I had the privilege to visit Peter Diezel at the factory. Played through a bunch of his designs. It was wicked. These amps comes highly recommended, especially this head.
I LOVE how he reviews stuff ... different guitars, fitting riffs, fun guy, etc. ... good stuff!!
These videos always make me smile. Thanks.
What a cool player man. Great demo. Enjoyed watching and listen to him
Thanks Nick for yet another amazing demo =)
Diezel has made the right decision with this one: It’s the future of amplification, -I’d take it over a Kemper, a Helix or an Axe-FX anyday.
Michael Wong Yeah. The preset he stored in the video wasn’t my cup of tea, but I can appreciate it for being an example of how easy it is to dial in.
To bad Metallica uses Axe FX
I use both a VHX and a Kemper. Though the Kemper sounds better at lower volumes, the VHX blows it out of the water when above 5 volume.
@@Wheresthepepsibismol Too
Awesome demo and what and excellent collection of guitars 🤟🏼
I lost it with the "Jumbo Shrimp" line. 😄
Fantastic!
Phenomenal amp, sub-par tone demo of it. This thing sounds incredible.
Yep, you can tell he likes 80's scooped mid metal. I just ordered one today that I found in stock, especially after reading that it can replicate blueface circuitry.
@@will_mcfarland how do you like it? Does it get the blue face tone?
@@Giantsbran1227 yes it can
Facts they always have the older dudes playing dusty riffs, I wanna hear that thing crank with a 7 string
Another Sweetwater Diezel Demo? I guess I’m clicking!
This is insane might get one.
SICK!!!
Love your presets. Can you share? Love the Sykes and VH.
Sounds better here (to me) only cab sim.....love Diezel stuff. I’ve always thought the “Paul” amp was under-rated....
Thanks Nick, loved the Grim Reaper licks at the end!
Ah, that very Grim Reaper ending. Thanks for that. 🤘
You guys need to get that dude from Vitriol to demo that thing man! I wanna hear it melt someones face off :)
Ooooh I’ve got to try this.
Hopefully this means the VH Minis have landed too!
Probably the best amp in the world.
👍for this video ! Sir, I want to upgrade my Audio interface (focusrite 2i2 2nd gen ). Which one is better audient ID14 or focusrite clarett 2pre ? Pls suggest me.
If you had a podcast about anything, Nick is one of those guys you should definitely invite to guest XD.
nwy, cool amp! Though I'm never gonna afford it haha
$5k and doesn't even make espresso. ps. nick should demo stuff more often.
@Dirtypussy Tornadokick It'll reach around and empty your wallet, if that counts.
too much for an amp that is getting into Wizard territory and still think that a Wizard amp sounds a lot better.
@@GuitarsAndSynths wizard is king.
I love this guys choice of words
On a serious note, I would love to dial in some Machina sounds on this bad boy. Nick made that look too easy to get the sounds you want.
Thank´s for the test - how was it recorded - per IR-Loader (direct) or room-Mic?
Hi Wolfgang, I'm pretty sure he is using both Cabsim and actual Cab mixed for all the video but for the last song where Nick mention he recorded with Cabsim only.
@@politoleo Ah, yes it ab 20.40 where he turns the mastervolume down at the amp. Thanks!
Thank you for the entertaining demo! I ordered my VHX two days ago. I LOVE old tube tech married to the modern. It's like Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's house - an old school mud hut but all filled with space shit.
Im assuming this has no converter - no delay when playing. Great for tracking without having to mic a cab.
It infact does have ad da conversion even when effects aren't in use.
I just got a Orange Super Crush 100watt with orange pro 412 240 cab. This VHX100 is insane!
I can't believe I missed this. What's the consensus 2 years later?
Do you know how to upload the 8 preset factory once lost?
Contact diezel off their website.
This amp is the best sounding damn thing I've ever heard in my life.. I kinda of just want to go the "shut up and take my money" route... im gonna need GAS-X
I just wish they would do a VHX 50w, or have a switch (or an option in the preferences) to turn off 2x KT77 to turn the 100w to 45-50w. That’s all I want, everything else is perfect!
If not, then they could release a VHXS for Stereo and/or Dry/Wet by having 2x 50w amp and having a way to split signal to send pure analog Dry sound to one Cab and the digital Wet sound to another cab. Then all you need is a Stereo 2x12” Cab and you have a very simple Dry/Wet or Stereo rig…
Don’t understand the cab sim bit, if you turn off the amp how are we hearing sound?
you’d have to plug it into an interface or monitors to hear it with cab sim. I use this function to silently record demos on my VHX.
The Firebird-X of Diezel? ;)
Could you Share your settings for the settings?

$4900??? - faints -
If it doesn't make me my morning coffee I ain't buying it for 5 grand more like 1 grand
Software development...way more expensive than the circuitry itself xd
I wonder why Diezel does not mention the amp on their website. It´s like the amp doesn´t exist for Diezel... strange.
You'd figure that after months they would have updated their website to feature a brand new product?
Does it connect to WiFi?
I'd have a sweet guitar collection too if I had the Sweetwater showroom at my disposal.
Not to mention they are all left handed.
Those are all his guitars, but Sweetwater's 😜
Ok, so, between 20:00 to 21:00, while saving the cab sim, Nick kills the output to the physical cab to "sample the sim."
I have to imagine, it would've been mentioned somewhere if it had one, like the Boss head... or, is it the Yamaha... ICR...
Anyway... does the VHX have a built in speaker that Nick is hearing? Or, must it be an external monitor or even silent, possibly, for him, for the "cab sim demo" portion?
It just sure does seem as though he is actually hearing his own demo... to me, anyway.
There is not an integrated speaker in the Head, there is XLR and Headphone out, so he may be using a couple of external monitors for the demo, or silent, yes!
