Just bought two of these open box. Pretty chunky boards, quite heavy. Both installed without issue one with a 5600x/6700xt and the other a 5800x/6600xt both installed in Silverstone GD09 Media PC cases. Also found a brand new Asus Tuf X570 for $80 locally and sold a B450 for $80. One of the X570S Tomahawks has a small scratch in the corner so I asked for a small partial refund. To my surprise it brought the total price down to $86.09 total. The 2nd one cost me $116.50 total. I should be able to get $80 for my Tomahawk B450 and $60 for my Gaming plus B450. So likely around $62.59 total to upgrade two old B450 to these X570S Tomahawks. I simply wanted Gen4 for the 6600XT 8x cards I have plenty of and for the 2+ Gen4 M2 slots.

I got this last December I went with this because I needed on board wifi that's good and2 nvme slots that don't turn off sata ports when used it's been great since I've had it.
I love that PS/2 port, it's going to make Windows 7 install soooo much easier. Probably the main reason I'm buying it. I don't use a PS2 mouse normally, but before you get those Windows USB drivers installed, you need it to do ANYTHIGN at all in the BIOS or during a WIndows Install. Because ... no usb keyboards or mice detected...
What I miss on this is a dual 7 segment HEX LED to tell me BIOS post code errors. I always wanted one of those so I'd bedisappointed to still nto get one of those. It needs more rear USB ports and a second ethernet port (you'd be surprised how often they get fried out on devices). The thing is, how much do I want to pay for used obsolete junk in 2023? Is this still worth $150. Maybe $100? I don't know I'm thinking $75-$100ish, what do you think.
Glad to see the only real complaint was the price point, I'm putting together my build next week and went with this mobo, that being said instead of the $290 at the time of making this, It's now roughly 220-230 new before tax which is what I paid for mine which after watching seems like an appropriate price point.
Im going to get this motherboard combo with the ryzen 5 5600x. This is going to be my very first pc build ever. Im not a pc gamer or pc guy in general but im going to build one just for the fun of it.
great video. im about to build a new PC and I know this gen is over but it also seems like a great time to build a LOT of PC for a good value. this x570s and its b550 counterpart are only $20 apart brand new here in Canada right now, $260 and $280 CAD. Think Im just gonna go for the x570s. Plan is to have enough power to carry mea few years instead of being an early adopter paying a premium on the latest and greatest (and bug ridden lol)

Question, if I use a PCEix16 card in slot 1 as well as a PCIe4 NVME in slot 1 of M2, that takes away 4 lanes from the GPU doesn't it?

Probably the wrong video for this question but I want to go from my b550 tomahawk to the asus dark hero. Is it worth it? I built my brothers pc using a b550 board from asus and really liked it. Since the dark hero is a part of the x570s series with the passive cooling I really wanna give it a shot. Thoughts?

With a 5000D airflow from Corsair and a 360 cooled on top 3 fans on front and one in the back. Do you think that that's enough of do a need 3 more for the side?
I own both and I really like my new to me X570S Tomahawks. Heavy board compared to the Asus X570 Tuf / Prime boards I also have in the house. Big factor for me is the lack of chipset fan which I don't really want to hassle with someday. And Asus put their chipset fans directly behind the GPU so possible it is getting heavily air restricted. Unlike MSI, Asrock, Gigabyte which I own some of their X570 as well. Also another issue for me is dust build up for 1 of my 24/7 systems. The MSI and Gigabyte at least allows for a fanless mode where the Asus TUF and Prime boards have zero control over the fan. I still would strive for X570S board with no chipset fan. These are the boards I have currently built in the house. MSI X570S Edge Plus Wifi (fanless) MSI X570S Tomahawk Wifi (fanless) x2 Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite w/ fan but software controlled and away from GPU MSI X570 Gaming Plus w/ fan but software controlled and away from GPU Asus X570 Tuf w/ fan no software fan control and GPU blocks this fan Asus X570-P Prime w/ fan no software fan control and GPU blocks this fan X2

From what I can tell they're basically the same thing (mostly) with same speeds. Go figure. Marketing?? If you use the 1x PCIE ports does that drop the speed of the second NVME port? Can't find this info anywhere but have read it is an issue with some other X570s boards. Great review otherwise, answered a few questions I had about the S version of the board.

