- Marana Pinal Airpark 2022 | Tour of Arizona's Airplane Graveyard | TWA 741, NWA 742, SAS A343 etc.
Little history on Pinal Airpark: The airfirld was originally built in 1942 to train soldiers for the ongoing war, WWII. Between '42 and '45, over 10,000 soldiers were trained here including over 2,000 Chinese soldiers. Many barracks, still seen today, held these soldiers. After the war was over, the airfield went dormant for a few decades until, similar to Victorville ( • Victorville Airplane G... ) and Mojave ( • Mojave Airplane Gravey... ), the world needed somewhere to store unneeded aircraft who had been retired. Northwest Airlines was the first airline to store some aircraft here before the TWA 747-100 seen at 7:12 landed here for the last time in October of 1996. Since then, thousands of aircraft have landed here...some leave after long term storage like the the Dream Lifter we saw, whereas some never leave similar to the ANA 742s, NWA 742Fs, the TWA 741, and, due to the pandemic, the SAS A343s. Hope you all enjoy this exclusive tour!
Thank you all for watching.

A wonderful place filled with wonderful airplanes. I've driven past it many times. Thank You
Of course!
That’s impressive a TWA plane is still there.
Amazing! So sad that those planes are not flying anymore :(
Those TWA 747 haven't flown for over 20 years amazed that they haven't been totally scrapped out yet.
When I see these big dismantled planes, which I believe could still fly, it breaks my heart.
I tracked and watched those SAS A340s come in during COVID. They first landed at TUS to clear customs and then made the short hop to Pinal.
Wow. Memories.
I saw the old O'Dool hangar was still there, but it looked like the restaurant and old barracks were mostly gone. Back in the 90's, there were old WWll tanks and planes there that the owner(Evergreen owner) used to buy and restore, then I remember hearing his son died and he stopped buying and restoring them. I saw a lot of cool shit there back in the day...so many low level flyby's, especially 747's, watched a pilot do a high speed engine run on the taxi way when they had just put down fresh asphalt right off to the side of it and he blew chunks of asphalt the size of cars flying, "CIA" crap occasionally in the middle of the night, a lot of crazy parties at the barracks, restaurant and pool, so many bad ass memories there. I was there when a lot of those TWA's, Atlas, and many other of the B747's were flown in to be put in that boneyard. What a shame.
Agreed. A few hangars have been built, but the barracks still stand, abandoned, behind those. Love to hear the cool story. Thanks for watching.
There are so many varieties here...and it is sad that they are not in the sky !
Most are in storage but the others have definitely seen enough of the skies
Amazing footage, would love to see more footage of the ex Virgin Atlantic 747’s! Subbed 😎
True icons of aviation right there.
Thank you very much for this great video. Sad and depressing seeing so many beautiful birds that once flew majestically around the world. I especially liked seeing the TWA 747.
She is still living for the time being, since she was sold to a company that committed to keeping her somewhat preserved. Unfortunately, PlaneTags has cut off much of the tail section for sale. Otherwise, other than her engines, she is fully intact. Thanks for the comment!
I’m late, but great footage! Love the drone shots:)
Was there last week 31/3/2022 on day trip to Tuscon Arizona from Phoenix Arizona... an amazing place and an amazing experience. Great video..
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. Hope to get to more Graveyards soon.
Is it open for public ?

