- Back in October 2022 we had the privilege to be taken for a drive across one of the largest aircraft boneyards on the planet, the famous storage area at Victorville, Southern California Logistics Airport. On this airfield some real aviation history can be found, as well as some brand new to-be-delivered airframes. This video shows several special aircraft such as two DC-8 Freighters, an L-1011 Tristar, Boeing 737-200, Boeing 727, Boeing 747 and a whole lot of DC-10 and MD-11. Also some Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777s can be seen waiting for their delivery or to be sold to a new owner. This place is a real dream for the real avgeek as it has something for everyone.
The airfield itself is the former military George Air Force Base, which shows as the remnants of the F-4 Phantom shelters are still visible. Sit back, relax and enjoy this unique view on the Airliner Boneyard! For more photos, videos and the entire story, read the blog at www.lama-aviation.com/blog/tr... .

many of those babies look like they just waiting to fly around again , beautiful video, you rock THANK YOU.
I’ve spent many years as a FA for Southwest and while I love new technology and new aircraft, it does make me sad to see so many of our 737-700s and 300s in the junk yard. I remember when I started at SWA, the 737-700 was the new plane and now they are being retired. Time literally flies I guess. Its still my favorite plane to work on. Great range, will fly anyway you load it, sad to know in a few years they will be gone from our fleet!
Is aeroplane breaking and selling their parts a profitable business , on the whole what are outcome after so much investments ?
its really sad. sad to think that in 4 years the 737-700 will be completely gone. the first southwest aircraft i flew on was flown here just yesterday, presumably to be scrapped 💔
It's all about fuel-burn, neglected or upcoming mandatory replacement of many components....and the most important: pressure-cycles, pressurized aircraft have a finite lifespan. Most cases, cheaper to lease/ purchase new/late model used ones. Planes with acceptable time still left in them, converted to freighters, start a new life for new upstart carriers or in developing countries....high maintenance costs, higher-fuel burn is the price to keep older aircraft airworthiness certificates valid.
Me Tio 😢😢😢😢
Southwest is the only airline I will fly. And they only buy American Boeing aircraft
Great video, even greater music 🎉
I see a lot of MD-11s here .. sad . Saw two World Airways planes .. saw them flying over as a kid . The sounds of those engines are iconic .
SO much history & air mileage here 😮
Thanks for just putting music over it and letting us get lost in the sight of so many aircraft. The choice of 70s/80s-style synth music was also somewhat appropriate, considered that was the heyday for many of these jets. A very enjoyable video.
Thank you so much for your kind reaction! This was the intended purpose of this video, glad you enjoyed it!
7:30 Oh look, a rare A340-200!
Yep that's former Aerolineas Argentinas
A lot of the aircraft like the 787’s are lease air frames in short term storage. The a380’s back in service. Victorville has always provided a huge service to the airlines, lease companies and yes, dismantling and scrapping
Hell yeah there's a proper way to store and maintain a extremely large investment such as a aircraft on that level the ones that are dismantled parts are refurbished and certified for sale to carriers based in other countries
A380'S
I was here back in 2009. I got to climb all over these jets like a little kid (30 going on 13 at the time). I sprinted on the wing of a KLM 747-300, went on board a Delta L-1011 (sadly full of bird filth on the interior), there was an olde 747-100 or 200 that just flew in still perfectly intact that we went up in. Got to sit in a steam gage classic! There were some DC-10s and MD-11s about but none as interesting as the old 747s and L-1011.
It is such a sad sight to see all those planes being scrapped. Great video!
Those Emery DC-8s took me by surprise, not a lot left of those trusty old steeds
9995CF was built the same year I was born:1968. Miss those smoky engines
33:10 - United Boeing 747-422, a regular visiter at VHHH Kai Tak international Airport in Hong Kong when i flew her back in 1997. Miss her ... 😥😥
That was fantastic! Put me in a dream world for 42 minutes. Just imagining the places those old planes have been and the many years with the many generations of people. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind reaction! This was the intended purpose of this video, glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video
Heel indrukwekkende beelden. Mooie video van gemaakt zo!
I was stationed at once was George AFB in the late '80s flying the F105 and the F4E Phantom
Wish i could climb up top and remove alot of those antennas.... from the beyond flying one's....great video
Very cool video! (the music in beginning was a little over the top)
No biggie
Love that tristar!
We have one of these, sort of, at Goodyear airport in Arizona. Old airliners are flown there and converted to Fed Ex and other goods carriers, extending their lives. Some people see Goodyear's airport and mistake it for a commercial Int'l airport, but the Phoenix metro area only has two such airports--Sky Harbor downtown, and Williams-Gateway in Mesa, near Chandler, which is serviced by budget airlines and not nearly as active as Sky Harbor, which has non-stops to London and Frankfurt (seasonally).
