Piano skills for techno artists

When pianists use the sustain pedal, they're basically applying an LFO on the decay/release time of their sound design. As electronic musicians we can use this knowledge to design synth sounds that use an LFO to modulate their expression, breathing life and subtle instability into an otherwise digital sound.

This week I want to give “10 CLS - Dreaming” the spotlight. 10 CLS is a relatively new alias from Ophidian, a Hardcore legend. The Album “RUN”, which this track is taken from, is really divers and features a lot of experimental stuff. If you want to go a little bit harder than definitely check out Ophidian’s stuff. His tracks fall into the “Industrial Hardcore” genre, therefore feature very distorted kicks but also beautiful melodies. “Ophidian - Butterfly VIP” is probably his most famous track, which features one if not the best piano melody ever, in my opinion.

interesting idea - I generally think of the sustain pedal as the release phase of the amp envelope (combined with envelope retrig)
