Beautiful communication and cooperation is the first thing I see here. Lovely to see a family working calmly together with no bickering or ordering. After that, I'm a Bee keeper wanna be. Watching as many vids as possible and learning as much as I can before moving home and being in a place where I will have space and time to start a couple of hives. Thank you for this one.
Tim from Canada suggestions. if you have your swarm and it is high enough but low enough you can get to it suggestions are two ladders that are about the same height and then a couple of 2 by 4s or 2 by6s as a rails on your ladders then putting your box under your B swarm, this will give you another set of hands with this be possible in a case where your swarm is low enough to the ground, but high enough, you cannot get to it just a suggestion just started watching your program. Very interesting thank you very much for this. I am always interested in new stuff and this is quite the education. Thank you again.
I saw bee keepers pull the branch once, so all the bees fell down. Next to the hive was a white plate near the entrance. The bees walked up this ramp, straight into the hive. Your technique is great too.
What a fantastic video! And as a side note, I just love the way those eco-treated hives look, and to follow up on his whole "have a box ready " mentality, about two years ago I found 2 swarms in our orchard. I needed a jacket. I live 30 minutes from their store. In the time it took me to drive to the store and back home both swarms where gone. It always pays to be ready.
Thanks Shane! Yes it definitely pays to be prepared. We caught this one just at the perfect time and got lucky to find the queen so early in the catch. At least you have the jacket now, so next time it happens you'll be ready too! 😊
This is why I watch your videos. In all the videos I have watched I've never seen a single one take as much care and time catching a swarm. It's wonderful the way you and your sweet family work together. What a team. Loved it. Susan NW Georgia
Aww, thank you Susan. We genuinely do care about our bees. They've been very good to us, so we try to be good to them in return. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We appreciate you!
Thank you. All of your videos are very informative and easy to follow. This one was just down right cool. Momma and Miss Cora are some good helpers too. 👍😉
Thank you again! I just had a hive swarm on me this morning just before I was going to split them. This is my first Spring with Wintered over bees. You made it look soooo easy! I was able to get mine in an empty hive box I purposely left in the beeyard. Learned many lessons.
Good advice, last year there was a Big swarm by my hives and while I was scrambling to get a box prepared, (2 more minutes) my oldest son sitting in his truck with my 2 grandsons rolls his window down an yells,,, Dad hurry they are leaving. We sat there stunned watching them fly off
So I had two swarms in my front yard last week...in the same tree...and I think from the same "wild" hive that I want try and get out of a power box in my front yard. I got one captured and making a home in a new super, but the second...the minute I touched the limb the day after capturing the first one...reswarmed and was gone in seconds not to be seen again. 😢 But I got the one as a total new-bee with no experience. I am so happy to have them safe and in a good home I can keep an eye on.
Nice to see the whole family welcome another swarm at home in the garden with you, Personally, I have to wait a few more weeks before bees in my first and only hive wake up and I start flying to collect pollen & nectar here in central Sweden off the coast < 3
Hello Sweden! We are so fortunate to have our family help us in the bee yard. Wouldn't do it without them. Good luck on your catch this year! Please let us know how it goes. Thanks for commenting!
I agree. Best part of the video. Why not use a queen clip, though? How do you know she didn't fly out while you were collecting her swarm? Kinda defeats the queen entrance guard if the box is wide open and unattended...
i got up Sunday Easter morning Guess what i seen hanging from a low limb👀 😆 Yep a 8 lbs swarm of Kona Hawaiian Bees Easy to get a bucket with a lid, some sugar water sprayer, and shears > That was it
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply Yes i do! 😁 Hawaiian honey bees are worth more than gold. and it was just hanging from the tree ! It was a rush, to get em b4 they flew off ~ 👀🎁👍 cheers buddy
I am just wondering how far those phermones can be detected by bees? That hive was moved a fair stretch. Wonderful video I love you super calm energy in the whole family even the dog and great job filming trainee bee keeper you did a good job getting your folks and the bees in the shot.
You got you a nice swarm there I know I've got a peach tree out there next to my bees yard and I've had seven swarms landing and two of them my swarms and I got five Wild swarms at that Peachtree 7 I lost two swarms had one in the box and was getting ready to put them in the box and they flew off they started swarming again they went to the woods good luck with them brother have a blessed day
Re. your seven swarms. I know of a few places that have attracted swarms over time. There is an undiscovered science there.. similar to water divining. 🇦🇺
Wow that's a lot of activity! Hard to keep up with that many bees when swarming. Good luck in the next few days, hopefully you'll catch them all! Thanks so much for the comment, Claude!
Wow that's cool! Bees definitely have an interesting way of doing things. Someday we hope to fully understand everything they do, but some things remain a "theory". Haha!
Man that’s cheating...we never get low hanging ones...we always get the ones you have to get the ladder or man lift for😂😂and like someone else said I would have just shook them In front, then IMO they go in on their own, but my favorite part of the swarm is when they decide to March in the box! No more beautiful site to me! 💕💞great video!!
Why you not put a sheet on the ground before shaking the swarm so you can see the bees that fall on the ground instead in the box? So much easier to see.
I usually don't have much time for extra set up when I find a swarm, and so far I haven't needed one. I don't disagree with you at all. Thanks for comment and for watching!
if the queen is slimmed down enough so she can fly i dont think that putting a bit of queen excluder over the entrance will prevent her from leaving until she fattens up. then it will work.
Appreciate the comment, but a virgin queen typically can't escape the excluder. Her thorax is too large. Perhaps if your excluder had a bent rod or something, but in most cases she's already too large by the time she's old enough to take flight.
Such a fine swarm !!! I totally agree everyone Loves a swarm. Blessings to you all.... Rick
Same to you, Rick!