I did some work in Victorville and have driven by there often but never saw this boneyard. Tuscon, near the Pima Air Museum, has its famous military boneyard. Sad to see these planes, some in early retirement, some deserving of it.
I think walking around there in the pitch black of night time would be kinda freaky
At 36:51 and 37:17 you can see a “Norskfreight” 747-200 which is a fictional airline, meaning that thisnplane was probably the one used on the set of the movie Tenet. Didn’t expect to see it here!
i thought they cut it up after filming
Makes me sad…Especially the Martinair MD-11 from my home country the Netherlands…Great video anyway 👍
Dank je wel! Wij zijn zelf ook Nederlands, het was ook een mooi weerzien met die MD-11s!
I agree, very sad.i spent many years trucking freight for Martinair from ams to lhr.said in the cockpit of their md11s a few times.a cracking airline, sorely missed
I may have loaded and unloaded that CF DC-8, when I worked for Ontario Aircraft Service(OAS) at Sky Harbor in Phoenix in the late 80's
George A. F. B., CA as a member of the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, 1971-1973. I lived 16 miles from Roy Rogers(Leonard Slye) and Dale Evans in Apple Valley, CA.
My uncle lived in Apple Valley. We saw Roy Roger's taking out the garbage one morning! Lol We waved and he waved back. Must've been around 1980.
Will the DETA dc10 get scrapped soon? It’s been there a long while. Looks like they’re taking care of it though
Oh those Martinair MD-11's 😢.
Incredible that in this place there are B787 and A350, which are recent models
probably just in storage i dont think any b787 or a350 are being retired yet
@@notkenneth1624 In this case, B787 and A350 should be in other airport
Surprising you are able to do this. Even the companies that actually pay rent and do work on the airport have been specifically asked to not post video on Social Media of the aircraft in storage/maintenance there. There was an employee who took some video and a operator saw their aircraft on a social media website a few months back and caused a real uproar.... we all got a letter from the airport saying you cant do that and asked we take it down.
Yeah they tell us not to take pics at all.
Makes you/me wonder if we are being complicit in illegal activity. Same with a lot of these other YT'ers who "somehow" get into closed off buildings or amusement parks.
Can a person buy throttle quad Ron’s yokes and the such?
I used to go TDY to old George AFB in the mid to late 80's from Myrtle Beach. Surprised to see the L-1011. Most of those FedEx were the retired MD-10's. The old DC-10's the upgraded to the 2 man flight decks. Those were 2 very rare DC-8-62's also.....very surprised to see those.
Heartbreaking 😢😢😢😢😢
I'm curious, do the airlines maintain ownership of these aircraft or are they sold?
Don’t think that many of these are being scrapped. Often times, Victorville is just a holding area for leased aircraft, and when airlines need a holding area during low-need periods.
Saw a Qantas tail 😮 what's it doing at Victorville?
What's the music for the video? I love it
can you just walk in and look at all the planes or do you have to have a pass to get in there?
Is Alaska flight 31 there?
34:47 was that the Aloha 737 200 that broke up and landed on Maui ?
How do you get super close
Sad video, very good view of the current situation. T235 is in storage or is it a spare part plane?
It looks like she is still in storage, it does not look like she's used as a spare parts plane. Let's hope to see her back in the air sooner or later!
@@LaMaAviation the other one has the same situation... Sounds not good
All new aircrafts parked here
Didn’t expect to see all the 787s parked.
Many are production aircraft that are stored there until they can have their fuselage joins re-shimmed. Once the 6-mth+ rework is done (in CHS or EVT), they can then go through the normal pre-delivery acceptance flights and then delivered to airline customers.
At 29:55 Latham A350 being stored along with the older DC-10s ??????!!!!
This wouldn't happen to be George AFB would it ?
It was decommissioned years ago and I can't think of another place out there with that much room
Yes, it’s actually in Adelanto just west of Victorville
@@larryfreestone6135
Thank you
I used to live nearby in Hesperia
Always loved watching the fighters
Flying overhead
21:19 kangen Cuy ,i miss that's plane ,the maskapai from indonesia
how in the world did you get access to this facility??
Maybe illegally. Lot's of YT channels where they break into off limits buildings, amusement parks, etc...
Great music, but very sad to see such beautiful flying machines stripped, most of them never to fly again.
Hi, we shall be in Calif next kindly let us know if we can visit the Airplane graveyard in Victorville. Thank you !
A couple of Qantas 747 plus an A380 and a Dremliner belonging to Qantas . A Virgin Australia 777 !
I'm surprise to see those A350 from "Latam" park...(23:50) Nice vid!
