Fun fact: the invisible game credits randomize each time, to prevent estimating how far you are through it.
D:
Couldn't they do it through the music though?
Yeah, but that’s definitely harder
me: *laugh in completely memorized ending music*
also me: *crying in never played invisible ending*
@@r3ked272 with how much you're needing to focus on already, between piece colors, next piece sounds (which are happening quite fast at this point), memorizing where you placed them and how they were rotated, focusing on the what point the music is at isn't exactly feasible
Considering there are what, less than ten people who have achieved GM rank in Tetris The Grandmaster 3, to my knowledge? Yeaaah, those people are ridiculously skilled for a reason.
This blows my frigging mind.
Seven, last time I checked!

Cool stolen comment from tumblr awards lmao

Tetris: The Grandmaster has that effect on most people who witness it.
rasmus degn It just makes me feel worthless
I remember my tetris when i was 6. And after so many years i saw how people play tetris at AGDQ. Woah, just, woah.
Indeed. TGM is something else. It's quickly become my favorite Tetris game. Sadly I can't get any further than S2, but I can get there in like 4m 30s or so which isn't too bad.
The Fury Artist I can't get past 4 ;-; and the highest level I have gotten to is around 508 so I still have a long way to go
Meanwhile I'm 1 qualified on TGM3. (that's not actually that good)

Welcome to TGM3 Jason. It is (currently) the single hardest tetris game out there. The creators wanted to make it damn near impossible to be given the rank of grand master. In TGM 1 and 2 all you had to do was get a grand master rank after beating the game to be considered a grand master. But in TGM3 it has a ranking system where you have to consistently perform well and then have a rank up test. And if you rank up to grand master, only then can you be called a grand master of TGM3. If I'm remembering correctly, so far only 6 people in the world have achieved grandmaster ranking in TGM3. And the developers of the game are supposedly working on TGM4 which will be even harder to achieve grandmaster in.
Yup. And downrank exams if you're not performing on the par of the grade you are currently assigned in the game. And, you don't really get a say as to when the exams come up. You just play and after some number of games where you perform above/below your current assigned grade the game will give you the exam. That's what I think is so crazy about the game, is that it is constantly assessing your performance from run to run as well as in each run.
On the TGM4 thing: apparently, there was work put on it, but there is a "Tetris Guideline" games aspiring to use the name and logo and to become official must adhere to. TGM and TGM4 especially broke a good majority of them, which hurt publishing. The last that TGM4 was ever heard of was as TGM2015, but that also faced the same issues.
it's nothing to do with any licensing or guideline issues
@@OliverTC Then what is it? I read on the wiki that was the reason
which wiki? TGM4 is and always has been an issue of Arika trying to find a company willing to publish and distribute the game. originally it was to be SEGA who were going to publish it on their RingWide hardware, but this fell through assumedly due to them releaseing Tetris Giant at the same time and wanting to focus on that. since then Arika have been trying and failing to find someone else who is willing to help them out and able to work out a deal for it (for example, ARC System Works were also considered recently, but the companies were unable to reach an agreement)
funny that's just the Tetris song but Jason makes some faces during the video as if he's playing the greatest heavy metal
Yo, Sampling Masters go hard as hell though
I heard a lot of old Techno stuffs that reminded me of Ridge Racer.
Definitely some Nostalgia there, especially of spending quarter after quarter on Rave Racer...
@@AmyraCarter It's the same team behind various songs in various Ridge Racer games.
Yo I legit was to interested in the Tetris gameplay that I forgot to look at the chart
Yeah; I too mainly watched the Tetris footage hodgepodge. I love Tetris, always and forever.
If you read this, and are actually interested, this is just "from top of my head" notes about TTGM3:
- Made by people who loved arcade tetris in japan and were part of the scene, some special ends like drawing a zigzag with uncompleted lines grants you a special clear as it was a show-off thing Sega Tetris players did - that just the makers of TTGM series.
- The game requires you to get certain milestones that are never told, you just have to learn them (as community) to advance to more advanced parts of the gameplay. You will end up in end credits before even seeing some of the crazy parts of the MASTER course you see in this video. This includes certain number of Tetris (four line) clears, and score.
- At around half-way onward the player is already playing with INFINITE gravity so the blocks are almost immediately at bottom of the screen and the game from that point also keeps making piece lock timer tighter and tighter.
- Yes, the game fudges with the player at one point by drawing them as blocks: [ ] like some oldest versions (I think it is even a callback to very first version of tetris that was drawn as alphanumeric characters as the first computer it was made for had just that little power or color) - color these days is a little crucial for processing without thought - things like what piece is next on top of the screen, quicker processing of J vs. L piece or Z versus S piece.
- And then it makes it also invisible. They also randomize the game makers while scrolling them to make it so you cannot be sure as a player how long it will go on still.
- Through all this the gravity is still infinite, the lock-in rule is at it's tightest, and you STILL have few goals you need to get a COOL from in the darn invisible mode to have a CHANGE at the highest rank of the game, as that requires several attempts in the same arcade machine by same user to even qualify for it.
-Grandmaster 4 was in works and apparently very far in some stages but it was not finished or released because the makers thought it was too hard. The same makers who made and released 3.
TL;DR TTGM3 TERROR INSTINCT is serious business
Also, there is ONE american (or overall, non-japanese) guy who has achieved GRAND MASTER in TTGM3 TERROR INSTINCT.
His name is Kevin-DDR online and funny enough, the same guy is a DDR or Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania IIDX insane-level player too at least in his history, to bring TTGM back to music game again(!)
I heard by some people that GM4 was unreleased due of license issue with Tetris Company. I don't think they did said that GM4 is too hard, though.
TGM4 is unreleased due to publishing issues, nothing to do with The Tetris Company or that "they thought it was too hard"
@@OliverTC From what I read in other comments, SEGA was supposed to publish TGM4, but they dropped it. Despite their best efforts, ARIKA hasn't been able to find another publisher.

