@@hansidk7200 we gained more questions than anything but later this year as long as u have lightfall there's a quest that explains certain things (This was said in the most recent twab)
Seeing oryx for the first time for scale in d1 during kings fall. Hearing this music kick in as his MASSIVE hand grabs the front of the room and pulls himself up to reveal how insanely huge he is. Gives me chills to this day
This doesn't play during King's Fall, this plays during the final mission of the campaign where you kill him then he retreats to his throne world where the Raid takes place. The music during the Oryx encounter in the raid is 'Last Stand'.
What’s interesting about Oryx is that unlike most villains who have this grand goal in mind and want it done now, he postpones his grand plan for one reason: YOU. In a previous storyline, you kill his eldest son, Crota. For context, Oryx and the rest of his family are supposedly immortal. Whenever they die, they reappear in a pocket dimension to regenerate. They only die for good if you kill them while in the dimension yourself. Not very many villains have a personal vendetta towards the player, which is why Oryx is so scary. (Edit: he also send spectators of himself to personally hunt you down.)
@@Azrael_Equinox Now in Ghosts of the Deep we learn Xivu Arath probably has a vendetta against us for killing Oryx but especially dishonoring him by not taking his throne after killing him.
I remember when I first faced him in the campaign. His "AT LAST! I WILL HAVE VENGEANCE!" gives me chills to this day and then the raid. Oh man the raid. King's Fall remains one of my top 3 even with D2 being in it's 6th year.
The slow decay that you were talking about could also be referencing the hunger of Oryx’s worm. When we go and face Oryx in the raid we’ve killed most of his court which means his sources of tribute are diminished which means in turn that Oryx can not feed his worm and so his worm starts to eat him.
Also how, as Savathun noted, the worms paradoxically grow hungrier the MORE you feed them, needing to do more and more to feed the nature they enforce upon their hosts. Savathun's lore entries while impersonating Osiris mentions how while in the Last City, just living as Osiris, her worm has never fed so well as it does then, but even as it's full to bursting, it's crying out for more and faster.
@@DaSuDanesi IIRC, she also tried tricking either her Worm or a different one by putting it in orbit around a blackhole (ala Interstellar) to trick it into thinking it was getting more in a shorter time, but the worm saw the deception and increased how much it needed.
@@DaSuDanesihis is also the focal point for Savathûn’s plot to “steal” the light. By serving herself as a supplicant to the Traveler, she could be revived in the name of the Light, where she would then trick us into reminding her of her memories she lost after her resurrection (after all, guardians have no memory of Before). Her worm was simply becoming too hungry. It wasn’t enough. With her revival by a Ghost and her gaining the Light, she gained immortality, no worm attached.
I still wish we could see his og campaign intro in d2, what a powerful scene back on old consoles. You step into his chambers, and into pitch black, and a white flame traces away into the darkness until it hits a door and inscribes it with his sigil as it moves to the sides. Then in the darkness you just barely see him, silhouetted by a penumbra, before he draws in all the darkness into himself and snaps around to face you with lighting returning to normal, draining your super as the fight starts "I will finish what Crota began!"
Still one of the greatest boss entrances in Destiny, especially when the music kicks in as the darkness wraps around him, oh man that gives me chills every time I watch it. Here it is if anyone is curious about it ua-cam.com/video/RNi4W6xDMKk/v-deo.html
This music still hits hard even as the years go by. I truly love the regality and the grandiose feelings that this song gives you. Even without playing the game and with no prior knowledge; this music paints a canvas of who Oryx is and begins to weave the tale of his story intertwined with ours. It's as if the world around you begins to darken as you feel the decent into the depths of the Dreadnought. Immediately you are drawn into the game the moment you hit the title screen, that is what I love about this song. Such great immersion right off the bat with no waiting around.
Regicide (the song played during the campaign boss fight with Oryx) and Last Stand (the song played during the raid boss fight with Oryx) both encapsulate the fear and suspense I remember experiencing each time I played and faced the Taken King. Destiny music never fails to disappoint!
As a strictly D2 Guardian, I didn't really understand what an impact Oryx made on the game until my first time in the King's Fall raid. When this song starts, and Oryx muscles his way into the arena, there were no words. All hail the King!
