I’m also an animation nerd and sometimes when I watch dance videos I like to analyze dancers movements as it was a an animated character of a tv series. It’s just so satisfying to see how dancers apply the same principles that animators do when they animate 😊
eyy I was thinking the same thing! Also makes it great because if you work with others or in a team. Having concise terms allows your teammates to help precisely visualize what you are talking about or what you had in mind
As a long time character animator, I consider dance, acting and sports to be major pillars of learning about movement. Easily as important as the animation principles is your own relationship with your movement. Developing your ability to move makes a titanic difference. All the best animators I know can move in interesting, creative, and expressive ways. It's both a way to develop vocabulary and a way to exercise expression. If you're animating, dancing is one of the best arts to practice in parallel. Everyone talks about drawing and I wouldn't give back a single one of my tens of thousands of hours, but it's a DISSERVICE that dance/acting/sports aren't a normal part of curriculum and in the discussion at the same level.
Hi, Larissa! As you like to dance, you can dance my choreographies of joyful and lively Brazilian songs. All my choreographies have their own step-by-step tutorial so you can learn them. Welcome and enjoy the samba! 🥳🥳 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Something that also helps with executing more similarly to the teacher or source material is to practice and learn the move in the same way they're executing it. If they execute with a dime stop, followed by a pop initiation, do your best to incorporate that right away, rather than trying to add it all at the end. In the end, you're practicing so that the choreo ends up as "muscle memory", but creating these pops and dime stops is part of that memory. To choose to do that at the end means trying to execute without practicing it basically.

I can't believe how clearly this was explained. This was exactly what I was looking for. This is a rare moment that I searched for explanation on a difficult concept and actually found it on the first search on UA-cam. Thank you so much. I can't wait to see what else you have to offer. Also, I can't wait to try this out on the dance floor.

Hi, Julia! As you like to dance, you can dance my choreographies of joyful and lively Brazilian songs. All my choreographies have their own step-by-step tutorial so you can learn them. Welcome and enjoy the samba! 🥳🥳 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
the fact that i performed couple hours ago and ask close friends of mine based on the performance and the response was mostly execution and boom! this video pop up the moment I opened UA-cam🤣
I really needed at this video, cus I have been struggling a lot with execution, dynamics and textures. Thanks a lot! But I still feel kinda overwhelmed. What is the best way to practice this? Should I take a move and break down which types of execution I should use? It would mean a lot if someone could help me :)
I was wondering if there are any tips you could give or advice on what drills I can do to separate a move into all three parts? I am able to start a move with a certain initiation, but then I have trouble stopping it from taking over both the texture and the finisher. In other words, I am struggling between transitions of all three parts and making them different from each other. Would you have any advice for what I could practice in order to improve this issue? Thank you in advance.
@misterae6430 Sounds good! That makes a lot of sense. Thank you! I will try to work on strengthening the control of my body tension moving forward then. I really appreciate it.
Can you please offer some tips on how to execute dime stops or pops in a more efficient and sharp way? And thanks for the info I knew almost all the moves I just don’t know their names!
its all quick muscle contraction, mainly coming from the center of your body. Imagine tensing all muscles in your body for a split second, like a shock. Keep practicing this and add movements and more isolations
As someone who just started dancing last summer, fell in LOVE with it, and am now at the point where I want to take things seriously and to the next level, this series couldn’t have come at a better time 🫶
As an animation nerd I love this video. Very similar to animation principles: anticipation, squash and stretch, easing in ease out etc..
That’s so neat

you need to always have some general tension or engagenment in your body and while transitioning apply differnt levels of engagement i guess
