Yes I was raised in an authoritarian household back when physical punishment was the norm. But I do not need external praise. I need my own validation and I have an internal locus of control, I don’t want to blame the government or my parents or environment that caused me to develop a carb addiction. It’s me.. and it’s only me that going to pull myself out of this 🙏
Interesting I’m from the same era. I actually feel incredibly uncomfortable when getting praise and if I believe it my head actually gets too big. But getting positive affirmation does help your confidence.
Never done any physical activity in my life but learning how important it is and going to start doing something. Never too old to start some form of physical activity. 😊
Dr. Cywes, your insights are like no other. Thanks for blessing my life💖. Loving and respecting ourselves is paramount to good mental health. I'm learning to speak to myself in the same manner I would speak to someone I love...
As a dude who does very, very high intensity striking three times a week at my MMA gym, I've bumped into a number of people who are Cross Fit veterans. Every single one. EVERY ONE OF THEM. Has started off a recount of their experience thusly, "I used to do Cross Fit, but I got injured." I'll pass.
"Well, maybe you can listen to music, maybe you can read a book, maybe you can do some meditation. There are other avenues: human connection, physical activity, creative arts, spirituality and meditation, are the four cornerstones of an internalized sense of self." I hate to say this, but as a hippie spiritualist vegetarian of 47 years, I can wholeheartedly agree this statement. And eating a nice, succulent papaya and vegetarian Indian dinner ain't gonna change that.
Great respect to this man who has done the work himself and has developed the wisdom and insights so critical for me to learn. I have struggled. I've known there was something more than what I was eating and when I was eating.there was an emotional, psychological aspect I could not pin down. This illuminated much! Thank you I feel more hopeful.
@robert cywes Dr Cywes when on a low carbohydrate diet/ Keto, what if any are the benefits of eating carbohydrates at all? I'm under the impression no carbohydrates is the way to go.
I'm glad he said "I'm a blob" because I was thinking he looked quite fat for someone on a keto/carnivore diet. Why would he be this fat if this diet is so appropriate to humans? I'm not sure how he says, "Food doesn't make us fat, but sugar and starch does and it gives us that buzz... and your either going to become diabetic or obese or both." Do you know any high carb doctors that are obese or diabetic? I don't, and I listen to all of them lecture. I'm not a doctor, but I eat an overwhelmingly plant-based diet and in my mid 60s I border on being underweight. When I was at the doctor's office a few months ago, I asked the medical assistant if she could calculate if I was underweight. She said I was within the normal BMI range "but on the cusp of underweight." So, I ate some more sweets around Christmas and gained five pounds! Poor me... having to eat vegan eggnog and gingerbread cupcakes to gain weight! 😃
What’s the problem? Look at the seating, it’s for a CONVERSATION. If you want a lecture or monologue it would be in an auditorium or one of doc’s videos.

Self respect, discipline and work ethic go along way. Nobody needs a PhD to get fit.

I would do 30 min on the stair master, free weights, then another 30 on the stair master. And grab a bag of tacos on the way home…
