@@stevekonbass wow! After watching your video. I’m finally beginning to think I can do this. What brand of bass guitar would you suggest for a beginner?
as an aspiring 50 year old bass player with about 1 year of practice so far (and school teacher btw), your lessons remind me of how effective white board lessons really are. We get so wrapped up in technology in order to change with the times, but the pace at which we process and retain information is about the same pace a teacher, instructor, or even professor writes on a chalk/white board. Harvard Professors still teach with chalkboards for a reason. I have learned more in 3 days of watching your lessons several times and playing along with your videos than I have learned on my own this past year combined. You Sir, have earned a new subscriber.
I love the white board lessons. Guess it shows our age. It allows one's brain to visualized as well as well as hear. I hand copied all the info on the board, it helps to retain the info.

Thank you very much for the videos you make and the lessons you teach. The explanation is so good that even those who have no knowledge can learn it. I am making progress. Greetings from Türkiye...
@stevekonbass I definitely did, but I was looking for muting techniques using the fretting hand... (might not even be relevant). Thank you again for the great video lessons!
Ah... yes, that is definitely relevant. The key to that is playing really slow and watching the mechanics of both hands. Especially if you're getting strings ringing that shouldn't be.
Hi Steve Thank you for your first lesson you made it easy tounderstand the progressions. I am getting the hang of it at last thanks to you. God bless. I have subscribed and liked the 1st lesson. Now I am going onto the second. You are a gem.. Thank you.
Your video's help us very well i don't have a personal trainer Thanks God I found your UA-cam channel for months I've train on my own doing some experiments now I know the proper way how to use the bass thank you.
The best lessons are simple enough for a child to learn from. No pedantic jargon. When you look at a guitar you see a grid therefore to play a tune on it all you need to know is the following : 1 Where the notes of that tune are located on the grid. 2 In what order those notes are played. After that you just have to practice to develop dexterity and speed. Before you start you will need to know how to tune a guitar, but this can be done without a tuner and it is simple. Ask a benevolent guitar player to show you how.
Thank you for the second lesson Steve I'm a. Beginner and learnt so many from your lessons please keep giving us more beginner sessions I appreciate your effort for helping us out #just one request can you please break down more off the traid set up I don't have so much info on that
Glad the videos are a help Ronwin. Here's a quick triad exercise for you. First, play the G major scale- G A B C D E F# G. Then play the triads GBD - ACE - BDF# - CEG - DF#A - EGB - F#AC - and then end on the G note. Learning to play the blues is a great way to develop as a player. Try this one: ua-cam.com/video/Sob9JJx4dik/v-deo.html
I am 50 years old and have been a drummer since i was 17. I always wanted to know more about the rhythm section and the bass guitar. I tried guitar but my fingers and like thumbs so it didnt work too well. I came across your lessons here and i believe this is where i should start off. I went to guitar center and grabbed a new Jackson bass and Acoustic 25 watt practice amp. The guy threw in a guitar bag and a strap for nothing. I started yesterday and i can already play the C, F, and G major chords without much difficulty. I am still hitting the wrong strings and sound very sloppy but thats to be expected right? lol Thanks Steve!
Great lesson again thanks Steve. I had good results at school with music theory, but sadly didn't capitalise on it. Now in my 50's loving the bass guitar, your lessons are the best at getting the fundamentals back cheers
Glad to hear you're working at it. Here's something for you to play along with as you learn. I left the bass out of the mix so you can practice improv and experiment: ua-cam.com/video/4bU-MC-mFeU/v-deo.html
Hi Steve, thanks for lesson 2 now. Why do I follow your lessons? First of all I'm age 67 but every friend that knows my age asks : how do you keep fit and young looking? Simple : get drunk and stoned is what I know as : I'm a " junk-head" that absorbs tunes since age 13 . Blues is my virus and alcohol + altering substances or "dope" turns my " junk-head " creative. I've been writing poetry, songs ,lyrics , comedy short stories and when shit happens , I better have pen& paper ( or occasionally toilet paper) to write the shit that it pours inside my head. Now let me go back to around 1994 when I managed to cut out the alcohol + dope and tobacco too. With the savings I made , I decided to buy a second hand bass ,which I did and started playing it . I did know shit about music notes and kept learning : by ear and trying to play the sounds heard inside my head after listening to loud tunes: Link Wray, to Nirvana , Led Zep to Mersey beat and much of the Chicago Blues. Down the basement lived a lady and jazz singer , we were friends , She disliked the bass sound : that soon had a letter from the council. then the Landlord, then herself knocked at my door on a Sunday afternoon , while rested the " Eco bass on the floor and machine heads against the wall, opened the door , to say to her : come on in for a cuppa...heard some strange noise , turned to look towards the bass and was lying over the floor , the headstock was broken and my anger exploded in a rage : look what you 've done witch? Then I was evicted as well. I've been scared since, I managed to mend and sell the bass. I've been practising Harmonica blues tunes outside the park and occasionally at open mic sessions . A friend of mine invited me to his rent accommodation to play harmonica and record/mix as he can make use of the recording studio free for all. He is learning drum lessons and electric/acoustic guitar , his friend plays guitar very well and drums too. We recorded one of my songs that I sang myself , and added the drum , acoustic guitar. One take. Then I thought that a band needed a bass? So bad. Last week I bought a Squire Jazz bass , used and at a low cost of £ 275. I will be collecting it next Thursday afternoon and take it straight away to the studio for practising . What is your advice on this? The drawback is that you can only practice on Thursdays from 3 until 10pm , as the neighbour next door the studio knocks at the wall to complain... but can wear headphones and practice straight into the recording gear until next morning. The other disadvantage is that at the moment I'm skint and cannot afford to pay for your lessons. With that in mind ...can you become the band's manager? That would be so cool Steve? I can post demos of my harmonica tunes and the song recorded recently . Hope to hear from you soon. PEACE ! and R&R keeps the world moving.
Rock 'n' Roll ain't noise pollution, but it can disturb the neighbors. In 1990 my band was practicing in the garage and the cops showed up. The old man says, "No more band practice here." Now I'm giving the neighbors the stink eye. Years later my little nephew slips and says, "Remember when Mommy called the cops on your band?" Turns out it wasn't the neighbors, it was my own sister. I won't forget that one. Headphones is the answer my friend. Get a small little amp that you can practice with, but that also has a headphone jack that you can plug into in the wee hours of the morning. I gather you're in the UK. Ya like blues? Here's some blues for you. Share it with your UK blues buddies... yes, I'm shamelessly plugging my own music, lol: ua-cam.com/video/k3LaPT45Aio/v-deo.html

