MSI has been struggling with its X570 motherboard line-up, but the MAG X570 TOMAHAWK Wifi shows that it has learned from its previous mistakes.
MASI delayed the TOMAHAWK launch to redesign ground up and produced what is possible its best motherboard ever.
6 Layered PCB, over powerful and expensive VRM, feature-rich, the MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK shows that MSI has learned its lesson!

how are you this small I don't understand youtube algorithm at all. with this type of quality content ur supposed to at least have like 400-500k+ subscribers. just keep grinding until u make it. and am pretty sure u will
I appreciate that!, thanks S1VX :)
@@Laurentschoice He has commented exactly as i felt. Good explanation and in a way made me happy because i just bought the board online after lot of research. Can you suggest a budget gpu for this? I am building the pc with ryzen 7 2700 which i want to upgrade in late 2021 or 2022 when the newer processors will be price stable.
Tech's best kept secret. I have been watching Laurent for quite sometime and I'm not even looking for a motherboard until DDR5 comes out. He simply is the best motherboard reviewer out there.
The 5600 is really really good . And thanks for the kindest words ever :)
i dont think it has something to do with his hight
Your presentation is godlike for people that don't know what is what on a mobo. You helped a lot and should have a lot more views for this kind of work. Kudos my friend!
5:20 this style of descriptions is great!!! Very much appreciated!
Guessing after all this, this is the best beginner motherboard for rtx 30 series?
dude i just found your yt channel definitely what i was looking for! You're crazy! I can find all the motherboards on your channel!!! THANKS SO MUCH! :DDDDDDDDD
Amazing review! exactly what i was looking for! You got straight to the point and described each part in a way that we can understand. THANK YOU! i hope your channel grows!!!
Nice to see my motherboard featured on your channel. Keep up the great work.
Great job! I’m new to building gaming pcs and your explanations coupled with visuals REALLY helped me understand where things go and what’s important with the upcoming technologies. For example, explaining how the ryzen 2000 vs. 3000/4000 affects the speed and where it affects is absolutely key for newbies like me. Thank you! Subscribed and recommended to others!
Brother I LOVE your honesty!! Much Blessings to the growth of your channel and after 2 days of 8+ hours😅you helped make my decision with this one and Yes i came across a few other of your vids while researching. Thank you!
Dude you rock! I love how animated you become when you get excited...lol! And thank you for explaining things in a way less technically minded people can understand easily.
thanks for the short and concise vid. this gave me more info on the board than anybody at the stores i called or their websites provided. they couldnt even tell me how many phases it had 🤣🤣🤣
youve earned my sub bro! keep it up
Honestly this video is amazing, I have this mobo and I was wondering which USB ports on the io were faster at. He goes over everything in such good detail. Amazing man.
Hi there Laurent! Awesome review and an amazing board with all the performances!!
Informative and stylish. Grate video. This is the first MB review that covers everything you would want to know while have great fun watching though, keep up the good work.
Man, I saw BZ review on this motherboard and I was looking forward so much your review as well. Definetely, now I know where my money needs to be ;). Thanks
I’m new to computers, and just built mine actually and was searching up how to set up the WiFi and stumbled upon this video. I have to say I don’t understand a lot of the computer talk yet but this video is full of so much amazing information and a lot more than I would expect from an already amazing review. Thank you for an this phenomenal review it was so helpful!
Best review of this motherboard I can find! Short, informative and to the point with a light touch of comedy. Love it!
I just bought one of these and this was a super helpful review!! I don't think they will be for sale for very long.
Agreed, used this review to choose the X570 Tomahawk instead of the B550 Tomahawk (which had been on backorder for weeks). Loved getting WiFi 6 included on the board, Pcie 4.0 on both M.2 drives + upper Pcie x16 slot, and particularly 2 USB 3.2 front panel connections (which I needed) as well as the USB-C front panel connector. Price difference between B550 and X570 was not that great considering what the X570 offers.
@@balesjo does either of them have 3.2 Gen 2x2? (20GB) ? And thunderbolt ? Why wouldn’t it be for sale long
I have been researching this board for my upgrade (after 4 years!). Your review has helped cement my choice. I am convinced. Merci!
Hmm you really think this is a good choice? I am thinking of getting a new CPU finally. Maybe a 5900x. I still don't really know what board makes sense. Since I buy PC's for a very long use-time, I do want to make use of PCIe gen 4.0 for some things, and so I want it to be x570. But other than that it's not easy to find what is a good reliable motherboard.
