I was a heavy line tech at Kia got fed up with the bs and left have been thinking about trying Toyota but was worried I maybe didn’t have all of the tooling to perform day to day jobs there thank you for this video I could probably start tomorrow!
Just remember a master mechanic can do more with a Pittsburgh tool than a rookie can with a Snap On..

its 2021 and I've been a lube tech at jiffy lube for about 7 months while in school and wanted to move up, I ended up just now getting hired at Toyota, the only place i ever wanted to work at. anyway ive been looking for vids to understand what tools i need to be a step ahead you're the only one that popped up and showed me the way and what tools i really needed also great advices for me as an entry level tech! I will definitely be watching your vids more often! thanks! PEACE!
I’m a diesel Mobil mechanic and this is pretty similar to the tools I carry with me other than my sockets and wrenches go up to a bigger size. Great vid!

Yup, that all sounds about right! 👍🏼 That’s the great thing about Toyota, they don’t change too much to where you have to buy so much tools. If you got the basics, you can do a lot of repairs with Toyota’s!

Love this video! I have the same cart in yellow also. As a Lexus and Toyota owner I’ve referenced this a few times, most recently while buying nepros box wrenches in 10,12,14,17,19 sizes. Great idea for storing a big prybar too! I got a 44” mayhew HD and now I finally know where to store it!! Take care brother.
I’m a GM tech, and pretty similar obviously different sizes in sockets and wrenches and some specialty stuff, but super good video. Get some confidence in newer techs and definitely get them excited to do bigger jobs!

I'm at a nissan and kia and it is getting bad. Nissans are poorly designed shitboxes (lots of transmission failures), kias are pretty easy to work on yet they keep screwing us with their warranty program (dropping FRT, asinine recalls/campaigns, so on and so forth). Kia's have pretty poor engines too. About to leave the dealership for a different trade.

Good list. I keep some of my common pliers in the big screwdriver holes and got a stand up rack for the rest. It saves a ton of space

ive been at a Toyota Dealership for about 1,5 years now and i have yet to use a 6mm hex tool, however we use the 7mm all the time, the "bolts" on brake calipers on the Yaris needs a 7mm hex (at least the rear ones, not all of them have the same style for the front). though this may be because i am in Europe, so if there are people here that is watching from Europe that would probably be good to know. Also all the oil-filter "cups" can be ordered from Toyota, they have their own part numbers and are called SSTs (Special Service Tool).
The stupid fucking oil filter access cover on the TRD tundra skid plate takes a 6mm hex.

8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21 is enough to do practically anything on a toyota lol
Cool video man! You’re absolutely right, you don’t need a whole set and also, if you’re like me and just work on your personal Tacoma, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm 19mm, 22mm and 24mm is all i really ever use lol. Awesome video man.

Matco makes a punch for those axel nuts and y’all should have a sst punch I used to use my regularly center punch all the time but it just stopped working ruined a few axles and found out Matco offers a Toyota axle nut punch works flawlessly! Give it a look
As an Audi tech it is mind blowing I would be able to go a single day without 1/4 much less years.
I bet. At BMW I used 1/4 all day. With toyota 3/8 fits almost everywhere

Yes I know will be helpful for many guys out there starting. I know when I started I had a huge stepping stone cuz I have saved prior and done a 15k investment which was great but many might not have that opportunity and some can. Great video brother. God bless
Except from the 12/14mm socket and wrench you are going to use everything showed here! On euro cars most instead of 12/14mm you are going to use 13mm and a lot of E-Torx😁

I'm honestly surprised at how little I need magnets. I bought one and I used it 2 times in almost 3 years.....my coworkers use it more than me🤣🤣
For the most part I use my pocket screwdriver magnet but the bendy ones comes in handy

Hi nick, really like your tool setup and appreciate all your helpful videos. I have a question to ask. So, I'm interning at this auto muffler shop and started roughly 4 months ago. I go 2-3 times a week because I live an hour away from my work. Anyways, What would be the normal internship time because I have to drive 120 miles round trip every time I have work lol. My car hates me.
All depends on the shop. I’ve never done an internship I started working part time at the dealer right after trade school.

