As crazy as it sounds the reason we never got that at 8, was because in house shows around late 91 and early 92 the business wasn't there. I listened to Bruce and Conrad talk about it and it is interesting to hear those shows drew less than other Hogan opponents from the 80s.
In 1998 Austin vs Goldberg was the match we all talked about at our lockers. That would've been the hottest and biggest ticket in wrestling history in my opinion.
If Hogan had come over in 2001, as part of the WCW invasion and as the heel leader of the nWo, it might have worked. If both guys are babyfaces, I just don’t see it working out. In ring, they would have no chemistry, Austin can’t feed a Hulk Hogan comeback and Hogan couldn’t work Austin’s pace. On the mic, it would have been a clash of styles. Austin’s promo style wouldn’t compliment babyface Hogan. Just going in as a cold exhibition match, they probably could have sold a lot of tickets, but people probably wouldn’t rewatch it the way they do with Hogan and Rock.
no match would have been bigger than Austin vs Hogan... they are the two biggest draws that we've ever seen, the two biggest wrestlers ever in terms of popularity... neither of those other matches you mentioned would have been bigger

Not so much about it being a great match. The real question is what kind of business it would do? You really think Taker vs Sting is gonna outdraw Austin vs Hogan?
@ never said that, but not mentioning taker vs sting at all is crazy
@@patrickmosley9456 you just wanted an honorable mention. Well let’s just add that to that long list of mentions on that topic
Hulk Hogan vs Steve Austin LITERALLY is the biggest match... There's no question.
The match would have been average at best.
Imagine, if they were able to get all wcw talent for invasion and end it at wm 18, rock vs hogan; austin vs goldberg; dx vs outsiders; taker vs sting. Still have Flair, Jericho, Angle, Eddie, Booker T, etc, plus throw in ECW guys.
Goldberg Vs Austin... And Sting vs Undertaker.
The biggest matches that never happened was WCW vs WWF.
Stupid Turner and his stupid contracts!
And DDP vs Rock.
Vince could've spent some dough and gave us a true Invasion. He would have easily made that money back.
Sting and Taker still could've happened though.. both competed at Mania 31, that was the time to do it if it was ever gonna happen
Delay your gratification vince, do the invasion in 2002. You get rock vs ddp or Hogan, Austin vs goldberg or Hogan, nwo vs classic dx, Sting Vs taker. All you need to do is not embarrass the guys like Booker and DDP when they show up so you don't scare Sting off
@@Onthejazz247 yup it was right there. Portray Booker and DDP very strong as the top guys. But be on the vergr of beating them... then bam! Goldberg appears and joins the invasion. Sting does. Steiner does. The WWF guys seem fd. That could've been one hell of a story.
"That doesn't work for me Brother" - Hulk Hogan
Hogan put over goldberg, he was willing to put rocky over more than he did before they called it in ring. He even put over warrior. Hogan had no problem putting over other top guys.
Ironically it was austin pulling that card & backing outta the match.
i mean, Hogan lost to The Rock, the problem there was Austin.
This made me think of the Steve Austin/Terry Funk brawl from that Shotgun Saturday Night episode. Had me wanting to see that match but we never got it.
Austin v Goldberg
*Austin vs Goldberg* in 98 when the wrestling business was at its peak would have been the biggest! Both Raw and Nitro were doing 5 millions head to head.
Mankind vs Savage in 97 would’ve been great. The promos would’ve been epic. Also Road Warriors vs The Outsiders would’ve been a classic
No
Taker '98 vs. Andre '80
Only other match I can think of would be Austin vs. Goldberg in August/September of '98, before Goldberg started to get stale.
I remember it being debated constantly around that time.
They missed each other by a few years but I got to nominate British Bulldogs vs Steiners.
That would've been a hell of a series of matches.
If austin's career weren't cut short, how would he have fared against cena or orton?
Him against Rapper Cena would have been money
I think Austin Vs Lesnar would have been big. Look at their Smackdown confrontation in 2004.
Austin vs Cena would have been epic, on par with Cena/Punk and Cena/Owens. Orton vs Austin would probably have been pretty disappointing.
Seeing how Angle put them both over and Austin would have probably been done main eventing he'd likely put them over as well. HBK did the same and Austin being of the era that you go out on your back would have been gracious I believe. Even if his neck weren't hurt he'd know 1997-2004 at latest was his run at the top.