You are such a great teacher I salute you. There is no one like you sir. Your teaching style is awesome.❤❤
I appreciate that. Thank you!
I was almost going to give up playing bass but after finding this channel I have so much hope! Thank you for breaking it down!
You can do it. Take it in little steps.
@@stevekonbass Crawl before I can Jam 😆 or walk lol.
Thank you Steve.
Been self teaching myself for a year or so
No theory knowledge.
You have explained the Major and Minor very well.
Thank you 👏👍
Glad to help Cliff.
My new favorite Teacher is here. Thank you for sharing your valuable skills in this platform. Just completed Lesson 2
That's a compliment, thanks! Enjoy the process and the journey.
Solid instruction, Sir.
I am making a wall poster with the bass neck and practice cards with scales/triads and drills. Very grateful!
Motivation is part of the battle and you sound motivated. Success is around the corner.
Another great lesson. I can't wait to move on to this one, but first I'll have to slow down my eagerness and master the first lesson first. Thanks again for inspiring me to get back into wanting to play rather than listening. Keep up the great work... 👍🤓
Best wishes from down under in Oz...
Glad you are enjoying the lessons. Scales are really important. While you practice these scales, you're also getting your fingers coordinated. There's actually a lot going on with these lessons... music theory, mind/hand coordination, timing. I always say that these are the most important lessons. Here's a video I put up yesterday that's relative to the topic, it's worth a watch: ua-cam.com/video/J9hbOaQCFcA/v-deo.htmlsi=AjvdH9RpiaYGH5pr
@stevekonbass thanks again for igniting the spark... 🇦🇺👍🤓
you are a good teacher. Well understood 👏. Thanks
Thanks Josef.
Tnk u for this lesson, im from indonesia i have good progress
That's great! Stay with it!
Thanks I've learnt from your two videos (101 part 1&2)
Great to hear!
I learnt alot in a short time thanks to your great teaching style Steve. Now now I'll try to consolidate it will plenty of practice with different rhythm patterns.
Awesome! Good luck on the journey.
Hey Steve, Butch here, well I've made another pass through the minor scale lesson and it was certainly a good review! I really need to go through the scales more regularly because I find it easy to forget! Thanks!
Hey Butch- Good to hear from ya. Yeah, this is a use it or lose it craft. Refreshers are good.
Tks a lot Steve!!! Recently I bought a bass course to start, but nothing compare the easiest way, clarity you’re teaching here 🎉… 🇧🇷 Tks again 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You're welcome! Enjoy the journey!
Thank you so much brother I'm from Samoa I never know how to play bass guitar but when I'm watching your lesson it's so amazing and now i know how to play thank you and GB❤
That's awesome! Glad the video helped!
@@stevekonbass yes brother it's help me a lots but please just one question about the the F.mj what cords it's in the F.mj like a G.mj it's G.C.and D but im just little bit confused about the F.mj please brother ❤️
Hmm... if I understand you right, you want to know what chords live in the F major scale? Okay, the F major scale is F, G, A, Bflat, C, D, E, F. The chords in the key of F major are... F major, G minor, A minor, Bflat major, C major, D minor, E diminished.
@@stevekonbass thank you brother GB.