Great camera work young Lady! Great video folks!
Thank you very much! We appreciate you watching.
Love the commentary it's great that you and your bride work together like that.
Thank you! John and Corinne definitely work well together. It helps when you love your partner a whole lot. ❤️

The lessons learned make it so much easier for the next time. We're super glad to hear that you're doing well on your beekeeping journey. Good luck!
That's a blessing...a low hanging swarm and assistants! Thanks for sharing,
Yes it is! We love our family so much and we're thankful to get to work with them so often.
Very nice video. The both of you work well together 👍🏾
Thanks Robert!
That was an amazing video. Very well done with the family.
Greatest bit of tree pruning I’ve seen in a long time.
Haha, thanks Mark! It's all part of the job. 😂

It's amazing how quickly it happens, huh? Always pays to have a containment apparatus handy. :-)

Just as if you had done this before Corinne and John! To top it off Cora was so interested and helped! Fantastic job!
Haha we may have done it a few times here and there. 😉 Cora did an excellent job and we're so happy she was there to experience this.
Great team work. Compliments to the young video person. In Australia, heading into winter.. can't wait till my swarm season (Sept/Oct).🇦🇺
Thanks Jim! And hello Australia! We hope to hear all about your bee journey as time progresses. Good luck this winter!
I agree. Best part of the video.

Great job. Thanks for sharing that.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great work. It’s a beautiful thing when you can capture them. :) stay safe.
Always a deep sigh of relief to get them into a box, for sure. 😊
I want a few beehives, pretty cool video. Thanks for sharing
You can do it! Thanks for watching.
Count on it, Thanks again*
You guys did an amazing job. congrats. You will want to get that hive up off the ground soon, yet congrats on catching such a great size swarm.
Thanks Brad. As you can see at the end of the video, John moves the swarm to an elevated platform with our other boxes. Thanks for watching!
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply I saw. Spoke too soon
Another great video John
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you watching.
I feel better about my swarm catch now. I did like you did and it worked out. After a couple days she's laying and they're building comb.
Love to hear that, Jon. We're glad they're doing great. Sounds like you have it under control.
The swarms are my favourite too!
It's exciting!
Enjoyed this!! Thank you!! Great swarm!!
Thank you! We appreciate you watching!
i got up Sunday Easter morning Guess what i seen hanging from a low limb👀 😆 Yep a 8 lbs swarm of Kona Hawaiian Bees Easy to get a bucket with a lid, some sugar water sprayer, and shears > That was it
What a nice surprise! Don't you just love that rush?
@@CentralBeekeepersSupply Yes i do! 😁 Hawaiian honey bees are worth more than gold. and it was just hanging from the tree ! It was a rush, to get em b4 they flew off ~ 👀🎁👍 cheers buddy

Thanks so much!
It's wonderful, I would like like to apply this in my bee yard
Give it a whirl and let us know how you end up! Thanks so much for the comment.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a hard time zipping up the veil
Haha, doesn't seem to matter what brand of jacket, we always have trouble with the zippers. 😂
Impressive catch! This was by far the most gentle catch I've ever seen! ❤
Thank you Carol. We always try to be careful with the girls. :-)
It helps to have some solid backup!
Ain't that the truth! Thanks for watching!
Another great video. Always mean to ask, is that roll roofing under your hives?
Yes it is! Rolled out over a piece of metal roofing, gravel side up.
I really like the excluder at the entrance idea. I think I would have shook the bees at the entrance, in case there were more queens.
Great job, suggestion, place a sheet over the grass before placing your equipment down.
That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing!
daughter did a great job filming
She did indeed! Thanks for watching, Rick!
Awesome my dream, catch a swarm. Nicely done
It's a great experience and we recommend it to everyone. Beekeeping is such a rewarding activity Thanks for the comment, Milly!
Yes, I just started my journey a month ago.
Nice good team work.i catch one last week from one that i did not split.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Nice! Congrats on your catch!
Put down a white sheet first, helps alot. Nice work!
Great tip! Thanks for watching!
Lovely video.
Thank you George!
Awesome swarm. Looked like it was 6 or 7 pounds of bees
You're probably right. It was a solid chunk for sure!

Smooth retrieval!
Thank you! Sometimes you get lucky and it goes smoothly. :-)
Nice I have found 3 queens in one swarm before. The swarm usually follows a certain queen in my experiences
Wow that's cool! Bees definitely have an interesting way of doing things. Someday we hope to fully understand everything they do, but some things remain a "theory". Haha!
pruners a must carry item
Absolutely true, my friend!

Haha, right? We were extremely fortunate to catch this one so low on the tree. Thanks for watching. ;-)
I wondered why you don't just shake the limb and drop them all in the box at once. Not being snarky, really wondered.
I love swarms too!!!!!!!
So much fun!
17:50 ahahaa awesome 😂
😊 🐝

I put a white sheet down to make sure I don't lose a queen. They are always last.
I must be lazy I would have stuck a bucket or pillow case up around them and shook and dumped them in box but great job thought
That method definitely works! Thanks for watching, Shane.
Cora is speaking alot more on camra
She's slowly getting more and more bold. Next thing you know she'll be on her own channel. :-)
