The second movie wasn’t bad at all in my opinion. The general effects were good and the cgi wasn’t over used. The 3rd movie was a let down but i still liked the action.

agreed. I'm no genius when it comes to war tactics but trenches and bunkers so close and tight together doesn't sound good against a close range bug swarm army. their defense should have at least been spread out more.

as many flaws this movie had, one cannot deny how badass Rico was. proved he was battle-hardened after all those years of service. despite the overwhelming numbers he managed his squad well and even managed to push them back, where others simply ran.
The first one had five times the budget, and that's even without adjusting for 11 years of price growth/inflation. The first film was a full on A-movie blockbuster, one of the most expensive movies shot. It also relied heavily on models and practical effects, with CGI only used where needed.
I love how despite the fact Carmen had been ahead of Rico in ranks all through ST1 by the end of the ST franchise he was a General and she was still a Captain.
@@Hunt8rJob That makes sense, there are military personnel that do prefer whatever position they are in for various reasons. For example, I bet a fair amount would not like to be promoted to a position that has them be behind a desk more than anything.

The bugs in this one are a little scarier because they are showing an evolution in tactics. Bomb bugs, scorpions, 1 lethal strike vs ripping apart people like in the first movie. And a general who was more worthless for his rank than the Lt. in the second movie, the one with glasses.

Nov. 19, 2021----In mass attacks like this in close quarters, a flame thrower should work very well. Which is why I'll be using one in one of my 1/35 scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas.
The only trouble with a flammerthrower is that the target needs to burn for a bit since with Zombies they are dead so they won't thrash around like a normal living creature would.

Those are Morita Mk5's. Most advanced energy charged gas powered rifle they have. They got stingy with the ammo and Tiger bugs are more damage resistant than standard warrior bugs.

So no elevated positions to defend from. The walls and barriers are only slightly above ground level with nothing separating the inside ramp from the compound. No close range weapons. Have I missed anything?
Nah, you're just seeing incompetence at work! Which tbh isn't that far fetched. There is no such thing as a perfect military that makes no mistakes on any level.
From what I remember of the film (It's been a while) the in universe explanation is the combat has devolved into essentially artillery duels between the humans and the bugs. Anything above ground gets blasted while the positions haven't moved in ages. RL explanation, the film had a VERY limited budget. The trenches were built like that so the components could be easily and cheaply reconfigured for different shots. There is a scene where Rico see the marauder suits for the first time, the effect was done by shining bright lights on to cardboard cut outs to mimic the shadows (The film didn't have the money to do the shot otherwise).
This is how i would rank the starship troopers films - First live action Film (starship troopers 1997) -Animated film (starship troopers: invasion 2012) -Animated film (Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars 2017) any other film that is not on this list, does not exist.

If the ammo was either slugs, or tungsten flechette rounds with diamond tips. Actually, as slow firing as the rail-gun rifles were from the second movie, they were however far more powerful. Just a couple of shots from a single trooper could rapidly kill a bug or blow off limbs in a pair of shots at minimum. Granted I would want full auto, but I would take extreme semi-auto power in semi if that was an option.

Plus, in the first movie there's a scene with NPH which shows they can be killed easily with only a few bullets rather than an entire magazine, if only shot at the right place which most soldier's don't know how to do.

I can't see a reason why they would create a underground base, because bugs are far better than us in terms of speed, mobility, agility and etc. Trenches, holes and small hills mean nothing to them. This means foot soldiers can be attacked in any possible direction and angle.
Honestly I love to admit that the female soldier that's screaming that she is out of ammo is actually pretty cute before the bug had bitten her in half ❤.
Pretty sure the quick close ups of the gun barrels firing are shots taken from the first movie. They haven’t even been colour graded properly to match ST3

Well the 2nd movie had about a thurd of the budget that THIS movie had, yet bugs actually look amazing in that movie and they actually take damage.
The bugs at this point have evolved to have thicker armour, shotguns and flame throwers don't work, mines would not be good in the trenches your soldiers are walking in, hand held lasers are not really a thing in the film's universe, same for drone strikes. Remember the age and very limited budget of the film.
That base design was horrible. A bunker system on a world where your enemies are mostly all ground advantaged insects...., Youd think higher ground would sink in one day
even in the first movie, i was allways amazed by the lack of some sort of mechanised vehicle, i mean they have ships and at the end they have the mechs, why not have some sort of light vehicle with a big gun to fight these bugs?
Why weren’t 2nd and 3rd movie like the others? There was significant drop off in quality. Also as a Gundam fan these same trooper outfits were used in an Americanized Gundam series.

if that is what professional soldiers are like than war will be too easy i mean, standing in the open where teammates have no line of sight to provide covering fire and asking for a mag to reload? are you serious?
In such a situation a better alternative would be to make mechanized infantry that could one tap these foot soldier bugs Give ‘em 30mm twin autocannons with a coax 50. Cal on one arm And on the other arm a missile pod or another twin 30 Shoulder mounted rocket pods could be a useful addition Or you know…just give them vulcan’s and bottomless bullets.

Why weren’t 2nd and 3rd movie like the others? There was significant drop off in quality. Also as a Gundam fan these same trooper outfits were used in an Americanized Gundam series.
Set dressing looks dope in straight to DVD Film but CGI, the first film still better.

I think this movie tried to capture the feel of the first one but yeah from the budget limitations and the bad CG, effects the film in the long run. The practical gore is pretty good though
How is it possible that this looks so much worse then the battle scenes in the first movie ?

In such a situation a better alternative would be to make mechanized infantry that could one tap these foot soldier bugs
Give ‘em 30mm twin autocannons with a coax 50. Cal on one arm
And on the other arm a missile pod or another twin 30
Shoulder mounted rocket pods could be a useful addition
Or you know…just give them vulcan’s and bottomless bullets.