@@iballisticbee2285 Aetheon has a very cool intro, too. Unfortunately players miss it because they're doing last minute pre-encounter prep. Regicide commands us to attention with maximum drama. I'm so glad they brought it into Destiny 2.
I always loved the use of brass to describe something incredibly massive. The cabal use brass a ton and Rhulk and Oryx have this theme littered all over.
My personal favourite ost is the Sanctified mind's (garden of salvation finale boss) while Beyond light is packed FULL of fantastic music everywhere you go
To this very day, Regicide remains my favourite destiny song. Walking in to oryx’s throne room in the campaign and hearing this track play gave me goosebumps. It really felt like the culmination of the entire year leading up to it, and the payoff was unforgettable. Thanks for reacting and breaking it down!!
Seeing Oryx surrounded in darkness while entering the boss room was so spine chilling to me when I first played. And then he picks up his sword and I felt fear. And then I was wondering what Grasp of the King did lol
Seeing Oryx in a raid setting for the first time is still one of my favourite memories. Thanks for giving me way more insight into a song I already absolutely loved.
Riven of a thousand voices is the actual OST, but Keep of Voices (Action) and Keep of Voices (High Action) are the choir versions. I think it could be interesting analyzing both versions because of the relationship of the Awoken with Riven and the taken
The Witness may be the mastermind behind it all, Rhulk may be the first Disciple, and Savathun may be the Queen of Lies… But Oryx shall always be KING!
yo the flashbacks from years ago playing this game. So good... wish i could re experience the game again... This expansion completely changed the game as they reworked alot of systems (for the better) so the game is at its peak at this expansion. Like cutscenes and music and story were extremely improved.
Oryx in the Taken King final campaign mission still has one of the coolest intros of the whole franchise with the light moving up to the door and then the shadow slowly revealing him
Regicide has always been my #1 pick for showing to other people when talking about Destiny’s music. Such a strong opening, and it just holds that throughout the entire runtime. Great analysis Marco!
Regicide is my favorite boss theme ever. So much story to it. PLus on Vinyl it sounds amazing alongside the Awoken soft vocal tracks. Such a good soundtrack overall. Definitely worth doing the Kings Fall Raid if you haven't. The updated graphics and lighting really elevates that raid.
Destiny's soundtrack was always one of my favourinte, and to this day, music never stops to amaze, be in old or new Thank you for reminding me, and many more in this community if this As Guardians, we cant wait to kill a god, and turn another into a weapon xD I am very exited to see what awaits us in the future of Destiny 2
Oh my god I love this track! Regicide is a masterpiece, I downloaded it from the official soundtrack and still listen to it! Does an excellent job of conveying a sense of dread!
Regicide campaign mission is still one of my favorites to this day. It just contains everything you wouldn't expect to see! Theme really hits hard during the fight.
I've been waiting for this day for so long! It brings back so many memories of fighting the king himself, and that small opening number as he rises from the depths of space, showing his new true size..its beautiful and horrifying. Thank you so much for taking a look at this, your truly amazing.
the amount of hype that was surrounded around that Taken King opening. the first day were the best chills i've ever gotten from a game. i love destiny man
Still the best song in Destiny history alongside the best expansion and final mission in Destiny History. Hell, TTK is the best Destiny has ever been or will ever be and I miss those times.. I wish we could go back.
Man I got such nostalgia and shivers when recently playing the kings fall raid in destiny 2, when you start that final encounter with Oryx and regicide starts playing as he rises up to face us, revealing his true massive form.
If you ever come back to Destiny music there's four songs I want you to listen to: Last Stand, a remix of Regicide used for the King's Fall raid, Cabal Stomp, a battle theme for the Cabal, Remembrance and Journey. They're all Destiny songs, but they vary *wildly* in the feeling from listening to them. Last Stand, well, feels like a last stand against Oryx. Cabal Stomp makes you fearful of the Cabal and their might, especially in the lore since they blow up planets just for getting in their way. Remembrance is a very nostalgic song that makes you think back to the good ol' days of Destiny. Journey is a sad and melancholic song after you've lost basically everything. You lost the Tower, the Traveller, all your items, everything, and this song represents that feeling.
