    My friend has a Ghost, 23 inch barrel. it is extremely accurate with the 25 grain HN, 26 Griffins, 27.5 NSA. 24.8 NSA, 160 bar reg, from 880 up to about 940 maybe 950 at that bar pressure. The gun uses the same balanced valve that the alpha wolf uses, and it is easy to open. High velocities are achievable at much lower reg pressures because of the plenum size but it's easy too give it too much air, so the higher reg pressure helps a lot to mitigate against excess air. Spend 25 buck on a 5.49 TTS pellet resizer, and even if it's just for one tin, resize your HN's to that, it's close enough to .216 which we find shoots best in all our .22 cals, poly barrels, choked barrels, TJ barrels, you name it. It's night and day, 1000th. It will make anything your gun does like, predictable, perfectly uniform, and as accurate as they can be. It will also show you that you can't believe what the tin tells you and you will feel the inconsistencies while pressing them through the resizer. I still haven't had a gun that will shoot knockouts for whatever reason so that doesn't surprise me. maybe my crown but I have my Griffins and several others to cover my slug needs. We shoot out to 175 yards and that is not a limit for that gun with 25 grain to say the least. Obviously not in a hurricane but you know. It really seems to me that slugs like a particular speed for a given bar pressure, once that is figured out, if you want more speed, the bar pressure should be increased to maintain that level of accuracy, it's a fairly decent window in my opinion, But nothing has worked for me at lower reg pressures and excess air. it'll make you think nothing will work. From what we have tested, you can't screw up the redesigns, they are lasers from 860 to 960 at any pressure. Just my 2 cents, and I know you know an aweful lot, but sometimes it's the one thing we overlook, that added step we don't want to think matters those changes everything. Size is everything, it's the reason for all the inconsistencies more than weight, I also resize all my pellets to 5.5 it sucks, but you can't argue with the results, and you can't trust business, My resizer knows that die mixing is or at least was a sales tactic, it just can't prove it. Things have gotten better, but it was a shit show for 2 years starting 2020. Oh, I wanted to add that we zero at 43 yards just because that's where the bench is, and it is definitely possible to beat pellet groups or it's a dead tie anyway. I've never benched closer than that with either. I know you were at 30 so I thought I would just make that clear. Anyway, I hope you're doing well and I have fond memories of watching your tests when I was looking for answers myself. My crown also shoots way better resized .216, Superior heavy, 600mm, and I have to run 170 bar in that with a 3.5 Grahm hammer weight to utilize that pressure at roughly the same velocities as the ghost, I need the pressure because the plenum is so small but shoots amazing, 53fpe max. Good luck, it's a hell of a good gun.

      Sincere thanks for the great advice, will have to invest in a 5.5 sizer, only have a 177 at the moment. Very interesting observations indeed and certain things i will definately test. Did you by any chance polich the barrel? In my next video I am going to chat about it because I saw some ugly stuff when I ran a pellet through with a cleaning rod... the photos will make you turn purple. Don't know if it is a quality thing at LW or not. I am still in early testing phase, but after 2 weeks with the gun I have made some huge strides already. My poor fx is lying in the cupbaord, filled up and gathering dust. lol. I will be the first to buy a 700mm barrel once they have designed one, the extra barrel lenght will also assist in getting the speed up for the heavier slugs, I don't see myself shooting 30gr at a decent speed with my current setup.

      Hold out for the 5.49 if you can because 5.5 is basically .217. You are very welcome and I hope they are available, they got extremely popular.@@AimSmall

      No we didn't polish his barrel, but I did polish my Redwolf barrel, same barrel really, I was worried the transfer port was shaving as I loaded but nothing changed it still got quite dirty quite fast, inside the shroud and all. That gun might be worse since it has a built in air stripper, much like the Redwolfs defuser, I think that's what it's called, but the Ghost's stripper is a major step up, and I could see how that would trap more dust and such. It's an odd thing with that gun that has never happened to us before in any other guns but sometimes if you aren't paying attention when you load the mag, the tip of the slug can get shaved off when putting it in, that causes the first shot to go god knows where, and the little pieces can bung up the hammer movement, they get wedged under it since it clips off and falls where it can't escape. But I will say, I have more debris in my poly barrels than you would expect from a smoother bore, but it seems to be a byproduct of high velocity.@@AimSmall

      Not done yet, barrle is now polished, and choke slightly reduced, will test slugs again this weekend. Slugs are a lot more speed fussy than pellets, once you get a speed that works they can be super accurate, already found some nice slugs and speeds to test further.

