His 2008 victory against RF was probably just as vicious. Rafa was broken once in the second set but he still won the match with a 6-1,6-3,6-0 victory. That third set against Fed was brutal.
You could tell this match was over at 5:47 when Groth partially phased out of reality, hard to recover from that early on
Hahahaha 😂
I like how he just decided to go all-out serve and volley, without any second thoughts.
He knew what was going to happen and he smartly decided the way of pain wasn't worth it.
That’s how Groth usually plays irregardless of surface, his ground strokes aren’t the most consistent
@@liaocow *regardless
@BLENDABLE serve and volley is exactly what it sounds like: you serve run to the net, and try to volley; Groth did it quite a bit in this match
Scary thing is this was one of Rafa's worse years.
Nadal’s quality of tennis was actually very high that year but he wasn’t having the results to show it. I think he would’ve won the French open that year if he was healthy

Well, Sam Groth already lost when he left the locker room. Rafa was in his head. Thank you for this video. Love your content, especially Rafa's.
Thank you ❤️
When a player banks everything on his serve and does not take into account the brilliantly certified clay genius across the net that is Nadal. Even if Groth has the fastest serve on record Nadal has inarguably the best instincts on clay. Wivo you ought to patent your intro. Love this post. Love the editing. Have to say you excel at editing. ( Film was one of my majors at University so l know.) Thank you Wivo. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
i mean he doesnt bank EVERYTHING on his serve, he just has a good serve, nadal has a better all court game on clay.
Couldn't have said it better👍🏼👏
Sam Groth was one of the hardest servers in the world ... and was made to look like a qualifier.
Huge serves don't work on clay. Not against Nadal at least.
Groth played his arse off. Nothing to be ashamed of ...going up against the best.
The serve is not as effective a weapon on the slower red clay especially against one of the greatest clay court grand slam champions in the game. Now if this match had been at Wimbledon on the traditional grass courts that favor the serve that would truly be amazing.
10:43, best point of the match
NADAL is called "KING OF CLAY" for a reason and now you know
That intro is 🔥
5:10 that's the difference between a good player and a legend, Rafa would've tried to hit the ball there or see if it was possible, he just stood there amazed
I've seen Rafa watch lobs go over his head before, sometimes the lob is just too good
He probably thought it was going out but it dropped in because of the heavy topspin
nope, sometimes you just get caught by a good lob, happens to all the big 3
Rafa is magic on clay nobody has skill like him on clay ! Absolutely The King of tennis and The God on clay
Rafa is not the King of tennis , he has only won 1 Australian Open and when the best 8 players in the world play the end of season championship HE HAS NEVER WON, so he isn't the King of tennis but I will give you the God of clay !!
I could spendi a lot of time on this BUT it's a circular argument , Rafael Nadal was brought up on clay courts and his dominance on them can't be disputed BUT you cherry picking the end of season as just a money making tournament is ridiculous ALL the players have millions and millions of dollars, and if you had watched the level of Nadal's dejection when he lost to Medvedev you would know he wants to win this BUT because the surface is fast he hasnt so far , Rafa is a great competitor and the greatest CLAY court player of all time but on the faster surfaces at Wimbledon Australian Open and End of season he struggles and cant match the win records of Roger or Djokovic, The French is an anomaly and multiple Grand Slam winners couldnt win it because an all court style wont cut it so Sampras Becker Edberg Rafter McEnroe couldnt win it , for Nadal his weight of Grand slams its just clay they said Sampras wasnt the greatest as he never won the Fernch Rafa cant be the greatest because he always wins the French
@@albims3064 He's the greatest cause he has 20 slams.
Weak era of clay players and free use of PEDs for him only. And there is your "King of tennis" that can't even hit a proper forehand.

Much to my surprise I discovered he is the record holder for fastest serve. By the way he was serving in this match no one could tell that. For trying to outplay Nadal on clay with a serve-volley strategy I can only imagine he was aware of his fate, so he just tried to make it quicker.
He was actually a decent player; took a set off Federer at Wimbledon once. That S & V though is reckless on clay.
Sam Groth is an old school Serve and Volley australian player, i would like to see what Patrick Rafter or Stefan Edberg could do against Nadal on clay...
I would like to see RG 2016 tournament without Rafa's injuries
The Bull of Manacor 💪
At Roland Garros if you play at your absolute best you are assured to lose gracefully against Rafa.

