My friend, back in my high school years, John-Boy was the nighttime drive dee jay at WRJZ, which was a Top 40 station back then - and he was rather fun to listen to; John-Boy even had a weekly competition known as the "Semi Dee Jay of the Week," where one got to be with John-Boy on the air for the Friday night. For the record, I was a "Semi Dee Jay of the Week," back in January 1979.

We've got John Boy and Billy here in Virginia on 96.3 WROV out of Roanoke. I miss more shows like that. Does anyone remember The Don and Mike Show? They started out as morning radio shock jocks out of Washington D.C who eventually left playing music all together. Their run ended around 2008. Both Don and Mike can be found on separate streaming sites.
Corny is right, John Boy and Billy were huge back in the day. But since Mr NEWWWW YORK CITY, Brian Last doesn’t know about anything that happened south of Paramus, he never heard of them.
John Boy and Billy used to play on 96.5 in the Richmond area for over 20 years, before the station kicked them off and replaced them with some local guys. They came back on a new station for a couple of years, but that station didn't last very long, and JB&B once again disappeared from the Richmond airwaves.
John Boy and Billy is some boomer tier comedy lmao. I remember my dad taking me to school and listening to them in the mornings on Rock 101.1 WROQ down here in South Carolina

Phil Hendrie had some hysterical bits on WIOD in Miami and on KFI in LA. Bob Green spent a half hour discussing his plan to go to the Sun with angry listeners.
We got the Bob and Tom Show, in this area, which was the same @#$% over and over again, other than live guests. When I was a kid, the best stuff was Larry Lujak and Little Tommy, on WLS AM Radio, from Chicago. WLS had a massive signal that travelled clear down to deep Southern Illinois (I grew up in Central Illinois); so we could hear it if we were going to my grandparents down south, near the Indiana border, near I-64. One, they had the best music and they also had lots of fun.
Or The Drive Thru could be about wrestling and The Experience about the "mundane" topics. Or the other way around. I'd rather listen to Jim talking about his dog's bowel movements than anything related to AEW.
Phil Hendrie was the king of radio bits. His ability to work listeners randomly changing the station and stumbling across his show and believing what they were hearing as fact is what good pro wrestling used to be.
Honestly, idk if being a comedy radio snob is really a thing but anyone who doesn’t say OnA or even Ron and Fez just flat out don’t know what they’re talking about

Anyone from Colorado old enough to remember might know what I’m talking about.
Rick and Bubba out of Alabama were a lot more entertaining than Jonboy and Billy. Especially the last several years you can not tell if Jonboy and Billy recorded their segments today, yesterday, three weeks ago, with bits from 5 or 10 years ago mixed in to the same broadcast.
The funniest radio bit I ever heard was in Columbus, OH around 2006. It was The Grego Show with Mo and Shannon. They did a bit where they adapted Brokeback Mountain to something.