Thank you so much for your videos, i have just started playing about 5 weeks ago so this videos are VERY helpful. You have made it simple to follow and understand!!!
Great to hear that Maria. Enjoy the journey.
The best of best bass guitar lesson, Thanks so much.
Thanks!!
Thank you very much for the videos you make and the lessons you teach. The explanation is so good that even those who have no knowledge can learn it. I am making progress. Greetings from Türkiye...
Glad you are making progress and "Hello Turkiye!"
This may be 2019 but this guy explains stuff that sticks in my mind ….well at least most of it….lol
I cannot thank you enough. Be blessed🙏🏻
You too.
Very clever way to see the major scale move around the fretboard! Excellent teaching!
Thanks, and thanks for watching.
@@stevekonbass I just binged watched a pile of your videos, THANK YOU! I'd love to see more on muting... Take care!
Did you see this one on the muted thumb technique: ua-cam.com/video/0WL4xHx38gU/v-deo.html
I really appreciate your easy to understand video's!
Hi Steve Thank you for your first lesson you made it easy tounderstand the progressions. I am getting the hang of it at last thanks to you. God bless. I have subscribed and liked the 1st lesson. Now I am going onto the second. You are a gem.. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words. Hope you enjoy the journey!
Your video's help us very well i don't have a personal trainer Thanks God I found your UA-cam channel for months I've train on my own doing some experiments now I know the proper way how to use the bass thank you.
That's great! Keep practicing. Each day you'll get better.
Very easy to follow and to understand.
You really break it down and help me me understand thanks for this !!
Happy to help!
He is really a great teacher
nice lesson, 2 done 37 to go, its really helps, thanks !
Glad it helped!
Thanks, Steve. You make it clear and simple for us beginners. Good job!
Thanks!
Thank you so much sir
Greetings from Germany
I lern lot from you!
You're welcome Ceylon and "Hallo Deutschland".
You're welcome. Hope you enjoy your new instrument. The more you play, the smoother it'll get.
Great lesson, thanks Steve.
Glad to hear you liked it Chris.
Great lesson again thanks Steve. I had good results at school with music theory, but sadly didn't capitalise on it. Now in my 50's loving the bass guitar, your lessons are the best at getting the fundamentals back cheers
Thanks Martin. Glad to hear you are playing again.
You got an A+++ from me my new friend.
Thanks Patrick!
AWESOME Lesson! Thank you Steve!😀

You're excellent teacher!

Thank you from France
You are welcome! "Hello France!"
How ur playing Dm it's so difficult
The drawback is that you can
only practice on Thursdays from 3 until 10pm , as the neighbour next door the studio knocks at the wall to complain... but can wear headphones and practice straight into the recording gear until next morning.
