Piracy is a service issue. Until these greedy companies stop removing shows and cancelling movies for tax write offs, pirate the shit out of everything. Also try to encourage physical media to make a comeback, so that even if they continue to remove shows in the future, they can never remove what you own yourself.

I mean, that's not really a reason why it's cruel. The animators and writers were paid to do a job and they did it. Them having worked hard on something they've already been compensated for means that neither they nor their employers are entitled to anything further, including having their show be made available. Once they've been paid, it's no longer any of the production staff's business what happens with it.
Still dumb to remove them, though.

I had no idea MAX removed so much animation. I just finished watching all of Regular Show on it for the first time not too long ago, and my gosh, what a masterpiece of an animated series. To know now that you can’t stream it there is really disheartening (and ironically something Regular Show itself commentated on at the time, streaming vs. physical media. The writing has always been on the wall).
It’s to the point where it’s hard for me to even call this corporate greed, because…wouldn’t they be making *more* money by having more animated series that people care about??? So by taking it off, isn’t it actively bad for them, because now there isn’t as big of a draw? What is actually the point in removing such successful and beloved series? It’s just asinine.

Streaming has just become old-school TV. When I was young (a million years ago), I realized that TV networks sucked. Some shows would air for a month and then get yanked with 9 unaired episodes that would never see the light of day; others would air for a year or two, and then vanish into oblivion -- and TV almost never got home media releases until the DVD boom (though some cartoons got 1 or 2 episode VHS releases in the '90s). So I started videotaping every-friggin-thing I watched. The result was a monstrous video collection, but I was able to preserve tons of programs that were once considered lost media (unfortunately, the tapes were ultimately destroyed by a fire). The studios/networks/streamers only care about what they think might be profitable; it's the fans who keep everything else alive.

*Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart* GONE!
    *Thundercats (2011)* GONE!
    *Sym Bionic Titan* GONE!
    *Son of Zorn* GONE!
    *Close Enough* GONE!
    *The Secret Saturdays* GONE!
    *Nightmare Ned* GONE!
    *Brandy and Mr. Whiskers* GONE!
If you’re lucky, you can find some physical copies of animated shows/movies that were once on streaming platforms. This is one of the reasons why I didn’t get rid of my physical copies. I’m still going to hold onto my physical copies until all media players fade from existence. You can still buy DVD, Blu-ray, 4K players in stores but it won’t be much longer (I say we have about 5 years left). Physical copies of shows, movies, & games are disappearing off shelves, same with all media players.

The series has a lot of potential up to three seasons, and let the creator be able to finale it. Canceling the show and removing it from the streaming service feels disrespected to both fans and the crew of the show. Future serialized shows should be on Disney+ Original right now, and not on Disney Channel anymore.

Multiple factors and parties might be responsible for all of this madness. First, our conservative right wing mainstream society/sophisticated grown adults, parents and Christians think animation is just a kids thing and adults don’t get to watch that kind of thing. And fundamental Christians / satanic panic conspiracy theorists would truth expose an adult cartoon for corrupting little kids and show inappropriate messages and crap even though those cartoons are for adults only and kids had no business watching them anyways and those religious conservatives are overreacting for no good reason. Plus of course, Reaganomics and federal government have corrupted our favorite entertainment companies and take animation for granted and the status quo of the Hollywood business entertainment industry standards and practices and the mainstream public corporate media shareholder investing & advertising overload trying to bark orders at those companies into caring about live action more than animation because it makes money. Also adult society: all they care about is the superhero cinematic universe movies, horror movies and groundbreaking drama movies and stuff. And conservative anti woke people complaining about stuff that is woke nowadays.
These are the reasons I came up with.

The biggest factor I find why cartoons are canceled is something I have dubbed “The SpongeBob Effect”.
In the early 2000’s SpongeBob exploded in popularity and became the benchmark for shows on Nick. If you weren’t as popular, you got your contracted seasons and nothing more. The issue is that Nick only looked at SpongeBob’s popularity after its boom, not the 4-5 seasons leading up to its success. This effect then spread to other networks and became the benchmark for how cartoons should work.
Now since streaming became popular, streaming services have a worse benchmark to compare and that’s the “Viral effect”. If the show doesn’t go viral and stay that way, examples include breaking bad, Dexter, etc then they aren’t worth keeping. Not to mention the giant tax breaks companies get for removing the show from the services and the money they save for not renewing streaming licenses

  • @mseven1361
    @mseven1361 3 місяці тому +4

It's more of an issue with streaming services and the way they are funded. Streaming services give access to large quantities of shows for a low fixed price and allow channels to make use of their archive. 20 years ago when streaming was still in it's infancy and most phone networks couldn't handle video streaming you could get streaming rights for almost free.
In the 2010s Netflix had grown but they became vulnerable because content creators had become the ones "in the driving seat". It was no longer was it a case that Netflix was giving them a small amount for them making use of their archives, Netflix needed content or they would lose subscriptions.
By the 2020s the technology was there for anyone to start a streaming service, however rather than getting paid for their content by a 3rd party streaming service they have to promote their streaming service and pay themselves for their own content before collecting many individual subscription fees every month rather than one lump sum for the streaming rights. It also causes the issue that you can't sell your content to other platforms so easily because super fans of a show will subscribe to the streaming service and watch it on release rather than watching repeats on a liner TV channel who would pay more per episode than a streaming service for multiple different shows would generate. It has become a cycle where without certain programmes streaming services won't get any subscribers but if they don't sell to liner TV channels they won't get the money they need to sustain the production.
Warner Bros Discovery has a lot of debt so they need to get the high lump sums for their rights rather than getting small multiple subscriptions over the month. To make their programmes sellable they need to take them off streaming and on to their channels because they get more money via advertising on their channels and they need to get them off streaming so other TV channels will buy the rights to show them. Streaming and charging a subscription isn't a good business model.

I loved your thoughts on this subject, it's really sad that this is happening to animated shows. Animation is definitely my favorite genre in TV and I hope that one day it comes back strong.

My sister bought me the Final Space graphic novel for my birthday, I can’t wait for the story to be finished. My heart hurts especially for Olan Rogers and how his passion project has been treated by studios.

Just recently Disney’s show’s storyboard artist Gabi Rode had gave people shocking unfortunate news that Marvels moon girl and devil dinosaur had been cancelled after only TWO seasons🤦🏾‍♂️. See that’s the thing about Hollywood multi billion dollar companies keep shooting themselves in the foot for dum decisions while they have other certain properties being brought back as reboots and revivals that they are uncertain to use them.

Man, I love hailey's on it. The vibrant colors, the art style, and the characters are memorable, but the writing was decent for me. I remember when it just released and I actually started to get invested in it. I'm sad to see this get taken off of Disney+ and get cancelled, leaving it on a cliffhanger.

These companies should be legally required to relinquish the rights to these projects back to the creator anytime they cancel a show. There is no reason for them to just sit on the rights and not do anything with it.

Also i feel so bad for modern Cartoon network. They havent had a single original idea in their network and theres also a lack of buzz from their shows. I miss the old days in 2010s when people would talk about Regular show or Gravity falls and w8 for new episodes

Here's my own take on the matter. The only thing the corporate executives and CEOs see are the numbers but there's also the fact that most of them are baby boomers and Gen X'ers that grew up in a time when animation was almost exclusively marketed towards children, hence why they don't take it seriously and don't see it as a legitimate medium or art form like we do.

CEO’s need to respect and credit animators, writers and voice actors for all the hard work they put into their projects. Kids can handle serious storytelling in animation as well. 😊And animation isn’t just for children.