One Request or Recommendation I'd love to see: "A God on Mars" a Destiny 2: Warmind Soundtrack. Would really love to hear what you have to say about that one!
"YOU ARE THE LAST HOPE OF THE LIGHT? YOU ARE NOT WORTHY TO FACE ME!" *Cue the Taken Ogre and Cabal Champions emerging from the portal, ready to wreck your frail gaurdian* [This is a real situation which we faced in D1 - I really do miss feeling.. For lsck of better words - "small" in Destiny. Im hoping that "Frontiers" once again gives us that feeling of being so small in a vast, desolate universe. I also hope that the Heresy Episode continues onto the Dreadnought's oppressive feeling, such massive rooms and dark, decrepit tunnels we burrow through to find another foe.]
We just got a new raid that came out today and I highly reccomend you listed to the boss music. It's called Oneirophobia and it's a great representation of the state of the story of Destiny as well of a caricature of Nezerec as a character.
I have discovered your channel for quite a while now and it never ceases to amaze me how diverse your content is in terms of the video game soundtracks you listen to - from Genshin to Arknights, to Monster Hunter, Terraria, Stellaris - and your ability to accurately interpret the themes and emotions in each piece is incredible (professional indeed!). Can't wait to see what your channel offers in the future! It is also my humble recommendation for you to have a listen to Monster Hunter Rise's Crimson Glow Valstrax Theme (among my personal all time favorites with the Fatalis Theme), your MH soundtrack analysis videos are very good! I am assuming you have lots on your schedule and it does seem that MH related content is off your channel's radar now, but that's okay! A suggestion is a suggestion after all :) All the best for you and your channel!
The feeling of descending you described feels like drowning to me, and when it lets out for a second its like getting just a small of breath of air before drowning again. I think that its just as about as defeating oryx, as about oryx drowning you in darkness which is what happens in the boss fight, iirc
Hey Marco, awesome video! I love seeing every analysis you have of games I’ve played. It really adds another layer to my enjoyment for them. I think you will really like hearing the void climb song from Hollow Knight. I think it’s really moving considering the scenario and backstory to the lore of the game. When I saw your city of tears video it made me think of this. Thanks for the awesome content as always!
At last, i will have vengeance, to this day is my favorite voice line from both destiny's, this song by itself is my favorite of all time. Oryx is the scariest ever man.
It perfectly encapsulates the fight. The dread of fighting this thing. The god king. Nearly synonymous with death itself as a concept. In single combat for the fate of the entire universe. His genocide is measured in thousands of worlds. And this fight is personal. No holding back
What sells the theme is Oryx shouting as the horns blare, Light warping around his body as he shouts. "AT LAST! I. WILL. HAVE. VENEGANCE!" "I will finish what Crota began..."
Haven’t played Destiny in…oof, three, maybe four years? Not since Season of the Drifter, so it’s been a bit. Even so, Regicide is still one of my favorite pieces of video game music of all time. Iconic bit of music, if you ask me.
You should react to final stand, The 2nd time we face Oryx after he consumes his power from the sword he once wielded. You really hear his power and anger in that one
For full context, this is the ost that played in Destiny 1 when fighting Oryx in the campaign. If you wanna listen to the raid fight theme, The Last Stand is the one, and it is also really good
This is also used in the raid. We are literally doing what the title is saying. fun fact: raid music tend to be referenced in song titles. Last Stand isn't the theme its this and a soft mix of last stand only when enrage happens. Just like how The First Disciple is the boss tune to Rhulk; and Oneirophobia is Nezarec's. This is his tune played in the D1 campaign and literally in the first instance Oryx pops his face out in the raid. Goes to show you never really paid attention to the music or assume something out of your ass. Get your ears check at the same time.
All these videos make me feel like I am missing out big time by not playing Destiny. I am seriously planning to start it someday with a friend so that I can witness the glorious music for myself along with the awesome story that it brings.
@@MarcoMeatball Ah, I guess that's a little sad but there's still a lot of music in Destiny 2 that I have yet to listen. So I am really looking forward to that and Thank You Marco for introducing me to all these new and amazing different worlds of music! Have a good day!