@@lystic9392 I have the same problem as you here, 5900x and not sure on board, I was told the B550 was good for me, but i feel the X570 version which is cheap enough is great!
@@lystic9392 I'm with you 100%. I've been going back and forth on about a dozen different boards. This build will have to last me a long time, too. I used to think a 550 would do it, but after watching so many different vids I decided on 570. This one just seems to be the right one. Good luck on your research :D
Great review! This is the only part I have gotten for a new PC build so far. What is the best combo to add as the sweet spot price to performance for pure gaming? Starting with CPU+GPU 3600+3060, then upg CPU to 3rd gen when released a good sweet spot?
how have you only got 25k subs?! This is surely one of the most underrated tech review channels out there! Thanks for all your hard work
Hey, just found your channel, loving it! I have one question, currently undecided between this and the unify for a 5900x, you think the unify is worth the 100$ difference?
Thank you for the graphics text over the motherboard, very detailed review. And how do you think it compares to the asus tuf x570 plus and aorus x570 pro wifi ?
I am loving your videos and your analysis. This is helping a lot in deciding which one to ultimately go with. However, I am still confused between this and gigabyte aorus pro wifi. Can you please suggest which one to go with?
I see this board has better VRM but missing RGB and hybrid fan connectors and look wise I like gigabyte more. What other major points would you consider between these two?
This man deserves 1 million subscribers, simple, knowledgeable, and comedic. Well done sir👍
In 2019 when the x570 boards came out MSI ran a huge marketing campaign for buyers. Evidently why they all had 5 star ratings within weeks of the initial release. I choose to go with an ASROCK Extreme 4 x570 which was a pretty board for leds, however even though the manufacturer website claimed my G Skill 3600 ram was compatible the board on some random startups would reset the clock and reconfigure the board to default settings.
I replaced the Extreme 4 with this board Mag Tomahawk.....Posted on first boot listed the hardware it found and asked to load defaults or go into setup. I choose defaults and it booted directly into windows. 10...Remarkable board since I now have wifi and bluetooth (by the way the bluetooth and wifi are great) and my 3600 ram was recognized immediately upon turning on xmp. The only issue with the board change was Windows was deactivated but I used the key from my 2009 windows xp that was upgraded to win 7 and then win 10 and Microsoft took a while to activate but accepted the key. I was ready to reinstall win10.
A great review of a board that I'm looking forward to fitting into my first AMD build this weekend. Thanks for putting this together, much appreciated..
I echo the sentiments here, really great video, high quality stuff my friend. will follow your future stuff
I just found your channel and having fun going through your motherboard reviews. Will you be looking at the Asus TUF x570-Pro wifi motherboard? Trying to decide between that or the Tomahawk.
Now that u mention it... I will ;)
EXACTLY MY QUESTION!
I have watched a few times your review of this motherboard... it's a good review with style... your own style... the one that makes one to want to listen and watch it a few times... thanks for the way you explain the strengths and weaknesses of this product...
Ive just bought this board thanks for helping me decide ☺️, do I need to remove the plastic protector on the second m.2 slot if Im not using an SSD in that slot?
Hands down Laurent, you got a new subscriber...you really should have 100000 views per video! In my apinion you are better then most of the big guys on you tube! Thanks for your work...MERCI
could you list all the x570 mb that you like in chronological order? from the the best to the worst? Thanks
Great info! Just curious, noticed that the NVME slots are different sizes, and I was not aware of this prior, but I want to get the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SSDs, 2 of them, but will they both fit in those 2 slots or do I need to find one smaller then the other? thanks! :)
Thanks ☺️
Am glad to find your channel again 💯
Very informative video, thank you for the effort you put into it!
Laurent, what would you get if you had to choose between B550 Strix F and X570 Tomahawk, the strix is 20$ cheaper, has alc v1220 and the msi has v1200, this is one of the things on my mind, as well as the msi has realtek lan against the Intel on the Strix, so the strix wins in these, but also lacks type C on the board and pcie gen 4 on the second m2 slot, my main concern is the audio really, if you could feel any big difference between the alc 1220 and the 1200 I may go for the Asus board, what do you think
Hi laurent.. this x570 tomahawk or aorus pro wifi? Love your video and your accent..
x570 tomahawk vs x570 unify, which would you recommend ?
Amazing review. I'm lucky to find your channel!! subscribed!
Awesome video freind! I was looking for information on this board and you went directly into the specifics I was trying to find out. I just bought this motherboard along side an SN 850 WD M.2 Gen 4 SSD and cant wait to take advantage of those high gen 4 ssd speeds with my Ryzen 3700x.