To correct a mistake made in the Twitch chat...
No, you do not need to get 10 Tetrises in the credits roll. Typical GM credits rolls usually only have 2 Tetrises, give or take. But you are graded within the roll, and the more lines you clear the better. I could go into detail, but that would make a very long comment indeed.
2 tetrises would SERIOUSLY be pushing it. As you need to obtain 6 grades in the roll. That would mean you'd have to get 3 more grades in singles/doubles/triples which give far, far less points than a tetris would.
But you need to manage 4 out of 7 MM games in a row to even unlock GM
4 out of 7 GM-worthy games (it appears as MM post-game, when really it's a GM grade hiding.) MM will only get you an MM exam.
It looks like you now how this game judges, can you help me? I just got to level 500 and it said I wasn't good enough to keep going, but I can't find the requirements for going higher level 500. I know you need to do something, like get some cools, do it in time etc. What is it exactly?
If you’re talking about Shirase mode, you can’t get past level 500 unless your total time up to that point is under 2 minutes 28 seconds on Classic rule or 3 minutes 3 seconds on World rule.
Tetris the Grand Master is just insane. Everyone should check the GDQ runs of these games if they really want to get their minds blown.
Its so cool to see someone get impressed by just the early parts of this, i face people every day with skill in about the middle of the video (and every once in a while people with unparalleled skill just kick my ass), but i remember when i first started playing being impressed by things that i do without thinking now, its kinda cool to see that in other people now
Allow me to fully explain. This mode that you just saw is known as Shirase mode. Shirase is a Japanese word that roughly translates to "omen of doom". The endgame of Shirase moves over twice the speed of normal Tetris the Grand Master 3, where each block from spawn to locking in place is literally 7 frames. In a 60 fps game. From "level" 1000 onwards, the colors are removed and replaced with the bracket blocks, which is the absolute maximum speed the game goes. No animations for line clearing, you just play. Should you survive this, you are treated to the same credits challenge that those that qualify for Grand Master in the Master mode go through: once a block is locked, it is invisible. You have to remember your stack, and keep it up. In Shirase the credits sequence has no bearing on ranking as far as I know, however it does in Master mode. In order to achieve Grand Master, you need to do this credits sequence, where blocks are a more manageable 15 frames, and need to get a line score of 60. Every line clear is 1 to 1, except for a tetris, which is worth 10. If you want to see your mind blown, check out a TGM block from any Games Done Quick marathon, you WON'T be disappointed.
Shirase Lv1200 has a lock delay of 8 frames. Which is as fast as the game ever gets. As for the credit roll, Shirase players are treated to a Big Monochrome roll at a speed at Lv300 Shirase. Also there are delays for line clears in Shirase (4 frame line clear, 3 frame line ARE) however it is so short it's hard to even notice them.
Also, you need to do the invisible tetris bit 7 times in a row without failing at master level to even qualify for GM
..You sure about that? That's not how promotional exams work at all. You'd need to do it at least 4 times to qualify (your best 4 out of 7 last games has to be higher than your current qualified grade) and then you'll have a 'chance' to get a promotional exam. Once you perform at that level during an exam, you'll become a qualified Grand Master. Only then can you attain the Grand Master grade in normal play.
You're right, I was mis-remembering
As a Tetris: The Grandmaster player, it makes me laugh him trying to understand what is happening in the background xD
You are a god for managing this absolutely LUDICROUS challenge...
As a former top player, I second this.