You can, actually! Maybe not the entire song, but the beginning of Regicide lies in Oryx’s boss fight at the end of the remastered King’s Fall raid in Destiny 2, and Last Stand (the raid Oryx theme) is still there. The legendary music still awaits, new light, you’ll make it.
This is the theme for Oryx in the Regicide story mission. Where we kill his physical form. Last Stand is the theme for Oryx in the King's Fall raid. Where we kill his ascendant form, which kills him for good.
Wr never killed his physical form in the regicide mission. It goes to a cut scene where he takes himself. In the kings fall raid, that was in the physical realm as after we beat him, his body drifts towards saturn away from the dreadnought. Now Iightfall, savathun dropped a hint that "the taken king will rise again" We never killed his ascendant form...
@@JJsGA It says in the wormfood lore book that his throne in the dreadnaught, if not the entire dreadnaught, is his throne world. Due to us killing our way up his court, he was facing us alone in his ascendant form. We know that his ascendant form died because his throne world disintegrated and the physical dreadnaught is rotting away in space right now.
You should honestly check out the Red War stuff when destiny 2 first released. Dominus Ghaul's theme is one of my personal favorites alongside Regicide.
Not sure if anything can top Journey, but guess we won't find out unless we keep trying hehe. Anyways, I'm also going to recommend the soundtrack for Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, developed by ACE Team with the soundtrack composed by Patricio Meneses. They recently uploaded the entire soundtrack to their official UA-cam channel, with "The boy calls" and "Pseudo's theme" being some initial standout tracks. It seems to be drawing inspiration from spaghetti westerns, martial arts movies and who knows what else. Clash as a game is pretty intriguing, being set in the same punk-fantasy setting as two of ACE Team's previous games, Zeno Clash 1 and 2. Filled with plenty of strange inhabitants who seem mainly preoccupied with beating the crap out of each other.
Another great analysis as always, although I've been wondering if you've heard anything from (or, well, heard of, either or) project moon's games? The music in those games are always fantastic, but the vocal tracks are just on another level. Not only do they sound great, they're always full of such meaning and emotion, it would be really fun to see you listen and pick apart a few of the songs. If anything, "Between Two Worlds" from Limbus Company would be fantastic to have an analysis of, it has to be, by far, my favorite song in one of their games.
Hey Marco you really really really got to do blood upon the snow from God of War Ragnarok. It's an absolutely beautiful piece especially the extended OST version
Well this music is definetly how we picture him in battle big bad guy and have many arsenal that he can throw at us and like we decent to the dark side
Try giving honor for all from dishonored a listen, that song hit hard in the credits and has such a dark and somber sound to it. would love to hear you pick it apart.
Talking about the tension in half steps; from someone who studied electrical engineering and not music theory, have you ever walked on a staircase that has way more steps than it should? Like you know you can walk up and down fine but how little and how fast you need to move to not change your momentum can make you feel like you're about to trip if you're not careful. Possibly the same energy. Cant fully plant your feet so you have to be more aware of it. That's just my random ass thought lol. I love Oryx, still one of my favorite antagonists in destiny.
In my opinion, this is the best DLC Destiny ever had. It's in this point where the world and lore opened up exponentially and made the Destiny the game we all play and love. This was the moment that cemented your place as THE Guardian in the game and lore. Though in my opinion, the Last Stand is a far superior OST to the Regicide. 11/10 would slay another Hive god

Glad you like them!
I definitely recommend the track "Last stand" also from the taken king. Think you would love the suspense throughout it
Man i always get chills when it starts
This was my first every raid and this raid will forever be special to me
Been waiting for him to listen to this one for a while now, it’s my favorite.
They meshed the beginning of regicide with last stand when fighting oryx. It's such a good combo
The feeling of descending you described feels like drowning to me, and when it lets out for a second its like getting just a small of breath of air before drowning again. I think that its just as about as defeating oryx, as about oryx drowning you in darkness which is what happens in the boss fight, iirc
Kell rising, remembrance, shadow thief, surge of light, cabal breach and of course bow to no one are all from the taken king ost
Always loved Oryx from a design and a lore point of view. He commands respect through presence alone.
Regicide is my all time favorite destiny soundtrack. There are others on its level like the rose but imo regicide is still the best.