Great combination!!!!
I’m building a new pc with Ryzen 3900 and MSi 2080 ti gaming x Trio should I get this board or the MSi unify x570 ? And really good video btw
Hi Monsieur Laurent, which is better of these 3: unify vs tomahawk Vs strix gaming-e? Merci
About the RAM, I notice you selected 4 stick, I was wondering because of the daisy chain topology it would be better to have 2 sticks?
(2x16 vs 4x8, assuming same speed, timing and F/M-clock of 1800)
So the more sticks ull put on, the lower the memory support will go.
If u go with a single stick ull go as high as 5ghz, if u go with 4 sticks, lucky u if u reach 3600.
Now, 64gb of ram @3600 is much MUCH faster than 32gb ram @4000 or 16gb @5000.
Hope this helps.
so do you think this is a better choice than the Gigabyte Aorus X570 Pro or Aorus X570 Ultra ? features and value wise ?
what would you recommend the rog strix x570e, the arous pro wifi x570, or the asus b550e
Excellent video! Thank you for the review, helped me A LOT!
glad i did :)
Yes here you are. Another great review
I love it ....
One of the best Mobo reviewers in YT! I was looking for this vid but forgot your name and found you again, better subscribe..lol
Actually a good video with some great details, subscribed.
how would this compare with the B550 Asus Strix gaming f, in terms of quality and overclocking stability? I don't care about the features, just mainly interested in running a x5900 1:1 with DDR3 4000mhz..
any words on the used chipsetfan, like you did in your msi gaming edge video? would be nice to know if msi spared some bucks here or used a good 'double ball bearing' 60k h rated (marketing blabal for todays min quality standard) fan.
How is the audio on this board? Should I buy a DAC or soundcard?
Someone is selling it local for 210 brand new seal should I go for it?
Hello sir just a question, I think the Audio info you gave might be a mistake.. It’s not ALC1220 but it’s ALC1200? Cause i have this motherboard myself and I checked all the specs and it says ALC1200.. My question is if you could help me out can it support Audiophile Headphones with 150 ohm impedance? Or Do i need to get a Dac Amp? Thanks sir
I enjoy this so much, I would love to see more reviews of all things 👍🏻
Is it worth purchasing over the ASUS ROG STRIX B550-E GAMING?
Does the m2 slots use the sata III, 3 FIN CONNECTION 2 smalls, 1 large. Or the standard 1 large and 1 small fin connection?
Just FYI, at about 5:30 your video indicates that both M.2 slots support 64G/bs (s/b "Gb/s"). However, the MSI website specification details for this board indicates that the M.2 Slot 2 will only support SATA 6Gb/s transfer rate. Slot 2 M.2 uses the chipset PCIe lanes; whereas the slot 1 M.2 uses processor PCIe lanes.
Thanks for this. But after testing both M.2 SSD slots, i can confirm that they are both running on 4 Pcie standard.
If you go on the specification page (details) of the Tomahawk site, it also details that both M.2ssds are PCIe 4.0 enabled.
I hope this helps :)
@@Laurentschoice Ahh, that's good to know. I recall that some were having difficulties I believe from the original PCB revision and configuring their M.2. Appreciate the video by the way 👍.
Hello Laurent
I try find the best motherboard for my ryzen 9 5590x is to gaming and 3d
design software (autocad, solidworks)
Do you thing this one is good for that?
Do you have another best sugestion ?
Thank you
Do you know if this motherboard will fit inside a phanteks p500a case? This case says it's for e-atx while this motherboard is only atx, but ik most atx boards will fit inside an e-atx case and I wanna be able to fit a noctua nh-d15 fan inside
Which one should i buy this one or b550 asus strix gaming E ?
My case comes with two 3.0 USB cables would I be able to connect them both to this motherboard?
does the frozr heatsink design just spins when the motherboard is very hot? how can I figure out if this is working?
Gonna replace my board (x570 aorus master) it keeps getting this cold boot issue that gigabyte could not fix. On another note, I really like how knowledgeable you are but also keep it simple terms? Keep up the good work!
In terms of performance, the msi mag x570 tomahawk WiFi is better than gigabyte x570 aorus elite?
Is possibly to replace wifi 6 AX200 module on motherboard X570 Tomahawk ? I have a problem after instaling official driver (code 10) on WIndows 10 and don't know what to do.
Hi
I'm currently building a new PC, I have chosen the Ryzen 7 3800x and a 2070S.