Thanks for the upload, Jason. One of my rabbits just died, and watching this video improved my mood by a lot. Thanks so, so much.
This is like watching 2 war masters engaging the enemy on two different fronts.
Fucking awesome.
The composers of Tetris The Grandmaster also worked on the soundtracks of the Street Fighter EX Series! Both were made by Arika!
It goes beyond even that. Ayako Saso and Shinji Hosoe are also responsible for several rhythm game ball-busters including but not limited to: Son of Sun from the DJMax games and Bang Bang Groove and Voodoo Gooroo from Superbeat Xonic under their name as a duo the Sampling Masters.
ZacJackleReala why do you have a Jason mii as your pfp?
TGM3 has a pretty good ost. The charts, gameplay, and reaction did it justice.
The modes you were seeing were the 2 most difficult modes, Master and Shirase.
At the end of Master (silver border), you can get a fading credit roll if your grade isn't high enough; however, if your grade is high enough (~M9), then you get the invisible pieces in the credits.
At Level 1000+ in Shirase mode (blood-red border), the pieces go colorless. The ending credits roll is different in Shirase than in Master. BTW, Shirase is Japanese for "premonition of death."
Also, Terra is SO CUTE!

TGM3 is very brutal (and very snarky)
To get GM in this game, you need to first get a GM Promotional Exam, which requires that 4 of your 7 previous games having a grade performance deemed higher than MM. Then you have to get it once more during the promotional exam.
To give you an idea of what you need to do, you need to receive 17 boosted grades from stacking Tetrises, achieved all section cools and survive the credits roll with at least 6 grade points.
Section Cools have an internal time limit hardcoded to the first 899 levels, where it’s triggered at the 70th level of a section. If you triggered a section cool, the next section cool must be achieved no slower than two seconds of the previous section cool time. Credits roll gives fixed grade points depending of the type of credits roll it is.
[Keep in mind, you need to do this a minimum of 5 times, where 4 such attempts are within the last 7 games you played.]
By the way, the game doesn’t display whether if you got GM during regular rounds if you have not gotten GM yet, so you may not even realize your games could have been GM-worthy.
i find really annoying how people only cared about speed when they can't see the real pain that is surviving the max speed, on top of that, i really doubt most of them know the existence of infinite gravity.
*_Yes. I love Tetris._*
That has to be some of the mot impressive Tetris playing I have ever seen.
That is blowing my mind too.Keep going make videos!
I am loving the beat.
Oh yeah, the two players...
The first is perhaps one of THE best TGM3 players in the world, his name being KAN. An absolute monster of the game, that gameplay from him (14) is his world record run. Take a watch at the whole thing sometime, it's crazy fast with virtually no mistakes. He's one of the six or seven GMs worldwide.
The second is one of the few MM ranking players, his whole name being Nahuel. A very respectable player in his own right. I think he's one of only four or five currently sitting at MM, the rank just before GM. Obviously that gameplay is from one of his older complete runs (Rank S13), but then again, a lot of Shirase gameplay would be way too fast.
imagine the nerves tho
I had to watch this twice, once for each game.

And boom, FC for Jason
The tip number 8 made me cry
high level tetris
z2sam You know right
Okay, let me tell you what is happening
In Tetris Grand Master 3: Terror Instinct there’s 4 different modes
Easy: the easy version of master mode
Saklura: it’s where you need to clear block in a limited amount of time
Master: in master, you are going to play in a higher rank than your current rank, The rank goes in the following rank from least to greatest:
9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9, m1, m2, m3, m4, m5, m6 ,m7, m8, m9, Master, Master K, Master V, Master O, Master M, Grand Master
You will play 7 games and to get a promotional exam, you would have to get 4/7 games at least a higher rank base on your performance , after you cleared master, you have to clear the staff roll, the staff roll is where the tetriminos become invisible until the end of the staff roll. You need to clear a number of lines in the staff roll to get the rank that you where qualified, but if you failed, then your rank will be a lower rank than the previous rank
Shirace: It starts at an insane speed and gets faster, but in stead of 999 levels, you have to clear 1300 levels, and once you reach level 1000 the tetrminos will become in the 1984 version of the tetrminos (or something like this:[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ])
[ ][ ][ ]

That game pushes limits for sure.

