Ginnungagap was the void which existed between Niflheim and Muspelheim, the worlds of ice and fire, before Odin, Víli and Vé created the universe using the corpse of giant Ymir.
The meaning of the adjective “ginnungr” is still debated. Some scholars suggested that it might mean “wide open”.
I know a transcription in runes of such a text doesn’t really have any reason to be, if not as a treat, but yeah…that’s just what it is, bear with me.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.
The lyrics are pronounced as modern Icelandic, instead of using Old Norse pronunciation: e.g. they sing “á” with its Icelandic pronunciation [au], instead of a simple [a:].

There seems to be a general theme in Skáld’s songs that weather is terrifying. I guess in ancient Scandinavia it probably was. Especially if you thought it was caused by Gods.

Yeah, Just consider that the rune Haglaz ᚺ/ᚼ (h) means "hail" (the precipitation) and was the rune associated with misfortune, disgrace and bad luck
@@FlamSparks considering the climate, and the fact that a large majority were sea-faring, i would definitely give credit to why clouds would be called "fierce and rutheess". heavy clouds were always a sign of hard times on the horizon.

Là j'ai cherché partout dans mes cours parce que je savais pas s'il fallait mettre du subjonctif imparfait comme dans la vidéo, s'il fallait obligatoirement le "ne", bref, un gros bordel xD Au final j'ai retenu qu'il fallait toujours la négation après "avant que" et je pense que le subjonctif présent vaut mieux que l'imparfait, je n'ai trouvé aucun exemple de phrase avec "avant que + subjonctif imparfait"... :/ Par contre on peut dire "jusqu'à ce qu'il arrivât" (merci *Amadeus* de m'avoir enseignée le subjonctif imparfait dans ta VF 😄)

@@FlamSparks oh t’inquiète, pour moi aussi 😅 même notre prof d’italien l’autre jour, en plein milieu d’un cours nous a avoué qu’il ne savait pas quand il fallait écrire « demi » et « demie ». Du coup je suis allée vérifier mais sur le moment, j’étais moi-même perdue... (au final si c’est « demi-... » on n’accorde pas, et si c’est « .... et demi » on ajoute un E au féminin) xD

Non ^^ j’ai fini ma licence d’études slaves en juin dernier mais je continue d’apprendre le tchèque parce que ça me plait et que j’aimerais vivre là-bas :) cette année de suis en études de tourisme dans le sud de la France (près de Marseille) et mon école propose des cours d’italien. Et comme je ne sais pas dire non quand on me propose d’apprendre une langue (😶) je me suis inscrite 😂

I'm pretty sure this is meant to be Old Norse and not Icelandic.
This band is French, and the text is not in Icelandic in the first place. Old Norse didn't have the same pronounciation as modern Icelandic.
umm this comes from Snorri Sturlusson 13th century poet from Iceland.....
@@lothos150 Old Norse was precisely in use during the 13th century. Modern Icelandic's pronounciation is very different from Old Norse.