@@politoleo
Ok, cool. Thanks for the reply! 🤘
Please let Ron Carr have at this and record it, pretty please!
It would have been perfect if it had a reactive loadbox built in instead of disabling the power amp when no cab is attached. all IRs sound good only with a real power amp not with simulated power amps. Maybe a version 2 that has this feature and it will truly be the future of amps. I like the idea
We did it on the first prototype and results were actually worse because a reactive loadbox can only approximate "one speaker curve" of load, and with different speakers it resulted in worse performance. Instead the load is simulated in a different way and it actually changes with the speaker selection. But sure, for amps without this tech, a load box would behave better.
@@politoleo Very interesting. Thanks for the insight. It should set the blueprint for all the amps to come in the modern era without a doubt. Hope I will get an opportunity to try it as it certainly brings radically unique tonal options in the digital context.
This demo makes it sound very digital. (I still want one)
EMG loaded guitar and the 80's modulation doesn't help.
How so?
Sounds dialed in a bit too trebly for my taste
@@alecc130 I really started listening around the cab simulation portion (12:40 or so)
Where are the EMG's? The demos didn't sound like 80's at all, to me. Esp that chunky distortion
He figured it all out on his own,yea right.
Lovely but what happens if it breaks? Not sure how the long term reliability of Diezel amps are.
Negative Nancy
I see he's playing some Grim Reaper there at 3:30
I need a manual to guide me to use the manual...
Any chance this is going to come down £3000 in a Black Friday sale 🤣
What even is their target market?
I'm just not seeing $5K worth of amp head
Was really hoping to hear how this amp sounds with some more Modern metal .
Interesting concept but I don't think it'll catch on. When people buy discrete analog tube amps, it's because of the simplicity and assurance that it will last for decades and won't just die because of repairability. But if you add digital bits like screens and microchips, you're bringing failure-prone and irreparable bits back. If that's the case, then may as well get a proper modeler like axefx or line6 that offer vastly more DSP power and options in the digital realm and pair it with a pure analog amp (and still stay at a similar cost to this one).
There is a picture of it inside somewhere over the net, if you look at it you would probably change your thought about repairability, it's a Diezel and it's built to last!
It doesn't need more DSP power as everything is tubes + relay :)
@@politoleo it needs dsp, memory, micro controllers and display chip to drive the digital effects and menu system. those are the bits I'm worried about. I know the analog side of things will probably be pretty reliable.
@@the80386 I mean that the DSP it does have it's already too powerful for what it needs, I know the VHX very well.
Have a look at the inside and feel free to compare with any piece of modern consumer tech or modelers you mentioned, you will be surprised :)
Also a modeler plus a regular amp won't give you the capability to store all the settings (gain/tonestack/deep/presence/volumes...) like the VHX, and the VHX would still be a breeze to operate, no midi setup, no ground loop or no other gear to gear related issue.
@@politoleo diezel builds quality products especially compared to engl and many others.
basically if the triaxis was an amp.
4 thousand dollars goodness and 51 pounds thats a heavy thing for sure
kristoper hyde I can one-hand it pretty easily though.
$4,900 US
2 gigantor transformers wrapped in a box! YIKES!!
Likes Diezel tone but price always scares me!!
Made from the best components on the planet and have a lifetime warranty. And if Peter ever makes any upgrades to them, like if he makes a vhx mark 2, he will upgrade it for free.
All I want is a 20 watt VH4 😢
It was already announced on NAMM and it's coming...
I have played the prototype....
If Don T would just Executive Order some more stimulus, we would all have one of these. Where’s my free money, America?!
Leftie 🙃
Very cool head. But $5,000 is insane.
Nice, but I'd rather have a Diezel Lunchbox Head
Stay tuned for the new VH Mini to be released shortly :)
@@politoleo That will be awesome! :)
0:56 Who also was waiting so hard for that bend that he just omitted?
IDK... $5K amp?? I prefer the tone of the VH4 with effects added separately for half the price.
VHX is just about $500 more than the VH4....
@@politoleo Sure if you buy new but I bought mine used. Always a deal to be found out there. 🤘🤘🤘
The Diezel VHX gets the VH4 tone. In fact, it covers the tone of all the Diezel lineup.
@@viniciusbertucci Nice!
That's according to Peter Diezel and Peter Stapfer themselves! I've seen people hating on this amp saying it sounds digital, but the amp is 100% tube driven. (I haven't played it, though.)
Almost 5 grand and it comes with JJ tubes? 😂
This amp will help you walk and chew gum at the same time...classic line!
Holy crap... $4,900 USD.... well, start saving those pennies I guess.
Beautiful amp, probably 2 legs🙄$$$$$$
I guess everyone in the world has $5000 extra cash lying around.
I don't care what it sounds like.. I'm not paying that for a amp !
Bunch of Haters on here that can't afford it
dna as tubular as a blackstar or a dt50... pass
Sounds like a wasp in a tin can? I hope its cheap.....lol of course its not lol
Sounds like a helix
Uglier, too.
Funny, because it's 100% tube driven.
Meh, doesn't sound that great. :(
I have a VHX and it's actually amazing, he's just cranking the bass, treble, and gain while scooping the mids... The exact thing you shouldn't do with a high gain amp lol. I will admit even dialing it in all crazy like that surprisingly sounds really good in the room when you're playing unaccompanied guitar, but when you record it, you'll find it quite lacking.
It's unbelievable. I almost cried. This review is garbage. Sounds 2 million times better in person.
sounds like a crappy peavy combo
Lol exactly what I thought
That “page” tone was terrible, nothing like page. Crazy this is almost 5000 bucks, sounded so digital with all those effects on top.
He’s a good player but this is a terrible demo