This guy was a double specialist, who just decided not to run against Nadal, there is nothing wrong with that. He was a heavy player, surface was just to slow.
He held world of record of fastest serve 263 kmh. Very nice jumping at the serve indeed.
Well described. Facts that 99% of all tennis players worldwide are looking desperate against Rafa (and Nole too). His appearance, his mindset and intense play makes it looking like that. But it's not fair to give it away. Everyone should fight, even there's Rafa, Roger or Nole on the other side of the net.
He will be legendary If he retires undefeated in RO slam final, I Can't believe that during rafa 13 slam win, that these top player have zero eye of the tiger against rafa at RO, you would think that most players, playing rafa at RO would play until their legs gave out, or heart, and get carried off the court playing against rafa at RG, like its your last match on earth, but the vast majority lose in straight sets, it seems like everyone is there, just to lose to Rafa and collect there're tournament check, no one has the will to beat rafa at RG and it seems like the top players and next Gens, are simply waiting for RAFA to retire, if the next person to win RG have a loss record against raft at RO, many fans will question the fact that, they won but only won due to Rafa retiring.

Roland Garros 2008 QF had same scoreline against Almagro
and almagro hilariously said out loud during the match paraphrasing heavilly here, just give the french open trophy to nadal, he will win forty. he will still win it when he's sixty years old. i think it was danii medvedev who recently shared a post showing a photoshopped sixty year old nadal speaking after winning his fiftieth rolland garros or something, i really want nadal to win some more wimbledons now though. his form at wimbledon has totally come back. he had that five set semi final that nadal should have won against djokovic, which was just as tight as federers five setter again djokovic in last years wimbledon. nadal also made that semi final, so two semis finals in a row at wimbledon, the latter he lost to federer in four sets, which perfectly balanced out federer's loss to rafa at french open weeks before in the semi final, also in four sets. im hoping at least one more wimbledon for nadal, and the french open won before it, so that's the continental slam. french open and wimbledon are the true tennis courts-the two traditional surfaces that both engage unique skill sets. like on clay the only person who willl beat an uninjured now there is a very solid two handed backhand, because nadal targets the backhand of opponents with unrelenting top spin loopy forehands and the lefty serve to the backhand, which tin henman simply called ;the nadal serve to federers backhand' . nadal has done two continental slams-in 2008, and 2010. hes got enough US opens-four. and im not bothered about him being the first player in open era to win at least two of every slam, by winning a second aussie open. the australian slam is nadal's bogey slam. hes always getting injured there. this time his back, he needed pain killer injections againt stan wawrinka in the final. after he got one, he actually bagelled warinka in that set, but theres a limit to the number of pain killer injections you can have, so rafa lost when the pain came back.the most recent aussie open final with federer vs nadal, roger beat rafa in five sets, and roger deserved to win, though it was five sets so score looked close, really a four set win for roger would have reflected the match better. the greatness of borg was winning four continental slams. -five wimbledons in a row and four french opens in a row. rafa managed five french opens in a row, and two continental slams. with eleven grand slams, and the french and wimbledon dominance, and given he retired so early, i put borg much higher on the list of greatest ever. obviously nadal is greatest clay courter of all time by a million miles. while borg's advantage over nadal is his dominance at both the french open and wimbledon, but its not like nadal was bad at wimbledon. he reached three consecutive finals, the third one, beating federer who was still in his prime. had to pull out of title defence nexr year, and won it again in 2010. lost the final in 2011 to djokovic which was the first year and most dominant year of nova's peak which was 2011 to end of 2016. then nadal inexpicably started losing in early rounds until he broke the rot in the last few years. makes me think what could have been, because if nadal had kept grass performance say in 2012 im confident nadal would have beat murray easily, murray can't deal with nadal, and the beat roger in the final.

I don't see something illegal. Just a Nadals's game in Rolland Garros..
Fun FACT: he was playing with pain killers and injection for his injured wrist
What's funny about that? Sadly he has to deal with pain and injuries and played despite the pain almost his whole career. As a young kid his docter said he won't be able to play professional tennis with his feet issues. But he conquered all problems, injuries and pain all those years. And always came back and succeeded on that high level. And never complained about it. Unbelievable. He had to pass 9 grand slams whilst being injured. Just imagine where he could be without those issues. And then look at how injuries stopped amazing pros like Del Potro or Murray f.i.. Rafa is a true warrior and has the heart of a lion.