Below excerpt from the manual ** The PCIe x1 slot and onboard Wi-Fi module share the same bandwidth, you can not use both of them simultaneously, and the default setting is the Wi-Fi module for the system. Please disable the Onboard Wi-Fi Module Control in BIOS if you want to use the PCIe x1 slot. This means you can't run your video card in PCIe x1 Slot if you want Wi-Fi as well? Ummmm I think I mis-read?

same old same ,but new lol. I've got the first version of this and it works well so far but be sure i won't buy the x570s version just for passive cooling and a newer hdmi port version that i will never use since i don't have a 5000g apu and my 3600 works well and about the same or sometimes better than the 5600g in my setup. i don't see why i should care except for troubleshooting and i don't see the point of troubleshooting at high resolutions like 4k lol be sure won't spend more money on a am4 motherboard unless it dies of natural causes from old age or when the new stuff from amd like am5 (or whathevername it ends up with), ddr5, pci-e 5.0, etc...will have matured enough for me to switch. for an apu build i would rather recommend the cheaper but good alternative of the asus prime b550m-a wifi since it has built-in in the bios some boost features for easy oc withouth any software the igpu like the 5600g up to 2200mhz.
but sounds like ur situation is u bought the first revision that came with the chipset fan cooler. so u dont have to buy this passive cooled version since there isn't enuff to justify it. but for someone like me, who is upgrading an ivy bridge, i can go ahead get the new refresh for the motherboard since i'm coming from a very old machine. but then like laurent's arguement, at this point in time there is the alder lake launch, so would u really want to get a ryzen system at this point in time?

be careful with the strip wifi II. I had it and there are issues with it connecting with the LAN and wifi drivers. Upon researching, i found out that this has been an ongoing issue with asus. I didn’t have the time to try and fix it so I replaced it with the msi x570s.

Well...its a more powerful board for sure and has some really nice updates on the both IO and the VRM (compared to the TUF x570 that is). It also has a much more efficient cooling solution all around.

It's my pick. But Not much worth it. It's expensive compared to x570 Tomahawk, and even more expensive in my place. The only way to justify it's pricing is by comparing it to Trash x570 gaming carbon wifi.
The cards are easily swapped anyways I upgraded my X570 to from AX200 to AX210 with no problems. There may be some Intel exclusive features that aren't available on the B550 but nothing anyone should miss

Depends what you're using now and what you're missing. X570S if you want the latest features and 2 PCIe 4.0 16x slots for fast boot and secondary NVMEs. B550 if you don't need 2 fast PCIe 4.0 slots for 2 fast NVMEs... or pretty much any board, new or used, now that you can use Ryzen 5000 cpus on pretty much any AM4 motherboard. If you want to use your existing RAM or need new RAM, check the QVL lists issued by the RAM manufacturers (they seem slightly more up to date than the mobo manufacturers). Granted, many RAM not featured in a QVL list may work but it saves potential problems. It's quite a bit more complicated than what I've offered to pick the right board but it's a place to start unless you have an unlimited budget in which case just get the most expensive board at a dealer you trust! :)

be careful with the strip wifi II. I had it and there are issues with it connecting with the LAN and wifi drivers. Upon researching, i found out that this has been an ongoing issue with asus. I didn’t have the time to try and fix it so I replaced it with the msi x570s.

Well...its a more powerful board for sure and has some really nice updates on the both IO and the VRM (compared to the TUF x570 that is).
It also has a much more efficient cooling solution all around.

It's my pick. But Not much worth it. It's expensive compared to x570 Tomahawk, and even more expensive in my place. The only way to justify it's pricing is by comparing it to Trash x570 gaming carbon wifi.

The B550 version has Realtek wifi, while X570S has Intel wifi for anyone who cares about that difference
The cards are easily swapped anyways I upgraded my X570 to from AX200 to AX210 with no problems. There may be some Intel exclusive features that aren't available on the B550 but nothing anyone should miss

Can anyone recommend a motherboard for me? ( AMD Ryzen™ 9 5950X )
Depends what you're using now and what you're missing. X570S if you want the latest features and 2 PCIe 4.0 16x slots for fast boot and secondary NVMEs. B550 if you don't need 2 fast PCIe 4.0 slots for 2 fast NVMEs... or pretty much any board, new or used, now that you can use Ryzen 5000 cpus on pretty much any AM4 motherboard. If you want to use your existing RAM or need new RAM, check the QVL lists issued by the RAM manufacturers (they seem slightly more up to date than the mobo manufacturers). Granted, many RAM not featured in a QVL list may work but it saves potential problems. It's quite a bit more complicated than what I've offered to pick the right board but it's a place to start unless you have an unlimited budget in which case just get the most expensive board at a dealer you trust! :)
