When I was in high school I was in the hospital recovering from major surgery and waiting on lab results to see if it was cancer. The nurses would watch The 700 Club and Pat Robertson comes on the show explaining that cancer is the devil and we need to pray for all of those out there who have the devil of cancer in them. The fact that you say this chap has appointed himself as a mouthpiece for God, indicates to me a couple of things. 1.that you do believe in God 2. that this disqualifies him in your mind as a valid testimonial for either God or the Bible 3. that you still think or at least allow yourself the luxury to think that there are genuine Christians elsewhere. ...and if these things are at least half true in your mind then reason would afford that you outh not necessarily write the Bible off - which speaks of both the power and wisdom of God and that real Christians did at least exist in ancient times (2,000 yr ago). When I was in high school I was in the hospital recovering from major surgery and waiting on lab results to see if it was cancer. The nurses would watch The 700 Club and Pat Robertson comes on the show explaining that cancer is the devil and we need to pray for all of those out there who have the devil of cancer in them. I started crying. This man on TV was telling me I might have a devil inside of me. He is the one that is a devil. He has led so many people to dark dead ends.

The fact that you say this chap has appointed himself as a mouthpiece for God, indicates to me a couple of things.
1.that you do believe in God
2. that this disqualifies him in your mind as a valid testimonial for either God or the Bible
3. that you still think or at least allow yourself the luxury to think that there are genuine Christians elsewhere.
...and if these things are at least half true in your mind then reason would afford that you outh not necessarily write the Bible off - which speaks of both the power and wisdom of God and that real Christians did at least exist in ancient times (2,000 yr ago).
Foolish men who claim to speak for God, only prove the statements of the Bible that:

2. and that the love of many will grow cold - Matthew 24:12
3. that many will be lukewarm, yet think that they are great in God's eyes, yet God is about to spit them out of His mouth - Revelation 3:14-22.
If you truly think that such conduct gives Christians a bad name, while thinking they are a mouthpiece for God, then I urge you to carefully think again, lest you allow such 'bad conduct' to rob you of REAL riches - peace, and joy, and right standing before God without end.
Just keep in mind that even if all men were found to be liars, and that includes you and me, God Himself is faithful - He cannot lie. And for those who realize that at least one lie has caught them out and they are guilty before God, a ransom has been paid for our redemption, our salvation, and that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in His laying down His pure life for the likes of wretches like me and you.

Yep...add to that; the Gospels weren't written by the people whose names they bear. To top it off, Paul was a Syrian Pharisee (see what Yeshua (Jesus) said about those guys), whom Yeshua never met; never chose, who was considered as a counterfeit by the true apostles, & whose writings in any case are considered by some at least, to be Roman fabrications, which is why the "Wholly Rotten Empire" relied so heavily on them. The selected writings which made it into Roman Canon are only a fraction, & even these have been tortured into submission, like the long suffering congregation. Is it any wonder that the book as a whole is so contradictory, so full of holes, & so open to bizarre interpretation, from any & every crack-pot who chooses to attempt it?
