I love how it seems like Godzilla actively doesn't want to be here. He spends the whole movie getting stronger so he can end the fight as soon as possible and go back to bed. He HATES Kong and all the wacky adventures he goes on, and is guilt-tripped by Mothra into helping him. He's an unwilling participant in his own movie and its kinda hilarious
That look he gives Kong at the end after Kong smirks at him is, “If it wasn’t for Mothra, I’d have left you for dead with a smile on my face. I had to beat on 3 women today (Scylla, Tiamat, Shimu), and being associated with you has been my lowest moment today”

Think of it as like "Lethal Weapon" with monsters. Kong is the young hotshot and Godzilla is the grizzled veteran who's too old for this shit.
Fun fact: according to the gxk novelization, godzilla loved the. Colluseum or just rome in general, is because the architectural design of the colluseum reminds me of his old home, which was basically Atlantis, that was destroyed in king of the monsters.

Would love for it to happen but legally it's about as realistic as Spider-Man fighting Batman in his next movie.

the director was inspired by his cat for that godzilla sleeping in the coliseum shot and i LOVE THAT i love how directors have all mutually agreed to just reference cats when portraying giant lizards/dragons of any sort
I love just how much personality all these monsters are getting in this franchise. Godzilla takes down the bad guys but is always pissed off, Kong is growing into the wise old warrior king, and Mothra is the team mom who'll whoop you if you get antsy 😊
Suko (or mini kong) is a kind of hybrid between Scar King species (orangutang) and kong species (gorilla) when u see scar king lairs u can see an harem and some of them are carrying babies very similar to Suko. Also the one ape that scar king kicked on lava was actually suko's mother.
Another fun fact, despite been clearly an infant suko is taller than teenage kong on the skull island movie, teenage kong was 104ft in that movie, Suko is aparrently 131ft, wich means that when he reachs adulthood he can be much more taller than adult kong
Such a blast of a movie and it's the first time seeing Godzilla Mothra and Kong together for the first time in Kaiju history. Even more amazing. I can't wait for Godzilla/Kong 3 and future projects from both ToHo and legendary
When I stopped questioning things and just accepted this film for what it was, I enjoyed it.

27:41 Godzilla has in fact met Tiamat before and it was after the movie the king of the monsters as he was so tired he wanted to go to a old lair to rest but when he arrived Tiamat jumped him and actually almost killed him but luckily due to an air pocket he managed to get Tiamat onto land and get her to submit to him and kick her out of the lair

Fun fact: Terry Nortary who is the coach mocap ape in the recent planet of the apes movies and plays rocket in those movies, does the mocap for kong in all his appearances.

This movie is basically the MonsterVerse going full blown Showa era.
Fun Fact: When Kong was sharing his kill with Suko in the novelization, Kong actually said "I'm a God Boi!".
Something that bummed me out about this movie is the lack of time we got with Tiamat. She was built up a lot in the tie-in comics, she was an absurdly poweful Titan that was also revealed to be essentially Godzilla's cousin.
She was probably the most popular Titan to not appear in the movies until now.
I am quite sad we won't see more of Tiamat but at the same time Godzilla is positively burning with radiation so it makes sense most titans can't stand up to him rn
4:47 According to the funny and heartwarming sections of TV Tropes, Kong's reaction to Doug stealing his food from him is one of annoyance rather than aggression, suggesting that this is a regular occurrence, and it's implied that he (Kong) has grown at least *_a little bit_* fond of the mischievous creature enough to let him take some of his food 🤔🤷♂️🤗😁😉👍😌.
Mothera is pretty much a phoenix. She hatches, turns to a moth, lays an egg, dies, and the next one hatches.

Some of the Great Apes have individual names: according to TV Tropes, according to the novel, the one with the blind right eye 👁 is fittingly called "One-Eye" and is apparently one of Skar King's children alongside Suko and other infants 🤔😓. The one that Kong tries to save from falling off the cliff but ends up having to kick him off the cliff for real in self-defense because he was a sorry little ingrate who still attempted to kill Kong after he had just saved his life 😠😡🙄😒🤨, his name was Stone Fist 👊 ✊️ 🤛 🤜. Another one of the initial attackers along with One-Eye and Stone Fist was called Catcher. Another one of Skar King's goons, the one crushed by Kong's giant swinging stone trap was apparently called Knob. The ape who was Suko's caretaker whom Skar King brutally murdered in front of Suko and Kong, his name was Gnarled Finger, and while "friend" might be going a bit far, the novelization reveals that, prior to meeting Kong, Gnarled Finger was the only Great Ape to treat Suko with any measure of kindness by letting him eat the scraps of his meals and shielding 🛡 him from being attacked by the other apes 🥺😣😔. And the Great Ape slave that Kong helps up and beats up the bully abusing him, while not named in the movie, was named "Boots" by the movie's vfx animators 🤔😉.
Kong using suko as a weapon was amazing! Half the audience laughed at that
I love that they brought Mothra back and she was the mediator between Godzilla and Kong. The ultimate trio.

First of all THANK Y'ALL for acknowledging that it made sense to take jia. She had more than one reason to go. Narratively just smarter than most movies. And y'all noticed the tracking shots. Just makes me happy to see Adam get the credit he deserves. His are my favorites in the monsterverse and they are SO NICE to look at. Finally no more dark Godzilla movies. Minus One got me into Godzilla but I seriously love these movies and their rewatchability is so great. Empire is amazing.

Took my 3 teenage boys to watch it today, I'm a lifelong Godzilla and Kong fan. Everyone loved it. Great summer movie. Action, Nostalgia, Comedy, and Pure fun.
I took my 11 year old grandson to see this opening weekend and he loved it, I really enjoyed the ridiculousness of it 😂

Any protection Godzilla fights to people is incidental. Kong is a protector of mankind and ruler of the hollow Earth. Godzilla is the guardian of nature and king of the monsters. Mothra is Queen of the monsters while also being the protector of the iwe people. Also Suko look small but he's over 100 ft tall which is a similar size as Kong was in Kong skull Island and he's a lot younger so that means he will be way bigger.

I love the natural progression of the bond between Kong and Suko. Even with that "I'll beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker" moment. And the fact that Jia was prophesized as a hero who can rouse Mothra from her slumber is amazing, same with her meeting other members of her people.
Fun fact: Dan Stevens also played The Beast in the remake of Beauty And The Beast.
You can't assume Godzilla has never fought in that type of environment, especially when he was the one that trapped Scar King and the other apes underneath Hollow Earth.

@@Emmalinezewyvern that was obvious to many of us too. The visual language of the scene was telling you that the whole time, even the way Suko was running away.

Shimo is a very distinctively unique titan in the monsterverse. Her mastery over the sub zero temperature combined with her extremely high durability makes her a formidable adversary for any threat. Not only that but coupled with her speed on four legs and the ability to fight on four or two legs give her a sizable advantage in combat. Having said this i respect that she looked to Godzilla for what he thought the best course of action for her. She not only sees but understands that he is a balancing force of nature and respects that by deferring to him what must be done for both the surface world and the Hollow Earth to be safe. This theory is solidified (to me anyway) when she watches Godzilla undo her weather manipulation with an almost sense of awe that he is able to do that. Shimo to me is that tough older warrior you see in stories with a heart of gold under that despite being a little up there in age is a formidable ally and lasting friend.