Now I find myself searching the internet doing research on motherboards. Anyway, I'm curious about your opinion should I go with the MAG x570 Tomahawk or a Aorus x570 Pro or Elite.
Please in need of desperate help!
thank you very much for the detailed review especially the power delivery stage , I loved it. I have already seen this last year , but now thinking of upgrading from my intel i7 6700K processor to Ryzon 5600x, so thinking of this MB, is this still the best in this range ?
Absolutely
Thank you for ensuring I made the right choice as my upgrade! I was sold on it anyways but you've sold me more :D
Keep the reviews coming!
I'm sold on the board but can't find it at these prices. $279 at Amazon. The video's I've seen is talking from $179-$220.
may i ask sir? is this motherboard can fit to a middle tower case fantech CG71?
Which one is better the asus rog X570 e gaming or the X570 tomahawk ???
Tomahawk mag x570 or asus x570 E? I can't decide between the 2
You deserve so much more. the way u make us so easy to understand.
stay safe..
I have a Ryzen 3800XT, does this board support it natively or do I need to flash the bios in order to even use the board with my processor?
Hi, I'm planning to get a pc build that can be upgraded in the next 4-6 years and I decided on getting the B550 Tomahawk. In my country the X570 Tomahawk WiFi is 40 dollars more than the B550 Tomahawk. Should I get the X570? Thanks!
Salut.
Elle est très demandée. Sa version B550 est pratiquement identique. C est une très bonne option .
What should I buy x570 gaming edge or this for R5 5600?
What are those headers between the second M.2 slot and system fan headers?
Really good review. I've subscribed. Good work.
@ 9:43 MSI's fan headers is something which worried me because my current board has 4-pin fan headers but the fourth pin is inactive (very sneaky) and is voltage controlled rather than PWM. But when looking up the manual for the Tomahawk, it says that the fan headers can be switched between PWM and DC in bios, so does this not technically make them hybrid fan headers, albeit not auto detecting?
If you go to Page 36 in the manual here you can see what I mean: download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/mb/E7C84v1.1.pdf
can i use amd ryzen 6 2600 processor on this motherboard? or is it overkill? i have a stock MSI MAG x570 which i think future proof but i want to buy the zen 4's amd later in the future so for now ill just go with the generic 2600 amd. Is it compatible? possible? abusive?
Hey, im currently gonna get a new pc and the only part missing is the motherboard, im gonna get a ryzen 7 3700x, which board would u guys recommend, the b550 gaming carbon wifi (210€) , or the x570 tomahawk wifi (230€)?
love your video. Amazing details
Great review. I wish I could find this motherboard to buy. How did you learn so much about electronics? What is your background? Could you update your "about" section in your channel with this info? Like someone said below, you have great content and I think you will be a huge success on youtube if you can keep putting out the great content.
8:51 the audio codec is an ALC1200 not an ALC1220
Thank you for that video. Good job as usual
Is this will be good for 5900x not overclocked using for gaming?
Great review, thanks!
Will there be a problem if you put Ryzen gen 3 processor and NVME gen 3 SSD? Thanks!
C'est rare une chaine tenu par un français qui connais aussi bien son sujet qui plus est en anglais ! Continue comme ça t'es génial !
I like your in depth reviews! Keep it up! Anyway, does this board can run 4400 ram?
Did you ever find an answer? I'm trying to figure out is x570 tomahawk enough for easily getting 3800cl14 or should i go unify? Chip is 5950x.
Hi Laurent! I am having a hard time choosing between the x570 tomahawk, x570 rog strix e, and the x570 msi unify. Ignoring the features, from a quality, durability, and circuitry point of view, which one would you recommend? I know the last 2 are more expensive. I will be pairing the board I choose with a 3900x. Thanks!
Unify:)... no doubt . Been torturing that thing now stop for almost a year... Good as first day !
Neither! the best choice at the moment is the Asus TUF GAMING X570-PRO (WI-FI) in the U.K. at around £190
Great video man! I'm not worried about hdmi 1.4 as I will put a cheap 8gb rx 580 in that will be good until pcie 4 graphics cards are mainstream.
Can someone please tell me which MB is a better option? This one or the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI)? I really can't decide
i fully agree with the video output being total letdown
lack of DisplayPort 2.0 (in-dev 2016 finalized 2019, cheaper than HDMI 1.4b)
lack HDMI 2.1 (released 2017 btw.)
(i hope MSI cut all this year bonuses of person responsible for this decision)
Hey dude can you help me should I go with this mobo or the asus gaming tuf x570 pro WiFi not plus pro
What ram for you advise? (No low budget )
