Many years ago, I read this quote from an American pioneer woman about quilts. "We made them as fast as we could so that we wouldn't freeze to death, and as beautiful as we could so that we wouldn't lose our minds." It brings tears to my eyes every time I think of it. Thank you, Carlos & Arne, for this lovely video.

There was a memoir called The Quilt from a man who visited his Scandinavian grandparents on isolated farms in Northern Minnesota as a boy in the days people traveled in wagons. When the women gathered for a birth or death they brought a community quilt with pieces of clothing from people who had died. As they sewed each piece they shared stories of that person.

The Salvation Army here had a 75% off sale on their wedding, and prom dresses. I bought them all. Now I know how to cut them up and use them in quilting. Thank you.

I make what we call fidget quilts for dimentia patients with this technique. As I sew, I add trinkets, ribbons, yarn and fabric with different textures. They are finished about 20 inch square. Dimentia and Alzheimer’s patients get very agitated and they love these little quilts to fondle.

They're made for Autistic children, too. Their "sensory quilts" can also be aids for learning to do buttons, shoelaces, zippers, etc.

I got married during the pandemic in Dec 2020 at the age of 40, after accepting I probably would never get married. But after a whirlwind 6 week engagement, my soulmate and I married. Up until now I wasn’t sure what to do with my wedding dress, but now I know and am going to make a couple of patchwork cushions for our bed. Thank you for the inspiration and enabling me to do something with my dress to keep the memory.

I love this tutorial. I did something similar many years ago (in the 90s) using scraps from various sewing projects (including my wedding dress). I used a bright thread and a fancy zigzag over the seams to try to tie it together. It has become a UFO but I do have several squares completed. I think I need to pull it out and finish it! Thanks for the inspiration!

I had already decided to use my wedding dress to make a quilt. It's been in a suitcase for 25 years. If I make a quilt, then it will be useful rather than a bit of clutter.
My wedding dress's skirt is a soft white satin, and the bodice is lavender satin, with a soft white lace jacket. The year after I married, my brother married, and I made a soft purple skirt from a fabric that looks like raw silk. Then about 5 years ago, I made a deep purple dress for a friend's wedding. It is also satin, but I used the 'wrong side' rather than the shiny. These three wedding outfits will form the basis of my quilt. I'll add a load of lace too.
Thank you. I would never have thought to use these old clothes in this way.

Crazy quilting is a lot of fun! I love that with quilting as for so many other crafts; there is a style to suit everyone. You can be measured and detailed. Geometric, abstract, curvy, whatever you like! I’m glad that a lot of quilters will now be enjoying your videos, and I’m sure there’ll be more like me who enjoy a range of crafts. As you do! I found you because I was looking for knitting, and was so glad to find you because I also love embroidery, gardening, cooking, crochet, sewing etc etc! There really is something for everyone :)

The teamwork and conversation between you two imparts such fun! I would love to see a video where both of you sit and just play with your beautiful fabrics and show us what lovely things happen from "no plan at all" and working together. Watching this makes me want to go into my sewing room and get creative!! Thank you so much for the inspiration. BTW: I ordered materials to start making some idea books. So excited to start all these projects you inspire us to try! Thank you both so much, and the rest of the team as well. Hi to Freja! 🐶💕

Waw! This turned out really beautifull! I'm never going to throw awy any leftovers :) I was a bit sceptic at first, because I'm a bit of a strict person, I mostly follow the rules. But this is so lovely, that i'm going to try it too. I hope my husband will assist me for the ironing :D . I've got a lot of fabrics laying in my closet, because I regularly sew for my grandchildren and I used to sing operetta and sew the clothes... I'll start as soon as my knitting is finished :) . Thank you very very much for this (again) very educational tutorial... waiting for the next one. Love you guys :)

I love the fact that you use tools like most of us have and not the state of the art perfect tools.. like dull scissors and a kitchen towel for a press cloth. Also doing it on a regular dining table. It's encouraging to see you guys "making do" with what you have. I was raised with the mindset of "Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without.". Times are not that difficult for me as that, but I still don't like wasting anything. I have my grandmother and my mother's clothes. I have a memory quilt that my mother hand pieced with my grandmother's dresses, that were cotton. It is grandmother's fan. I think a crazy quilt is a perfect idea for me to make with my mother's clothes as they are not all cotton. Mixed fabric will be great on a crazy quilt. Thank you, I learn alot from you two! Great personalities that are enjoyable to watch also!

While I have never quilted, I have always wanted to make a crazy quilt using velvet bits and doing embroidery over. Thank you for teaching us and boosting our confidence to try!

I never knew about sewing the patches down to a backing fabric. I wondered how you sew all those shapes together. Now, I know and am really looking forward to the next video. Thank you for showing this.

I love quilts but have stayed away due to the precision that seemed to be required to complete one. You both have opened a whole new world of thought on this issue. So much fun to watch the beautiful creation that was made from just scraps. I love the free form....I was never able to color within the lines.... Thank you for such an enjoyable podcast.

I started watching your Knitted Christmas Balls and ended up watching you both embellishing your crazy quilts. You have really good taste and appreciation for beautiful and vintage textiles. You have definitely inspired me. I've been wanting to make something special with the things my relatives have left me and you have shown me so many ideas to make special pieces for my children. Loving your videos and I've subscribed!

I learned how to make crazy quilt blocks and they are so much fun and the sky's the limit on creativity. I have one I am ready to hand quilt. Thanks for this fun video guys. I like to embellish with beads, ribbon, buttons, lace or anything that's fun to add ❤❤😂

So happy to have found ur channel and ur easygoing approach to art and creativity! I m not a ” precision person” and I do love ur quotes like ” it quilts itself”, ”when in doubt add some embroidery”, and ur discussion about not being too afraid to put scissors into beautiful fabrics!!! Maybe a mad artist like myself finally finds a way into quilting now....thank u from Sweden