    Whatever you said you saw in the barrel that would make a person turn purple is the protective coating that manufacturers put before shipping. It’s to prevent the steel from corrosion/rusting. A good practice is to thoroughly clean the barrel before shooting it when you receive it new. It will take a lot of patches and solvent to remove it. I always use a bronze brush. I don’t listen to the nonsense people say about bronze brushes harming the barrels. I’ve been doing it for years and have noticed is the most effective way to remove all the gunk and embedded lead on barrels.

    Don't think the best group is very reputedly because the groups lower and higer are bad. But i had about exactly the same speed for that slug shooting good at a fx pellet barrel 8 shoots at 100 meter about 2 cm group and 2 shoots mostly at making it 6 a 8 cm

    Unfortunately as you know, that here in the UK we are limited to just 12 ft pound without having a firearms certificate (FAC). I definitely think the new (MK ll) skirted Knock Outs are an improvement over the MK l that you are using but personally I have found that the ZAN 13 grains work best in my Ghost. Love your videos by the way and always look forward to a new one. Glad you have the Ghost under test. Of my collection (eight air rifles) the Ghost is my favourite PCP.

    I’m not sure if you can get your hands on Zan 23g. Admittedly I use these in my m3 impact at 1080fps and the group very tightly from 12m to 50m. The groups open up at 100m but still getting groups that take out rabbits no problem. I use to use Knockouts in 216 dia in my m2 but the m3 hates them. If you can get these Zan’s I can send you a packet. Cheers Rob. As always really enjoy your channel. 😊

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  Рік тому +1

      It takes a lot of tuning and a lot of slugs, I did that exercise before and got 1 or 2 slugs to group, but after 10 000 shots I am a bit tired of adjusting my gun everytime. Plus certain guns have a huge POI shift in different temparatures due to their thin "barrels", then you have to adjust everyhing all over again... Pellets out the tin outshoots slugs on paper every single day. I have not found a slug yet that can group as good as pellets without having to shoot 100's to fine tune it.

  • @precisionairgunninghunting6265

    Hate to say it buddy, but you're incorrect, Slugs will group just the same at close range, I zero at 20yds with some slugs & its one slug size hole, same as 30yds. it's more to do with what your barrel/liner prefers. Problem we have is a lot of the sponsored UA-camrs claimed Slugs need speed etc, with a view to sell power kits, then tuning aids, carbon sleeves, tension systems etc all BS. The Ghost has a twist rate of around 30ish which although not bad doesn't help with slugs along with other factors. Good to see you back again 😀

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  Рік тому +1

      Totally agree on the slow twist rate of the Ghost barrel, not inducive to stabilize a slug when leaving the barrel. My point about the slugs not grouping as well as pellets was from an untuned gun perspective, yes I can also tune my FX to shoot almost one hole at 30yards, but that takes a lot of tuning, and a lot of slugs, air, time and money. On the contrary you don't have to go through that hassle to shoot pellets through the same hole. All the guns I have ever bought were able to shoot a pellet brand or twon and one holing them, but none of those same guns were able to do it with slugs without fine tuning. Slugs are much more speed sensitive (not faster is better speed), but the harmonics type speed, I saw with the Ghost that 3fps can make a massive difference in accuracy, and that is true to most of the guns I have shot. My first liner from FX coudln't group any slugs at any speed at 30yards, yet it was a laser with 18gr JSB pellets, I had to get a liner with a faster twist rate and a lot of tuning to be albe ot get reasonable results with slugs. With pellets I have had out the box accuracy without fine tuning... Maybe you have had better luck than me to get to shoot a slug super accurate without having to spend hours of fine tuning.

      @@AimSmall i certainly don't tune so to speak, i generally pick a speed around the 980 mark & then use power wheel. Never had to tune for a specific slug or pellet, just adjust power wheel. I can shoot golf balls 12/12 at 110yds in 12-15mph FV winds. ½" groups at 100yds is easy. I don't touch the hammer pretension or valve. Liners are a lucky dip & mine has been superb. Had many different types, including the Slug liner from FX which was absolute garbage & I had 2. Currently set-up where moving only the Power wheel I can use, sub moa, about 12-15 different slugs/pellets. It really grinds my teeth when I hear people struggling as they shouldn't, by some companies out there have such poor quality control & even let their customers test products without even telling them.