I think there's an opportunity being missed here, they should offer paid tours in double decker busses around the facility so aviation enthusiasts and people in general can experience up close the beauty of these machines
Myself when I drive around this boneyard I always wish I could go in there and get a better look
I think those LATAM A350's ended up going to DELTA. Only saw 1 L1011 Tristar..Is that the only one left there?? There use to be dozen's of Delta and TWA and ATA Tristar's sitting there..well 20 years ago...
Yeah a ton of Tristars were scrapped because they simply weren't needed anymore for parts. There is only one airworthy Tristar left; Northrop Grumman's L-1011-100 "Stargazer" which will likely be retired soon. But yeah it didn't make sense to keep a bunch of Tristars hanging around when there is only one airworthy Tristar in the world. Sucks, that's by far my favorite aircraft in commercial airliner history.
As a current FedEx Express employee, seeing all the former FedEx Express fleet aircraft sitting in the desert is heartbreaking 💔. I worked on all the aircraft types FedEx operated except the B727, B737, and the B747.
@@1000CalorieSnackPackI wonder who the L1011 flew for shown in this video? Air Canada?
@@Jeff-sp7bg The L1011 seen at 10:51 flew for TAP Air Portugal from 1983 - 2004. It was then purchased by a group called 'The Tristar Experience' in 2004 but then they decided on a different airframe and the sale fell through. Since then, it's been in storage to keep on hand for spare parts.
Even the 787 DREAMLINER LOT POLISH AIRLINES IS HERE.
7:05 Un ex Aerolineas Argentinas y al fondo a la izquiera otro 340 de aerolineas.
Sad to see those Martinair MD-11's there.
İts sad to see 787 and 380 are retired i wish airlines bring them back
Kinda shocked to see Allegiant A320's already retired, let alone a row of mighty Maddogs. Guess they're old enough.
Allegiant leases all their planes usually most nearing their end of life
A350 Latam ? 29:55, Its a new plane!
Sad looking over those Delta 757s. So many hours on those airframes, not sure if cargo conversions would even be cost-effective. Probably going to the shredder.
Un B 727 200. Fedex. Está también ese súper. Avion
They aren’t scrapping all of those 787s right?
All the 787s are stored there.
Those are all brand new planes awaiting delivery.
Yes, Victorville scrapped a total of 28 787-8’s and 3 787-9’s last year according to their filings. I can’t understand why.
@@alyonapetrova694 there aren't any scrapped 87's anywhere. It was news just a few months ago that two 87's were being scrapped for parts and how they were the first.
omg DC-10-30 and MD-11 ,so sad to know they will never fly again.
Maybe they are just stored for better days.
Sad to see the martinair in a sorry state .my blood sweat and toil went into keeping the fleet flying .
At least, they didn't show us the ugly part of that place, where the rest of the airframes are torn apart.
I noticed the company for processing and melting aluminum next to this place.
Looks like nobody's shipping air freight; I know that's not true but a crazy amount of "Slightly Used" airplanes available!
sad to see all those dreamliners in the bone yard.
Most are production aircraft waiting for re-work of their fuselage joins at either CHS or EVT. Once re-work is complete, they can go through the normal pre-delivery acceptance flights and then get delivered to their airline customers.
Interesting stuff but found the obstructed view make me not Finnish video
I saw a Scoot 787! Yes. Okay to scrap that one. It should be ashamed to call itself a Singapore Air subsidiary. In terms of service, it is crap!
Un dc8
Such a sad sight
I can understand keep old planes like 737, 757, 747 and others from models that are still hundreds of them flying for parts. But why keep obsolete ones like DC-8, 707 and others that have no more a single one flying. They should either buy them in a museum or scrap them.
KAANDE VISTARA NAHI DIKHAYA
It all seems very wasteful. Hundreds of new jets being pumped out while these jets sit idle rotting away in the desert.
What an absolute waste of material, no wonder the world is a sick place ,for this is replicted across all fields
All that capital going to waste, wouldn't it have better to have it used building something that doesn't lose it's value so fast like high speed railway
High speed railway? You might as well flush the money down the goddamned toilet.
@@dukeford8893 Tell that to Japan, China, and France
Horrible music !!!!!!

Why the awful background music. It is annoying, distracting and unnecessary

@@LaMaAviationI would just rather hear the sound of the environment you are in but your choice. I won’t be coming back to your channel
@@jameshoyle5918 What environment noise do you expect to hear? The planes are PARKED. All you're going to hear is chatter from the videographer, and no doubt the engine of the car that's driving them along the flightline. You really prefer that?

Boneyard god I hate that term which is often used by the simple minded who can’t find the appropriate English words to describe
But that is why this video can be found by the majority of the people who do not know the official terms ;) I hope you enjoyed the video though.