Nice video, my friend. Wish to visit some time.
I just realised, I filmed a video at Pinal 2 days after you!!! Sad to see the planes go, awesome vid!
Thanks! What a coincidence.
This is amazing and never knew it existed even though I have a relative that lives about 30 minutes from it lol. Definitely going to have to visit.
The dream lifter 😍
Nice tunage👌
So being a Canadian, I naturally was curious what became of their 747 Classics. According to Simple Flying, one of their fates is unknown, registerered as C-GAGB. A flickr post claims that C-GAGB was stored here, and I was thinking maybe there's chance the plain white 747 @2:40 could be C-GAGB. Only solution is to look in the interior....
The Cardinals plane is just stored there right in the off season
All these beauties ruled the skies in their heyday. Sad to see them all like this.
Best thing is since then, 6 or so Air Canada Rouge 319s and 320s have returned to service as well as 1 Max Air 747-400 and the Pratt and Whitney 747SP (not on the video) have refused to service. Hope to get closer to the former SAS 340s, Delta 744s and other 747s there!!
This might just be the last place to house former TWA plane(S) apart from the propeller ones like super constellations which are in muesums
I’d agree. I’ve heard it still has the original cabin interior too!
@@XLRSAv the interior is probably super rotten after 20 years of hibernation
@@crazyman1650 I’d agree, however, some photos on the PlaneTags website show it decently intact.
Why no tri-jets featured? There was at least one in the distance, but the same 747s got the bulk of attention.
I understand. Unfortunately the "tour" is only to the same spot each time due to most companies not allowing photography and video (for some reason). From that point, we just test the luck of seeing other aircraft with our zoom lenses. Wish it weren't that way.
@@XLRSAv : Oh, wow, I did not know they put such limitations on what the public can see. Thanks for the response.
I’ve been trying to get a tour there for a while, how did you do it or are you not allowed to say
I am allowed to say, just not the name of the guide. He is the head of Airport OPS and after looking at the website, we were directed to this man. After emailing him, he kindly allowed us to film most of the tour. He’s a cool guy and, though the first bit of video was not perfect and we didn’t see all the aircraft there (this is due to multiple companies who own these parked/scrapped aircraft, some of which do not allow videography) I highly recommend trying got get a tour. I hope to return there in the spring similar to the time of this upload to hopefully get a tour of the rest of the aircraft for more photos and videos! Stay tuned and good luck!
@@XLRSAv thank you for the advice, and an even bigger thank you for showing me that the tours still exist!
Hey out of curiosity was the guys name that gave you the tour was his name Jim?
Yes sir. I didn’t mention it in the video since he’d appreciate if his name were kept private.
@@XLRSAv interesting because he wouldn’t let me film or take pics of any other planes than the ones near the NWA cargo
Do you know why those American Erj-145s are there? Did they retire them early?
I believe most of these were brought to Pinal during the pandemic, and they were never brought back.
Do you know how you got the tour? Me, my mom, and my dad asked for tours but they said, “no”
Most likely because you asked a company there. The key is to get in touch with the gentleman who runs the tours and is willing almost anytime. The companies do not want photography, but all the filming we did was perfect. Good luck and I hope you can get one.
A lot of Norwegian planes, I saw 2 Dreamliners (Norwegian). I wonder why this Dreamlifter is stored
Norwegian was having serious financial problems before and during the pandemic. In an attempt to reorganize they gave their Dreamliners back to their lessors in 2021. It doesn’t really explain why their lessors haven’t done anything with the aircraft though since they’re fairly new.
Theres a Asnett Ausstraila 747 please explore it! The reg is vh inh
I’ll do my best the next time I’m there!
@@XLRSAv also QANTAS 747 planes if possible,thanks
what was the date u were here?
March 22, 2022. Glad you enjoyed.
So how did you get to go inside of the Bone yard area of MJZ?🔥
Can’t give you too much info since many companies within prohibit photography or video of any kind, but if you go to www.airplaneboneyards.com/pinal-airpark-airliner-storage-boneyard.htm and call Christina M. Martinez at (520) 866-6448 or email PinalAirPark@pinalcountyaz.gov for information/tour questions. The restrictions are very high for photography, but the experience is like no other. Good luck finding a tour!
@@XLRSAv Alright I'll check it out after school and sports so I'll check it out for sure though! Do you have a discord?🔥
@@XLRSAv I live Tucson and frequent there to grab pictures of arrivals and departures. I’ve emailed several times and I always get a polite no, “We aren’t currently offering tours at this time, but you are welcome to drive around the perimeter and look”. You’re lucky you got a tour. I noticed you didn’t get any pics of the two 747 SP’s that are parked in the southwest corner, probably a no photo zone. Did you happen to see the Pratt Whitney SP in the hanger? Thx for the video!
@@el-blake-o4766 I did, but unfortunately, it was also off limits. They just started tours again after COVID this month, so you should be able to soon.
@@XLRSAv thx! I’ll try again..
Wow. There really aren't any L1011s to be found anywhere other than Stargazer and the few retired RAF ones left intact.
Most of the USAF are in Davis Monthan, but I’m not sure where the RAF are located.
@@XLRSAv These at KDMA aren't L-1011's but KDC-10 (DC10-based).
@@brambotterman7804 I understand. DMA is where the USAF keeps all it’s retired aircraft. I’m not sure where RAF keeps theirs. Do you happen to know?
@@XLRSAv The RAF L-1011's are/were stored at Bruntingthorpe. Lately, some (or all?) have been scrapped
Interesting to see an engine removed, then just left to sit for years. Why bother in the first place? 🤷🏻♂
Does this company sell parts to the open market? Any contact info?
Mainly the electronics and internal devices common to most planes Boeing ,MD, Airbus etc..
Metal's price going up ? You know where you can have a lot to recycle
I guess so. Fuel price is also rising…
@@XLRSAv Goodbye four engine and three engine wide body planes for that reason.
B737- 800 Sriwijaya air 🇮🇩
Mana?
wat the b767-300 latam airlines
That was Air Canada
@@XLRSAv 1:05
@@todoverso8447 Ohhh. Yea, that was latam.
Dass mit diesem Wirtschaftssystem nicht alles stimmen kann, wird man nach diesem Video wohl nicht mehr bezweifeln können ... !
Ich stimme zu. Vielen Dank fürs Zuschauen. Vielen Dank für Ihren Kommentar.
how do some f these planes look brand new and they just sitting there
idk. they must be very well preserved.

Take one part and look at it! Ask yourself how many man hours it took to fabricate that part, then multiply the millions of other parts to build these planes to wind up in the desert to be scrapped! What a terrible waste of man's lifes energy for what? To do it over AGAIN?
Unfortunately it’s all about money in airlines’ eyes. Also, many of these planes become to inefficient. It is sad and frustre though.
Especially planes 10 years old. Like the A380’s and a340’s and some 747’s a waste
That's why most parts are re-used, prior scrapping the rest...
Wasting time in the junk area so many more cool planes they stay near 4 747-200’s
Will do when I go back.
@@XLRSAv vielleicht kannst du die 747 kaufen und Volee air oder Translantic Airlines machen