What is the best obd Toyota Toyota scanner??
I’ve been a non dealer tech for 10 plus years now and have thought about switching to dealers a couple times.. Toyota would def be one I would consider.. Would I have to start at the bottom being that i’ve never worked for a dealer or for toyota before?? What tips do you have for transitioning over
I think you’ll start at the bottom like passing shop towels to the techs n thinks of that nature

Hey I just started on the lube rack, all the teams fight and try to get each other fired. I only been here for 3 weeks, I have a couple of tools how do I get out of this stuff and into the main shop. I try and sell as much work as possible and I stay to myself and work as efficiently as possible when we have work to do.
It takes time to move up from lube rack just gotta prove your worth day in and day out. Also getting your ASE certs will help

I'm an ambulance mechanic -mostly Fords - and this is pretty similar to what I have in my roll around box.Where did you get that tray in the top of your small box? I have the same one and that tray would be awesome to have.
They look similar to the trays I got from Snap-On. I got them on sale, so it wasn't too bad. I believe I've seen them on Amazon and at harbor freight now.
Does Toyota use 12 or 6 point for their axle nuts?
12point if it’s a factory nut
@@LetsDriftMedia do you use your 12 point on the 6 nuts when you see them? It would be cheaper just to get the 12p when it comes to the axles but I know some vehicles take a lot or torque.

@@LetsDriftMedia appreciate the reassurance. Sometimes that’s all I need! Did my lower ball joint on an 05 tundra at home I was pretty proud of myself. Lifted 6” on 35s so more of a pain in the ass to work on but working on it felt really good at least when I was done so I just wanna have most of what I need for the truck. I think the Axle nut is a 30 but Idr id have to look it up.

Defiantly over time type of thing rather than just going out and buying everything. If your just a c /lubelevel tech no need for EVERY single thing in vid. get what you need as cheap as needed and if you break shit upgrade if you don’t then cool use and abuse save money 👌🏾

Ok I have a serious question can I work with toyota as a apprentice lube express mechanic without work experience after I finish high-school or do I need to go to college for the T-Ten program. I did get certified in high-school but for the student dcx program but I'm not sure if I can apply to work in toyota plz help
Anybody can be a express tech, just walk in and talk to the manager, most Toyota dealerships I’ve been to don’t require anything to be express tech, they will train u

I am glad that I retired from the auto industry aka flat rate and dealerships
The thing with flat rate is the share given to the tech keeps going down as the shop rate goes up. I think it’s a complete waste of time to work that hard and be there all day to end up making less than a burger flipper. I think flat rate should be a 80/20 split for the tech and the shop has plenty of money left to keep a heated roof and insurance. This industry has so many people that are horribly corrupt to their core. I’m a hourly tech and know my place in this mess. I’m here to learn what I need to know in order to do this on my own someday.

Oh man you went to Citrus College! How was it there? I'm *baarely* in the beginning of getting back into cars since I was a kid and I'm looking to attend in a couple years for their T-TEN program but I'm super nervious about making that kind of big decision for myself
It’s a great school and won’t break the bank. I rec citrus if you are unsure about this career path. In case it’s not for you at least you didn’t go 0 grand into debt going to UTI or other expensive trade school
@@LetsDriftMedia Oh for sure! Free tuition for CA residents is basically unheard of. My dad went to UTI and really is disappointed with just about every aspect of it, but the cost most of all - so if im gonna do this I'm really hoping to learn from his mistakes and not spend nearly as much money haha. @@ghoulannabanana no problem. And I didn’t mean citrus college would be free. Total tuition with all costs ends up around 5 grand. Pretty close to free though. I was lucky enough to get financial aid for being in a low income household so I didn’t have to pay anything out of pocket when I went.

Why is 18mm uncommon in sockets and wrenches?
Not uncommon for other brands but this video was for Toyota techs specifically
I disagree on the torque wrench part. As a beginner, if you don't know how tight a nut/bolt is supposed to be (ie, muscle memory from experience on how much turn you give the bolt) you need to use a torque wrench in order to prevent any future mishaps like crossthreading, bolt-stripping, loose bolts or over-tightened bolts (speaking from experience)
You can get a click type pretty cheap & reliable one at Lowes with the Kobalt/Craftsman brand or at Home Depot with the Husky brand. Def cop the 3/8 version, which I've seen them go for around $60.

@@TAC40_ that is how they pay the whole shop. It was also my first offer and I snagged the opportunity and I really don't care to much about the money right now just about getting the knowledge and experience at the flat rate pace.

Any Lowe’s as I got mine but Amazon, Home Depot, Ace hardware, even tool trucks sell them (tool trucks to expensive if you ask me) but anywhere they sell equipment and automotive tools. But again depends on preference. Hope it helps. God bless
I got a similar black organizer from harbor freight. It comes in a 3 pack for about less than 10 dollars if I remember. They are near the storage aisle.