Hey man great video. Why don't you try Oneirophobia next? I think you'll really like it... (it's an ost from the new Lightfall expansion)
I will double back on everything Lightfall related as soon as I'm moved and can play it and then hell ya
I keep forgetting to include hollow knight!!!
The Oryx encounter music is called "Last Stand" - basically the same melody, but high action.
Loving the boss theme for the new raid, its called Oneirophobia on the Lightfall ost
unfortunately the best part of the song isnt in the official version??? If you look up oneirophobia (action) on youtube it should be at 1:20
At last, i will have vengeance, to this day is my favorite voice line from both destiny's, this song by itself is my favorite of all time.
No holding back
Oh, Taken King days take me back!
What sells the theme is Oryx shouting as the horns blare, Light warping around his body as he shouts.
"AT LAST! I. WILL. HAVE. VENEGANCE!"
"I will finish what Crota began..."
Yeah
Kamil Orman-Janowski. Listen to any of his fine works he did for the game Path of Exile. Marvelous composer!!!
On my to do list
Yes. Thank you
Definitely hoping you react to Last Stand at some point, still my favorite final raid boss theme to date
god the "ATLAST, I, WILL, HAVE, VENGENCE!"
Fighting him in the campaign is easily the BEST boss intro ever
YOUR TRAVELERS LIGHT CAN NOT REACH YOU HERE
What I wouldn't give to go back in time and play this DLC for the first time all over again
Same honestly
All these videos make me feel like I am missing out big time by not playing Destiny. I am seriously planning to start it someday with a friend so that I can witness the glorious music for myself along with the awesome story that it brings.
Sadly you won't be able to experience this since it's from destiny 1 but maybe you still could
@@MarcoMeatball Ah, I guess that's a little sad but there's still a lot of music in Destiny 2 that I have yet to listen.
Now Iightfall, savathun dropped a hint that "the taken king will rise again"
We never killed his ascendant form...
@@minaryte5669 assuming then that bungie isn't about to retcon that...
You should honestly check out the Red War stuff when destiny 2 first released. Dominus Ghaul's theme is one of my personal favorites alongside Regicide.
Ahhhh. Oryx, il re dei corrotti, voleva vendetta ma ha trovato solo la rovina.
Aspettavo questo video, grandissimo Marco!
God I’d love to see you react and examine some other destiny 1 themes like Last Array or Eye of the Gate lord
Great video! Please react to Oneirophobia next, it’s the boss theme for the new raid and it’s amazing!
This makes me so happy!!!
Ooo please do last stand next, it's the final theme for oryx during his raid battle
still one of my favorite pieces from any of the Destiny scores
Marco you should absolutely listen to Fathomless Tomb from Deep Rock Galactic, its a pretty long song but absolutely beautiful
When i can!
You should also listen to Last Stand too, his theme when you fight him in the raid
This Tune is just so brilliant
Love this game and this expansion so much
*"no..... Gather them....... I will take them all.... "-Oryx the Taken King*
One off the main reasons taken king for me was one off the best raids and expansions
You gotta listen to Aksis archon prime from destiny 1! It’s my favorite song in the whole franchise!
The raid ost of The Taken King is called final stand would recommend
Another great analysis as always, although I've been wondering if you've heard anything from (or, well, heard of, either or) project moon's games? The music in those games are always fantastic, but the vocal tracks are just on another level. Not only do they sound great, they're always full of such meaning and emotion, it would be really fun to see you listen and pick apart a few of the songs. If anything, "Between Two Worlds" from Limbus Company would be fantastic to have an analysis of, it has to be, by far, my favorite song in one of their games.
My personal favorite in TTK ost is Remembrance
Hey Marco you really really really got to do blood upon the snow from God of War Ragnarok. It's an absolutely beautiful piece especially the extended OST version
Ye! And those KI tracks!
@@MarcoMeatball awesome you remembered. The entire Killer Instinct OST is amazing honestly I can't remember the ones I've already recommended to you
Well this music is definetly how we picture him in battle big bad guy and have many arsenal that he can throw at us and like we decent to the dark side
Recommendation: “Zone of Enders” ost specifically Beyond the Bounds or kiss me sunlights?
Oh ya! That's super cool i agree. Thanks for sharing.
I agree that taken king was an amazing expansion.
