind next time!
ooh i never thought about using a split screen to do comparisons😮i'm gonna try that next time! thanks for the tips~
Thank you for your super clear and amazing tips! I would love tips on growing confidence and not being afraid to practice dancing in front of others, esp family 😅

Now I just want her to cheer me up for dancing
And I would be ready to go-

Thank you for this video! I will try the 3-day method that you referenced - learning the point choreo shown in the MV on the first day, and then moving on performance and dance practice versions the following days.
And thanks for the last tip: 'I am the dancer I am covering!!'
Your video motivated me more😭
My go-to is also BLACK CAT. They’re super helpful and fast. Love them. Love you. Thank you

Your accent really good. Very easy to listen and translate.❤
For PC users you can split screen easy too. Hold win key then use the directional arrows it will split the screen evenly
He and their 2023 NBA Championship-winning team share the philosophy "habits, not goals."
This means not to set a goal thinking achieving it is the only way to be happy.
Happy new year!🙏🎶💃🕺🪩🎉🥂✨
PS. The Nikola Jokić interview is on the UA-cam channel "Curious Mike".
OMG thank you soooooo much for this helpful video! I recently got into K-pop dance but didn’t know where to start. Your tips are invaluable ❤❤❤
First time viewer here. I loved this video! Super insightful, I’ve been self taught for about 2 years but I learned a lot of useful tips. Also your energy is infectious

ty for this! i do dance 2-4 times a week and this helps!
Best trainer ever
Great video, Fuji! I love your Videos. The tips are super helpful. Could you make more videos like this? Also, do you use counts? I struggle with them, so if you have any tips or explanations, that would be really nice! Many say that knowing counts is important to be a good dancer. True?
As for myself, I sometimes feel that I dance too powerfully or it gets a bit messy. I'm not sure how to fix that. Any advice would be appreciated.
By the way, I really love your profile picture! 💃👍

This helps so much

In some days i'll start taking kpop dance classes, im so scaredd hahaah. I did 7 years of modern dance and 3 years of ballet but now its been 4 years since i've done nothing and im going there with no friends so yeah, the idea is scaring me so muchhh!
I only started realizing my love for k-pop dances even tho I’ve been into k-pop for 3 years so these are really helpful tips thank you❤
How I learn kpop choreo
1. Hand movement/ upper body movement ( only the steps you observe or what you can do easily)
2. Leg movement ( also like the 1st one)
3. Do both with the music
4. Practice complicated hand / upper body and leg movement
5. Do step 4 with music
6. Practice x100000
Dont forget to warm up and take breaks from time to time
Also, am I the only one who does dance practice without a mirror?! Like my self confidence drops to all time low whenever I see myself in the mirror
omgg thank you so much, i love your style of dancing 😢💗
I am so glad I watched it all till the very end with true passion. This are amazing tips. I found really good ones even for my true hobby (singing)! You are awesome, thank you! Greets from Russia and all
As a jazz dancer attempting to do these dances this is so helpful thank you so much 😊
You are really perfecttttt thank you for this perfect video
I love how I've been doing ballet for 10 almost 11 years and I have LOTS of trouble with k-pop dances. So this helped. :]
More videos like this please! Thank you :)
Omg the one with letting it marinate is so true like i remember doing a dance in my group we just learned it i went home i wanted to repeat it and i almost forgot everything i was so mad at myself i started crying but guys next day i got myself up tried it again and see i could do the steps not perfectly Ofc but my head just needed time to process these moves so the worst thing you can do is stressing yourself i sometimes still stress but then i always remember to just let it cool down into my head
thank you so much for this video!
Thats really helpful, thanks a lot❤❤❤

I'm tryna learning how to dance kpop, this was really helpfull. Thanks!! As a personal tip, if you feel a song is too fast for you, slow it until you feel confortable, then make it a little fast, little by little. I start always with 0.5, then 0.6, 0.7...Until I get to the normal speed. Hope somedoby find this useful.