Yes. Next question
I think The Rock vs. Shawn Michaels is the biggest match that never happened for match quality
Or Eddie Guerrero vs Bret Hart. Or Bret Hart vs Kurt Angle. Or Dynamite kid vs Eddie Guerrero (probably happened randomly in Japan). Or for sh1ts and giggles Bruiser Brody vs Jon “to stupid for a h” Moxley
@@totallybored5526 Biggest match of all time, dude. Not "Best possible AEW-style match to not have happened in WWE". Dynamite kid vs Eddie isn't drawing... No, it isn't.
Bret vs Angle would have killed it
@totallybored5526 you know what I forgot about that. But to be fair, by the time Kurt Angle was in WWE, Bret was about to if not already out of WWE. Kurt did have a match with Owen Hart, though.
Match quality isn't a real thing.
Taker/sting
I don't think Hogan/Austin would have had the same energy as Hogan/Rock
Biggest in terms of money, absolutely. If they scrapped all the invasion nonsense and spent a year building to Hogan vs Austin for X8 it would’ve been the biggest match ever.
I think in say August 98, Austin v Goldberg was a huge match for the marks.
Hogan v Rock, while not being quite as big than Hogan v Austin on paper, ended up being better in the end. Just because Dwayne and Terry are so similar in personality and got on the same page immediately.
Shilling at 6:33
Top 5 matches (at least in the last 35 years) that could have been huge, but never happened:
1. Stone Cold vs. Hulk Hogan
2. Sting vs. The Undertaker
3. Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock
4. Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle
5. Brock Lesnar vs. Batista
Shawn Vs Eddie. Shawn Vs AJ Styles. Austin Vs Punk.
how crazy is it that Shawn has never been in a match against Rock and neither one of them have ever even talked about it
@@zachary_attackeryRock brought it up at the 2008 HoF
Or HBK vs Rock.
These are “dream matches” they’re discussing, not Frank the Lawyer vs Ricochet that they try to sell weekly as a dream match
Now we need to see Frank the Lawyer vs Steven P. New!
Frank Beast-Mortos, Esq. vs. Trevor Urkel.
_The stuff that pro wrestling history gets forged from._
My personal pick is Ken shamrock vs Kurt angle. UFC champion vs Olympic champion. There were just like a month apart from each other
Austin and Hogan trade blows; rassle, rassle; Austin corners Hogan; Austin stomps a mud hole; Hogan hulks up and points at Austin; rassle, rassle; Austin's in the middle of the ring - the ref is knocked out, Hogan leg drops and roll-up; Hogan goes to pull the ref awake; Austin trips him up; mud hole; Hogan stumbles up and fires back; bodyslam to Austin; Austin's down and Hogan leg drops again; Austin moves; rassle; Austin stunner; pin; kick at 2; Austin beat down; Hulk up; tussle; stunner, stunner, stunner; pin to 3. Handshake; drink beer; camaraderie; stunner.
The 2 biggest matches to never happen both include SCSA. Brock vs SCSA, and Hogan vs SCSA. But somehow, we got to SCSA vs KO, which was awesome.
*Goldberg Vs. SCSA, Cena Vs. SCSA, Punk Vs. SCSA...
Brock vs. SCSA....😂😂😂 What makes that one so great to you?
Brian mentioned how The Midnight Express never wrestled The Hart Foundation nor The British Bulldogs. That reminded me that The Midnight Express never wrestled Kerry and Kevin, even though they were all in WCCW together!
Brock & Batista. I know they wrestled in Ovw but its no reason that they didn't have one match in WWE
It’ll never happen of course. Brock is unlikely to return after he was named in the lawsuit and Batista has zero intent on returning to the ring. He has his acting career.
This may show my age, but Shawn Michaels vs AJ Styles would have been my biggest dream match.
And if I can cross generations, Bruno Sammartino vs Roman Reigns I'd want to see as well.
Taker v Sting
Austin v Hogan
Rock v Shawn
Bret v Angle
Now those are real dream matches and not the shit aew presents
*_Am I the only one that wanted Rock v Hogan?_*
I think Austin v Hogan would've been a clash of styles.
*Austin does the stunner*
*Hogan immediately Hulks up, making Austin look like a chump*
Austin upon seeing hogan no sell the stunner: WHAT?
Austin just Stunners him repeatedly until Hogan says “that works for me brother”.
It would've been shit. Hogan was a terrible wrestler who was marketed as a real life cartoon to kids.
I agree to extent.check out a video Hogan vs .muta in japan.you be surprised what Hogan pulled off.i still think to this day Hogan was CGI.but if real he could pull off moves.check it out
But I think maybe just played it safe during his run in the states.
Flair vs. Hogan when Flair first went to the WWF/WWE. Right around Wrestlemania 8
As crazy as it sounds the reason we never got that at 8, was because in house shows around late 91 and early 92 the business wasn't there. I listened to Bruce and Conrad talk about it and it is interesting to hear those shows drew less than other Hogan opponents from the 80s.
