    I always love swimming because it almost looks like flying. And see a Manta “flap its wings” just adds to that thought.

    what an amazing job, must be so good for the soul.
    1. she gets to immerse with nature, de stressing compared to e.g. office jobs with deliverable deadlines staring at a computer screen for 14 hours a day.
    2. she has a noble inspiring purpose everyday to get up to save/protect these precious marine wonders

      She's a scientist, so she definitely has a ton of computer screen staring to do every day, and a lot tighter deadlines and deliverables than regular office work.

    The sad thing is that the friendly types of Manta Rays are going extinct due to them being easily fished by their friendliness and it left the reclusive types of manta rays in the gene pool, in the next 50 years it wouldn't be surprising if we wouldn't be able to interact with them anymore due to all ray with friendly personality has all been fished out.
    Just like the increase of tuskless elephant population in Africa.

    One of the best trips I ever had in the Caribbean was the manta ray habitat. It was truly beautiful.

    I had the amazing experience to interact with a Manta Ray off the Kona Coast in Hawaii. It was at night, in a lighted area. It kept doing summer salts in front of me, within an inch of my body. It did this over and over. The mouth was wide open and I’m sure it was feeding. I couldn’t figure out why it kept banking so close to me. I certainly didn’t mind. It was amazing.

    The way they hunt is so funny to me because of how fast they flap
    They hunt in groups in a specific formation to get a lot of fishes, they make the fish feel calm until NYOOM FURIOUS FLAPPING
    Theyre like birds i love them

    Correct me if I'm wrong but touching a manta ray will remove a layer of protective "slime" on their hide. You as a marine biologist would know this but still touch them. Why?

      I don't think that's accurate. Most rays love to be petted because it helps combat parasites, lol, its why they're so friendly with people and other fish that'll offer them a fishy cleaning.