For anyone who is watching this and hasn't used Twitch, wondering why he was so surprised by that "10,000 bit cheer,"
10,000 bits translates to $100.
Whoever made this chart is a genius :)
You have to watch this video 3 times, once for the chart, once for the tetris gameplay, and a third for the chat.
that guy playing tetris in the background could dodge a bullet in real life with such good reflex
Pretty neat chart that's a medley of all the songs that play in TGM3. It's definitely nice to marathon all of it at once as TGM does have some great music.
Not all of them, yet the main 6 songs plus the 'harder' clear song. There is still the 'easier' clear song, all the Sakura songs (including the unused ones) and the VS song.
You're right, this is more like a playlist of all the tracks that play in Master mode. Would be pretty cool to see other charts from TGM or even other themed charts that sync to the different songs in other games' gameplay recordings.
Dang... that gameplay though. I can go as fast as level 20+ on Tetris: DS and carry that for about 3-4 hours at the same tempo before I actually have problems thinking and have to take a break. (Kind of like that giant challenge thing you did a while ago) The gameplay in the background did that and then a lot more. Sweet accuracy with watching chat, and the song, and the gameplay tho
Now do the Secret Grade.
I love watching good tetris players play, it's so satisfying lol
Kilarth MAC Once your good at hard dropping it becomes really satisfying to play as well
Idk what’s more satisfying, the Tetris gameplay or the Guitar Hero gameplay
Those pieces dropping faster than my confid- I mean what.
Now I see... A future set of tracks (that are stacked) to be in my playlist... As you can see, I didn't play tetris much :v (tetris soundtracks sound so nice :3)
Reading these comments I guess it maybe looks unusual, but I was actually really amazed by your guitar skill and precision, probably because I am more familiar with Tetris :D Great video!
Ah how i miss tetris...and jason most players do play that way at times slamming blocks like that tetris is very interesting on the history as well

My soul hurts.
Look at all those Original Tetris references!!!
That is what high-level Tetris looks like? Holy hell...
The Tetris game looks like a single piece is dancing to the music
It's like samurai jack up in here.
A little late on explaining this, but the BGMs are different based off the mode you play within the game. The ones showed here are Master and Shirase mode.
Master mode uses the first 3 songs used, as it progresses, while Shirase uses the third through 6th songs as it progresses, the pacing can be atteibuted to the tempo of the songs, and as it jumps to the 4th, you can even see that its someone else's gameplay, and the border changes to red to reflect the selection of Shirase mode.
This also helps explain the continuity error in the credit roll song at the end jumps back to having colored blocks, as the invisible blocks only happens in Master mode, when going for the GrandMaster Rank
SUCH FUNK
MUCH MUSIC
WOW
In grand master there is an audio imput that lets you know what block you get.
1:10 - If you see them moving down that fast in the beginning the player is soft dropping them down manually (like in the old Gameboy Tetris for example) if they instantly land it's a hard drop (a mechanic that was introduced in a lot of Tetris games since maybe the late 90s) which is also a input the player has to do. But in the later parts when it gets faster and faster it's because of the gravity which rises like in every Tetris Marathon mode.
At 1:10 the pieces are falling at that speed on their own. older Tetris games capped out at a relatively tame gravity (1G is considered a 'kill screen' in NES despite all TGM games going up to 20 times that gravity.) However seeing as there was no lock delay it felt brutal. As for hard dropping, that mechanic only exists in TGM in TGM3's World Rule. Instead TGM games use something called "Sonic Drop" which instantly drops a piece to the floor, however it does not lock in.
so many TGM folks here, i love it
Everyone has respect for a great tetris player
Jason, commenting on the insanity of GM Tetris as he plays a portion of a Guitar Hero song with one hand, gesturing wildly in the process.
I mean tbf his other hand wasn't needed at the time.
the ending depends on the mode.
easy mode: just 20G gravity (pieces fall instantly to the ground, but, of course, you can still move and rotate the pieces)
Sakura mode: has no special ending
Master Mode: after reaching level 999 you get the staff roll, where pieces can either become invisible after some time since they were placed or immediatly go invisible as soon as they lock, this has 20G gravity too and lock delay is very low
shirase mode: from levels 1000-1300 pieces are colorless, making it much harder to identify the next piece (also, lock delay is 8 frames in this stage), in the staff roll, pieces stay colorless, lock delay stays 8 frames, but now the pieces are twice as big!
(Shirase mode has 20G from the beginning)
edit: "Um Ackshually", the color the blocks will have during the 1000-1300 part of Shirase depends on the rule you picked (Classic Rule = White, World Rule= Green), from levels 1000 to 1099, lock delay is 12 frames, from 1100 to 1199 it's 10 and from 1200 to 1299 it's 8, during the staff roll, the lock delay is actually 15 frames