Whoever does the thumbnails does amazing work
Vince McMahon vs. Janel Grant
A shitty match indeed!
Johnny Ace on a Pole match
Vince McMahon vs Ted Turner in a barb wire match
@@philburt781 the drizzling shits!
Gotta go with Sting Taker. The build could’ve been even better than the match.
I always wanted to see Shawn Michaels vs The Rock and we never got it.
The Rock vs Rey Mysterio. The Rock would have carried the promos and Rey the matches.
In 1998 Austin vs Goldberg was the match we all talked about at our lockers. That would've been the hottest and biggest ticket in wrestling history in my opinion.
Glad it never happened
Brody versus Hogan👍💯🇺🇲🫡
Bret vs Angle Taker vs Sting wouldnt hold a candle to the money Austin vs Hogan wouldve generated
The biggest match that never happened was Sting vs The Undertaker.
Both guys would walk out the room after 5 minutes and vince would walk out the window 5 minutes after that
Austin-Goldberg, Bret-Angle, Hardys-Harlem Heat, Dudleys-Road Warriors, R&R Xpr-Heel Hart Foundation, Mid Xpr-Bulldogs, Kerry-Heel 85 Nikita, Eddie-AJ Styles, so many...
Austin vs Goldberg or Sting vs Undertaker in the late 90's probably would have been bigger than Austin vs Hogan
no match would have been bigger than Austin vs Hogan... they are the two biggest draws that we've ever seen, the two biggest wrestlers ever in terms of popularity... neither of those other matches you mentioned would have been bigger
@@DynastyIcon Hogans wasn't even as big of a draw as Goldberg when they were in the same company together.
I mean, we got Hogan vs The Rock which was a far batter match up. At that point you didn't want the better worker in there with Hogan, you wanted the better CHARACTER against Hogan as he was pure character himself.
And by character I don't mean gimmick, I mean personality, charisma and all that which makes a person's overall character.

They wrestled a bunch of times.
It drew so well they cancelled the plans for it.

Goldberg VS Austin 90s I would have paid 100s to see that
Taker and Sting is another one. So is Austin and Punk. My personal dream match probably would have never been possible, but it would have been Angle/Bret.
Prime Bret Hart vs Prime Kurt Angle probably would have been the greatest match ever
If Austin was in the Rock's spot at that WrestleMania, I'd wonder if the crowd would have turned on Austin, the way they did the Rock? 🤔
You never know because Toronto is an odd place as they did a similar thing with Edge, Jerchio, and Batista at Summerslam 04 and that's what pushed Edge to turn heel.
It's possible, but I think Austin would have been able to switch to the heel role as easily as Rock did, as his character was more of a tweener anyway
Goldberg and Austin would've funded a shit ton of yachts and golden toilets.
One coming to mind because I remember one of them said they didn’t want to work with each other:Shawn Michaels vs the Rock. Either in 1997 or 2002
Austin vs Hollywood Hogan specifically would have been interesting. Austin goes over.
When i was a kid i always wanted to see Goldberg against The Undertaker then I grew up and i saw the match, so sometimes it is better than our dream match never happen😂
Austin vs. Goldberg, Goldberg vs. Warrior, Bret vs. Hogan, AJ vs. Punk, many what ifs.
Definitely. And Goldberg vs Austin is right behind it. I remember thinking for sure Goldberg was gonna run in during the Invasion main event to attack 'the old' Austin and cost WWF the match to start their feud. Fuckin Austin himself turned again and I had quit watchin wrestling by the time Goldberg showed up in WWF.
One of the biggest matches that should’ve happened is Sting and Undertaker. It’s still kinda surprising they never got in the ring together.
I think of several I would love to have seen: The Hart Foundation vs. The Midnight Express! Magnum TA vs. Bret Hart! Rick Martel vs. Tully Blanchard! Macho Man Randy Savage vs. Mr. Perfect! Steve Austin vs. Ted DiBiase to name a few.
Yay my question!
I think Hogan vs Flair at Mania 8 would have been big instead of Sid
Hogan Vs Flair was the biggest wrestling match to ever happen. They did it on house shows.
It was supposed to happen at Wrestlemania but Hogan decided to leave WWF due to the steroid scandal after Mania.
So Hogan wouldn't be able to defend the WWF title after Wrestlemania. So Vince did Savage Vs Flair so that Savage could defend the belt after mania.
I personally wish we could’ve gotten Rock vs Orton. I’m not saying it would’ve been the biggest draw but the story is has been there since 2004.
