Normally I would agree with waiting to market, but because of the state of Bungie the game is getting torn apart by the community. It would make sense to show something positive, even if it’s just concept art - to try and distract from all the backlash. I worry if they don’t do anything, by the time they market it could be too late :/

I don't believe trailers anymore. There's been so many games where the trailers were so misleading (and sometimes made for a game that didn't really exist yet in all honesty) that I really don't care that this trailer looks cool. It doesn't say anything useful about the game.

That or get feedback on the game so the actual launch is good, or even if it performs poorly in this state they could cut their loses.

I never really played extraction shooters other than warzone DMZ but i remember it being a fun experience, heart racing at time. I would give marathon a chance especially since we know a big chunk of the crucible team has been working on it. Plus the aesthetic and art direction is cool af

No one gave a shit dead lock existed or was being leak for 4 months till some one with actual clout( The Verge) talked about then out of no where pretend like they cared. Bungie is probably hoping for a big leak from some one with clout to hopefully drive interest in a game the right now doesn’t have much.

There clearly is a lot to work on if Bungie is not willing to show footage. I am incredibly sympathetic to the game dev plight as well as those who are trying to get *something* to publish when again, clearly, there is a lot of dust in the air. I do not envy being in that position - obviously they need to create the best game possible, but when you have people spilling the beans about a hush-hush game that has seen no news beyond previous leaks of position-switching and tumultuousness, in retaliation for being let go in favor of the CEO's 36th luxury car, it is to be expected. In general I think the idea of leaks is lame - I think Liana touched on it well describing how it can kill the surprise and suspense of a project, or lead to unrealistic expectations - but again, that is what is sadly going to come out of a second round of layoffs after one of the most pinnacle expansions in video game history.
Going by what is out there so far, Marathon could try to put itself in the middle between Tarkov and The Hunt Showdown, but that is a very tough spot. If Bungie gets lucky, Marathon could be like how Apex Legends is in between Fortnite and COD Warzone. Outside of that, and the trouble Bungie put themselves in with Destiny 2, its very likely that Marathon could just be completely ignored and forgotten.
you could show gameplay of the Apple game... but then you'd have to go into how Steve Jobs wanted to keep Bungie as a Pixar level studio. They are using Sony money to make it multiplatform game. And on top of it, it never was a multiplayer focused game, it was more narrative focus, and it didn't go on par with System Shock which handled narrative better, instead it was more of an action game but worse than doom. Marathon is very much a 90s game, it's quirky, it's different and there's a small niche audience who worship it on an unreasonable level that expectations can't live up it.
My rule of thumb is if a company is being secretive with actual gameplay or video about an upcoming game…. It means their not convinced its a good product

The art direction and atmosphere of Marathon is amazing. The problem to me is just that I find making it an extraction shooter extremely odd and I don't trust bungie to make anything better than passable these days. I'd rather play one of the old Marathon games or System Shock

It has been heavily backed up that there will be a Sony state of play on the 24th which is where marathon and final shape were revealed last year. So we might see it then.
Sony is keeping their online games at $40 while their single player games at $70+. They can see the trajectory of multiplayer going downhill and their specialty is in single player. Honestly Xbox/PC is where multiplayer thrives and Sony has single player

Everyone who was a master at those things left Bungie over a decade ago. This is the only experience that current Bungie members have, if even that, considering Bungie laid off a lot of their workers.

Either then or at Sony's next State of Play, rumored to be end of this month; potentially among others to boost the ridiculously priced PS5 pro.

No one will give it a chance. The trailer made me go back and play the OG Marathon games and it's made me even sadder. A hero shooter (or not) extraction thing instead of a grandiose storybased game with puzzles is just not it. I actually just want a Marathon remaster at this point tbh
The best thing i can think of for bungie to do is to pivot and make this game a very barebones pvp game. If they could hit that halo 2 pvp nostalgia id pay 40 bucks for a pvp only game that has a map creator mode.
While I'd like to hear more about the game, I don't see why this "need" to for bungie to talk about it. The game will be ready when it's ready. I don't remember which dev was it but they mention how people use this type of "worry" about needing to hear about the upcoming game that just puts unnecessary stress on them and in realty it's just players just wanting to get that hit of newness and nothing more.

Bungie needs to release this game in q4 of this year in early access for 20 bucks on steam. The plan for a full release in q4 2025.

Marathon will be another big flop.
Hey paul im conflicted because i learned of you from SWTs video and decided to come see what you're about. Im also a destiny and marathon fan and i actually really like this video and your opinion. I'm confused as to how you ended up with your opinion of the star wars community since you seem like the type of person that would be in that community. Would love to know more of your opinion on star wars and their recent projects.
The trailer made me go back and play the OG Marathon games and it's made me even sadder. A hero shooter (or not) extraction thing instead of a grandiose storybased game with puzzles is just not it. I actually just want a Marathon remaster at this point tbh
The best thing i can think of for bungie to do is to pivot and make this game a very barebones pvp game. If they could hit that halo 2 pvp nostalgia id pay 40 bucks for a pvp only game that has a map creator mode.

PVE... $40 OK
PVP... $40 NOT OK
While I'd like to hear more about the game, I don't see why this "need" to for bungie to talk about it. The game will be ready when it's ready. I don't remember which dev was it but they mention how people use this type of "worry" about needing to hear about the upcoming game that just puts unnecessary stress on them and in realty it's just players just wanting to get that hit of newness and nothing more.
