I just don’t want my character my runner to be named or a confirmed character. I want to be just another runner and make a name for myself. Not be like Apex.
they are more like different varieties of clones that you can use, there will be customization so you can like make them look more unique, they arent named or confirmed characters, just different kinds of specialized clones that you use
I feel more comfortable with this class-like system for the runners than the 'apex-like hero shooter.' To me, these class archetypes feel more like Destiny 1 and 2 to Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks, more than an apex/overwatch style feel. idk personally I think it can make Marathon stand out a lot more as an extraction shooter compared to Huntshowdown or Tarkov as their competitors, just like how CSGO competes with Valorant, and Fortnite competes with Warzone and Apex, etc. Regardless, I think Marathon can pull it off. They have a strong art direction, rich lore, and history with the previous titles, plus they could take extraction shooters more into the mainstream.
You sounded like me when you said the hero shooter conversation is dumb. Brill and Patch so far give me generic stormtroopers with everyday normal banter about how their job sucks vibe. The tank and medic would probably be the ones I jump between the most. If Bungie can nail 3 main things that they've always excelled at which is gunplay, movement, and atmosphere then Marathon is an instant win for me.
okay that concept art definitely has me thinking it's a class system. same face with different accessories and colors has me thinking you'll have fixed faces that could be tweaked.
As a concept artist, we often use the same model and tweak it to save time. I’m assuming that’s what is happening here rather than it being the same character.
I hope the customisation for the runners is really in-depth. I wonder how they are going to balance armour customisation while still being able to quickly distinguish between classes; maybe it will be strictly colour scheme and accessories, like the pouches.
Plus hero/abilities have already been introduced in extraction games, arguably successfully, in games like Delta Force where the Soldiers have abilities
I have always thought the hero shooter woahs were kinda dumb. I think Bungie, if with all the bad, has earned a certain amount of trust. They've never released an objectively bad game why would they start when bringing back their most internally beloved title?
I think that the oxygen you spawn in with wont last you till extraction, and then everyone is fighting over oxygen drops that everyone knows the location to, as time goes on less drops spawn so making the fighting for resources more intense, you can also kill people and take their oxygen that they have left, it will almost fill the same function as the ring in a BR, but will allow a lot more freedome for stratergy than just reducing the options you have and being forced to fight. Also the oxygen mechanic could make this great in terms of fighting will require sprinting ect so has high risk/reward as youll burn oxygen faster. I hope this is along the lines of what they go for.
