You're certainly not alone, Bobbie! That look is lush and colorful, like a massive floral display. It does take more maintenance, but it sounds like you have time and enjoy doing it. If you've yet to view it, you'll enjoy my video "Fill Flowerbeds with Rosette Succulents" ua-cam.com/video/0v-fr2RbuKQ/v-deo.html.
I always count on you for stunning photography and clear information. There were some truly gorgeous gardens in your video, and showing the garden bloopers highlighted the need for a bit of thought before planting a succulent garden. Well done!
Superb work Debra from your friend in Australia. Great examples, great commentary. My rambling garden is guilty as charged but every plant is loved. Thank you for opening our eyes to better planning. Is it the fact that because succulents are so slow growing that problems seem to happen right under your nose. Pats garden is just right for as we get older but want to look and tend to our plants no matter our stage of physicality.
Hi Debra, I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying binging your videos. However, I do have a question. What should I do in my rock garden for those empty spaces while awaiting succulents to trail and grow as they mature? I have a variety but left some space within boulders and smaller rocks for future growth. In other words, how do I keep the look of my mature garden while yet leaving space for future growth?
Hi Kimmi -- You might plant succulent ground covers, perhaps one of the many ice plants now coming into bloom. Then edit them as specimen plants mature. See my ice plant video: ua-cam.com/video/2-Fu8MiacjY/v-deo.html. For shady areas, plant fairy crassula: ua-cam.com/video/N58kGeZdtx8/v-deo.html Or topdress bare spots with crushed rock. It makes a new garden look finished right away. ua-cam.com/video/HPIY15X0b20/v-deo.html
Wonderful tutorial on what to do. Learned so much. I'm thinking of planting some desert plants in the ground but thanks for the warnings about Eve's Needles (which I was considering, so pretty but thanks to you dodged a bullet there) and the Americana Agave, oh man, so wrong for my small yard.
Uh oh! I’ve got some “what not to do” items in my yard! Thank you so much for a great video. I have to get busy and pull out my Eve’s Needle. P.S I have two of your books and I need to pick up the third one.
"Mares eat oats and doe's eat oats, and little lambs eat ivy." My dad used to sing that to me. Re spiny cholla and cacti, I'm with you. I still have some in pots, where they can't snag me and I can pick them up and move them if need be. (Gotta show 'em who's in charge.)
Omg 🥰😍 thank you so much Debra for another amazing and excellent content! God bless you always. I love how you explain every detail about landscaping with succulents!! God bless you always and more strength 💖 to you !
@@QueenofSucculents My pleasure dear Debra! I believe we should spread gratitude, kindness and positivity to authors like you who put out excellent content.🥰🙏🏻💕
Hi Louise: An interesting bit of succulent trivia: Echeveria hybridizer Dick Wright sent a lot of his cultivars to Australia back when it was much easier to export/import them. Then his nursery burned down, a terrible loss. Now some of his amazing crosses are ONLY in Australia.
Wow, amazing stuff, thanks so much Debra! Also, random; around 14:50 on the hacienda-themed garden shelf, at the upper left of screen it looks like a llama or a camel pot (?). But there seems to be a heart ornament in front of it. I totally thought (at first glance) that the animal had swollen, Botox fish-lips! Why…? 🤔🤣Haha. I just accepted it at first, like “ah, okay..” As if that’s naturally happening now, in the current populations of camelids in Peru 🇵🇪 or 🇧🇴Bolivia, 🇨🇱Chile, right. 😳Ahh síííí, por supuesto; claro que si! Por qué no?!
Odd that this video has had 21,000 views and nearly 50 comments and no one else has mentioned it. May I respectfully suggest that the problem is on your end?

Thank you, Cherree, always a pleasure to hear from you. Yes, plants don't seem to grow...and then suddenly they're big, ratty and in the wrong place!
As always, beautifully presented with useful information and great photos to illustrate your points. Your videos are inspiring and enjoyable!

Hi SCS, be sure to wear a suit of armor when you "pull out Eve's needle."
I love the colorful softer looking gardens best. Im so glad i never got an eves needle. I cant even stand opuntias anymore.

LOL A mí me parece que está soplando una burbuja de chicle. ¿Seguro Por qué no? ¡Sí, ambos necesitamos café!
and isn't Laura Eubanks amazing!
Which garden did you like best or impressed you the most? Are you guilty of any what-not-to-do's? 😆
Most of the gardens are stunning except for the golden barrels with the stepping stone? It looks like a grave yard 😬🥺
@@Beanfairy Oh no! I suspected not everyone would like it, but that never crossed my mind. Now I'll have to try hard to forget what you said, haha.
the sound quality/ your voice is very unclear.
