Homeland is an edge-of-your-seat sensation. CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is tops in her field despite being bipolar, which makes her volatile and unpredictable. With the help of her long-time mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), Carrie fearlessly risks everything, including her personal well-being and even sanity, at every turn. You won't be able to turn away from this gripping, emotional thriller in which nothing short of the fate of our nation is at stake.

I was curious if you guys had the chance to watch Costa Ronin's InstaLive last weekend (April 5th, 2020). A fan asked him if Yevgeny was in love with Carrie. Surprisingly, he said NO. He stated that they are very respectful of each other, and that it was NOT LOVE. I found it interesting that he went straight to the point very quickly about it.
And then end with Carrie in a long-term relationship with the guy who went rogue and killed many many people the previous season, took her off her meds, held her captive, got her to talk. They fall in-love? Face to face with the man who gave her hell.
Hell yeaaaah, Carrie and Saul💙 I love what they did with the ending! Unexpected but fitting for her character, sort of a happy end but also a beginning of something new, ambiguous and a little open for imagination and not enough to leave the audience angry ... and the title Carrie Mathison: Why I Had To Betray My Country , that's just brilliant, considering how many times she betrayed her country and everyone she loved without a blink of an eye, and she actually ALWAYS did it FOR HER COUNTRY 😄 👌
“I know that you think that he was kind to you, that he saved you. But the truth is he systematically pulled you apart, Brody, piece by piece. Until there was nothing left but pain. And then he relieved the pain and he put you back together again as someone else.”
↳ S2.E05 (Brody vs. Abu Nazir) | S8.E09 (Carrie vs. Yevgeny)
We can say that Carrie/Saul was one of the best-built characters in history - alongside Max, Farah, Max, Astri and Brody, Dar Adal, Quinn... It would be possible to clarify the following doubts:
    - I would like to see Homeland reveal how the CIA explained Brody in Iran and his death to the American press. Clearly, Javadi being able to take credit for capturing Brody helped his cause in Iran, but did the US government reveal Brody's role in Akbari's murder? Was his name cleared for the CIA attack? I'd love to know what you thought.
    - Another loose thread: Paul Franklin and the murder of the "real" CIA bomber. You just did that ... why ??
Carrie was publicly humiliated, beaten, doped, shot and put her life on the line countless times without hesitation, just to make others see Brody as she saw him ... and succeeded. Abu Nazir, the CIA, Jessica and the show's own audience, no one came close to seeing Brody with the clarity Carrie has always seen. Carrie has always read Brody like no one else.
Ah, Carrie's dialogue with Javadi was awesome, it will be one of the most memorable moments of the series, without a doubt!
"And what you wanted, which was for everyone to see in him what you see. That has happened. Everyone sees him through your eyes now ..."
    - How did Carrie see Brody? and how did the US come to see it? It's the world?

Episode 9 “In flight”: Kiss is poison (1:20) The characters of Yevgeny and Carrie are enemies parallel to each other. Yevgeny had Carrie follow him and appeared when she was about to hear the audio from the flight recorder. They discover together that the President's helicopter crash was a mechanical failure. When Carrie asks Yevgeny's help to take the flight recorder to Islamabad, Yevgeny says he can't trust her because she lied to him. Carrie reminds him of how he also withheld information from her and just divulged what he needed her to know about his captivity in Russia. Yevgeny pulls her and they kiss. Seconds later, he injects her with a sedative and steals her flight recorder.
From the pilot in 2011 onwards, “Homeland” sought to encourage viewers to think hard about some central questions: What did the United States learn from 9/11? Do we overreact on our domestic agenda to fight the war on terror?
Season 7 and 8 at its best highlighted how the deepest institutions in Washington DC work in real life and how diplomacy can easily be hindered by political issues. Taking a lot of dramatic leave, "Homeland" has always put a spotlight on how decisions, feints and instinctive calls made by anonymous agents in the field can prevent disasters and change the course of history.
Carrie does all this while establishing her legacy for the one thing she has been fighting for since her first scene - the security of America. It's been a swan song worthy of a character that will be missed - a character who, until his final hour, has been one of the greatest names of all time on television. While it is great to see the playing field open to the Danes once again, it is difficult to see it encompassing someone as wealthy as this one.
Only an actor of the Danish caliber could have made Carrie's failures, mental health struggles and crazy romantic choices real - Saul, Brody, Quinn and Max - enough to worry us for 96 episodes.
Ultimately, Carrie ended her eight-season run on "Homeland" as she started on the pilot: working in the spy business, more disguised than ever and guided only by her internal radar to what was right and wrong. Because in the end, all that matters is who you trust (because you sincerely love that person).
That is, she will never really trust guys like Dante or Yevgeny.
PS: Did she forget that he punched her in season seven? He keeps her prisoner, drives her crazy and has a strange personality change in season 8, which I'm sure is just for her to work with this GRU spy, now does she really trust him? How can this work?
Contrary to sincerity with Brody, Saul and Quinn; it will never work.

Carrie comes closer, standing over him now. And she leans forward, a narrow-eyed glare burning holes in his face.
“You think I blame you?” She snorts. “Don’t… flatter yourself. Because blaming you would imply that what you did to me was personal. But it wasn’t, was it? I was a captured enemy agent. And what you did… withdrawing my medication, stripping me of my last shreds of humanity, watching me claw my nails bloody at those white tiles at night, flinging my waste at your people…” She shakes her head. “You systematically pulled me apart. For months. And then you swung in at the most opportune moment. You ‘saved my life’, and you ‘managed to put me back on my meds for a couple of weeks there’. A ‘couple of weeks’,” she spits. “...out of seven months I was there. You show me some kindness, take me for long walks in the birch forest, have me bare my soul to you…”
For the first time since the day they left for Ramallah her face wobbles, and her voice breaks.
“You think I don’t know what it’s called, Yevgeny?” She leans closer. “You think I’ve never recruited an asset?” And closer still. “You don’t think I know what it feels like? The guilt, when they finally break? The look in their eyes when they finally trust you?”
He uses every ounce of his will power to steady his voice, holding her teary, fluttering stare. “Carrie, you’re wrong,” he says, measuring every word. “I know you think this. And I know it makes sense. But that wasn’t what happened.”
Her face is a wobbling mess now, every muscle twitching. “Like hell it wasn’t,” she mouths. “You knew what withdrawing my medication would do to me. And you fucking did it anyway. You broke me. You put me back together again. And you used me. And now you’ve got me here, in your house, day after day, a walking, breathing reminder of what you did. And it hurts. I know it does, believe me. I’ve been there.”
There’s barely an inch separating their faces when she breathes her last words for the night.
“Damn you to hell,” she hisses. “Damn you to fucking hell, Yevgeny. Because here I am. And whatever you think you feel, whatever you think happened between us, I hope it hurts. And I hope it hurts for a long, long time.”

We've seen that the president's helo was switched out at the last minute. When Carrie showed the transcript the guy was shocked. "Metal in the oil!" There seems to be a bigger story here.

He’s not Afghani, he’s Russian!! Can someone please tell me why Carrie has such a lisp in this entire season??? It makes an already super-annoying portrayal of character even more annoying still! I love this show, DESPITE Clare Danes, in no way, shape or form BECAUSE of her. I almost didn’t watch past the first season because of how very, very annoying all her bug-eyes are, and it’s only gotten worse with each passing season, but the scripts themselves are so stellar that I put up with it-not to mention all the great supporting cast!
How many people have been killed BECAUSE of Carrie Matheson during these eight seasons?!? I think far more than she has actually saved. I don’t like her character, and I cannot STAND the way her character is portrayed, but I still love the show anyway!!
